Resettl - Career and Life in the Netherlands
A podcast for international professionals who have moved to the Netherlands or are planning to, focused on building both a career and a life there. Each episode takes on one concrete question, such as why finding a job in the Netherlands can be harder than expected, or how to reinvent yourself professionally when nobody knows you yet. It is hosted by Mirjam de Bakker and Corine van Dijk-den Ouden, the founders of Resettl, a Dutch career coaching practice for internationals and returning expats. One host comes from an HR background and the other from marketing, and both have lived abroad before coming back. The tone is honest, practical and never too serious.

When nobody knows who you are: reinventing your career in the Netherlands (with Carine Visagie) 02.09.2026 39minNobody in Eindhoven knew who she was. Not her degree, not her company, not her twenty years as an award-winning journalist. Here is how she started again. This week Mirjam talks to Carine Visagie, journalist, digital content specialist and founder of Double Hyphen Creative, who moved from Cape Town to Eindhoven two years ago for her husband's work and rebuilt her professional and personal life from the ground up. Loved our conversation about being unseen in a new country, making friends when everyone else is already settled, forging your own path as a ZZP'er, what AI is doing to creative work, and the podcast she started: " Between Strangers" about the people who now call Eindhoven home from somewhere else. Does speaking Dutch really matter for your career? (with Jacky van der Starre - Speak Professional Dutch) 21.08.2026 39minYou understand Dutch, but the moment you have to speak, you freeze. This one is for you.Mirjam and Corine sit down with Jacky van Der Starre, founder of Speak Professional Dutch and Taalstar and creator of the Spreekwafel app & Spreekwafel Circle eco-system , for a warm, practical conversation about the gap between knowing Dutch and daring to use it.Her philosophy is refreshingly simple: speak first, perfect later. Confidence does not come before speaking, it comes from it. We get into what even a few sentences of Dutch actually open up in your career, why Dutch colleagues switch to English on you and how to gently take the floor back, and Jacky sets a live challenge you can try yourself (see further down)Find Jacky and her work at Speak Professional Dutch:Download the 'Spreekwafel' appMore info on the Spreekwafel Circle communityThe Dutch sentence for you to practice:"Ik begrijp je punt, maar ik denk dat we het ook van een andere kant kunnen bekijken." Two careers abroad, one company: how Resettl began 21.08.2026 15minTwo coaches, one shared plot. After years of building careers abroad, from Karachi and Singapore to Geneva and the US, we both moved back to the Netherlands and found that home no longer fit the people we had become. In this first co-hosted episode we tell how a networking walk we were not supposed to keep talking on turned into Resettl, why a "fragmented" international CV is a treasure rather than a gap, and what our two lenses, HR and recruitment on one side, marketing and positive psychology on the other, let us spot that a single coach would miss.
