  • How to decide when to cut a bike ride short 27.05.2026 28m
Sometimes you just need a snack, and sometimes you need to stop the ride and get off. How do you know which is the right decision for you? Marley recently rode her longest ride EVER (!): 230 miles of the Oregon Outback route (https://bikepacking.com/routes/oregon-outback/ Marley modified this to be shorter mileage per day). BUT... she had intended to ride the entire 364-mile route. Today she walks us through what she took into account to know it was time to stop. You can join Marley for another epic ride this year at UNBOUND. She'll be riding the 25 mile course with Meg Fisher, as well as leading the All Bodies on Bikes shakeout ride. More details here: https://www.unboundgravel.com/ Have you had to make this decision? • REBROADCAST: Black Girl Joy Bike Ride founder Iresha Picot 12.05.2026 38m
In this conversation from September 2024, you'll see Marley and Ellen's very first episode together, with guest Iresha Picot, founder of Black Girl Joy Bike Ride in Philadelphia. It's awesome to see how full of light and joy Iresha is. Iresha is currently a featured athlete for Bicycling Magazine. While the content of the full campaign is telling stories of cycling for weight loss, Iresha barely focuses on that—and even says outright it’s not why she started cycling. So we wanted to make sure her whole story is amplified. Since 2023 with Black Girl Joy Bike Ride, Iresha has hosted bi-weekly rides, as well as workshops like Fix a Flat and Bike Maintenance 101. She is on a mission to close the gap around bike equity, and in the last 11 months has bought bikes for 23 Black women through the help of grants and fundraising.Iresha, you’re amazing, you’re doing the dang thing, and we love you over here at All Bodies on Bikes. Don’t forget for our Midwesterners (or road-trip-takers!), All Bodies on Bikes is touring with our new movie with Shimano, We Are Cyclists, beginning in June. Tickets are on sale now! We’ll have stops in Kansas City, Des Moines, Minneapolis, & Chicago and want to see you all there. Visit https://www.allbodiesonbikes.com/events for details and to buy tickets.

  • Let's build a Bike Bus World with Coach Balto 28.04.2026 32m
Even the littlest among us deserve to be on bikes!Today we're talking with Sam Balto, better known as @CoachBalto or @BikeBusWorld on social media. By posting videos of a joyous river of school kids riding bikes through the Portland neighborhoods, he has garnered national attention—as well as hosted some of the biggest entertainers for a morning ride. The bike bus movement is more than viral videos. Research lately has pointed out kids and their families are struggling to stay active, allow autonomy, and rebuild community that has eroded over the past decades. Bike buses (and other active options like walking school buses) sit at the center of all of these: Kids start school focused after an active morning; they can participate solo; and adults can begin to re-weave a web they can rely on.A League of American Cyclists webinar recently broke down how bikes are part of the solution, too: https://bikeleague.org/calendar/feeling-free-children-adolescents-teens-biking-and-independent-mobility/Sam founded Bike Bus World to help you start a bike bus at your school! • What you can do to save #AmericasBikeLane 21.04.2026 8m
April 21, 2026 is a day of national action for bike infrastructure. The League of American Cyclists in the Washington Area Bike Association are organizing in response to threats that the federal government is going to remove a bike lane from 15th Street in Washington, DC. (Marley actually talked a little bit about this when she was at Bike Summit; she led a protest ride along the 15th Street bike lane.)This bike lane is used by thousands of cyclists, and it's reduced all roadway crashes along the lane by 46%. However, the Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy has said that the federal government shouldn't be funding bike lanes. And, members of Congress who are writing the next transportation bill have said that the next five years of federal funding won't include biking and walking projects. So even though that is happening in Washington DC, it likely will affect you wherever it is that you are listening across the country. And this is where it all intersects with All Bodies on Bikes. Because we built our brand on being inclusive to all riders, and getting someone to start cycling means they need to feel comfortable doing it. Comfort comes from safety and feeling like you are not going to get run over by a giant truck while you're on your bike.So this is a moment when we can all take some collective action. The League and WABA are asking for three ways for you to participate:Ride your bike! (I think that you can all do that. :) )Post on social media using the hashtag #AmericasBikeLane and #BikeLanesSaveLives and tag @bikeleague, @wabadc and us, @AllBodiesOnBikes.Write to your members of Congress. Bike League has a form up that makes it very simple for you to customize a message asking them to defend the 15th street bike lane, and telling a story about infrastructure in your area, too. Give them a story that they can hang onto when this comes up in Congress again: https://bikeleague.org/take-action/action-center/Mentioned in this episode:This episode is supported by BikeTiresDirect.com. • Courage, Cows, and CPR: Saving lives and ourselves at Mid South 31.03.2026 17m
"I saved him, and I changed my life. What a weekend." —Donna Smith, Mid South DFL 2026 (50mi)Donna Smith didn't intend to be more than a Mid South 50-mile finisher when she set out to train for it as part of the All Bodies on Bikes 2026 team. Luckily for one rider, her training—and her strong body—helped save a life by administering CPR at mile 6. And she met Millie the friendly cow at the Salsa Oasis Chaise Lounge. • Kristen's incredible journey to DFL 2026 24.03.2026 44m
By now you know our tagline — all bodies are good bodies, all bike are good bikes, all rides are celebrated. Kristen Owenreay's story from her 2026 Mid South 100-mile ride is all of these things and more.Celebrating DFL at Mid South is about more than a party; it's about gifting the finish line experience to every rider. Kristen faced mechanical issues, health issues, logistics issues, and more, but still had the time and space to finish the ride. Keeping a course open for as long as possible opens up the field of cycling to encourage more and more riders to try it out at their own pace, and celebrate their wins, not just the podium.Kristen also has a personal connection to seeing more fat bodies on bikes, which you'll hear in the beginning. It's a testament to body acceptance at any size, and living the life you have in front of you instead of taking drastic measures to fit a mold based in bias. • Building strength to power your pedaling with Miranda Lyle 03.03.2026 35m
Today Ellen and Marley welcome strength and performance coach and mountain biker Miranda Lyle, founder of Play Strong Fitness, where she specializes in mountain biking conditioning programs. We discuss why muscle mass, strength, and durability support longevity and better riding. We also talk about gym motivation, return-to-sport conditioning after injuries, butts... er, glute strength, and why you should treat your body the same as your bike: with regular maintenance and occasional tune-ups when something goes wrong. On March 16, Miranda is launching a free, online Gear Up Challenge with Shredly. It's five days of super simple challenges, each 10 to 15 minutes long, anchored in the five pillars of her mountain biking program. Two live workshops will also dive a little bit deeper into what a strategic recovery session looks like, so that you can apply what you learn to longer bike rides.Learn more & sign up here: https://mirandasofferings.myflodesk.com/offtrailshredly (Psst - You'll get a Shredly discount for signing up!)03:40 Finding Motivation to Train05:47 Glutes Are Your Powerhouse08:38 Owwies, Aches, and Training11:10 Why Lifting + Biking = Great14:39 Advice for Imposter Syndrome at the Gym20:02 Returning to Cycling after an Injury23:45 Aging And Muscle Loss26:22 Miranda's "SEE" Method29:34 About the Off Trail Programs31:21 Join the Play Strong Fitness x Shredly Gear Up Challenge, March 16-21, 2026: https://mirandasofferings.myflodesk.com/offtrailshredlyFind Miranda online:https://www.playstrongfitness.com/off-trail-mountain-biking-conditioning-programshttps://www.instagram.com/playstrongfitness/https://www.youtube.com/@playstrongfitnessFollow All Bodies on Bikes:Follow us on Instagram: @allbodiesonbikesSubscribe on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@allbodiesonbikes/podcastsAll Bodies on Bikes Website: https://www.allbodiesonbikes.com/Mentioned in this episode:This episode is supported by BikeTiresDirect.com. • Riding as Resistance: The Alex Pretti Memorial Ride 24.02.2026 12m
This is a short conversation Ellen & Marley had with Jarrod Alder before our DFL discussion last episode. Jarrod was a key organizer of Minneapolis’s Alex Pretti Memorial Ride on January 31st, 2026, held just a few days after Pretti’s murder at the hands of ICE Agents. The ride in Minneapolis saw over 5,000 participants, and there were more than 300 rides around the world. This is a story of riding as resistance; of how the cycling community came together to honor one of our own, and to take a stand. We hope you take away a feeling of hope, that you are not alone in feeling feelings about what is happening, and that you leave with one example of how everyone can find a way to oppose what’s happening. As of airing this episode in February, at least six people have been killed by ICE in 2026, and ICE is still active across Minnesota. News outlets report as many as 500 agents are still on the ground, which, while being reported as a draw-down, is still a huge and disruptive presence. For ways to support our neighbors in the north, we’ve linked to a reddit thread with links to dozens of organizations. Nation-wide, you can call your representatives and voice your opposition. Minnesota still needs us:https://www.reddit.com/r/minnesota/comments/1qcfpmw/how_you_can_help_master_list/
  • The Magic of The Mid South DFL Party 17.02.2026 30m
This is the third and final episode in our 3-part series on The Mid South Gravel bike ride. You cannot talk about the Mid South without talking about their now-infamous DFL (Dead-F*cking-Last) party. So we invited two of our favorites on to talk about it.Jarrod Alder tells his story of his muddy Mid South ride that sparked the first party back in 2017, and Beth McBride shares her experience as the most recent DFL rider. She earned her designation back in 2024, but because the event was canceled last year, she has yet to pass the torch. This year, All Bodies on Bikes has teamed up with the Mid South and Ride with GPS to host the DFL Party! We are so excited for some of the ideas we have up our sleeve. If you're going to be at Mid South, come find us and celebrate the last person to cross the finish line with the biggest party and the most joy you have ever seen.
  • Training for a better ride (not a smaller body) with Dave Schell 10.02.2026 32m
In this episode, Marley Blonsky—who is somewhat notorious for NOT training before a long ride—interviews Coach Dave Schell, cycling coach for the All Bodies on Bikes Mid South Gravel team. Dave helps all athletes fit training into their lives, making it enjoyable, effective, and doable. They talk about the importance of consistency, how to manage stress about working in a ride, and tailoring workouts to your individual needs, from physical differences to whatever life is currently throwing at you. They also discuss nutrition and how to fuel your body for a long distance event.Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or just starting out, this episode offers valuable insights and practical tips for making the most of your training so that you can enjoy the ride!00:47 Meet Coach Dave Schell01:52 The Role of a Cycling Coach03:10 Training Tips and Strategies07:38 Incorporating Training into Daily Life11:15 Success Stories and Realistic Goals20:07 Common Training Pitfalls22:41 Nutrition and Fueling for RidesWebsite: https://www.kaizenendurance.coach/IG: https://www.instagram.com/kaizenendurance/Podcast: https://www.kaizenendurance.coach/podcastFundraising: https://www.paypal.com/donate?campaign_id=M5QPG8XCVKZ86Mentioned in this episode:This episode is supported by BikeTiresDirect.com. • The Mid South Gravel ABOB team experience with Matt Fisher 03.02.2026 26m
Each year All Bodies on Bikes takes a team of non-traditional athletes to Mid South Gravel for the ride of their lives, focused on joyful movement and fun. They train together virtually through the winter from their homes across the country, then finally come together for a weekend full of excitement, endless miles of red dirt, and some of the best parties you’ve experienced, INCLUDING the “DFL” dead-effing-last party. This episode is a conversation I had with Matt Fisher, a 2025 team member and now a mentor for 2026’s team, as well as a founding member of our Dallas Fort Worth All Bodies on Bikes chapter. We wanted to share his story as a peek into what it’s like to be part of the team. The next two episodes will focus on different aspects of the All Bodies on Bikes Mid South experience. Next week Marley chats with Coach Dave who works with athletes to create training programs they use throughout the winter. And in two weeks we're celebrating a celebration… aka gushing about what makes the DFL party special. (And yes, this is your little nudge to consider applying for next year’s team!)
