  • Rethinking Addiction with Jeff Jones — A New Family Recovery Model 12.03.2026 30min
In this episode of The Addiction Podcast — Point of No Return, Jeff Jones explains how growing up in a family shaped by addiction led him to rethink how recovery truly works. He describes the unsafe dynamic between his mother and alcoholic grandfather — “it wasn’t safe for me to love him in my mother’s presence” — and how those early mixed messages inspired his lifelong curiosity about how families become part of the solution. After becoming a therapist, Jeff saw the same harmful patterns repeated inside treatment centers, prompting him to challenge traditional cause‑and‑effect thinking. As he explains, “there’s one problem, one cause… that was not helpful,” emphasizing instead a contributing‑factors model that allows families to see addiction more clearly and respond more effectively.Jeff also discusses his training with the Academy for Addiction and Mental Health Nutrition and how nutritional recovery can support stabilization and detox. He shares a powerful example of helping a young woman detox from heroin using amino acids — “I helped her detox heroin with an amino acid” — while stressing that nutrition is only one part of a larger healing arc.Today, Jeff runs a nine‑month family recovery program and a free six‑week masterclass designed to help families calm their nervous systems, set healthy boundaries, and create change that ripples outward to their loved one in addiction. His message is simple and hopeful: when families rethink old patterns, new solutions emerge.
