Bringing Up Our “Midnight Zone” - Sermon - September 6, 2026 06.09.2026 45minDear Hillside: Wasn’t last Sunday’s worship gathering a thrill? I’m still thinking about the stories our fellow Hillsiders told about God “having their backs” through scary and even excruciating circumstances (Note to self: don’t forget to attach the hose). I’m also still thinking of the needs our fellow Hillsiders shared: the need for healing, the need for strength, and the need for God to envelope struggling loved ones in his powerful arms. What a privilege to hear what’s on the hearts of our brothers and sisters in this family. What will God do tomorrow when we gather again? Who knows as we don’t control him. And yet, every worship service is rich with Holy Spirit-possibility because the living Lord is genuinely present with us when we gather before him. So, let’s come to the hill tomorrow with great expectations for how God is going to guide and speak and move. Regarding the specifics, in addition to singing to God, imagining our future, and hearing an exciting Hillside update, we’ll be taking Communion. Looking forward to praising God with you.Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 10:00 AM both online and in person as Dan Seitz teaches from Luke 10:25-37; Matthew 5:14-16.This week’s sermon notes are available at: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZqwGpJZBX0RVcMzgvyGJNwbvlEsikNAgWrXIf you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our website: https://www.hillsidecovenant.org/ We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! To give in support of Hillside Covenant and its ministries follow this link: https://hillsidecovenant.churchcenter.com/givingThe sermon from Hillside Covenant Church, Sunday, September 6, 2026. -

Seeing Inside the “Clay” - Sermon - August 16, 2026 16.08.2026 35minDear Hillside: Ever had the experience of discovering a connection between two places, people, or things that you didn’t think were connected. It happened to me recently on a trip back from Barstow. Trapped in Highway 580 traffic, I ducked onto Vasco Road, wound through the rolling green hills, and eventually entered downtown Clayton by the “backdoor.” Up until that point what lay beyond Clayton was a shadowy mystery. It happened to me with music in the 80’s when I learned that solo pop artist Don Henley was the drummer of the rock band the Eagles. It was weird and wonderful to think that the serious-looking guy who sang “The Boys of Summer” and “All She Wants to do is Dance” was thumping the drums on Eagles hits “Heartache Tonight” and “Already Gone.” It happened again when I learned that Hillsider Ed Hultgren is the uncle of Hillsider Sharon Singh (who knew they were kin? Do they have keys to each other’s home? Naturally, I wondered). Well, realizing there was a connection between two seemingly unrelated things happened again this week in my study of James 5:7-11. I discovered that our James passage has a telling link to another passage from the Gospels, but that without an “X-Ray machine” it’s difficult to spot (fortunately, I have one). Anyway, I’m excited to share with you what God gave me. By the way, we’re now down to two weeks in our Just Do the Word series. So let’s seize the moment for allowing the inspired and irascible Pastor James to instruct us in the Christian life of “doing the word.” Can’t wait to see you at 10:00 AM on the hill!Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 10:00 AM both online and in person as Dan Seitz teaches from James 5:7-11.This week’s sermon notes are available at: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZvgFVJZhM7182AUAFLJYyekA092RfNDDlf7If you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our website: https://www.hillsidecovenant.org/ We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! To give in support of Hillside Covenant and its ministries follow this link: https://hillsidecovenant.churchcenter.com/givingThe sermon from Hillside Covenant Church, Sunday, August 16, 2026. -

Providing Like Peggotty - Sermon - August 9, 2026 09.08.2026 31minDear Hillside: This week in the third-to-last message of our James series, Just Do the Word, we’ll be experiencing another “cold plunge,” and in more ways than one. Nevertheless, we’re confident that Pastor James’ strong words in James 5:1-6 are our loving God’s inspired words, so we’ll listen securely and with the intention to “do” what we’ve “heard” in the power of the Spirit he poured into us. Have a great Saturday Hillside, and see you tomorrow for a rich service of musical praise, a report from “field agent” R.F., a message from God’s word, and plenty of hugs, handshakes and fist bumps to go around. The Fully Integrated Life - Sermon - August 2, 2026 02.08.2026 30minWhat if the greatest danger isn’t making bad plans—but allowing our good plans to distract us from the life God has placed in front of us? We spend so much time preparing for tomorrow that we can easily overlook the people, needs, and opportunities already within reach. This Sunday, we’ll explore James 4:13–17 and what it means to invite Jesus not only into our beliefs, but into our work, ambitions, decisions, and dreams. The “Swamp” and the “Rope” - Sermon - July 19, 2026 19.07.2026 34minDear Hillside: Not long ago I read about an unfortunate soul who tried to escape a DUI investigation by dropping off the roadway and scampering for freedom. The problem? The state was Louisiana and the terrain was swamp. A swamp filled with gators. What you imagined happened happened, though it could have been far worse as the man only suffered minor chomp wounds. I’m tempted to laugh but I dare not because if I’m honest I have to admit I’ve ended up in my own “swamps” from time to time. And to escape the “gators” I’ve needed the particular grace James prescribes in this week’s passage. I (Dan) am looking forward to sharing with you what God gave me in the “cold plunge” verses James 4:1-10. Enjoy your Saturday and see you tomorrow at 10:00 AM for our weekly time to celebrate God and cheer each other on in the great race of faith.Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 10:00 AM both online and in person as Dan Seitz teaches from James 4:1-10.This week’s sermon notes are available at: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZmmOr5ZKGSshWhpPA805seVkjFsrbUrCz3VIf you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our website: https://www.hillsidecovenant.org/ We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! To give in support of Hillside Covenant and its ministries follow this link: https://hillsidecovenant.churchcenter.com/givingThe sermon from Hillside Covenant Church, Sunday, July 19, 2026. -
