  • 'Comfort Is Holding You Back': Secrets to Growth and Confidence with Ant Williams 02.06.2026 58min
What if the key to a better life isn't avoiding discomfort - but actively seeking it? In this powerful conversation, Osher sits down with performance psychologist, leadership coach, and world-record holding freediver Ant Williams to explore why some of life's greatest breakthroughs happen when we step into fear rather than run from it. Drawing on decades of experience helping athletes, leaders, and high performers build their resilience, Ant shares remarkable stories from the extremes of human endurance, including deep ocean freediving, swimming beneath ice, encounters with sharks, and moments where staying calm was the difference between life and death. But this episode goes far beyond adventure - Ant also reveals practical strategies for managing anxiety, building resilience, handling difficult conversations, improving performance and developing the self-awareness needed to grow through life's challenges. He also opens up about leaving a fundamentalist church, overcoming fear-based thinking, and how deliberately embracing discomfort transformed his life. Whether you're navigating career pressure, parenting challenges, relationship struggles, or simply looking to become more mentally resilient, this conversation offers actionable tools to help you stay calm, focused, and confident when it matters most. • What Gangsters and Hackers Can Teach As About Thriving in the Modern Economy 31.05.2026 24min
In a world where the old 'social contract' has been tossed out the window, where AI is taking over human resources and the 'traditional' path feels more like a dead end - where do you look for the new rules of survival?  Do you look to the old school executive leaders or do you look to the fringes, the creatives, the disruptors? Perhaps there are still ideas and business models which come from well outside the norm that can offer unconventional ways we could move ahead and possibly even achieve unreasonable results? In this episode, we’re looking back at my chat with economic historian and author of The Misfit Economy Alexa Clay, who spent years inside informal, grey, and black markets, talking to gang leaders, hackers, and pirates, and discovered that they weren't 'just criminals' - they were the most agile entrepreneurs on the planet. And while the story we’re often told about great business leaders is almost always 'the lone genius with a venture capital war chest', Alexa noticed that the most radical innovation happens when there is zero safety net. So could this 'grey market' be the blueprint for an increasingly uncertain economy? • How Radio Star Robin Bailey Kept Going Through Unimaginable Grief - Twice 26.05.2026 1t 9min
It was an absolute pleasure to sit down with Brisbane radio veteran Robin Bailey for a deeply honest and emotional conversation about the extraordinary highs and devastating lows of her life behind the microphone. I first met Robin in the mid-90s at B105 - I was the overnight guy, she was a new breakfast producer. From there, she quickly cemented herself as a staple and a survivor of the brutal commercial radio industry. In Brisbane alone, she's worked across three commercial station, been sacked at least three times (and most recently re-hired after a month thanks to listener backlash). But away from the microphone, Robin has endured a number of tragedies that many of us would struggle to come back from - and she's done it time and time again - all under the spotlight of her radio audience. In this conversation, Robin shares the moments that shaped her career - and her life. She opens up about losing her former husband Tony to suicide, then another husband Sean to cancer, raising three sons through grief, navigating public scrutiny, and why authenticity became her greatest strength. We also unpack memories of our radio careers, and how Robin would like to see the industry evolve, particularly for female presenters, producers and journalists. This is a raw, powerful and ultimately hopeful conversation about survival, healing and choosing love in the face of pain. And a note, this episode deals with suicide, mental health and grief. • The True Story About The Night I First Kissed My Wife 25.05.2026 23min
In this episode, you'll hear the true story of how I met — and nearly didn’t kiss — the woman who would become my wife. This was originally recorded live at Story Club at Sydney’s Factory Theatre, as part of a Valentine’s-themed show. From terrifying encounters with a woman whose boyfriend worked for Kanye West, to a painfully unromantic first kiss involving vegan Tim Tams, it's a true story of love, vulnerability, and learning how to build a healthy relationship after years of chaos and self-destruction, plus some insights into storytelling, communication, and why true stories have the power to connect us in ways nothing else can. • How to Communicate Better in Every Conversation with Jefferson Fisher 19.05.2026 57min
In this episode, trial lawyer and communication expert Jefferson Fisher explores the real art of communication — from difficult conversations and emotional regulation to ego, relationships and the hidden psychology behind how we speak to one another. Drawing on his experience as a courtroom advocate and one of the internet’s most trusted voices on communication, Jefferson shares practical insights into staying calm under pressure, handling conflict without escalation, and learning how to truly listen. Together, Jefferson and I unpack why so many of us struggle with communication, how our upbringing shapes the way we argue and connect, and what happens when we replace human connection with screens and text messages. We also cover the prevalence of public speaking anxiety, emotional intelligence, humility and the importance of curiosity over ego. Along the way, Jefferson offers simple but powerful tools for navigating heated moments, understanding what people really mean beneath their words, and becoming more intentional in the way we show up for others. This insightful conversation is packed with useful advice you can use right now if you want stronger relationships, better conversations and a deeper understanding of what it means to truly connect as human beings. • Movember: The Simple Idea That Changed The Face Of Men's Health 17.05.2026 19min
In this episode of Better Than Yesterday, we revisit a powerful conversation with Adam Garone, co-founder of Movember, to explore how one of the world’s most successful grassroots movements began not with a strategy or manifesto, but with a simple dare among friends. What started in a Melbourne backyard as a playful challenge to bring back the moustache quickly evolved into a global campaign for men’s health. Over time, Movember has grown into a worldwide movement spanning more than 20 countries, engaging millions of participants and raising over a billion dollars for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health initiatives. This episode unpacks the surprising mechanics behind Movember’s success: why playfulness can be more powerful than seriousness in capturing attention, how trust and community participation fuel organic growth, and why the organisation’s biggest innovation may be treating participants not as audiences, but as co-creators of the movement. We also hear how Movember has helped reshape medical research itself—connecting previously isolated researchers across the globe and fostering collaboration that accelerates breakthroughs in men’s health. It's a conversation about rethinking how change happens, and challenging the idea that movements need perfection or authority to begin. Instead, curiosity, connection, and a bit of irreverence can actually drive real-world impact. • The Reality of Living In The Outback: Brendan Cullen's Journey from Pain to Purpose 05.05.2026 1t 17min
Australia’s outback is world-renowned for it’s beauty, it’s uniqueness and it’s people. But what often isn’t spoken about is the sheer isolation living in these remote communities. My guest on this episode is a man who has lived at the extremes — physically, mentally, and emotionally. Brendan Cullen has lived his life on the land. He’s navigated childhood trauma, isolation, depression and alcohol dependency - and come out the other side a better person and a better father. In this conversation, Brendan opens up about the moment things caught up with him - when the mental load eventually became too heavy to carry alone and he could no longer wear the mask. He talks about the reality of living with depression, the brutal isolation of the rural Australia, and what it took to finally ask for help. He also talks about finally finding purpose, and how he managed to train to swim the English Channel in the middle of the outback. It’s a candid yet important look at mental health, particularly in rural communities where silence and self-reliance are often the status quo. Brendan stands as a beacon of resilience forged the hard way, and proof asking for help can make a real difference. • Anger Is Not Failure: Rethinking Motherhood with Lauren Novak 28.04.2026 1t 2min
One of the hardest parts of parenting is one not many people talk about. In this episode, we dive into the reality of “mum rage” — the intense, often shame-filled anger that can surface in the daily grind of parenting. Lauren Novak is a journalist, author and mum herself. Her new book 'Melt Down' explores the raw and often unspoken angry emotions that many mothers go through, yet few feel safe admitting.  This honest and deeply personal conversation explores the gap between what we’re told parenting should feel like, and the pressure-filled reality it often is. We unpack the invisible mental load, the impact of sleep deprivation, chronic stress, and the relentless demands that can push even the most loving parents to breaking point. You’ll also hear about the anger–guilt cycle, why it happens, and how it can quietly erode wellbeing if left unspoken. If you’ve ever felt overstretched, overstimulated, or just not good enough as a parent, this conversation will feel both validating and illuminating. Because the truth is: you’re not the only one — and talking about it might be the first step to changing it. • How The Netherlands Turned an Oil Crisis Into a National Opportunity 26.04.2026 18min
What if a crisis isn’t just something to endure, but a once-in-a-generation opportunity to rethink everything? In this episode, I'm unpacking the idea of “crisitunity” (yes, inspired by Homer Simpson!) and exploring how a moment of disruption can become a catalyst for lasting change. I'm taking you all the way back to 1973, when another global oil crisis brought The Netherlands to a standstill. Instead of waiting and hoping for normalcy to return, they made a bold decision: redesign their cities, prioritise people over cars (even banning them one day a week), and build what would become the world’s best cycling infrastructure. Fast forward to 2026, and Australia is facing its own version of that moment—rising fuel prices, fragile supply chains, and a heavy dependence on imported energy. So the question is: will we just ride it out… or capitalise on this opportunity? This episode explores what’s at stake, what’s possible, and why the choices we make right now could shape the future of how we move, live, and build a more resilient country. So, do you really love Animals? Or do you really love to hate people? It's a question sparked from a recent experience I had on social media after posting a clip from my interview with comedian Daniel Sloss. And let's just say some of the comments really surprised me. • Natalie Bassingthwaighte Lifts the Curtain on Her Career & Personal Struggles 14.04.2026 1t 7min
Natalie Bassingthwaighte is an icon of the Australian entertainment industry. Best known for fronting dance act Rogue Traders (plus her stellar solo career) and playing troublemaker Izzy Hoyland on Neighbours, Natalie also has an extensive musical theatre background. But more recently, it's her personal life that has taken centre stage. In this deeply honest and wide-ranging conversation, Natalie joins me to unpack the realities behind living life in the spotlight — from rejection and self-doubt to relationships and identity. Natalie shares what it really takes to survive and stay grounded in an industry where people are easily overlooked and dismissed, and how her relationship with herself has evolved through career highs, personal loss, and major life transitions. From being told she’d never make it at 16, to navigating fame, online criticism, and burnout, this episode is a powerful look at resilience in action. Nat and I dive into the mental health tools that actually help — including therapy, meditation, and learning how to interrupt negative thought spirals — and why success alone doesn’t fix how you feel inside. We also explore the complexity of relationships including co-parenting and separation, and the courage it takes to live truthfully, even when it’s messy, misunderstood and open to criticism. There's no denying that we’re living in a time where misinformation spreads faster than ever, and shared reality is breaking down. But what if the biggest threat to society isn’t the misinformation, but our relationship with truth itself? In this powerful conversation, Osher Günsberg sits down with behavioural expert and author Dom Thurbon to unpack why humans lie, how beliefs are formed, and why facts alone rarely change our minds. From climate anxiety and AI-generated misinformation to vaccine debates and identity-driven beliefs, this episode dives deep into the psychology of truth in a world where reality feels increasingly unstable. What do boy bands, modern dating and unhealthy masculinity have in common? According to today's guest - comedian, writer and performer Bridie Connell - more than you think. In this hilarious conversation, Bridie joins me to talk about her wildly original musical F*ccbois: Live In Concert — a sharp, affectionate and very funny satire about a fictional boy band, performed entirely by a female and non-binary cast in drag. Bridie shares how years of observing modern dating culture, “love bombing”, gaslighting and the strange choreography of bad male behaviour inspired the show. And how what began as a desire to write about “f*ck boys” eventually became a full-scale musical and a love letter to the boy bands of the ’90s and 2000s, like Backstreet Boys, *NSync and Westlife. What does it actually mean to live a good life in a world that feels increasingly complex, divided, and emotionally charged?  In this conversation, I speak with world-renowned moral philosopher and professor of bioethics Peter Singer to unpack some of the hardest questions of our time—from the ethics of global conflict and public discourse, to why we ignore suffering we could prevent, and what we really owe one another.  We explore the tension between outrage and empathy, the psychology behind why we cling to certain beliefs even when faced with evidence, and how identity can quietly shape (and limit) our thinking. Peter also shares the personal story of how he radically changed his own views, and why being willing to revise your beliefs isn’t just intellectual humility… it’s a moral responsibility.  And Peter explains how to make donations to charity have the greatest impact in 2026.   LINKS  More info on The Life You Can Save’s work  Grab Peter’s book ‘The Life You Can Save’ for free  Listen to Peter’s podcast ‘Lives Well Lived’  Sign up to the Better Than Yesterday newsletter  Watch episodes of Better Than Yesterday on YouTube  Watch full stories recorded live at Story Club on YouTube  Get tickets for our next Story Club show  Get Osher's latest book "So What?
