  • If You Can Read This, You're Too Close | Veggietales Talk - Ep. 22 05.04.2026 1t 31min
Veggietales is the best Christian kids show and (dare I say it?) one of the best KIDS shows, point blank period. In this very special episode of 4G1G, allow us to explain why.
  • The Girl On Fire and the Genre She LIT UP | The Hunger Games - Ep. 21 03.04.2026 1t 24min
Part ll, baby! In this half, we take a more critical look at The Hunger Games trilogy. We talk about how it’s perspective is written, the relentless survival tension, and the realistic portrayal of trauma. We also discuss mixed feelings in other areas, like love-triangle fatigue, Mockingjay’s tonal whiplash, and controversial plot choices that nevertheless push things forward. Overall, we discuss this fantastic series’ impact, what still works, where the few cracks show (kinda, it’s complicated), and how it’s managed to hold up after all these years. #4g1g #thehungergames #ya #podcast #dystopia
  • The Girl On Fire and the Genre She LIT UP | The Hunger Games - Ep. 20 28.03.2026 1t 8min
Part I:  Before the YA dystopia became a staple in the factory of Hollywood, before we had so many versions of the same genre, there was The Hunger Games. In today’s episode, we talk about how Suzanne Collins’ iconic series laid the foundation of the “hardcore” YA dystopia trope - missing survival overt oppression, action, and rebellion in a way that actually trusted its audience.  We dig into the Katniss Effect, on what made her such a defining YA heroine, how media, spectacle, and politics shape the world of Panem, and how this was such a staple in fiction and writing as a whole in the 2010s.  If you remember when this series dominated pop culture, or you’re simply curious why it did, you’re in the right place.

  • When A Comfort Anime Finds YOU | Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End - Ep. 18 19.02.2026 47min
Most fantasy stories end with the Demon King/God/Emperor defeated, the party celebrates, Princess Leia gives them big chains, everyone claps, and it’s over. Well…Frieren starts after that. We’re diving into Season 1 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End: a long journey that uses quiet moments, deadpan humor, and devastating memory-flashes to explore grief, friendship, and what it means to realize too late how much the small moments truly mattered, and why we should appreciate them in the now.  We talk about why Frieren’s emotional arc works so well, how Fern is the only adult in the room, and how this show turns “side quests” into the whole show. If you want smart character writing, a fantasy world that feels lived-in, super funny humor, and a story that can make you tear up over a simple habit someone used to do… you’re in the right place. Timestamps🕰 00:00 - Intro 02:10 - What is this show, tho? 04:08 - Part 1: The Pacing 08:30 - Time gaps for Frieren vs. time gaps for humans are vastly different. 11:50 - FRIMMEL. Or, uh- Himren? …Frimmel’s better. 13:40 - It feels like a peaceful, fantasy storybook, especially the end credits (stop-motion Frieren makes our hearts violently contract) 15:50 - Part 2: Mindset of an immortal 17:40 - Be a man and run through that flower field! 18:29 - A gang of stuff can happen in montages (Gandalf is Exhibit A…) 23:02 - There’s war all the time everywhere in Attack On Titan 23:50 - Appreciating humans is important, actually 28:27 - Why Frieren falls for the mimic chests over and over and over again 31:45 - Frieren’s relationships 34:04 - Koby, Koby, Koby, Koby, Koby 34:20 - Eisen 35:20 - The New Party versus The Old Party 37:55 - This world is super old. • Wait… The Apothecary Diaries Is Actually THIS Good?? [pt. 2] - Ep. 17 05.02.2026 1t 17min
Welcome back to the Royal Palace, where we wrap up our discussion of The Apothecary Diaries. In this episode, we dig into the character of Jinshi, the dangerously delicate life inside the palace, and the tangled politics and mysteries Maomao finds herself navigating. We break down the dense web of characters that bring this world to life, such as Gaoshun, Lakan, the Verdigris House, and more~ We close things out by sharing our favorite mysteries from the season and why they manage to hold our attention across multiple episodes. If you’re here for smart writing, layered characters, and intrigue that doesn’t insult your intelligence (unlike Maomao)… let’s continue. #4g1g #apothecarydiaries #anime #mystery #podcast
  • Wait… The Apothecary Diaries Is Actually THIS Good?? [pt. 1] - Ep. 16 19.01.2026 1t 1min
Part I:  So, when we first watched The Apothecary Diaries, we thought it would simply be a cozy comfort watch with pretty animation and a charming protagonist. What we did not expect was a full-on mystery steeped in ancient tech, palace intrigue, and lots of poison. We dig into how Apothecary Diaries blends into genres without losing momentum, managing to juggle intense political mystery and humor in a way that keeps each episode highly engaging. If you want to hear our takes before the second season comes out, you’re in the right place. #4G1G #apothecarydiaries #anime #podcast #mystery
  • MERRY FREAKIN' CHRISTMAS!! | The Most Magical Time DONE RIGHT [pt. 2] - Ep. 15 25.12.2025 1t 33min
Like a surprise plate of cookies left on your doorstep, we have returned! In this half, we break down what actually makes a Christmas movie work—from hopeful themes to that warm, glowing atmosphere the greats nail every single time. Then, we talk about why some films miss the mark entirely (looking at you, manufactured romance and contrived “emotional payoffs”). And because we don’t just critique from the sidelines, we each try crafting our own Christmas movie on the spot: core conflict, characters, setting, the whole festive package. We close out by exploring where Hollywood often misrepresents the Christmas story, which old-school traditions we wish would come back, and what people might be missing about the season right now. Grab your cocoa, settle in, and let’s finish unwrapping this conversation. • MERRY FREAKIN' CHRISTMAS | The Most Magical Time DONE RIGHT [pt. 1] - Ep. 14 18.12.2025 1t 13min
’Tis the season to be cRaFtY, we are officially in our Christmas bag~. In today’s episode, we talk about what creates that unmistakable Christmas feeling - how the birth of Christ sits at the heart of it, how family and togetherness shaped the traditions we love, and yes… whether Santa counts (jury’s still out). We also share our personal favorite holiday movies, from the timeless classics to the ones that just make us feel ten again. If you’re already humming carols by accident, you’re in the right place. If you’re not in the mood yet, don’t worry - we’ve got five mics, a lot of nostalgia, and at least one hot take strong enough to light a tree.#4g1g #christmas #holidaymovies #faith #podcast
  • You’re Over 16½ ...? Stop, Drop, and READ MONSTER [pt. 2] - Ep. 13 11.12.2025 1t 20min
Like a certain terrifying blond child, we have returned! In today’s episode, we wrap up our dive into Naoki Urasawa’s Monster - a series so layered we probably could’ve made a Part III, but we respect you (and our sanity). We get into the electric dynamic between Dr. Tenma and Johan, break down our favorite arcs and scenes, and talk about why this manga/anime refuses to fade from the cultural bloodstream. If you survived Part I, congratulations! You have a lifespan longer than half the cast.  If you’ve finished Monster yourself, welcome back to therapy; if you haven’t… what are you doing? Go read it, watch it, SOMETHING, and then get back over here. Lessgo (again).
  • If You’re Over 16¾, You NEED To Read Monster [pt. 1] - Ep. 12 04.12.2025 1t 2min
As far as mangas go, it’s hard to get better than this. In today’s episode, we discuss one of the absolute GOATs in anime and manga: Naoki Urasawa’s Monster! We break down his awesome premise (somehow, Frankenstein meets The Fugitive), explore the complex themes he delves into, and - shockingly - talk about characters other than Johan for longer than we expected.  If you like anime/manga, are over 16 ¾, and haven't seen Monster, go read this manga, watch the anime; we don’t care, just freakin’ do it. Just be sure to come back and hear our takes. If you’ve already survived one or both (deep breaths, you’re safe now), then… Lessgo!!
  • We ✨Wish✨ for a Better Story | Done Right [pt. 2] - Ep. 11 29.11.2025 1t 9min
A hundred years of dreams… And this is what we get? Time for a rewrite. In late 2023, Disney released Wish, meant to celebrate 100 years of dreams come true… but it mostly left everyone wishing for a better story. Between a bland plot, cliche characters, and a heap of wasted potential, the film sparked waves of disappointment. This was only increased when the original concept for the movie was revealed: the wish-granting Star as a person, a villainous couple, and even a classic love story were just a few of the possibilities that were lost, something the Internet took by storm with amazing fanart, animations, and rewrites of the entire story. Welp, we saw this and thought we’d jump on the bandwagon, adding our own spin on things. As we reimagine characters, adjust and develop themes, and even add in classic Disney elements, we create something entirely new, and have fun while we do it.

  • My Hero Academia Is A Messy Masterpiece And Here’s Why [pt. 3] - Ep. 9 06.11.2025 45min
WE ARE HERE with the third and final installment of our My Hero Academia deep dive (until season 8, that is…)! Come fly with us as we lay down our final thoughts on the show, how the female characters were handled, and just what is up with our relationship with this show (??). If you’re here to recall, reject, or simply reminisce about the show, comment below and share your own thoughts on this story as more season 8 episodes continue to be released.
  • My Hero Academia Is A Messy Masterpiece And Here’s Why [pt. 2] - Ep. 8 31.10.2025 51min
WE ARE BACK with part two of our deep dive into My Hero Academia. Join us as we discuss seasons 1-7 and get into our complaints (Bakugo’s character arc), our compliments (the League of Villains😱🔥), and our confusion in how we truly feel about this anime.  If you’re in the same boat as us (or is it a dinghy…? Please let us know we’re not alone in our confusion TT-TT), or separate ends of the conundrum, definitely join us in the discussion! We hope you enjoy this section of our 3-parter as much as we did, and hope you’ll join us for the final part coming next week!
  • My Hero Academia Is A Messy Masterpiece And Here’s Why [pt. 1] - Ep. 7 23.10.2025 1t 21min
💥 We’re gonna go beyond… and maybe lose our sanity along the way👊🏾. In this episode, we tackle the My Hero Academia anime - from its explosive (and superior) beginning to the 8-season saga that has us cheering (loudly, externally), crying (internally), and occasionally wanting to choke on a spoon (literally).  We recorded this way before season 8 came out, so this only covers seasons 1-7, BUT we’ll be giving season 8 its very own episode as soon as we can! Warning: In this podcast, you will encounter groaning, intense apprehension, and - as usual - very loud laughter.

From the enemies to friends to enemies again, rinse and repeat dynamic between Light and L, to moral quandaries, iconic/slightly cringey scenes, and MISA MISAAAAAAAAAA- Also, we want everyone to stay safe (we’re not like Light, thank God), so please don’t post your name or photo. It was a joke. Don’t do it.

  • How To Write An Epic Christian Story: Left Behind, Done Right [pt. 1] - Ep. 4 17.09.2025 1t 16min
Matthew 24: 40-41 “Two men will be working in the field; one will be taken, the other left. Two women will be grinding flour at the mill; one will be taken, the other left.” In this episode, the famous 12-volume story centered around The End Times gets reimagined! We take a look at one of our favorite series during childhood, Left Behind, with older, wiser eyes, discussing how characters could have been centered, along with exploring themes and creating a congruent story for characters trying to survive the apocalypse before Earth goes kablooey. We highly appreciate this series, but since we must chastise those we love, we’re making this story into a bit of a fixer-upper.   Shownotes: “Portals” - Alan Silvestri - Avengers: Endgame Netflix’s “The Last Airbender” series “Mafia Nanny” - WEBTOONS “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” “Seinfeld” “Chosen” “Young Sheldon” “Breaking Bad” “Children of Men” “2003 Fullmetal Alchemist” “Monster” “The Boys” “Neon Genesis Evangelion” “Better Call Saul” “Chainsaw Man” “Necronomicon” - H.P.
