Human canines and dietary choices | #Keep’n it simple 19.08.2026 4mntHumans have canines. Does that mean our ancestors were carnivores? Does that mean we are?The teeth debates are all over the internet. e.g. regarding the Paleo diet. Some argue our teeth shape means our ancestors ate ABC and because of that we have to eat XYZ.Some say canines mean we evolved eating meat, others say this our canines are pathetic and some herbivores have canines.Does it matter?Mortality and life expectancy of our ancestors:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3029716/#!po=20.5882Disclaimer: The Information in this video is for informational purposes only and is not intended to be medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, nor to replace medical care. GE diagnosed her with irritable bowel or IBS and gave her a list of foods to avoid (low FODMAP diet)all the experts talk about reintroduction. About how elimination diets are temporary. she probably had dysbiosis, an imbalance of the microbes in her gut dietary changes affect the composition of the microbes in our gut very quickly, within days and it’s possible to reintroduce fiber-rich foods without triggering IBS symptoms fiber feeds the bugs in our gut, and they return the favor by producing short-chain fatty acids, which are very beneficial for our intestinal epithelial cellsby slowly putting those fiber-rich foods back, SCFAs should help heal her intestineDisclaimer: The Information in this video is for informational purposes only and is not intended to be medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, nor to replace medical care. New study: does Low Carb cause Heart Disease? 19.08.2026 11mntA new study looks at low carb diets and heart disease risk and reveals more health-promoting low carb patterns.low carb diets are popular, but there’s a concern about heart disease. people on low-carb often see their weight go down but their cholesterol go upnew study split people according to carbohydrate intake and measured heart disease riskthe group eating the least carbohydrate had the highest riskPeople who don’t like low-carb gloated, and people who love low-carb tried to dismiss the study. who's right? If less carbohydrate = higher risk, is it due to the lower carbohydrate or what I ate instead? when carbohydrates were replaced mainly with animal foods, meat dairy eggs, risk went up 50% but if replaced with plant foods, there was no change. so it may be less about the carbs and more about the replacementbut most people focus on whether cutting carbs is good or bad. "high carb" and "low-carb" says very little. Low carb can be designed to be healthy or unhealthy. Same for high carb. And same for low fat. the key is the type of carbs and types of fat.The carb vs fat wars are a distraction. even a study screaming that its not about the carbs per se only led to people arguing more… about carbsso many people condemn low-carb diets or low fat diets, adding to the confusion. a new report on people on low carb diets with high cholesterol was titled 'keto is not for everyone'. But the problem is not keto or low carb, it’s how it is designedpeople are being told carbs are bad so they run to low carb diets then they’re told low carb diets are bad and they're confused. if someone does better on lower carbohydrate, or fat, I don’t see a problem. keys for health: fruits and vegetables, unprocessed plant foods, easy on the ultraprocessed and the saturated fat and salt. If they want to do that with a bit more carb or less carb, high fat or intermediate fat, fine. The drop in carbohydrates in the study here was modest. Between 58 and 40% of calories from carbs. What happens in more extreme ranges? We don't knowAlso, maybe the people eating more plants and less animal foods also had other healthy behaviors that couldn’t be completely adjusted for. do other studies generally agree? people on low carb diets high in animal protein and fat have higher risk of heart disease and overall death than if the low carb diet is plant-rich and people who start a low carb diet after a heart attack tend to die more, but only if it’s high in animal protein and fat, not if it’s low carb but plant-rich eating a high amount of animal foods rich in saturated fat lowers LDL receptor, risk of heart disease goes upIn controlled trials, people who replaced saturated fat with unsaturated fat (predominant in plant foods) had less heart attacks and were less likely to die of heart disease. a low carb diet that is plant-rich can improve blood markers like cholesterol, etcsome people may want to play it safe but are still interested in low carb. as the new study shows you can do low carb without your risk going up by replacing the carbs with more unsaturated fats, more plant foods. key is to not go overboard on saturated fatThe turkana get 75% of their calories from animal products and yet have an average LDL cholesterol of 60, values we normally only see in vegans or people on cholesterol-lowering meds. The average LDL-c in the US is 130so for most of us going easy on the saturated fat rich foods is the safest bet, whether that’s low carb, high carb or anything in betweenAnother video on keto vs vegan diets, and one on different fats and their effect on healthConnect with me:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DrGilCarvalho/Twitter: https://twitter.com/NutritionMadeS3Animations: Even Topland @toplandmediaReferences:new study: www.ahajournals.org/doi/pdf/10.1161/ATVBAHA.120.314838'keto not for everyone' report: www.lipidjourna -

Top 7 Sources of Plant Protein 19.08.2026 8mntPlant protein is incredibly abundant. Common and cheap plant foods are sources of plentiful plant protein. A look at plant based protein sources and common myths surrounding animal protein vs plant protein, e.g. amino acids and absorption. This is top 7 Plant Protein sources.Plant-based diets are more popular than ever. We're slowly realizing that plant protein is abundant and may bring health benefits. Here’s my top7 plant protein sources: Plant protein Number 7 is Tempeh. tempeh is a triple threat. jam-packed with plant protein, a fermented food AND it can lower your cholesterolprotein is easy to find. recommended dietary allowance (RDA)=64g (man)Plant protein Number 6 is Lentils. 1 cup of lentils has 18g of plant protein, 16g of fiber and a 1/3 of your daily iron.studies show people getting more protein from plants tend to live longer. these studies can’t prove plant protein is responsible. other differences in plant-eaters may account for the benefits. but given the health benefits of a plant-rich diet, it’s plausiblePlant protein Number 5 is edamame. Edamame are fresh, unprocessed soy beans. 1 cup edamame = 19g of plant protein (1/3 the RDA) we don’t need protein powders. vast majority of us can get all the protein we need from food. That’s not to say protein powder is unhealthy, but try not to think of it as a replacement for foodstudies on associations with protein; obsession with protein; plant protein may be a marker for plant-rich dietPlant protein Number 4 - hummus (blended Chickpeas) plant protein lacks amino acids? all plants contain all 9 essential amino acids. proportions vary so eating a variety of plants ensures you get a proper mix. is plant protein less well absorbed? most recent evidence in humans indicates little to no difference between plant protein and animal protein digestibility. since we eat protein in excess, any small differences aren’t meaningful in practice. for most of us, both animal protein and plant protein provide all the amino acids we needPlant protein Number 3-Oatmeal. not as concentrated in protein as legumes, but whole grains are great sources of plant protein. you can easily hit 20 or 25g of protein for breakfastPlant protein Number 2-Chia seeds. Most of us don’t eat cups of chia seeds, that’s ok. 3 tablespoons on oatmeal or in a chia pudding: 5g of plant protein, almost 20% of your calcium and half your iron. plus soluble fiber which lowers cholesterol and feeds your microbiome and omega 3 healthy fats. hemp seeds = more than twice the protein as chia. In longevity studies, even shifting just 3% of calories from animal protein to plant protein was associated with a drop in mortality. So if you don't want to eat 100% plants, even small changes have been linked to benefitsPlant protein Number 1- greens have protein too. Kale, broccoli, asparagus are examples of protein-rich greens. additional video with more info on complete proteinsConnect with me:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DrGilCarvalho/Twitter: https://twitter.com/NutritionMadeS3Animations: Even Topland @toplandmediaReferences:tempeh recipes: https://www.self.com/gallery/tempeh-recipes-that-are-better-than-tofuplant protein benefits:https://www.healthcentral.com/article/cardiovascular-benefit-of-plant-based-proteinhttps://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamainternalmedicine/article-abstract/2768358lentil dahl recipe: https://thewanderlustkitchen.com/indian-red-lentil-dal/edamame recipes:https://www.onegreenplanet.org/vegan-recipe/spicy-garlic-edamame/https://www.kitchentreaty.com/summer-corn-edamame-salad/https://thefeedfeed.com/cookingforpeanuts/mushroom-bowl-with-sesame-garlic-broccolini-and-edamamehow to make hummus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbxnB53IExYplant protein digestibility:https://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/11/11/2661/htmhttps://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/B978 -

I read a lot of your comments, today we’re gona answer your FAQs.A LOT of people brought up bias. I heard a lot about James Cameron’s pea protein business…Like I said, I think game changers makes some important points but I also disagree with several things in there We gotta keep in mind, it’s a movie. Its fine to watch it, but our main source of life and death info, like nutrition, shouldn’t be movies, documentary or not, with industry ties or not. I guess that's why James Cameron is a movie maker and im not. Intermittent Fasting vs Time Restricted Feeding | Health Benefits 19.08.2026 9mntIntermittent Fasting vs Time Restricted Feeding. What are the health benefits of Intermittent Fasting and Time Restricted Feeding? Does meal timing impact our health? An objective look at the research on health benefits of Time Restricted feeding and how it compares with Intermittent Fasting in general.Subscribe for more free nutrition and health tips: https://bit.ly/2toMJ9uConnect with me:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DrGilCarvalho/Twitter: https://twitter.com/NutritionMadeS3Time restricted feeding is a type of intermittent fasting where you eat within a time window. The most popular is 16:8.Last time we looked at the benefits of fasting for 24h or more (alternate day fasting and 5:2 where people fast 2 days a week).Benefits of intermittent fasting include weight loss and many metabolic benefits that come with it. Human trials comparing fasting to other methods of calorie control by and large show a tie. Time restricted feeding has unique benefits not explained just by calories. When people restrict their eating window they tend to eat less overall and lose weight. Are those benefits unique?People eating the same calories at different times show different benefits. Early eaters have several metabolic benefits: lower insulin, blood pressure and less oxidative stress. So this is different from 24h fasting, where the benefits track with calories. How are the benefits of fasting for 24h are all about the calories, but fasting for 16h gives us benefits beyond calories? Fasting may not be the key factor Early time restricted feeding: circadian rhythm determines health benefits of meal times.Summary of intermittent fasting and time restricted feeding: fasting can help lose weight, with the metabolic benefits that come with it. Does it provide benefits beyond the calories? Maybe not the fasting per se, but meal timing seems to. Shifting most of our intake earlier in the day, maybe having a light dinner or an early dinner seems to provide extra benefits beyond the calories, at least for some of us.References:https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26384657/https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29778565/https://www.cambridge.org/core/services/aop-cambridge-core/content/view/9C604826401917A6CAD9CD10B72FEA32/S2048679018000137a.pdf/pilot_feasibility_study_exploring_the_effects_of_a_moderate_timerestricted_feeding_intervention_on_energy_intake_adiposity_and_metabolic_physiology_in_freeliving_human_subjects.pdfhttps://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1550413118302535https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/oby.20460https://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/11/6/1234https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC389363/Stock Images/video: https://pixabay.com/users/doodlartdotcom-10326932https://www.pexels.com/@cottonbrohttps://pixabay.com/users/rkarkowski-289667Disclaimer: The contents of this video are for informational purposes only and are not intended to be medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, nor to replace medical care. Doctor Reviews OMAD (One Meal a Day) 19.08.2026 9mntOMAD (One Meal a Day) has become incredibly popular. What are the pros and cons of OMAD? Is eating one meal a day healthy? Is OMAD hype? An objective look at the science on OMAD.OMAD or one meal a day is a form of intermittent fasting where you eat once a day. OMAD has become extremely popularSo I went over the science on OMAD1. OMAD is simple. You eat once a day, within a 1h window, and you’re doing OMAD. No counting calories, no cutting out entire food groups, no complicated meal plans2. OMAD can help cut calories. you eat less in one meal than if you ate all day. So it naturally cuts calories even if people aren’t focused on them. That can help lose weight with the usual metabolic improvements (glucose, etc)3. OMAD saves time. Less time eating and cookingI don’t have anything for or against OMAD. As long as people are healthy, OMAD or IF, fine with me.concerns:1. OMAD: it can be hard to fast for 23h/day. But that’s personal2. Quality. I raised this in the intermittent fasting video. Fasting focuses on quantity. most people who promote fasting promote healthy foods? but OMAD marketed as cheat code: ‘You can eat or drink pretty much whatever you want on OMAD and as much as you want, as long as you do it during your scheduled mealtime’ Fasting won’t fix a bad diet. the real issue is not the fasting, it’s the feasting. It’s possible to lose weight and remain unhealthy. OMAD may help lose weight. then what? OMAD doesn't teach how to eat healthy so people go back to eating the way that created the problem. weight lost during fasting is regained unless there is a change to how people eat. So I hope everybody who’s fasting is eating super healthy! 3. Look at nutrient requirements on OMAD. run your OMAD meal through cronometer4. if you have conditions like diabetes talk to your doctor before fasting (OMAD or otherwise)So: make sure I eat healthy foods between fasting, make sure I get my daily nutrients and make sure I don’t have a condition that makes it dangerous. Anything else?5. OMAD may worsen glucose metabolism? 3 meals a day vs one. effect could come from eating only one meal or from when the meal was eatentime restricted feeding video: our circadian rhythm can affect our physiology and how we react to food. It’s part of chronobiologyeffect of meal timing: if people eat a snack late at night, they can have higher cholesterol and burn less fat than if they eat the same snack in the morningyour body uses up more energy to process food in the morning than at night, so when you eat earlier you end up with less calories even if you eat the same amount of calories (diet-induced thermogenesis)we get hungrier, feel less satiated and crave more fatty foods at night than in the morning. many studies point to this circadian effect and suggest we front load our calories, a strong breakfast and lunch and lighter meals laterI would do the OMAD meal in the morning or early afternoon (benefit of cutting calories from OMAD + chronobiology benefits of eating earlier in the day)with new diets it’s an educated guess. unanswered questions with OMAD. marketing claims are hypey. here’s the video on intermittent fasting and the one on meal timingConnect with me:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DrGilCarvalho/Twitter: https://twitter.com/NutritionMadeS3Animations: Even Topland @toplandmediaVideo by Polina Tankilevitch, PexelsReferences:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4122067/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2121099/ https://journals.physiology.org/doi/pdf/10.1152/ajpregu.00115.2012https://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/12/5/1506https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/oby.20460https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1550413118302535Disclaimer: The contents of this video are for informational purposes only and are not intended to be medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, -

Why nutrition seems sooo confusing (but really isn’t) 19.08.2026 7mntNutrition is confusing for everyone. Even doctors. A key idea can dispel a LOT of confusion and give you peace of mind when it comes to food.healthy food is confusing. fat is good, fat is bad, carbs make you fat, etc. how can we have peace of mind when it comes to food?contradictions in nutrition: eggs are good, eggs are bad, it’s the fat, no it’s the sugar. smart people on both sides sure that the evidence is on THEIR side? How can that be? scientific evidence comes in 3 bags. lab experiments, population studies and clinical studies. confusing messages in nutrition show one bag while hiding the other 2. VERY confusing looking at all 3 bags = totality of evidence. lab experiments have less weight. human studies are stronger evidence. clinical trials weigh more than population studieslectins: People who eat more beans in clinical trials or population studies have better health outcomes. Also, cooking inactivates lectins. So concentrated raw lectins can be toxic to cells in the lab but the net effect of cooked beans in living breathing humans is overwhelmingly positiveSaturated fat replaced with unhealthy food like processed carbs, risk stays high. in trials replacing it with whole grains, vegetables, nuts and seeds, some oils, the risk comes downGluten: People who eat diets rich in whole grains, in population studies or clinical trials, have lower disease risk. ~2% of people are gluten intolerant and should avoid wheat/barley/rye, can eat the other 15 whole grains. the other 98% of the population can and should include whole grains in their dietary patternPeople who eat olive oil have lower risk of CVD. Populations AND clinical trials. high levels of some fats are problematic, as we just saw, others are not. Nobody needs olive oil but eating some its not going to cause heart disease and if it replaces worse fats it's actually an upgraderefined carbs in excess are a problem, whole carbs are health-promotingConnect with me:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DrGilCarvalho/Twitter: https://twitter.com/NutritionMadeS3Animations: Even Topland @toplandmediaAdditional links:more details on lectins/beans:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bY7of8J2s7gmore details on saturated fat and heart disease risk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GM6ObTo30Mmore details on olive oil and heart disease risk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bN6JJZw3m0ADisclaimer: The contents of this video are for informational purposes only and are not intended to be medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, nor to replace medical care. Keto vs Vegan Health Benefits | A Scientist's View 19.08.2026 8mntKeto vs Vegan: Health Benefits. A recent study compared Keto and Vegan diets and looked at health benefits and weight loss. Let's discuss the health impact of Keto and Vegan and what the new study tells us about nutrition and health. Ofc you can.point is it’s not the carbs that make you fat. the subjects eating vegan were going to town on carbs and yet they lost fat fasterYou CAN lose fat by cutting carbs. you can lose fat by cutting any food, any source of calories. Carbs, fat, even proteinI have nothing personal against keto or veganpeople on the vegan diet were satiated faster and ate less calories, in all likelihood that’s why they lost fat"I gotta lose some weight, I should cut carbs, right?"When’s the last time you heard that?focus less on nutrients, the carbs and the fat and the protein. It’s about food quality Refined carbs make it easier to gain weightComplex carbs make it easier to maintain or lose weightSo if by “cut carbs” u mean cut candy, great movebecause it’s an artificial product not bc it’s “carbs”Otherwise next question is “oatmeal has a lot of carbs, I should cut that too”And we all get confused into general carbophobiamore health benefitsthe vegan diet lowered cholesterol but it raised triglycerides. LC diets like keto tend to do the opposite if they’re animal basedSo again the key is the type of food not if its high fat or low fat. Both can be healthydiet wars on social media, keto vs vegan, are a distractionVegans and low carbers have been fighting for yearshealth-wise: a vegan diet can be great or it can be terrible.Same for keto. it can be healthy, lots of greens, high in fiber, or it can be unhealthy, with processed meats, low fiber and high saturated fatSo the whole vegan vs keto war is social media smokeSo to ask which is better, vegan or keto, it’s nonsensicalhaving an abundance and variety of unprocessed plants, that’s the golden rule. A healthy diet can be vegan or not, low carb or not, keto or not, it can be low fat, high fat, medium fat, many possibilities, pick the one that works for you and ignore the social media noiseDisclaimer: The contents of this video are for informational purposes only and are not intended to be medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, nor to replace medical care.
