204 Cultural Differences and Architecture with Kevin Kenon 28.09.2026 28λCultural Differences and Architecture with Kevin Kenon Kevin works at the intersection of architecture, culture, development, hospitality, education, and long-term value. Over more than three decades, he has learned that successful architecture is about far more than designing attractive buildings. It is about understanding the people who will use them, the places where they stand, and the cultural expectations that shape how they are experienced. This is why Cultural Differences and Architecture have been a recurring theme throughout Kevin’s work. Buildings are never experienced in a cultural vacuum. Ideas about privacy, openness, hierarchy, community, hospitality, public space, and even beauty vary considerably from one society to another. Understanding those differences can make the difference between a building that simply functions and one that genuinely belongs. Kevin’s experience spans cultural projects, global retail flagships, towers, mixed-use developments, hospitality concepts, and institutional projects. He has worked with clients and development teams to take ambitious ideas from an early concept through the practical realities of design, financing, construction, and operation. Along the way, Cultural Differences and Architecture have often provided an important lens for understanding both the opportunities and challenges of working internationally. He has also served as a design principal on major projects, contributed to award-winning architecture, and participated in the World Trade Center design competition as a founding principal of United Architects. Some of the work he has helped create is represented in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Today, Kevin brings that experience to projects where architecture crosses cultural and organizational boundaries. Cultural Differences and Architecture are not simply an academic subject for him; they are part of the practical reality of designing for an international world. The more closely Kevin has worked across countries and cultures, the clearer it has become that Cultural Differences and Architecture influence everything from the first design idea to the finished experience. Recognizing those differences creates better buildings, stronger relationships, and more enduring value. Ultimately, Cultural Differences and Architecture are about people: how they live, work, gather, and experience the places we create. His tip to become more culturally competent are: If you have the means to travel, do so; it's the best way to understand different cultures.
