For DXCC this counts as Scotland and for IOTA it counts for EU-012.KH8WW, American Samoa - The KH8WW DXpedition is QRV from Aunu`u Island, the same location as K8K, until September 24th with operators YL2GM, Yuris and EA5EL, Eugene. Antennas will include a Spiderbeam, verticals for 160/80M and 40M, a DX Commander, and an inverted vee for 60M, covering bands from 160-10 meters on CW, SSB, FT8, and RTTY.KH0 – Mariana Islands - JA6CNL, Tony, is QRV as KH0N from Saipan until September 15. He’ll use FT8, FT4, and FT2 with a vertical antenna and IC7300 radio.There is a second DXpedition to Franz Jozef Land - The RI1FJZ expedition team has departed Murmansk aboard the yacht “Apostle Andrew” and is now sailing toward Franz Josef Land as part of the continuing “Legends of the Arctic” project. The vessel has already left Murmansk, with reports of early aurora activity and radio operation from the ship and RW6MD/MM has been reported QRV on 21 MHz FT8.Yesterday they worked out an internet issue on FJL, so they will be ableto upload logs from there daily, to Club Log and LoTW, prioritizing donors, sponsors and OQRS requests. S7 – Seychelles - S79/DL2SBY, Kasimir, is QRV from Mahe, until September 21.He is using CW, SSB and FT8 MSHV on HF with verticals and an inverted V, plus a 5-element Yagi on 6. QSL direct to his home QTH or use LoTW and Club Log OQRS.A9 – Bahrain - G3VCQ, Colin, plans to be active as A9/G3VCQ from the outskirts of Bahrain, between September 19 and 26. Operation will be holiday- style, single operator, while travelling with his XYL and family. Bands planned include 160m and 6m, depending on time of day, night-time conditions, and propagation. Colin expects 160m to be mainly FT or CW only. He hopes to be QRV using CW, SSB, FT8, FT4, and FT2. 5W – Samoa - All systems are go for a 5W0AF operation with two ops leaving Poland September 16. A 2-1/2 day buffer in New Zealand is part of the plan, toconfirm gear has made it through. On-air from Samoa is set for September21, on the bands until October 12. It is SSB only.KH0 – Mariana Islands - JR1FKR, Chusuke, will operate as KH0/JR1FKR from Saipan Island in the Northern Mariana Islands from September 25–28. Antennas will include a Spiderbeam, verticals for 160/80M and 40M, a DX Commander, and an inverted vee for 60M, covering bands from 160-10 meters on CW, SSB, FT8, and RTTY. KH0 – Mariana Islands - JA6CNL, Tony, will operate as KH0N from Saipan from September 10–15. He’ll use FT8, FT4, and FT2 with a vertical antenna and IC7300 radio.HK0/A – San Andres and Providencia - PY8WW, Renato, will operate as HK0/PY8WW from San Andres Island from September 3–7. This is a holiday operation, not a full-time DXpedition, so activity will happen only during Renato’s free time with no fixed schedule. He plans to operate on 6m through 20m using SSB, CW, and digital modes. The station will be a lightweight portable setup with a small vertical antenna near the beach, taking advantage of the Caribbean Sea location for propagation. Logs will be uploaded to LoTW daily, when possible, with activity also available through Club Log Live Stream. RI1FJ – Franz Jozef Land - Franz Josef Land DXpedition leader R7AL, Vasily, reports that the expedition schedule has changed, and the team expects to stay active for about another week. Conditions are difficult due to very strong winds and distorted signals, especially on the 12-meter band where many stations are operating at similar signal strengths. The team has nine amplifiers available, ranging from 500 watts to 2 kW, but power-supply limits mean they cannot run them continuously or at every operating position.9M – West & East Malaysia - Special callsigns will be on for Malaysia Day, September 16. But the calls may be on the air anytime between August 22 and September 30.Z3 – North Macedonia - Z335MK will be QRV until September 15 to celebrate the first 35 years of the Republic of North Macedonia. Club members of the Z37RSM group will run this one.A9 – Bahrain - G3VCQ, Colin, plans to be active as A9/G3VCQ from the outskirts of Bahrain Croatia, between September 19 and 26.   RI1FJ – Franz Jozef Land - The RI1FJL DXpedition team in Franz Josef Land reports a very weak internet connection, causing log uploads to be slow, fragmented, and unreliable on the first attempt. The team has settled into a work routine but is tired. Propagation has been unstable, with strong signals often fading quickly. Weather has been mostly favorable, though windy, with temperatures around freezing. All of the team are doing well and they will continue to operate for another 8-9 days. 5W – Samoa - SP5AEQ, Jacek, will begin operating as 5W0AF on September 21 from a location near Apia. The operation will cover the 10–40 meter bands using SSB only, with a possible attempt on 80 meters during the final days of his three-week stay. QSL requests should be sent via SP7DQR, and logs will be available online with uploads planned at least once per day. OQRS will also be available, with bureau and LoTW free; LoTW uploads are expected a few weeks after the trip concludes. C5 – The Gambia - C5R, Lui, says he is starting to pack his bags “slowly, slowly,” for Africa. He leaves Milan, Italy for Banjul, The Gambia, via Casablanca, Morocco, arriving in Banjul October 1, for a stay until November 4. He says F5RAV and M0NPT will join him for the CQWW SSB weekend and they plan all bands CW, SSB, FT4, FT8 and satellite, during their days there. They will also be busy doing some humanitarian work leftover from Lui’s last visit, at the Wilcos School.S9 - Sao Tome and Principe- S9R, an expedition, is October 17-31, from Tamarindos. Planned is HF, various modes. The antennas are a spiderbeam, hexbeam, 40M vertical, 80-10 EFHW and 6M 5-element Yagi. Digital modes will be FT8 MSHV, multi-slot. The modes are CW, SSB, RTTY and FT8, 160-6M including 60. They will also get on the QO-100 satellite. Operation will be “split at all times.” 6W – Senegal - 6W/I2YSB and 6W/IK2HKT, with operators IV3FSG, I2PJA, IK2AQZ, I2YSB, I1FQH, IK2HKT, I1HJT and IK2CKR will be in October-November with five stations. The antennas that they plan to use are a 6M 5-element yagi, six-band hexbeams, a 30M loop, and verticals for 160, 80, 40, 60 and 30, plus a DHDL receive antenna. From Mid-October to early November: JD1BQP, Ogasawara - JD1BQP by JP1IHD, Koutarou Watanabe, will be on Chichijim October 17-November 2. He will use an end-fed half-wave wire antenna that covers 160-10M, a six-band hexbeam for 20-6M, plus a seven-element Yagi for 6M. CE0Z - Juan Fernandez Islands - CE3VTZ and XQ7IR, Moises and Felipe, are going there for 10 days or so in October. They plan 160-10M FT8, CW and SSB. It will be Alexander Selkirk Island, IOTA SA-101. They will be running on generators. VK9/X – Christmas Island - VK9XY will be a November 16–December 4, 2026 DXpedition to Christmas Island that gives young amateur radio operators real-world leadership and operating experience. Led by N4ML, Max Freedman, eight young hams from the United States, Lithuania, Japan, and Malawi will plan, build, and operate the expedition themselves, with veteran DXpeditioners W6IZT, Gregg, and W0GJ, Glenn, serving only as advisors. In partnership with YOTA and supported by a Northern California DX Foundation equipment grant, VK9XY will also allow 30–40 additional young operators worldwide to gain remote DXpedition experience through NexGenRiB2 stations. Donations help cover every team member’s travel and operating expenses so cost does not keep talented young operators from participating, and donors receive a personalized Certificate of Appreciation at vk9xy2026.com. If you would like a free 2-week trial of the DailyDX, your only source of real-time DX information, just drop me a note at [email protected] Earthquake in Colombia - On August 10, 2026, at 07:34 AM (12:34Z), a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia near San José del Palmar in Chocó, causing damage in Cali, Pereira, Quibdó, Manizales, and surrounding areas. CO2JC, Carlos Alberto Santamaría González, IARU Region 2 Emergency Coordinator, reported that the Colombian Amateur Radio League (LCR) and affiliated operators were working with the Colombian Red Cross to support damage assessment and emergency communications in affected areas including the Coffee Axis, the Pacific coast, Pereira, Dos Quebradas, Manizales, Medellín, and Cali. Amateur radio operators are asked to keep clear the emergency frequencies 3.985, 7.060, 7.240, 7.275, 14.300, 18.160, 21.360, and 146.520 MHz simplex for possible relief traffic. R1FJ – Franz Jozef Land - R7AL, Vasily, and his team should be QRV now until about August 30. TU – Ivory Coast - F5HPE, Fredy, is QRV from the Ivory Coast, where he has the TU5MM callsign. He will be joining TU5JZ, Mathruin. Fredy expects to be there until August 22nd , operating from the Motobé Radio Club on 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10M SSB and FT8. OJ0 - Märket Reef - OH6BG says a DXpedition should be QRV about now until August 22, with OJ0JR, Henri; and OJ0YL, Anne. He points out that the reef is the most exposed location in the Baltic Sea, “more rock than island, more sea than shelter.” To be dealt with before the first QSO is made is the weather, landing conditions, antennas, power and constant wind and waves, he says. They plan 80-10 CW, SSB and FT8. 3B8 – Mauritius & 3B9 – Rodrigues - SQ9UM, Alex, reports that “Everything seems to be arranged so far,” with flights and lodging now confirmed. 3B8/SQ9UM is August 14-17 and 21-27. 3B9/SQ9UM is August 18-20. He plans 40-10 FT8/FT4 and CW and says “SSB if possible.” The rig is an IC-7100, 100 watts, to a multiband dipole or vertical depending on “local conditions.” V7 – Marshall Islands - May 22 we reported that KC8CPK, Mac, is a “flight nurse” on temporary duty on Kwajalein, callsign V7/KC8CPK. Now his Marshall license has come through and he is V73RM. Mac says he is there through the end of August and will try to get on the air in his spare time. Contest Updates   August starts the contest season for me with two contests kicking things off. First is the Ohio QSO Party. I work every minute of this and have had some good rates the past few years. However, I have also been kicked off the air by lightning 3 of the last 4 years so I am hoping for good weather. I finished 7th overall in Ohio last year and #1 in Warren County. I could use your help if you are around the weekend of August 22nd. The contest period runs from 1200 EDT noon in Ohio (1600Z) to Midnight on the 22nd (0400Z Sunday). Secondly is the CQWW RTTY contest. This is the weekend of September 26th and 27th. This contest typically draws over 15,000 participants with over 3,600 logs submitted. If you can operate FT8, you can operate RTTY. Why not give it a try? To help identify those stations that may not be rare, but also not common, I will bring it to your attention by announcing MARATHON ALERT. This will let you know that based on my experience, this activation is one that you will want to make part of your Marathon Chase! Let’s get started.{Marathon Alert} OH0 – Aland Islands - OH0ERF is QRV until August 12, by a group of German hams operating holiday style. They are operating all bands from 160 m through 10 m, using CW, SSB, and FT8, with 6 m added as conditions allow. The equipment includes an IC-7610, two IC-7300 transceivers, and an ACOM 700S amplifier. {Marathon Alert} R1FJ – Franz Jozef Land - R7AL, Vasily, and his team should be QRV around August 15 for 15 days. Five hundred kilograms of gear is already in Murmansk, their departure point, with the ops bringing another 300 kg.{Marathon Alert} E5/S – South Cook Islands - ZL2KE, Steve, is QRV as E51KEE from the South Cook Islands until August 14th, mainly on CW with some SSB, likely focusing on 30 and 40 meters unless propagation improves. Another Steve, ZL4CZ, is QRV as E51CZZ until August 6th on SSB. Neither operator is using FT8 or other digital modes. {Marathon Alert} TU – Ivory Coast - F5HPE, Fredy, is underway to the Ivory Coast, where he has the TU5MM callsign. He will be joining TU5JZ, Mathruin.   Hello and welcome to episode 98 of TheDX Mentor – a discussion with Steve, W0ZB, Violletta, KN2P, and Joe, W8GEX, about the upcoming VP0SG DXpedition to South Georgia. December 2025 - Amateur Radio DXpeditions (ARD) (⁠https://www.ardxpeditions.com/⁠ ) is pleased to announce a major milestone in the preparation of the VP0SG South Georgia 2027 DXpedition. We have successfully signed the vessel contract and first deposit is being paid, officially securing our expedition vessel: the MV MEREDIAN, operated by 60° South Expeditions.  The MV MEREDIAN is a robust, ice-strengthened expedition vessel capable of safely supporting land-based operations in the challenging sub-Antarctic environment. He plans to be active mainly on 6 meters, with some HF operation on 40, 20, 15, and 10 meters using FT8. Antennas will include a 6-element Yagi for 50 MHz and a random wire or delta loop for HF. A possible second trip may take place in August, but dates are not yet confirmed. QSL confirmations will be available only via LoTW and Club Log, free of charge; no paper QSL cards will be issued. Logs are expected to be uploaded daily.{Marathon Alert} CE0Y – Easter Island - CE3YMR, Manu reports the 3G0YM DXpedition from Rapa Nui is continuing as planned despite heavy rain, strong winds, and minor antenna damage that was quickly repaired. They describe the island as an extraordinary destination, highlighting its landscapes, cultural heritage, moai statues, and warm hospitality. While 6-meter propagation has been very limited so far, he continues monitoring the band and working hard to give as many operators as possible a chance to make contact. I’m Bill, AJ8B.The following DX information comes from Bernie, W3UR, editor of the DailyDX, the WeeklyDX, and the How’s DXcolumn in QST. Manu, CE3YMR, will be active from Rapa Nui (Easter Island) under the callsign 3G0YM. The focus will be on the 6-, 30-, and 40-meter bands, with possible activity on 10, 20, and 60 meters depending on propagation. Operations will use FT8 and SSB modes. Although this takes place during a family vacation, the goal is to maximize contacts for the worldwide DX community during this second activation from the island. 5H – Tanzania - A reminder, the NK8O (Charles) work trip to Chihoni, Tanzania, is planned to start today and continue to July 2. Working around his job assignments, he will be on the air as 5H3DX. He will be using 100 watts to a dipole, vertical, and long wire antenna, CW, FT8 and FT4, 40-6M. He will upload the log to LoTW and Club Log. {Marathon Alert} C2 – Nauru - Phil, C21TS,  confirms he will depart Nauru on July 22. Antennas covering 6 through 80 meters are installed, and6 meters has been performing particularly well so far. Because his local noiselevel is very low, many stations may not realize he can hear them. Anyoneneeding a QSO is encouraged to contacthim through his QRZ email address. ClubLog Livestream was notfunctioning, so he uploads logs to LoTWand Club Log at the end of eachday. His grid square is FK88, but the FTsoftware cannot transmit thefull grid when using a compound callsignsuch as FS/K9EL. If conditions are favorable on 6 meters, operators mayalso hear K9EL on the air at thesame time, as he has remote access to hishome station.
