Black History/Black Futures
A conversation series rooted in Hampton Roads that explores Black history and the art of resistance. Episodes pair historians with working artists to examine how music, theatre and performance have carried acts of resistance in the past and continue to do so today. Award-winning playwright and Old Dominion University theatre professor Brittney S. Harris speaks with Grammy-nominated composer and Juilliard professor Curtis Stewart, moderated by historian Dr. Cassandra Newby-Alexander. Together they trace where their genres intersect, ask how art can produce lasting change, and consider what the future of composing and playwriting looks like for African Americans in the arts.
