Marques believes that the core nature of nursing is to take care of others, and nursing staff should be aware of and understand the meaning of compassion.Sharing his aspiration and family experience, as well as his teaching and counselling at CUHK and Chung Chi, Marques explained the importance of being compassionate – both to others and to oneself. Being compassionate is not a form of weakness. Conversely, it is a cultivation on one’s strength.
