Andre breaks down the making of the band's most ambitious record to date, what it means to operate for thirteen years in the underground while deliberately carving out a sound that shares influences with bands like Napalm Death, Godflesh, and Siege without sounding like any of them, and the story behind guest and backup vocals from Chris Reifert of Autopsy on the track "Hard to Swallow." "Hell Is Evil" was mixed and mastered by Greg Wilkinson at Earhammer Studio, with artwork by Max Rain.   Chris Elliott caught up with Matt Scott, bassist and vocalist of Washington, D.C., death metal band Goetia, to discuss the band's debut full-length "Mortuary Cult," released in June, through Carbonized Records. Matt breaks down how the album came together, its conceptual foundation drawn directly from experiences in an old cemetery in the D.C. suburbs, and what it meant to channel that environment into ten tracks of fast-paced death metal loaded with guitar solos and blast beats. Goetia formed in the fall of 2022 when Matt Scott, guitarist Demir Soyer, and drummer Nadia Tydings-Lynch discovered an immediate chemistry after a single show together. Davey breaks down the making of the band's heaviest and most ambitious record to date, how the volcanic badlands, forested valleys, and Painted Hills of Oregon shaped the album's atmosphere, and what it took to get here after the band's van and all of their gear were stolen at the end of a West Coast tour in 2023 , forcing them to rebuild from scratch before returning to the road only months later.Dry Wedding formed in 2018 after vocalist and guitarist Davey Ferchow posted Craigslist ads searching for musicians inspired by The Birthday Party, Swans, and 16 Horsepower. "The Back of Beyond" follows their pandemic-era debut, The Long Erode, recorded with legendary producer Billy Anderson (Neurosis, SLEEP, Witch Mountain), and their self-financed second album, "Sway."
