  What if everything you need for a full, godly life has already been provided? Not promised for someday, but given, secured, and waiting to be received?That is the claim Peter opens with in his second letter. Writing to believers scattered across a hostile empire, facing real persecution under Emperor Nero, he does not offer sympathy or survival tips. He points them to something more durable: the exceedingly great and precious promises of God, given through his divine power, sufficient for everything that pertains to life and godliness.The sermon works through 2 Peter chapter one from the ground up. It begins with the phrase "like precious faith," from verse one, and the Greek word behind it: isotimos, meaning of equal value or honour. Every believer carries the same quality of faith. The question is never whether you have it. The question is whether you know how to work it. When they finally removed the rope, the elephant still only walked the same small circle. The chain was gone. It had just moved from its leg to its mind.That's the picture that opens this message: most limits people carry are not around them, they are within them. Nothing changes around you until something changes within you, and the mind you carry determines the life you live. From there the message moves through Scripture to make one central case: knowledge, real knowledge of what has already been made available, is the foundation of a full and free life. Using the flood narrative in Genesis as a picture of the Word doing deeper and deeper work in a life, and the story of the prodigal son's older brother who lived like a servant despite already owning everything his father had, the point lands again and again.
