All Creatures Great and Small Season 2, Episodes 1–3: Where the Heart Belongs 18.08.2026 47minIn this week’s episode of Cozy Comfort Club, we’re returning to the Yorkshire Dales to discuss All Creatures Great and Small Season 2, Episodes 1 through 3, streaming on PBS Masterpiece.James returns from Scotland with a major career decision hanging over him, Helen faces the aftermath of leaving Hugh at the altar, and the Farnon brothers immediately fall back into their usual chaos. Meanwhile, Mrs. Hall continues holding Skeldale House together as nearly everyone around her hides something. From Tristan’s disastrous encounter with Miss Tompkin’s budgie to James and Helen’s emotional rooftop conversation, these episodes balance hilarious veterinary cases with romance, grief, family conflict, and questions about where we truly belong.Spoiler NoteThis episode contains spoilers for All Creatures Great and Small Season 2, Episodes 1–3.In This Episode* James’s return from Scotland and the job opportunity that could take him away from Darrowby* Why James must decide where he physically belongs and where his heart belongs* Helen’s embarrassment and grief after leaving Hugh at the altar* James and Helen’s slow-burn romance finally moving forward* The beautiful rooftop conversation that made me cry* Tristan and Siegfried’s complicated relationship* The truth about Tristan’s veterinary exam results* Mrs. Hall’s possible connection with Mr. Hammond* Siegfried’s relationships with Diana and Dorothy* Tristan’s funniest moments, including the budgie, the chickens, and Herbert the lamb* How the veterinary cases reflect the characters’ emotional journeys* Belonging, honesty, accountability, and found family* The cozy details that make Darrowby feel like home* My questions heading into the rest of Season 2* My final rating and cozy rating for Episodes 1–3Favorite CharacterMy favorite character across these episodes was Tristan Farnon. From secretly hiding a dead budgie in a drawer to naming chickens after former girlfriends, Tristan provided exactly the kind of comedic relief I love in a period drama. He also surprised me with moments of insight, whether he was encouraging James to pursue Helen or calling Siegfried out for being stuck in a rut.Favorite SceneMy favorite scene was James and Helen’s rooftop conversation.James apologizes for not understanding what the Dalby farm means to the family, and Helen opens up about her mother and the grief she continues to carry. When James and Helen finally kiss and the camera pulls back to show them sitting together on the roof, it is quiet, intimate, and completely earned.Yes, I cried.Theme of This ChapterThe central themes of these episodes are belonging, found family, and honesty.Nearly everyone is hiding from something. Helen is avoiding the embarrassment surrounding her broken engagement. James is hiding from his true feelings about Helen and possibly from how he really feels about returning to Scotland. Tristan hides from responsibility, while Siegfried conceals the truth about Tristan’s exam results and his own emotions. These episodes show that belonging is not only about finding the right place. It is also about finding people who love us enough to support us, challenge us, and hold us accountable.Cozy MomentsThese episodes are filled with everything that makes All Creatures Great and Small such a comforting watch:* The Scottish scenery, trains, buses, haggis, and tatties* Rolling green hills, farms, barns, sheep, and cobblestone streets* Skeldale House and evenings beside the fireplace* Steaming cups of tea, biscuits, cakes, and scones* Crosswords and village markets* James and Tristan’s cozy green vests* All of the knitted sweaters* Helen’s green jacket and colorful polka-dot dress* The music, dancing, and community atmosphere of the Daffodil Ball* Chickens, lambs, pigs, horses, cows, birds, and roosters crowingFinal RatingsOverall Rating: 4.75 out of 5 starsCozy Rating: 5 out of 5These episodes were a very strong opening to Season 2. James had his arm up another animal’s behind almost immediately, the Farnon brothers were back to their usual shenanigans, and Mrs. Hall was there absorbing all of the chaos around her.It felt like coming home.I enjoyed these episodes just as much as Season 1 (possibly even more) because I am already familiar with these characters and emotionally invested in their lives.I love that the veterinary cases feel just as important as the interpersonal relationships. The animal stories are never simply included as background. They reveal something about the farmers, the community, and often the veterinarians themselves.I also noticed that Maggie, the barmaid from the Drovers Arms, did not appear in these episodes, although she was mentioned. I hope we see her again because I enjoyed what she brought to Tristan’s story in Season 1.I would absolutely recommend this three-episode chapter to viewers who love character-driven period dramas, slow-burn romance, found family, beautiful countryside, lovable animals, and stories where the quieter emotional moments matter just as much as the larger plot.Books Mentioned in This EpisodeInterested in reading the books that inspired All Creatures Great and Small? You can find the books mentioned on Cozy Comfort Club through my Bookshop.org storefront:Shop the books mentioned in this episode: https://bookshop.org/a/127415/9781250057839Books Mentioned* All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot* Murder with Peacocks (Meg Langslow #1) by Donna AndrewsWhen you purchase through my Bookshop.org affiliate link, I may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. First Impressions: Is Paris Is Always a Good Idea Worth Watching? 11.08.2026 34minThis week on TV Tuesday, I’m sharing my first impressions of Paris Is Always a Good Idea, the new Hallmark+ series based on the novel by Jenn McKinlay. After years of throwing herself into work while struggling with the loss of her mother, Chelsea Martin finds herself returning to Europe and revisiting the places (and past loves) connected to one of the happiest periods of her life. After watching Season 1, Episodes 1 and 2, I’m talking about what’s working for me so far, the changes from the book, Chelsea’s grief and journey toward rediscovering herself, and whether I think this new Hallmark+ series is worth adding to your watchlist.⚠️ Spoiler NoteThis episode contains spoilers for Paris Is Always a Good Idea Season 1, Episodes 1 & 2.I also discuss the novel by Jenn McKinlay, but I avoid spoilers for later events in the book.In This EpisodeMy first impressions of Paris Is Always a Good Idea after watching Episodes 1 and 2.Meeting Chelsea Martin and how the loss of her mother has affected her relationships, career, and ability to move forward. Why I think Chelsea may be romanticizing one of the happiest periods of her past. The Paris Revisited itinerary and the messages Chelsea’s mother left behind for her family.Chelsea and Annabelle’s sister relationship and why Annabelle is already my favorite character.Jason Knightly’s very obvious attraction to Chelsea...even if he has a terrible way of showing it.Whether Knightly can make his way out of unlikeable-character territory.Chelsea’s return to Ireland and her reunion with her former love, Colin. The hilarious (and slightly heartbreaking) truth behind Colin remembering exactly how long it had been since Chelsea left Ireland. Why Colin may not actually be the “one who got away.”Chelsea realizing that some of the things she thought she loved were actually things she loved because Colin loved them. The themes of grief, romanticizing the past, identity, self-discovery, and learning how to live again after loss. Why I think Chelsea’s European adventure may be more of a Band-Aid than a solution to what she’s really struggling with. All the cozy European travel moments...from Parisian pastries and coffee to Irish pubs, cottages, sheep, music, and beautiful scenery.A fun behind-the-scenes detail about the Ireland scenes actually being filmed in northern Spain. My spoiler-free book-to-screen first impressions and some of the major changes Hallmark+ has already made to Jenn McKinlay’s novel. Why the television adaptation feels cozier to me than the book.My thoughts on the novel and why I rated it 3.25/5 stars. The questions I’m still thinking about before Chelsea heads back to Paris. And, most importantly: after two episodes, should you keep watching? My First-Impression RatingsEpisode 1: ⭐ 4/5Episode 2: ⭐ 4.25/5Cozy Rating: ☕ 5/5First-Impression Verdict: KEEP WATCHINGMentioned in This EpisodeParis Is Always a Good Idea — Season 1, Episodes 1 & 2Paris Is Always a Good Idea by Jenn McKinlayStarring:* Lacey Chabert as Chelsea Martin* Scott Michael Foster as Jason Knightley* Rebecca Hanssen as AnnabelleHallmark+“Don’t Get Me Wrong” by The PretendersAnna SchulzeParis, FranceIrelandSpainComing Up This WeekCozy Mystery Thursday: Ludwig Season 1, Episodes 3 & 4Next TV Tuesday: We’re heading back to the Yorkshire Dales for All Creatures Great and Small Season 2, Episodes 1–3!Follow along on Instagram @cozycomfortclub for episode updates, polls, cozy recommendations, and behind-the-scenes podcast content.Listen & Follow🎧 Listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.📖 Subscribe to Cozy Comfort Club on Substack for weekly watchlists, reading updates, and cozy recommendations delivered straight to your inbox.📱 Instagram: @cozycomfortclub📧 Email: cozycomfortclub@gmail.com — I’d love to hear your thoughts on the episode, answer your questions, or even include your comments in a future TV Tuesday discussion.Until next time, happy watching!Discussion About This EpisodeHave you read Paris Is Always a Good Idea by Jenn McKinlay? Read It & Watch It: Enola Holmes | Book & Movie Recap + Review (Spoilers) 29.06.2026 32minThis month on Read It & Watch It, we’re heading to Victorian England to compare Enola Holmes: The Case of the Missing Marquess by Nancy Springer with the 2020 Netflix adaptation starring Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill, Sam Claflin, and Helena Bonham Carter. When Enola Holmes wakes up on her birthday to discover her mother has disappeared, she sets out to solve the mystery herself. Along the way, she crosses paths with the missing Viscount Tewkesbury, deciphers secret messages, outsmarts dangerous villains, and proves she’s every bit as clever as the Holmes name suggests. In this episode, I compare the book and movie, discuss the biggest changes between the two, and share why one adaptation worked better for me than the other.Spoiler NoteThis episode contains full spoilers for both Enola Holmes: The Case of the Missing Marquess and the 2020 Netflix film Enola Holmes. In This Episode* Introduction to this month’s Read It & Watch It pick* Book overview and first impressions* Why I found the book surprisingly cozy* My thoughts on the movie’s creative storytelling style* Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes* Henry Cavill’s version of Sherlock Holmes* Comparing Sherlock and Mycroft in the book and movie* Eudoria Holmes and the mystery surrounding her disappearance* Victorian England as the backdrop for the story* Secret ciphers, flowers, and coded messages* Enola’s disguises and detective skills* Meeting Viscount Tewkesbury* The romance that appears in the movie but not the book* Miss Harrison’s finishing school* Edith and the women’s self-defense group* The suffrage movement and how the movie expands Eudoria’s story* The biggest differences between the book and film* Why the movie’s mystery felt easier for me to follow* Comparing the endings* Final ratings and which version I preferredBook vs. Movie Changes We Discuss* Enola’s age* Sherlock’s personality* Mycroft’s role* The order of Enola’s disguises* Tewkesbury’s age and romance* Edith and the tea room* The suffrage movement storyline* The motive behind the central mystery* Eudoria’s ending* The overall pacing of the mysteryCozy Check* Victorian England* Country estates and Ferndell Hall* Bustling London streets* Secret tea rooms* Bookshops and boarding houses* Hidden messages and flower ciphers* Clever disguises* Cozy historical atmosphere* Amateur detective energyTropes* Amateur Detective* Missing Person Mystery* Book-to-Screen Adaptation* Historical Mystery* Coming-of-Age* Secret Identity* Hidden Messages* Family Secrets* Adventure Mystery* Strong Female LeadRatings📚 Book: Enola Holmes: The Case of the Missing MarquessBook Rating: ☕☕☕✨ (3.5/5)Cozy Rating: ☕☕☕☕ (4/5)🎬 Movie: Enola Holmes (2020)Movie Rating: ☕☕☕☕✨ (4.25/5)Cozy Rating: ☕☕☕☕ (3.75/5)Final ThoughtsThis is one of those rare cases where I actually preferred the adaptation over the original book.
