  • Fatima (Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary) 07.10.2026 12min
October 7 celebrates every year The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary and the power of the Rosary prayer. In each of her six appearances to the three shepherd children (Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta) between May and October 1917, Mary asked them to pray the Rosary every day. In her July 1917 apparition, Mary taught the children a short prayer to be recited after the Glory Be at the end of each decade of the Rosary: “O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy.” Mary stated that the daily Rosary was essential for bringing an end to World War I and achieving global peace, emphasizing that only through this prayer and conversion could peace be secured. During her final apparition on October 13, 1917—coinciding with the Miracle of the Sun—she identified herself explicitly as "Our Lady of the Rosary." The feast marks a major naval battle on October 7, 1571. A Christian fleet called the Holy League fought the powerful Ottoman Navy. Pope St. Pius V asked all Christians across Europe to pray the Rosary for a safe victory. The smaller Christian fleet won the battle and credited their success to Mary's intercession. Pope Pius V first named the day the Feast of Our Lady of Victory. Later, Pope Gregory XIII changed the name to the Feast of the Holy Rosary. Pope Pius X set the final fixed date of October 7 in 1913. The Catholic Church dedicates the entire month of October to the Holy Rosary. Believers use this month to meditate on the life of Jesus through the prayers of the Rosary. Jesus tells the story of a father asks his two sons to work in his vineyard in the Gospel of Matthew (21:28-32). The first son initially refuses but later changes his mind and works. The second son agrees to work but then doesn't. The father's will is done by the first son, who repents and obeys, while the second son, who makes a false commitment, doesn't fulfill it. • Stigmata of Francis 04.10.2026 10min
Saint Francis of Assisi Feast Day (October 4) honors the moment Francis received the stigmata—bodily marks resembling the crucifixion wounds of Jesus Christ. St. Francis received the wounds in September 1224 while praying and fasting on Mount La Verna in Tuscany, Italy. Francis is the first historically recorded person to bear the stigmata. The event signifies a deep spiritual union with Christ's passion and love. Saint Francis (1181-1226) was an Italian mystic, poet and mendicant friar who founded the religious order of the Franciscans in the early 13th century. • EXTRA 128. Wampanoag Algonquians 03.10.2026 19min
STORY of AMERICA 🇺🇸 Native Americans of the Northeastern Woodlands based in southeastern Massachusetts are called The Wampanoag, meaning People of the First Light. How did these indigenous tribes view themselves and the world around them in the period immediately preceding contact with Europeans? The Wampanoag were part of a larger group of North American Indians known as the Algonquian. They, and many of the other native peoples in New England, spoke a language belonging to the Algonquian language family and is most closely related to those spoken by the Mohican. Algonquian is thus the name of the cultural linguistic group that includes many “tribes”, of which the Algonquins are one. • 372. St. Jerome Tomb 30.09.2026 10min
September 30 is the annual Feast Day of Saint Jerome (347–420), who was originally interred in Bethlehem, where he died. His original rock-cut tomb is inside St. Jerome’s Cave, a subterranean grotto network located beneath the Church of St. Catherine, right next to the study room where he spent 30 years translating the Latin Vulgate Bible. This church sits immediately adjacent to the famous Church of the Nativity. During the 13th century Crusades, his remains were transferred from Bethlehem to Rome to safeguard them from political conflict and desecration. Saint Jerome is buried at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, following his death in Bethlehem on September 30, 420 AD. Jerome was a Christian priest and Doctor of the Church best known for translating most of the Bible into Latin, a seminal work known as the Vulgate. He is also the patron saint of translators, librarians, archivists, and biblical scholars. The Basilica of Saint Mary Major, Santa Maria Maggiore, is one of the four most illustrious churches of Rome, along with St. John Lateran, St. Peter, and St. Paul Outside the Walls. It is Christendom’s first Marian shrine for pilgrims.  Coincidentally, September 30 is also recognized internationally as International Translation Day. September 29 is the Feast of the Archangels, a Christian celebration honored in Western traditions (also known as Michaelmas) and November 8 in Eastern traditions. Archangels are high-ranking angels in Abrahamic religions who serve as chief messengers and leaders of heavenly hosts. The Main Archangels are Michael: The protector and leader of the heavenly armies who fights against evil; Gabriel: The primary messenger of God who announces major divine plans; Raphael: The healer and guide associated with restoration and protection; and Uriel: Often included as a fourth, known as the angel of light and wisdom. Western Christianity (Catholicism): Explicitly names and venerates Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael from canonical scripture. Eastern Tradition (Orthodox): Recognizes a total of seven principal archangels, including Uriel, Jegudiel, Selaphiel, and Barachiel. In the Gospel of Luke, the celebrated celestial being who tells the Virgin Mary of her Destiny is the Archangel Gabriel. • 370. Canadian Martyrs Memorial 26.09.2026 10min
September 26 is the annual feast day of the Canadian Martyrs. In the United States, this feast day is celebrated on October 19 where the group is officially referred to as St. John de Brébeuf, Isaac Jogues, and Companions, but they are commonly known as the North American Martyrs. The date of October 19 was selected because it closely follows the martyrdom date of St. Isaac Jogues, who was killed on October 18, 1646, in present-day Auriesville, New York. Jesuit missionaries from Sainte-Marie among the Hurons were ritually tortured and killed on various dates between 1642-49 in Canada, in what is now southern Ontario, and in upstate New York, during the warfare between the Iroquioan tribes the Mohawk and the Huron. They have subsequently been canonized and venerated as the Canadian or North American martyrs by the Catholic Church (René Goupil, Isaac Jogues, Jean de Lalande, Antoine Daniel, Jean de Brébeuf, Gabriel Lalemant, Charles Garnier, Noel Chabanel). • Feast of JOHN the Evangelist 26.09.2026 11min
September 26 marks the annual Eastern Orthodox and Byzantine-rite commemoration of the Repose of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian. The Feast of Saint John, Apostle and Evangelist is also celebrated every year on December 27 by Catholic and Protestant Lutheran & Anglican Churches. The fourth of the New Testament's four canonical Gospels, John contains a highly schematic account of the ministry of Jesus, with seven signs and discourses culminating in a proclamation of the risen Jesus and concluding verses that set out its purpose.
