Cosmological Citizenship: Sovereignty Within the Web of Life (Series Finale, Ep. 10) 10.09.2026 12minSovereignty was never the destination — it's the ground you need under your feet before real relationship, real love, and real service become possible. In this series finale, we close the loop on everything the sovereignty series has built: why only a sovereign self can truly surrender, what you owe the world once you're fully yourself, and what animism offers as a political alternative to extraction — relational governance instead of domination. This episode is for animists, pagans, folk practitioners, and anyone on an earth-based spiritual path who has done the inner work of sovereignty and is asking, "okay — now what?" We talk about the regenerative self as seasonal and cyclical, not fixed, and close with a vision of what a community of sovereign selves could actually build together.Pan Society -
You Are Not Your Lineage — But It's In You | Ancestor Veneration & Sovereignty (Ep. 9) 03.09.2026 14minYour sovereignty didn't start with you — it was inherited, along with the wounds, gifts, and silences of everyone who came before you. In Episode 9, we explore ancestor veneration as a real animist practice, not just a metaphor: what it means to know whose bones you stand on, how to heal ancestral patterns without losing yourself, and the difference between honoring your ancestors and being controlled by them.We also talk about chosen ancestors — lineages of thought, craft, resistance, and spirit — for anyone whose blood line is broken, unknown, or not somewhere they want to draw strength from. Plus, why ancestral repair work makes you more yourself, not less, and this episode's Field Practice: researching one ancestor, blood or chosen, who embodied sovereignty. This episode is part of our ongoing Sovereignty series for animists, pagans, and earth-based spiritual practitioners.🌿 What we cover:- Why sovereignty is inherited, not built from scratch- Ancestor veneration and shrine-building as a sovereignty practice- Healing ancestral trauma and patterns in the body and spirit- Honoring ancestors vs. being controlled by them- Choosing your chosen ancestors when blood lineage isn't available- Why ancestral repair expands the self instead of weighing it down- Field Practice: research one sovereign ancestor and start a shrine#AncestorVeneration #AncestralHealing #Animism #EarthBasedSpiritualityAbout Pan Society:Pan Society explores animist spirituality and the many paths people take to reconnect with the sacred. Boundaries Are Sacred Territory — A Story on Animism, the Body, and Self-Protection | Ep #8 27.08.2026 15minYou say yes when your whole body is screaming no. You apologize for taking up space you were never given in the first place. Someone touches you, interrupts you, "just needs five minutes" of you — again — and you let it happen, and you smile, and later you can't figure out why you feel so hollowed out. You've been told this is just what being a good person costs. It isn't. It's a boundary being walked through like it was never there at all — and it's happening so often, in ways so small and so normal, that you've stopped even clocking it as a violation. There's an old teaching about a gate that nobody's allowed to walk straight through the middle of. Not because someone's standing guard — because the ground itself asks for a pause first. What would it mean to treat your own life that way? Your silence. Your time. Your body. Your "no." What if the exhaustion you keep calling burnout is actually grief, for a self you were never allowed to close a door on?This episode is the one where we name what's actually been happening — and where we start putting the gate back up because sovereignty depends upon healthy boundaries. -
The Cunning Farmer: Talking to Land Spirits, Reading the Moon, and Farming as Magic | Todd Elliott 20.08.2026 48minTodd Elliott — Kentucky farmer, Reiki master, Druid, and author of The Cunning Farmer — joins us to talk about what happens when you stop separating farm work from spirit work.We cover how he consults the land spirits and ancestors on his own farm, how he uses Reiki to send healing into land that's been traumatized by violence and destruction, what he learned from a pilgrimage to the astronomically-aligned earthworks of the Adena and Hopewell cultures in southern Ohio, and how he actually times planting (and magic) to the moon's movement through the zodiac signs. We also dig into harder questions: reconciling ancestral Christianity with pagan and animist practice, telling authentic tradition apart from "fakelore," working ethically with entheogenic and baneful plants, and whether every forest deserves to be treated as a sacred grove. If you believe the land is alive and listening, this conversation is for you.📖 Get the book: The Cunning Farmer (Inner Traditions) — https://www.innertraditions.com/the-cunning-farmer🌐 More from Todd: thecunningfarmer.com | thecunningfarmer.substack.com📷 Instagram/Facebook: @TheCunningFarmerPan Society -
The Inner Council — Making Hard Decisions the Animist Way Ep #7 20.08.2026 10minIn this episode, we explore discernment — the ancient art of self-governing when there's no outside authority to tell you what's right. We look at how animist councils made decisions together, and how you can build that same council inside yourself: your body, your inner voices, and time itself. Learn to tell fear apart from wisdom, desire apart from calling, and pressure apart from a true pull. Includes a three-stage discernment practice you can use on a real decision today.🌿 Part of our Sovereignty series. Be sure to listen to the others in this series. -
16 Modern Habits That Block Your Experience of Animism (Animism Explained) 13.08.2026 9minEver feel like you used to sense something alive in nature, but modern life numbed it? This episode breaks down 16 everyday habits that block a lived, reciprocal relationship with the more-than-human world — and what animism actually asks of us in return. We're not just talking about "believing trees have spirits." Animism is a two-way relationship: giving as well as taking, noticing as well as being noticed, owing as well as receiving. This episode maps exactly where modern Western life severs that exchange — from clock time to grocery store meat to consumer-rights thinking — and opens the door back into relationship.🌲 Topics covered:What animism actually means (it's not what you learned in school)Why reciprocity is the missing piece most nature-spirituality content skips16 specific modern habits that block lived animist experiencePractical entry points back into relationship with land, plants, animals, and placeIf you're into earth-based spirituality, animism, land-based practice, reciprocity with nature, or just want to understand why modern life feels so disenchanted — this one's for you.Learn more here:https://pansociety.net -
Skills, Craft & Material Sovereignty | Animism Ep. 5 06.08.2026 9minWhat if self-sufficiency isn't about needing no one — but about having something real to offer the land? In Episode 5, we explore animist self-sufficiency as reciprocal competence: the skills, craft, and material fluency that let you enter right relationship with the world around you.We dig into the difference between subsistence (dependence on systems) and sovereignty (fluency with materials), why crafting with your hands is a form of spiritual practice, and how Tyson Yunkaporta's Sand Talk reframes hands-on, pattern-based thinking as a way to solve problems holistically — not just abstractly.Topics covered: embodied knowledge, the gift economy, ancestral skills (fermentation, foraging, fire-making, fiber work, building), and why craft is inheritance, not nostalgia.🌱 Field Practice: Learn one hands-on skill this week that turns raw material into something tangible.Join us https://pansociety.netPhotos, music, videos by Pixabay -
The Sovereignty of Perception: Learning to See for Yourself Ep.#4 30.07.2026 20minBefore you can think for yourself, you first have to learn to see for yourself. In Episode 4 of Independent Thought, we look at something simple but powerful: the idea that you can meet reality directly, before it gets filtered through other people's beliefs, other people's wants, and all the noise around you. We'll talk about animist traditions that train you to pay attention before they ask you to believe anything. We'll look at René Girard's idea of "mimetic desire" — the theory that a lot of what we want isn't really ours, we just copied it from someone else. And we'll talk about oracles and divination, not as fortune-telling, but as simple tools people have used for thousands of years to check in with themselves.Along the way, we'll ask some good questions: What do you actually trust? What counts as real evidence to you? And what's the real difference between a community and a herd? We'll end with something simple you can try today: spend one hour with no content at all, and just notice what thoughts show up.In this episode:Why animism trains you to pay attention before it asks you to believe anythingWhat "direct perception" means, and why we rarely experience itRené Girard's mimetic desire, and how animism offers a way out of itHow to build your own way of deciding what's trueWhy silence and solitude help you think more clearlyCommunity vs. herd — and why the difference mattersOracles and divination as tools for checking in with yourselfA simple practice: one hour with no content -
The Self Is a Council: Huna, Mongolian, Lakota & West African Soul Wisdom Explained 23.07.2026 13minEver feel like there's more than one voice inside you? In this episode, we explore how animist traditions around the world — from Hawaiian Huna to Mongolian shamanism to Lakota soul teachings to West African concepts of the double — understood the self as a council, not a single "I." Learn the difference between being ruled by your inner voices and learning to govern them, how dreams and symptoms are council members trying to speak, and how this ancient idea shows up today in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy and the trauma model of structural dissociation. Plus, a simple journaling practice to help you hear your own inner parliament clearly. If you've ever wondered whether your intuition, your wounds, and your ancestors are all talking to you at once — this one's for you.Join us at Pansociety.net -

The Geography of Sovereignty: Body, Time, Position, Earth Ep.#2 16.07.2026 15minWhere are you, right now — really? In your body, or a step outside it? Living in this moment, or replaying the past and rehearsing the future? This episode maps three layers of "where am I": embodiment, time, and relational position — above, below, behind, in front, beside, with — then zooms out to ask the same questions of our place among rivers, trees, and animals. You Don't Conquer a Goddess: The Spirit of Chomolungma 16.07.2026 23minWhat happens when you ask permission from a mountain — and then ignore the answer? In 1996, eight people died on Everest in a single storm. The movie captures the chaos, the courage, and the heartbreak. But it misses the deeper story: the mountain herself. In this episode, we sit with Chomolungma — the Goddess Mother of the World — and ask what she saw that day. We talk about the Puja ceremony the Sherpas held before the climb, what it actually meant, and what happened when the Western climbers nodded politely and then went right back to their spreadsheets. We talk about the trash. The bodies left behind. The Sherpas who were treated like pack animals by people who would later write bestselling books. And the quiet, devastating truth at the heart of all of it: the mountain doesn't care about your reasons. She was here before us. She'll be here after. This one's for the animists. The ones who knock before they enter. The ones who know the land is listening.🌿 Topics covered:The Puja ceremony and what "asking permission" actually means in practiceSherpa cosmology and the goddess Miyolangsangma50+ tons of trash on Everest and what that says about usThe human motivations that sent people past their limitsBeck Weathers, Yasuko Namba, and the ethics of leaving someone behindWhy Nature is the only story that was never going to end with ushttps://pansociety.net -
The Ancient Worldview That Makes Evil Nearly Impossible | Animism, Power & the Web of Life 09.07.2026 17minWhat if the antidote to evil has been living in the rivers, roots, and rituals of Earth-based spirituality all along? We explore Evan Longin's theory of what makes widespread harm possible — binary thinking, controlled information, oversimplified answers, and unchecked power — and ask whether animism, one of humanity's oldest worldviews, naturally resists all four. For anyone who talks to trees, grieves the animals they eat, or feels the river has something to say.See us at https://pansociety.net -
You Are Not For Sale — What Sovereignty Really Means 09.07.2026 9minWhat does it mean to truly govern yourself in a world designed to fragment your attention and outsource your choices? In Episode 1 of this series, we explore sovereignty not as power or isolation — but as coherent self-governance in relationship. Through an animist lens, we look at why you can only genuinely connect with the living world (trees, rivers, ancestors, dreams) when you show up as genuinely yourself — and how consumer culture, social media, and algorithmic life quietly erode that self. We introduce the six-part arc of the series (Root → Perceive → Discern → Choose → Defend → Regenerate) and leave you with a simple but powerful field practice to try this week.Want to go deeper? How to Reconnect With Nature When Trauma Has Numbed You | Somatic Healing & Animism Ep. #4 02.07.2026 28minYou believe the world is alive. So why does it feel so far away? In the final episode of From Numb to Known, trauma therapist and lifelong animist [Host Name] offers a practical roadmap for returning to presence — one nervous system at a time. This episode covers the correct sequence for healing dissociation (hint: safety before spirit), somatic grounding as genuine animist relationship, the practice of titration and pendulation, reciprocity as a way to interrupt freeze, finding community when your worldview doesn't fit mainstream culture, and how Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, and Internal Family Systems align with animist frameworks. For anyone who feels cut off from a world they know is alive — this is the practice of coming back. Your Body Never Left: The Animist Path Back From Numbness and Dissociation Pt 3 25.06.2026 31minYou named the ache (Part 1). You understood the trauma underneath it — the freeze, the protector, the structural split (Part 2). Now comes the turn: the bridge back.In Part 3 of From Numb to Known, we reframe disconnection itself. This isn't a story about something broken in you — it's a story about a torn thread in a living web, and torn threads don't carry shame, only the need for mending. In this episode, we explore:→ Why disconnection is relational, not personal — a repair story, not a self-improvement story→ What the land, the seasons, the animals, and the ancestors have been doing this whole time (hint: they never stopped reaching)→ Why the relationship is waiting, not gone — and why the fact that you're listening right now is proof something in you kept the thread→ How trauma lives in the body — and why the body is also the way back→ Sensation as the first language of reconnection, before meaning, before storyThis is for the deeply feeling people — the ones who've felt the glass between themselves and the living world, and who are ready to understand that the bridge across it was never missing. It's been there the whole time.Part 4 is coming soon, where we begin the actual practice: grounding, small presence, reciprocity, and finding your people.#FromNumbToKnown #Animism #SomaticHealing #NervousSystemHealing #TraumaRecovery #EcoSpirituality #NatureConnection #DissociationHealing #AncestralTrauma #Embodiment #PolyvagalTheory #SpiritualAwakening #HealingJourney #EarthBasedSpirituality #FeltSenseWant to go deeper? Cemetery Preservationist Jason Church on Tending the Dead and Honoring the Living 18.06.2026 36minWhat does it mean to listen to a gravestone? Jason Church has spent his life finding out. As Chief of Technical Services at the National Park Service's National Center for Preservation Technology and Training, Jason is one of the country's leading experts in cemetery preservation and monument conservation — but his relationship with these sacred places began long before any credential. It started in fourth grade, in a cemetery in Wilmington, North Carolina, with a caretaker who showed a curious kid things most people never get to see.In this conversation, Jason talks about what cemeteries hold — not just names and dates, but stories, artistry, spiritual presence, and the living pulse of community memory. We explore the craftsmanship of anonymous stone carvers whose finest work sits in forgotten corners of the country, the oral histories that disappear when a marker crumbles, and what it actually felt like to raise his family inside Laurel Grove South Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia — one of the most historically and spiritually significant African American burial grounds in the South. For animists, cemetery preservation isn't maintenance. It's reciprocity. It's relationship. And Jason Church has been living that truth since he was nine years old.Chapters00:00 The Seeds of Curiosity: A Childhood Fascination07:17 Living Among the Dead: Caretaking in a Cemetery11:31 The Art and Science of Preservation16:39 Community and Connection: The People Behind the Graves26:12 Legacy and Storytelling: Keeping Memories Alive#CemeteryPreservation #Animism #AnimistPodcast #SacredLand #CemeteryConservation #HonoringAncestors #GravestoneRestoration #HistoricPreservation #DeathPositive #FolkArt #OralHistory #BurialGrounds #AncestorVeneration #LaurelGroveCemetery #NationalParkService #SpiritInTheGround #CemeteryHistory #SacredSites #GraveyardCulture #TendingTheDead🔔 Subscribe so you never miss an episode👇 Tell us in the comments — what cemetery has stayed with you?Want to go deeper? The Wound That Splits You in Two: Why You Can't Feel the Connection You Know Is Real 15.06.2026 19minYou know the world is alive. You feel it in flashes — in the forest, in a quiet moment, in a flicker of connection that feels like coming home. And then it's gone, and you're back behind the glass, watching your own life from a distance. This isn't a failure of your spirituality. It's not that you're "not doing it right."In Part 2 of this series, we go deep into what trauma actually does to the nervous system — and why the same sensitivity that draws you toward animism, toward feeling the aliveness of the world, is also the thing standing between you and actually landing inside it.We explore:* Why dissociation is a protector, not a flaw* The three layers of wounding: personal, ancestral, and collective* Why hypervigilance often underlies spiritual sensitivity* Structural dissociation — the biology of why you can know connection is real and still not feel it* How to begin honoring the parts of you that learned to protect youThis is for the deeply feeling people. The ones who light the candles, sit with the trees, do the practice — and still feel that pane of glass. You are not alone in this, and you are not failing.Part 3 is coming soon, where we start talking about what healing this actually looks like.If this resonated, I'd love to hear which part hit hardest — drop it in the comments below.Want to go deeper? What The Pilgrimage Gets Right About Religion That Most Films Are Too Afraid to Say 11.06.2026 41minMost films about religion play it safe. They make faith the light that saves everyone, or the darkness that corrupts everything. The Pilgrimage (2017) does something braver — and rarer.Through six characters, this quiet Irish film maps the full spectrum of what religion actually does to human beings. Raymond sees any rock as a potential relic and uses the Crusades as a machine for wealth and absolution. Geraldus is a true believer who turned in his own father as a heretic — not for power, but because the institution has replaced his conscience entirely. Brother Ciarán shares Geraldus's faith exactly, and yet dies forgiving his torturer with his last breath. The mute was set adrift without oars for something terrible he did, found by Diarmuid, and has been choosing smallness as penance ever since. And Diarmuid himself — young, quiet, the only one whose faith has never been used for anything — is the only one pure enough to touch the relic. And the only one who understands what must be done with it in the end. This video is a deep-dive psychological and spiritual reading of The Pilgrimage — one of the most honest films about faith ever made, and one almost nobody is talking about.Chapters00:00 The Dual Nature of Faith in Hollywood02:32 Exploring the Characters of 'Pilgrimage'04:51 Raymond: The Pragmatic User of Faith08:32 Geraldus: The True Believer's Tragedy12:06 Brother Ciaran: Faith in Action16:07 The Mute: Guilt and Redemption20:07 Jermud: Pure Spirituality24:10 The Pagans: The Old Sacred27:11 The Power Dynamics of Religion30:04 The Universal Need for Meaning32:41 The Final Sacrifice and Its Implications37:10 The Honest Exploration of Faith#Pilgrimage #spiritualityvsreligion#FilmAnalysis #ReligionAndFilm#FaithVsReligion #MovieExplainedWant to go deeper?
