  • Your Thinning Hair Might Be a Stomach Infection 14.09.2026 35min
A viral post claims a stomach infection reversal reversed a man's hair loss in 28 days. Dr. Chris Motley checks the science: how H. pylori shuts down your stomach acid, why that starves your hair follicles of iron and B12 before it shows up on a blood test, and why the popular kill stack for it fails for a specific group of people.  00:00:00 - The claim: hair regrowth in 28 days 00:01:46 - Welcome to the Ancient Health Podcast 00:01:59 - Why this post landed differently this time 00:03:47 - "It is something that is serious": the carcinogen most people shrug off 00:05:24 - Who's carrying it, and the family pattern behind it 00:06:01 - Dr. Motley's own undiagnosed childhood ulcer 00:08:29 - How H. pylori builds an acid-proof shelter out of your own chemistry 00:09:59 - What happens when the ammonia it makes spills into your bloodstream 00:11:25 - How you actually caught it (it's not from someone sneezing on you) 00:14:56 - The acid paradox nobody mentions in the viral post 00:15:46 - Sponsor break: Beam Minerals 00:17:52 - Same bacterium, two opposite acid problems, depending on where it sits 00:21:30 - The real chain from stomach acid to a thinning hair follicle 00:24:51 - "Your hair is the surplus of the blood": what Chinese medicine said first 00:27:50 - Why the mastic gum "kill stack" fails, and for whom 00:31:17 - Where to actually get tested 00:32:45 - Disclaimer and close Key Takeaways Thinning hair is a symptom, not the disease. Dr. Motley's framing: "the thinning hair is not the problem, the thinning hair is the receipt." H. pylori lowers stomach acid for most carriers, acid is required to absorb iron and B12, and hair follicles, among the most metabolically demanding tissue in the body, run out of raw material before a standard blood panel shows anything wrong. Check ferritin, not just hemoglobin. Ferritin (stored iron) drops before hemoglobin does. A normal red blood cell count on a standard panel does not rule out the iron deficiency that's already reached your hair. The mastic gum stack mentioned in the episode doesn't work the same for everyone. It requires an acidic stomach to be active, so anyone on a PPI for reflux is likely working against their own supplement. It's also built for the roughly 90 percent of carriers with low stomach acid, not the smaller group whose infection has pushed their acid up. The same infection can raise or lower your acid, depending on where it sits. An infection spread through the whole stomach tends to lower acid. An infection concentrated in the lower antral portion can raise it. H. pylori usually isn't caught in childhood. Most people acquire it early, often through a household member, most commonly transmitted through vomiting rather than casual contact. It is not a hygiene issue. The WHO classifies it as a carcinogen. It is linked to gastric cancer risk when an active infection is left unaddressed, so, test don’t guess, especially for anyone with two-plus months of reflux, bloating, or digestive symptoms. No trial supports hair regrowth in 28 days. The underlying mechanism (better iron and B12 absorption once acid recovers) is real and can meaningfully help hair health over time, but the hair growth cycle itself makes a four-week full reversal implausible. • Why You're Seeing Squiggly Lines (It Might Not Be Floaters) 11.09.2026 35min
Your eye exam came back normal, but your vision still isn't right. Dr. Chris Motley explains the Traditional Chinese Medicine case for why liver health, not just age, may be behind your floaters, flashes, or dim vision, including his own story of vision loss and recovery. He covers the real embryology behind "the eyes are a map of the brain," the labs he uses when a standard eye exam comes back clean, and the herbs and acupressure points he recommends for eye strength. [00:00:00] - Opening: why your eyes might be showing signs your eye doctor can't explain [00:00:26] - The real embryology: your eyes grow directly off your brain [00:02:11] - Iridology: reading the eye's lines and colors, and why it's contested [00:04:03] - Welcome to the Ancient Health Podcast, and the day's premise [00:07:14] - Chinese medicine's oldest eye theory: the liver opens into the eyes [00:08:17] - When the eye doctor finds nothing, and the questions start [00:10:01] - Old infections hiding in the brain, and the path to your eyes [00:11:22] - Floaters, squiggly lines, and the parasite possibility [00:15:32] - Dr. Motley's own story: losing vision in his right eye [00:19:20] - Specialty testing when the standard labs come back clean [00:20:38] - Why the liver is the real storehouse for eye health [00:23:40] - The infection-liver-eye pipeline: how pathogens steal your nutrients [00:26:06] - The herb protocol: Schisandra, Bodyguard, Morinda, and Cat's Claw Supreme [00:27:47] - Acupressure for the eyes: five points and the liver connection [00:30:57] - Recap and closing: what to do when your eye doctor can't explain it Key Takeaways Your eyes really are an extension of your brain, not just symbolically. Early in embryonic development, the eyes form as a direct outgrowth of the brain itself. This is standard developmental biology, not a TCM metaphor, and it's the real anatomical reason vision problems can be windows into neurological and systemic health rather than isolated eye issues. Traditional Chinese Medicine's oldest eye doctrine holds up as a documented framework. The idea that "the liver opens into the eyes" is one of TCM's five foundational organ-to-sense-organ correspondences (alongside kidney-ears and spleen-mouth), and it's been part of the system's diagnostic language for thousands of years. A clean eye exam doesn't always mean nothing is wrong. DR. Motley argues that when floaters, flashes, or dim vision persist despite normal dye tests, blood flow scans, and pressure checks, the next step isn't to give up, it's to look at whether an old infection (Lyme, mold, a lingering virus) picked up years earlier is still active in the body. The liver is a nutrient warehouse for your eyes. It stores vitamin A and hands it off via retinol-binding protein to feed the rods and cones that let you see a real, verified biochemical pathway. When a hidden infection is consuming those same nutrients in the liver, your eyes are the ones that go without. Floaters may not always be simple debris. Dr. Motley describes patients who say their floaters look like "little worms crawling across my eyes," and raises the possibility that some of what people write off as normal floaters could be a pathogen or parasite in the eye's own fluid, not only dead cell tissue. • Lyme Rage: Why Your Calm Kid Suddenly Became Someone Else 07.09.2026 43min
A child is doing fine, doing homework, laughing easily, getting along with everyone, and then over a few weeks they become someone else. Explosive anger over nothing. Can't sit still. Can't focus. Grades fall off a cliff, and the school has one word ready: ADHD. In this solo episode, Dr. Chris Motley asks the question almost nobody in that meeting asks: what if the personality change didn't start in the child's personality at all, but with a tick bite nobody noticed? Dr. Motley explains why a sudden, overnight personality change in a child, explosive anger, isolation, loss of focus, deserves a second look before accepting an ADHD label. He breaks down why Lyme disease is called "the great imitator," the biology behind "Lyme rage," how to build a timeline that helps your pediatrician rule infection in or out, and which labs and herbs he trusts in his own practice. Timestamps [00:00:00] - The child who became someone else [00:01:46] - A mother's story: normal one week, unrecognizable the next [00:04:16] - The tick bite nobody noticed [00:05:13] - When ADHD becomes the label, and the guilt that follows [00:08:00] - Knowledge as relief: what the lab tests actually found [00:09:10] - How to test for Lyme disease the right way [00:13:42] - Lyme disease: the "great imitator" [00:15:13] - Why ADHD and Lyme symptoms overlap so closely [00:21:29] - The genetics of ADHD: DDC, MAOA, and the "warrior gene" [00:26:32] - Back to Lyme rage: how inflammation turns a gentle child aggressive [00:30:48] - Getting tested: why a standard Western blot can miss it [00:33:26] - Picking the right lab: Vibrant Wellness, IGeneX, DNA Connexions [00:36:48] - Chinese medicine and the liver: why anger lives in an organ [00:39:12] - The herb protocol: cat's claw, Japanese knotweed, cryptolepis [00:42:13] - Closing: "Trust what you see in your kid" Key Takeaways A sudden personality change is the single biggest clue. Motley's rule of thumb, echoed by Lyme specialists: gradual, lifelong attention and behavior issues usually point to real ADHD. A dramatic shift that happens within days or weeks, especially after time outdoors, is worth a second look for an infectious cause before settling on a behavioral diagnosis alone. "Lyme rage" is a real, named phenomenon, not a scare tactic. Lyme disease crossing the blood brain barrier can drive neuroinflammation that shows up as sudden irritability, anxiety, and explosive anger. It is documented by Lyme-literate clinicians and patient organizations, though it is not a formal psychiatric diagnosis. The lab you choose changes the answer you get. A standard five-band Western blot can miss a real Lyme infection if it does not happen to test for the specific Borrelia strain present. Comprehensive panels from labs built specifically for tick-borne disease test for a much wider range of strains and co-infections. This is not an anti-ADHD or anti-medication episode. Motley repeats, more than once, that he is not telling anyone to stop treatment or medication. The message is narrower: if a child's ADHD treatment is not producing progress, or the onset was sudden, it is worth asking your pediatrician whether an infection could be part of the picture. Build a timeline before your next doctor's visit. Write down when the behavior actually changed, whether it was sudden or gradual, and whether there was time outdoors, hiking, or in tall grass beforehand. That single piece of paper is what turns a vague conversation into a specific one. The liver-anger connection is Traditional Chinese Medicine's oldest lens on rage. In TCM, a congested liver is associated with unflushed histamine and irritability. Motley uses this as his starting point for herbal support, independent of whether Lyme disease is involved. The comfort matters as much as the information. Motley spends real time telling parents, in his words, that "the old medicine never blamed the child, never blamed the parent." For a parent who has done everything right and is still watching their child struggle, that reframe is arguably the most valuable thing in the episode. • The 2 PM Brain Fog Clue: How to Tell If Your Brain Isn't Detoxing While You Sleep 04.09.2026 43min
If you have swollen lymph nodes, this episode will teach you how your mighty glymphatic system drains toxins from your brain to what in Chinese Medicine is called your stomach 12 point. In this episode, Doctor Chris Motley explains the ins and outs of caring for your lymphatic system and how to promote lymphatic drainage through the activation of your triple warmer in Chinese Medicine. He also shares how to look after your body's lymph flow while taking a GLP-1, and the right way to do lymphatic massage on yourself. Key Points from this episode: The recently discovered glymphatic system drains toxins from your brain into your stomach 12 point in Chinese Medicine. This system is powered by sleep: good sleep is essential (wear a sleep monitor to ensure you're getting the deep level of sleep needed for your glymphatic system!). How to know when you're not reaching the cleansing layer of sleep needed for your glymphatic system to operate fully: The tell is when your brain fog won't clear until 2 in the afternoon! Dr. Motley's Best Lymphatic Recommendations: 1) Lymphatic massage or ELT (electrolymphatic therapy) or self-massage and dry brushing (work your way UP, not down). 2) Herbs: Hemoguard helps support blood flow, which is an essential link to lymph flow: https://tinyurl.com/yvzbs8au Manjistha Supreme promotes good lymph flow: https://tinyurl.com/mu9u5yx7 How caring for your liver and spleen are important to the lymphatic system. Doctor Motley explains that in Chinese Medicine the spleen is in charge of moving your fluids from your food and drink through your body. How to know if your spleen is weak through a Chinese Medicine lens: Doctor Motley recalls a patient who suffered from spleen fatigue, and the tell-tale sign was a ring around the lips (chapped lips is a sign as well!). How to strengthen the spleen and liver to promote lymphatic health: Grass-fed sheep thymus: https://tinyurl.com/3kduh2n6 Grass-fed beef spleen https://amzn.to/3QS265f or a PMG supplement from standard process are Doctor Motley's recommendations for optimizing the spleen. Flush the liver with Dandelion root and Schisandra: https://tinyurl.com/a24kyuzz How to be mindful of proper lymph flow when taking a GLP-1. This is not an anti-GLP-1 episode (in fact Doctor Motley's own patients use them now and then), but it's advice for helping the medication work properly. If you're losing muscle, be on the lookout for fluid buildup. Take proteins that work for you, flush your liver, strengthen your spleen and get some moderate exercise to help protect your lymph flow while on GLP-1s. The emotions connected to your spleen in Chinese Medicine that could be affecting lymphatic drainage: worry, overthinking (or, in Chinese Medicine terms "too much mind."), obsessing over outcomes. If you're a chronic worrier, this could affect your immune function. To tend to these emotions well, Doctor Motley recommends emotion work like EMDR. Want more of The Ancient Health Podcast? • The Hidden Infection Behind Your Post-Nasal Drip 31.08.2026 39min
Fall doesn't always cause your sinus congestion. It just knows how to find whatever was already sitting there. In this episode, Dr. Chris Motley walks through the Traditional Chinese Medicine map that connects the exact location of a headache or a patch of sinus pressure to a specific internal organ, and why that map keeps showing up in his practice. Key Takeaways Your headache location is diagnostic, not random.A two-week case of post-nasal drip traced back to a bladder infection: Dr. Motley's patient cleared her sinus congestion only after he treated her bladder and kidney meridian points, a connection her prior doctor visits hadn't made. Fall triggers stored trauma, not just cold weather. Because the body encodes every sense during a traumatic event, seasonal cues like cooler air and shorter days can resurface them as physical congestion.  Dr. Motley argues sinuses, kidney nephrons, gallbladder bile ducts, and the brain all develop from the same cell line, which is why infections jump between them. Standard embryology backs the sinus and brain half (both are ectoderm) but not the kidney (mesoderm) or gallbladder (endoderm) half.  00:00:00 Opening: why fall seems to trigger sinus headaches, post-nasal drip, and migraines 00:01:19 Welcome to the Ancient Health Podcast 00:01:33 The core rule: where your headache sits tells you which organ is involved 00:03:05 Case study: the E.coli bladder infection hiding behind a patient's post-nasal drip 00:04:19 Why fall specifically resurfaces old emotional trauma as physical congestion 00:06:34 EMDR, neurofeedback, and tapping: clearing the trauma before it becomes sinus pain 00:11:54 The organ map: bladder, gallbladder, stomach, triple warmer, small intestine, and more 00:14:13 Get checked: the hidden UTI, kidney, and gallbladder infections behind your headache 00:16:30 Beam Minerals and why mineral depletion undercuts everything else on this list 00:17:53 The biofilm problem: how old strep and mono build a fortress in your gut 00:24:29 The embryology answer: why sinuses, kidneys, gallbladder, and brain get infected together 00:28:25 The protocol: sprays, acupressure points, and the antimicrobial herbs he actually uses 00:33:56 Homeopathy, lab testing, and how to decide where to start Dr. Motley's go-to herbal recommendations: Cat’s Claw Supreme: https://tinyurl.com/yu8ntvu7 Japanese Knotweed: https://tinyurl.com/296dkaby Alchornea Supreme: https://shorturl.at/3HSJ Elderberry Supreme: https://tinyurl.com/kxvnrtep Echinacea Supreme: https://tinyurl.com/ms9ectd4 Usnea Supreme: https://tinyurl.com/ye5ks88c DesBio Headache: https://dbscript.com/product/headache/, Dr. Motley’s practitioner code is f9367150 *Most of us are mineral deficient and we don’t even know it! • Your Gut Is Recirculating Your Own Bad Estrogen 27.08.2026 1t 3min
Why are so many young women experiencing painful periods, endometriosis, Hashimoto's and hormonal chaos? After falling ill with Graves Disease in medical school, functional endocrinologist Dr. Cassie Smith made it her life’s mission to chase these kinds of questions. In her new book Fix Your Gut, Fix Your Hormones (https://a.co/d/0gbCrVD6) she tackles the real gut-hormone connection behind estrogen dominance, PCOS, thyroid dysfunction, and painful periods. Dr. Smith shares the answers she found, a roadmap for better health, better periods and common-sense steps to become the CEO of your own health.  In this episode you will learn:  Why younger women are struggling with their periods Why low progesterone is so common in women in their 20s How constipation and poor fiber intake worsen PMS, bloating, and breast tenderness The impact of long-term birth control use on hormone production Simple, affordable lab tests most OBs don't order but should Exactly how your gut affects your hormones, step by step, by way of your vagus nerve. How a young person could experience a cycle of stress, a bacteria or strep infection, then their antibiotics for treating the strep as well as birth control and acid-blockers can impair their guts affecting their cycle. How, if, as women, our estrogen leaves our body down the four-hydroxy pathway (the pathway that can lead to cancer), more often when we have increased visceral fat, excess stress or intense gut dysbiosis. How important our health is, and the value in taking responsibility for our good health. Self-value, seeing the sun enough in a day and movement all play a role in balancing our hormones.   Not only can excess estrogen affect our moods, but it puts extra stress on our bodies revving up our cortisol and lowering progesterone (the calming hormone), throwing our mood and sleep out the window.  Nutritional changes can make a difference. Avoid sugar in your food and drinks (read the  labels!), and aim for thirty-five grams of fiber for regular, healthy bowel movements. Estrogen dominance from dysbiosis doesn’t necessarily mean you have enough of the estrogen you need.  How having a Dutch test every few years is incredibly useful for locating early signs of hormonal imbalances.  A roadmap to fix painful periods. Laser in on how much sugar you’re eating (and drinking!) Don’t eat wheat made in America if you have Hashimotos, because it may cause a high TPO antibody to attack your thyroid. How babies rely on their mother’s thyroid until 18 weeks in-utero, so if you want to get pregnant, optimizing your thyroid is a must.  Want more of The Ancient Health Podcast? • Ask Your Doctor These 4 Words Before You Take a Statin with Dr. Philip Ovadia 24.08.2026 1t 1min
After performing thousands of open-heart surgeries, Dr. Philip Ovadia recognized that the vast majority were preventable…if his patients had improved their metabolic health in the first place. In this episode, Dr. Chris Motley sat down with heart surgeon, author and podcaster Dr. Philip Ovadia to learn about the underrated relationship between insulin resistance and heart disease, and what you need to know to arm yourself at home and in the doctor’s office. Small correction from the intro: Dr. Ovadia is a board-certified cardiac surgeon, not a cardiologist. He has performed over 3,000 heart surgeries across 25-plus years If heart disease has been the number one killer for so long, isn’t it possible that we’re tackling it the wrong way? Dr. Ovadia’s belief is that our emphasis on cholesterol has done us a disservice when it comes to heart health.  If you have a family history of heart issues, or a heart condition yourself, learn how Dr. Ovadia believes you can stay off his operating table.  Timestamps [00:00:00] Cold open: 95% of heart patients had this, and it was not high cholesterol [00:00:56] Every 40 seconds: the killer that has held first place for a hundred years [00:02:41] "The patient is never as good after they have the surgery" [00:04:26] From five years old to 3,000 open hearts, and what the first one is like [00:08:47] The cholesterol answer a heart surgeon is not supposed to give [00:12:26] Insulin resistance, sugar, and the linkage he says is far stronger [00:14:56] The five markers of metabolic disease, and the one your doctor watches instead [00:17:33] Statins: how "high" fell from 140 to 70, and what the 33% really means [00:21:37] "What are we saving?" Mitochondria, muscle aches, and the diabetes signal [00:24:07] Four words to ask at your next appointment [00:27:49] The signs your body gives years early: the belly, the face, skin tags, low energy [00:31:18] The $10 test that comes years before symptoms, and the number to look for [00:32:49] Real food, vitamin K2, CoQ10, and a heart surgeon defending red meat [00:37:44] Build muscle first, because muscle is where the sugar goes [00:40:57] Valves, strep, and the heart disease insulin does not explain [00:44:18] Genetics load the gun. Your habits pull the trigger. [00:46:17] Optimism, stress, and the family in the waiting room: what a surgeon looks for [00:48:36] The elimination diet, the meat reset, and the permission slip [00:55:23] Where to find Dr. Ovadia, and why his own team tells him to stop In this episode you will learn: Why cholesterol and LDLs are not the real enemy of the heart and how sugar is the real culprit when it comes to heart disease.  Why 70 years of cholesterol-focused medicine hasn't reduced heart disease — and what the data actually shows about LDL's role in cardiac events The Kraft Test: Ovadia is referring to the work of Dr. Joseph R. Kraft, a pathologist who ran insulin assays on 14,384 patients and concluded that "those with cardiovascular disease not identified with diabetes are simply undiagnosed." The peer-reviewed analysis of his database (Crofts et al., 2016) found that more than half of patients with entirely normal glucose tolerance were nonetheless hyperinsulinaemic. Why your fasting insulin level is the most important number most doctors never order — and how to get it tested for around $10 What exactly to ask your doctor about insulin resistance, and signs and symptoms for it: waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting glucose, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides. • Is Your Child Dysregulated? This Therapist Calls for a 30-Day Family Digital Detox 20.08.2026 54min
Children are on screens 7 to 9 hours a day according to the latest data. In  this episode, Dr. Chris Motley sat down with Dr. Stacy Jagger, aka “Dr. Sassy,” family therapist, mental health expert and author of The 30-Day Blackout to learn how a month-long digital detox for the whole family regulates a child’s nervous system, resolves many behavioral issues and even ADHD symptoms naturally, and allows struggling families to find healing and connection.  Content Warning: There is a brief mention of childhood sexual abuse toward the end of the episode. The subject is not lingered on.  Dr. Stacy reveals her profound story of grappling with her own childhood and how it inspired her to help children struggling emotionally. She walks us through what the 30-Day detox looks like and why children aren’t meant to handle the exposure to screens they have today. This deep and meaningful conversation also includes insights on healing from trauma as an adult and the freedom in good, old-fashioned play.  Whether your kids are struggling to focus and all over the map emotionally or you just feel your family is drifting into disconnection, this episode on digital detoxing is for you. In this episode, you will learn:  How screen time has taken over nearly every square inch of our lives, fostering a lack of connection, play and the constructive energy that only boredom can create. It sends kids’ nervous systems over the edge and thwarts their natural access to creativity, connection, nature and play.  How a digital detox perturbs a family system, providing a pathway for healing core issues.  While neurofeedback and nutritional changes are extremely helpful for children dealing with ADHD, cutting screen time can help reduce symptoms.   The gryphon roundup, plus the Opal App or the Freedom App, are all tools that protect kids and regulate screen time.  How adults can heal generational trauma with tools like Ketamine therapy.  In Dr. Stacy’s experience, when families complete a digital detox, they stop craving sugar, and begin making wiser choices for their health. Detoxing from screens helps uncover intuition and impulse control.  Want more of The Ancient Health Podcast? Subscribe to the YouTube channel. ------  Follow Doctor Motley! • Alzheimer's Is Up 134% Since 2000 — Dani Williamson on the Lifestyle Triggers and How to Prevent It 17.08.2026 1t 3min
Alzheimer's disease has increased 134% since the year 2000. Over 7 million Americans are currently living with full-blown Alzheimer's disease. Not mild cognitive impairment, not brain fog, but diagnosed Alzheimer's. One in five women and one in ten men will receive that diagnosis in their lifetime. And according to ALZ.org, the risk has gone up 134% in just 24 years. For many people, this is not a genetic crisis: it’s a lifestyle crisis, and that means it is largely preventable. In this episode, Dr. Chris Motley sits down with integrative nurse practitioner, author and Alzheimer's prevention advocate Dani Williamson — whose mother died of Alzheimer's at 78 with zero genetic markers for the disease — to have the honest, urgent conversation about what is actually driving the dementia epidemic, and what every person can do right now to protect their brain. In this episode you'll discover: Why Alzheimer's has increased 134% since 2000 while heart disease has decreased — and what that statistical reversal tells us about the true nature of this disease Why one in five women will be diagnosed with Alzheimer's — more than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined — and why it remains dramatically underfunded and under-discussed The shocking genetic test result that changed how Dani understands her mother's disease — and why most Alzheimer's cases are lifestyle-driven, not genetically determined How childhood trauma, smoking, alcohol, poor sleep, chronic stress, and mold exposure combined to create the perfect conditions for Alzheimer's in Dani's mother's brain The mold-Alzheimer's connection: how mycotoxins change the morphology of nerve cells, create biofilm in the brain, and produce the "snot in your brain" effect driving cognitive decline How hidden viruses — including HSV-1 (cold sores), Epstein-Barr virus, and HHV-6 (Roseola) — increase Alzheimer's risk by damaging nerve cells and disrupting brain signalling Why one in six people carry the herpes simplex virus without knowing it — and how managing it proactively could reduce dementia risk The thyroid-brain connection: how Hashimoto's thyroiditis and thyroid dysfunction directly drive brain fog, memory loss and early cognitive decline Why perimenopause and menopause are being misdiagnosed as early dementia — and how optimising estrogen, progesterone and testosterone can bring memory and clarity back The endometriosis-brain connection: how inflammation in the reproductive system blocks the conception vessel meridian's energy from reaching the brain and thyroid Why the tampons and pads most women have used for decades contain glyphosate and bleach — and how switching to organic products reduced period symptoms dramatically within the first two cycles How mold on corn, wheat and processed grains silently accumulates in the body — and why Dr. Motley's FDA contact confirmed that batches of corn are routinely rejected for dangerous mold levels Resolvins — the omega-3 derivative that goes beyond fish oil — and why Dani calls it one of the non-negotiables she will take until her final day Why low-dose naltrexone (LDN) may have an unexplored role in Alzheimer's prevention and inflammation control The TCM fire element connection: how the ovaries, adrenal glands and thyroid form an energetic circuit along the conception vessel — and why inflammation in the reproductive organs can starve the brain of qi Dani's six foundational steps for Alzheimer's prevention: eat well, sleep well, move well, poop well, de-stress well, commune well Why ballroom dancing is the number one exercise for memory — and why boxing is rapidly gaining ground for both Alzheimer's and Parkinson's prevention The Bristol Stool Chart explained: why daily bowel movements matter for brain health, what your stool shape reveals about toxin clearance, and why Dani says "poop like your poodle" The early warning signs of cognitive decline to watch for in aging parents — including increasing clutter, hoarding, and giving away money impulsively Why sleep is when the brain's glymphatic system flushes toxins — and how even one poor night of sleep impairs that critical detox process The role of lymphatic drainage, infrared sauna, and EAV testing in supporting brain health and reducing the toxic burden that accelerates cognitive decline Whether you have a family history of Alzheimer's, are noticing early signs in yourself or a loved one, or simply want to protect your brain for decades to come — this episode is key. • Your Mold Attack May Not Be About Mold: Emotional Root Causes with Dr. Howard Cohn 13.08.2026 1t 11min
What if that moldy AirBnB wasn’t the true cause of your illness, even after you found mycotoxins in your lab work? What if there was a deeper emotion behind it? In this episode, Dr. Chris Motley sits down with Dr. Howard Cohn to talk about emotional root causes, stacking protocols to truly get well and the tool that gives his patients six months of therapy in under a minute. Learn more at https://biostacking.com/, where you can sign up to learn all the protocols and transformative health education discussed in this episode. Dr. Howard Cohn has been in practice for over 35 years, trained thousands of doctors, and built health companies that reached 14 countries. But the insight that changed everything in his practice wasn't exotic — it was the realization that most patients weren't failing because they lacked the right answer. They were failing because nobody had given them the right combination, in the right order, at the right time.  In this episode you will learn: What Bio Stacking actually means — and why it's fundamentally different from biohacking, which gives you one tool when you need a whole toolkit Why the right treatment done at the wrong time is the wrong treatment — and how Dr. Cohn's wellness scoring system (1–100) determines exactly where to start The "combination to a safe" analogy: why knowing all the right answers (mold detox, binders, acupuncture, red light, ozone) still won't work if you dial them in the wrong sequence. The concept of psychogenetics — how unprocessed emotional events in parents and grandparents can tag the genes and pass down to children as physiological responses, not just behavioural ones Why most "root cause" doctors are actually somewhere along the stem — and what it really means to keep asking "why" until you reach the constitutional root Why alkalinity is Dr. Cohn’s fifth vital sign - and how oxygen from greens like wheatgrass fight inflammation and infections.  How Dr. Cohn created a nutritional line for his patients to fill nutritional gaps due to depleted nutrients in our soil degrading our food. How the Cohn vision of health isn’t necessarily about being symptom-free. It’s about having the tools to live with ease amidst all the modern-day environmental stressors we encounter like toxins and EMFs. In Dr. Cohn’s way of thinking, “if you don’t have a filter, you are the filter.” Mold symptoms may have as much to do with emotional chaos in your life as mold. Dr. Cohn advocates the use of NET, which he describes as a fusion of Chinese Medicine and pavlovian conditioning, and explains why it can provide six months of therapy in a minute. • The 25-Year Rash: Dr. Steven Zodkoy on Biofilms, Buried Trauma, and Why Your UTI Isn't a UTI 10.08.2026 1t 4min
A rash baffled 25 years of dermatologists. It disappeared in a week once Dr. Steven Zodkoy traced it to a childhood memory. Here's what that case, and the concept of a "biofilm," has to do with your migraines and your bladder. Dr. Chris Motley sits down with Dr. Steven Zodkoy, a chiropractor and applied kinesiologist who became the first in his field to pass the American College of Nutrition exam, a credential previously reserved for MDs and PhDs. Thirty-five years into practice, Dr. Zodkoy specializes in the patient conventional medicine gave up on: the migraine sufferer, the "recurring UTI" patient who never actually had a UTI, the chronic fatigue case with a normal bloodwork panel. His framework rests on one idea most doctors do not test for: the biofilm, a sticky protective layer that bacteria, viruses, mold, and parasites lay down to hide from the immune system and from treatment. Once one pathogen builds a biofilm, Zodkoy argues, it invites others in, which is why a "cured" infection so often resurfaces as something else entirely, chronic sinusitis becoming Lyme-like fatigue, a bladder infection becoming a lifetime of unexplained pelvic tightness, a resistant childhood strain becoming an adult autoimmune diagnosis.  Key Takeaways Biofilms are why a "cleared" infection keeps coming back as something else. A biofilm is the mucous-like shield a bacterium, virus, parasite, or mold colony builds to hide from the immune system and from antibiotics. Once it's there, he says, it invites other pathogens to shelter in it too, which can explain why chronic sinusitis, Lyme-linked fatigue, and mold exposure so often show up in the same patient.  Interstitial cystitis is frequently a tight-bladder problem being treated as a recurrent UTI. Dr. Zodkoy's read: stress and anxiety tighten the bladder, it never fully empties, and what's left behind gets infected, so the antibiotic treats a symptom while the muscle stays tight and the infections keep returning. His protocol adjusts the pelvic floor and pubic symphysis, then layers in biofilm-breaking supplements and emotional work.  A 25-year rash resolved after one round of Neuro-Emotional Technique tied to an age-seven memory. Every physical test on this patient, mold, yeast, parasites, heavy metals, came back clean. Emotional testing didn't.  His migraine protocol runs liver support first, nervous system second, emotional work third, in that order, on purpose. Dr. Zodkoy's 1992 theory ties migraines to a slow-functioning liver overloaded by chemical exposure, hormones, or diet. He walks us through his 8-week liver protocol, 16 weeks including autonomic nervous system support, and a 96% success rate once emotional work is added. You cannot do deep detox or trauma work on a nervous system that has nothing left. There’s no point moving to detox, biofilm-clearing, or emotional release until a patient's self-rated energy crosses roughly 50 to 60 out of 100.  [00:00:00] Cold open: migraines, interstitial cystitis, chronic fatigue, and the biofilm nobody explains  [00:02:02] Origin story: "doctor, lawyer, doctor" and practicing three months before 25  [00:04:04] Why he became a nutritionist first: the autonomic nervous system as the missing piece  [00:06:08] Finding a hidden emotion: the six-minute visit versus a real history  [00:09:37] The HPA axis toolkit: DHEA, GABA, adaptogens, and a gut bacterium built for stress  [00:11:27] NET, emotion code, and generational trauma: "it doesn't have to be real, it has to be believed"  [00:14:36] The 25-year rash: a muscle test, a forgotten age seven, and a mother's confession  [00:19:04] Migraines: the 1992 liver theory, the 80/20 split, and a claimed 96% success rate  [00:23:43] Interstitial cystitis is not a UTI: the tight bladder nobody is treating [00:27:06]  Killing the biofilm: natokinase, antimicrobials, and cranial electrotherapy stimulation  [00:31:29] The sympathetic-parasympathetic seesaw, and why healing collapses without it  [00:34:59] The "oomph" scale: testing cortisol at home and in the office  [00:36:27] The protocol in order: glandulars, adaptogens, and parasympathetic support, dosed on purpose  [00:43:30] Chronic fatigue, sinus biofilms, and the "house party" that becomes Lyme, EBV, and mold  [00:47:19] Parasites in America, and the TG/HDL ratio he says predicts heart risk  [01:00:02] Closing: where to find Dr. Zodkoy, and a teed-up follow-up on the healthcare system Resources Mentioned Tools & Products Biofilm Clear: Zodkoy's stated favorite combination product for breaking down biofilms, made up of natokinase, serrapeptase, lumbrokinase, and bromelain. • The Tooth That Keeps Breaking is Pointing to an Organ: Chinese Medicine's Meridian Tooth Chart 07.08.2026 37min
A viral documentary sent thousands of people rushing to pull their teeth. The theory behind it — the focal infection theory — dates back to a dentist in the 1920s named Weston Price, was largely rejected by the mid-twentieth century, and yet has roared back to life on the internet with enough force to create genuine panic. Dr. Chris Motley isn't here to add to that panic. He's here to do something more useful: look at the science and arguments behind both sides of the issue, and surface the conversation about oral health and the whole-body connection that nobody in mainstream dentistry wants to have. In this episode you'll discover: The focal infection theory explained — where it came from, why it was rejected, and why it went viral again a hundred years later The verified research finding that should be in every dentist's waiting room: oral bacteria linked to Alzheimer's disease has been found in patients' brains, and gum bacteria has been found in heart arteries What the meridian tooth chart is — the ancient Chinese medicine map that connected every single tooth to a specific organ thousands of years before modern diagnostics existed How EAV testing (electroacupuncture according to Voll) measures the electrical conductivity of meridian points — and what it reveals about the organ connected to a tooth with a root canal Why some patients live perfectly well with root canals — and the acupuncture assessment Dr. Motley uses to determine when a tooth is creating systemic stress and when it isn't The truth about metal fillings and mercury vaporization — and why drilling out a stable filling could actually cause more harm than leaving it in place Why a cone beam 3D scan reveals hidden infections that a standard flat dental X-ray completely misses The questions Dr. Motley recommends asking your dentist before agreeing to a root canal — including whether the nerve is still alive and what happens if the procedure fails How MicrogenDX oral testing screens for over 50,000 bacterial species in the mouth — and why standard dental culture tests miss the vast majority of what's living there The oral bacteria most strongly linked to gingivitis, Alzheimer's disease and cardiovascular disease — and the herbal protocol Dr. Motley uses to reduce bacterial load naturally Why oil pulling with coconut oil, Golden Thread Supreme, Melia Supreme and Noni (Morinda) are Dr. Motley's go-to tools for oral microbiome health How the lung meridian connects to skin health, and what sores or chronic inflammation inside the nostrils are actually signalling about deeper organ function Why finding a dentist who understands and respects the mouth-body connection is Dr. Motley's single most important first step for anyone dealing with chronic oral or dental health issues Whether you have a root canal already, are considering one, or have simply been told your teeth are fine while the rest of your body isn't — this episode will permanently change the way you think about your mouth. • Grounding: the honest truth about barefoot healing (is the $200 version worth it?) 28.07.2026 33min
Most subjects of a recent study who slept on pads connected to the ground, as part of an earthing protocol, gained significant relief from arthritis, asthma, PMS, sleep apnea and hypertension. We're a generation that's uniquely separated from the Earth. We spend much of our lives in cars, we live in high-rises, and spend the majority of our days working indoors. Why does this matter? Because we're electric beings who actually need the negative ions from standing in the ground, the ocean and even on rocks to support our health outcomes. In this episode Doctor Chris Motley explains why we need negative ions from the ground, the dirt and the sea to help our bodies ward off illness, why this health trend is actually an ancient (and free!) form of medicine, and the two most important things to keep in mind if you’re shopping grounding mats. Whether you're a skeptic or a true believer, try sinking your bare feet in the ground at some point during your week. It's easy, free and it can't hurt to get the benefits of spending time outdoors. In this episode you'll learn: You don't need to buy anything to practice grounding. This is a free and easy protocol that every human being has access to. How our bodies follow electrical patterns (even as embryos!) which is why we need negatively charged ions from the earth that support our health. Negative ions in the body help energize our mitochondria and detoxify our bodies. What the research on grounding has found and what it hasn't. The benefits of grounding and earthing for your nervous system. How PEMF mats support your blood flow. How the earth has proven frequencies like the Schumann Resonance that lower blood pressure and encourage parasympathetic tone. How to avoid parasites while sinking your feet into the dirt. If grounding pads and mats are worth it and two of the most important things to keep an eye out for when shopping for them. How the modern idea of grounding actually taps into the ancient Chinese Medicine tradition of rooting in Qigong. The kidney points responsible for pulling those electric charges up through your body. • Mouth Taping Could Be Closing Your Emergency Exit — What to Fix First According to Ancient Medicine 24.07.2026 39min
Is mouth taping actually safe — or could it be closing your body's emergency exit while a bigger problem goes undetected? In this episode, Dr. Chris Motley takes on one of the biggest wellness trends of the moment: mouth taping. And while he's firmly in the camp that nasal breathing is one of the most underrated things you can do for your health, he brings a unique perspective to the discussion… your mouth could be wanting to open at night for a reason, and taping it shut without finding out why could mean masking undiagnosed sleep apnea, hidden sinus infections, or structural issues that ancient medicine has been addressing for thousands of years.  In this episode you'll discover: Why your nose is a piece of biological genius — and the germ-killing gas it produces that your mouth simply cannot replicate What nitric oxide actually does inside your nasal passage: how it kills bacteria, viruses, mold, and pathogens before they ever reach your lungs Why mouth breathing bypasses your body's built-in air filter, humidifier, and infection defence system with every single breath The real reason your mouth falls open at night — and why it's almost never just a bad habit How hidden sinus infections, nasal septum deviation, swollen adenoids, lymph node congestion, and upper cervical misalignment could all be forcing you to breathe through your mouth Why mouth taping could be dangerous for people with undiagnosed sleep apnea — and the warning signs to watch for before you try it How the vagus nerve connects to your soft palate — and why chronic stress and fight-or-flight mode causes mouth breathing and snoring The TCM concept of Wei Chi — your body's defensive energy — and how nasal breathing generates and distributes it through your meridians Why the Dan Tian (the energy reservoir near your belly button) depends on deep nasal breathing to stay charged How the lungs and nose are connected in Chinese medicine — and what scabs, sores, or chronic stuffiness in your nose are actually telling you about your lung and heart health Dr. Motley's recommended approach: clean out the infections, fix the structure, retrain the breathing — then reassess mouth taping Qigong breathing techniques that build nasal breathing capacity naturally — without tape If you snore, gasp in the night, wake up unrefreshed, or have been thinking about trying mouth taping, this episode could change everything about how you approach your sleep and your breath. ------  Want more of The Ancient Health Podcast? • The Diarrhea Parasite Spreading Across 30 States — What Is Cyclospora and How to Clear It Naturally 21.07.2026 30min
A parasite is crawling across 34 states, with thousands of confirmed cases across America. Cyclospora is causing that explosive diarrhea, aka the parasite flu, you’ve no doubt heard about in the news. In this episode, Dr. Chris Motley lays out the facts about what we know, his best advice for avoiding contamination and your full treatment options from both modern and ancient science. Where the outbreak stands Current as of publication, July 21, 2026. This story is moving quickly, so check the CDC and FDA pages below for the latest. FDA and CDC are investigating a five-state outbreak linked to shredded iceberg lettuce served at some Taco Bell locations in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia. FDA reports 1,644 illnesses and 94 hospitalizations in that outbreak, with no deaths. Illness onset dates run from May 13 to July 13, 2026. FDA's traceback converged on a single supplier, Taylor Farms de Mexico. On July 17 the company voluntarily removed all iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico from the U.S. market and began a recall. A lettuce sample initially tested positive on July 18. FDA re-reviewed the result and declared it a false positive on July 19. FDA has stated this does not change its conclusion about the outbreak's link to that lettuce, and the recall stands. In this episode you’ll learn: Cyclospora is a protozoan parasite that can go dormant or activate depending on how strong your immune system is. The gross part: People infected with Cyclospora shed oocysts in their feces which can contaminate food or water.  Symptoms to look out for: watery diarrhea that won't go away (this is the big indicator), bone-deep fatigue you can't shake off, explosive bowel movements and loss of appetite. Prevention: Soak your produce thoroughly with an apple cider vinegar and baking soda wash, but most importantly...Cook your produce! Heat kills this parasite. Keep an eye on restaurant reports as much as possible. It's not always possible to know where your favorite restaurant sources its food, but be on the lookout for information about where they get their food and how careful they are with their ingredients. Steps to take if you are potentially infected: Ask to be tested for cyclospora specifically, by name, because it won't be included in routine tests. Treatment options:  1) The antibiotic - it's called TMP - SMX (Trimethoprim - sulfamethoxazole). Brand names are Bactrim or Septra. Standard treatment is a 7 to 10 day course, with longer courses for folks with weakened immune systems. 2) Anti-parasitics - Ivermectin, Fenbendazole 3) Ancient Medicine - Huang Lian is an ancient Chinese herb that cools the gut. • Chronic Strep: Why It Never Actually Left Your Body 14.07.2026 29min
If you had a chronic case of strep as a kid it may be lingering around your organs. Here’s what you can do about it. In this episode, Dr. Motley explains why recurring strep infections are not new infections at all, they are the same bacteria getting more antibiotic-resistant each time. He connects chronic strep to anemia, autoimmune disease, and PANS/PANDAS, then walks through the herbs and lab tests he uses to root it out. This is a re-post of an earlier episode to highlight the importance of this issue and raise awareness. Scroll down for a list of Dr. Motley’s recommended solutions.  In this episode you will learn:  How strep can get in your lungs (strep pneumonia), your heart and even your lymph nodes, how to test for it and what herbs + vitamin regimens can help fight it off.  Strep can hide in a “silent carrier” state. Learn about the lingering unexplained symptoms that signal strep, including brain fog and hormonal issues. How a poor immune system mixed with environmental toxins allows strep to stick around in a dormant state. How this could be behind your malabsorption issues, if there’s no other explanation. Strep can feed off your red blood cells.  Dr. Motley’s own personal battle with strep and its connection to excess sugar in the diet.  Recommendations: Watch your sugar intake Labs to test for this: MicroGenDx.com - for strep strains standard labs miss vibrant-wellness.com - for expanded infection panels Herbs to take for strep (For Adults): Melia (Neem): https://shorturl.at/TYF12 Golden Thread: https://shorturl.at/fASWv Morinda: https://shorturl.at/LWUMK Lighter herbs (liquid forms are great for kids!) • Mastic Gum Won’t Cure Cancer - But What It Does For Your Gut is Impressive Enough 10.07.2026 31min
Mastic Gum is an ancient remedy that's been shown in a clinical study to kill off H-Pylori, and other research suggests it reduces oral bacteria. Is this viral cure hyped up or is there weight behind these claims? Mastic Gum is composed of resin from the chios tree in the Mediterranean: Hippocrates prescribed it to patients and it's been used medicinally for over 2,500 years. In this episode, Dr. Chris Motley examines the research and gets to the bottom of how effective this might be for fighting bacteria, ulcers and keeping your mouth clean. Get Dr. Motley's take on whether this ancient traditional medicine is worth your time and money. In this episode you’ll learn: How an impressive study found mastic kills H. • Take off your sunglasses: how light in your eyes secretly runs your hormones, sleep, and mood 07.07.2026 35min
Should you be wearing sunglasses? We always thought the eyes just had one job: to see color and send pictures of our environment to our brains, but did you know that they also have a sensor that tells the brain when it’s time to get going for the day and when it’s time to sleep? That sensor can get disrupted when you head out with sunglasses on. In this episode, Dr. Motley weighs the pros and cons of sunglasses (at least in the morning!) by examining the science of light and circadian rhythms. In this episode you'll learn: How using sunglasses too frequently in the morning can throw our body’s natural clock out of whack and interfere with our sleep cycles. How blue light in the morning (the natural kind you see in the sky) shuts off melatonin and activates cortisol by 50%, basically functioning as a cup of espresso for our bodies, and fake blue light at night confuses our sleep signals, suppressing melatonin within about 5 minutes. How light regulates our hormones and acts as our body’s information center for when to start the day and when to get sleepy at night.  The effects of sunlight deficiency on our bodies and brains. The difference between the kind of cortisol we need to help us function during the day and the kind that’s harmful. Doctor Motley’s recommended full-day light protocol for resetting your internal clock. Get some light in your eyes within an hour of waking, and dim your lights at night. In TCM, eye health is tied to the liver. If you’re a sunglasses lover try to prioritize getting morning light into your eyes for 30 minutes (looking through a window may not really be enough, so head outside for a bit). Sunlight in the morning will help the rest of the day to go more smoothly.  Reading List: The Organization of the Retina and Visual System: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK27326/  Transition from Dim Light to Sunlight in the Morning Raises Cortisol Immediately: https://doi.org/10.1210/jcem.86.1.7102 Evening Short-Term Exposure to Conventional Light Suppresses Melatonin and Increases Alertness Perception: 10.3390/ijms14022573  Awakening effects of blue-enriched morning light exposure on university students’ physiological and subjective responses: https://rdcu.be/fsqlH  These clock cells are most sensitive to short-wavelength blue light and drive non-image-forming responses https://rdcu.be/fsqnI Eye Health from a Chinese Medicine Standpoint: https://www.herbalreality.com/condition/eye-health-chinese-medicine-perspective/ ------  Want more of The Ancient Health Podcast? • Heart Flutters But a Perfect EKG? It Might Be Your Kidneys! (Repost) 03.07.2026 32min
Do you have heart flutters, palpitations, or chest tightness , but your EKG comes back "perfect" and your stress test says you're fine? Dr. Chris Motley breaks down a connection most doctors never check: the direct link between your kidneys, bladder, and urinary tract system and the health of your heart. In this episode, Dr. Motley explains how hidden kidney infections, bladder infections, UTIs, and even kidney stones can create heart palpitations, brain fog, tingling in the hands and feet, and shortness of breath — all while standard urine tests come back completely normal. He breaks down why most UTI testing only screens for E. coli and misses dozens of other bacteria, fungi, and parasites that can colonize your urinary tract.
