  Hello Seekers! Ooooooohhhhmmmaaaaannnn! Today's a good one! On multiple levels! Some of you know, some of you don't but I've been living in the Netherlands for the past four years. It's a beautiful country and I enjoy it very much however, one of the tougher adjustments that I've had to make is that I've had a tough time finding the more "mysterious and weird" aspect of the Netherlands. The occult angle here is always a pretty solid given, what with the Ritman library being here, a rich history of practicing alchemists and artists, as well as a castle supposedly inhabited by Faust. But it wasn't until my neighbor told mw about the UFO sighitngs over the area of Soesterberg that the doorway to "weird Netherlands" finally opened a crack! I can't wait to go on this adventure with you - both talking about this particular UFO sighting but also as we explore all the additional esoteric, paranormal and outright weird aspects of my new neighborhood. So I thought I would dedicate an episode to them :)   Before WitchTok or Occult Tok or paranormal YoutTube, there was the "paperback occult boom." In the 60s & 70s cheap, mass- market books on witchcraft, Satanisim, psychic powers, UFOs, hautings and ceremoial magic flooded bus stations, drug stores and mall bookstores; turning ancient hidden knowledge into mainstream consumer culture almost overnight. In this episode of Occulture Shock, we break down how paperback publishing transformed the occult forever, sparked public fueds between famous witches and Satanists, helped create the modern :pop occultisim," and ultimatly laid part of the ground work for the Satanic Panic that followed in the 1980s. At the center of those teachings was one of the most mysterious figures in occult history - The Count of Saint Germain. Her grassroots organization (later called Church Universal and Triumphant) grew to become a massive spiritual community out in Montana preaching good vibes.  BUT, during the height of the Cold War, the messages she claimed to be reciving started to take a darker and more menacing turn... For decades, shortwave radio listeners around the world have reported hearing anonymous broadcasts where a voice calmly reads  strings of numbers into the airwaves. There's no station identification. Just a string or groups of seemingly random numb ers, sometimes proceeded by music or a tone, and then....nada.   Hello Seekers! I've taken a hard left content-wise today and shifted gears into something that captured my imagination - and that is my absolute fascination with fortune telling and pre-cognition. Since I was little and read about Lincoln's Ghost Train from a Time Life Book: Mysteries of the Unknown volume, I've been obsessed with people being able to foretell the future. Today, on the Occulture Shock Podcast, I've cobbled together a short list of some of my favorite incidents, along with a little background on each. For example: Did you know... that England had a Premonitions Bureau that was responsible for some of the most scientifically documented incidents of premonition in the world? Did you know...that a man from Dublin trained in India to read palms and was so good, he amassed a fortune and, although now he is somewhat forgotten, almost all of his palmistry books are still in print and available? And speaking of books...did you know...that the sinking of the Titanic was foretold YEARS beforehand by an author writing about an unsinkable ship meeting its demise in the cold North Atlantic waters?
