  • The Universality of Attraction: From Matter to Nibbāna 12.09.2026 58mnt
In this talk, I examine the principle of attraction (Sampayutta-paccaya) as a universal condition operating across all four ultimates of Abhidhamma philosophy: matter (rūpa), mind (cetasika), consciousness (citta), and liberation (Nibbāna).I start by looking at physical magnetism and the biological patterns behind sensory attraction—from visual symmetry and proportion to why modern devices are designed to capture our attention. From there, I explore psychological attraction: how our attention shifts from unexamined emotional intimacy toward wholesome mental factors (pāramīs), and how we become captivated by ideas.Crucially, I break down 7 distinct reasons why certain ideas attract us (including explanatory breadth, simplicity, novelty, personal flattery, and authority) and offer a central philosophical caution: we must never confuse an idea’s psychological appeal with its truth. Finally, I discuss how genuine spiritual progress means moving beyond sensory and mental compulsion toward the transcendence of attraction itself.---To watch this episode as video on YouTube go 👉 https://youtu.be/EEaN3KcT3Jw---Timestamps:00:00:00 Introduction: Attraction as an Abhidhamma Condition (Sampayutta-Paccaya)00:02:18 Attraction in Matter: Magnetism, the "Affinity Stone" & Navigation00:07:12 Sensory Attraction: Biological Sex, Symmetry, and Physical Beauty00:12:30 Designed Appeal: Architecture & Modern Device Psychology00:15:30 Sound, Smell, Taste, and Touch: Creating Order Beyond Nature00:20:56 Mental Attraction: From Troubling Intimacy to Beautiful Qualities (Pāramīs)00:26:00 Consciousness as Worldview: Businessman vs. Musician Mindsets00:28:50 The 7 Reasons Ideas Attract Us (And Why Appeal ≠ Truth)00:33:05 Conspiracy Theories, Elegance, Flattery & Authority in Belief00:44:05 Personal Investigation vs. Blind Acceptance00:45:36 Nibbāna & Transcendence: Moving Beyond Attraction and Repulsion00:56:23 Transcending Subject and Object: The Goal of Liberation00:58:33 Conclusion & Closing---📌 What I cover in this talk:• Magnetism & the "Affinity Stone": How attraction operates in physical matter• Sensory design: Symmetry, proportion, harmony, and smartphone design• Mental attraction: Moving from undifferentiated intimacy to virtue• The 7 patterns of attractive ideas: Why we believe what feels compelling• Nibbāna as transcendence: Moving beyond the subjective–objective division---📖 Books & Resources:• My book: "Paramata: A Modern Approach to Abhidhamma"  Available at https://highermindart.info or on Amazon• Website: https://highermindart.infoIf you find these explorations of Dhamma and philosophy helpful, please consider subscribing and sharing!
  • Rethinking the Abhidhamma: A Modern Approach to Buddhist Philosophy 23.06.2026 36mnt
Welcome back to the podcast. In this episode, I share an untraditional, practical, and highly philosophical introduction to the Abhidhamma. Too often, this system is treated as a dogmatic, static monument that requires decades of scholastic study, leaving seekers wondering how it actually applies to meditation and daily life. But historically, the Abhidhamma has always been an evolving project—an "unfinished" system meant to be clarified, adjusted, and improved for real-world practice.Drawing on universal perspectives, we break down the grand framework of Buddhist psychology and philosophy into natural principles that any analytical mind can recognize:1. The Four Ultimates (Paramatthas): We start from the ground up, looking first at our physical physiology (Matter/Rupa) and exploring how it shapes our mental qualities (Cetasika) and moments of consciousness (Citta), before pointing toward the transcendence of individuality (Nibbana).2. The 24 Patthana Conditions: Reinterpreted not as dry scholastic terminology, but as the "grammar of insight"—the universal, relational principles of nature (such as attraction, repulsion, and analogy).3. The Five Niyamas: The overarching laws governing physical, organic, mental, and spiritual existence.Whether you are a student of the Abhidhamma, an experienced meditator, or simply a student of philosophy, this talk offers a practical framework to understand your own mind without getting lost in excessive dogmas.---📺 PREFER A VISUAL COMPANION?I highly recommend watching the fully-illustrated video version of this talk on YouTube. • The Four Noble Truths: Suffering and How to Transcend it 14.12.2025 36mnt
In this Dhamma talk, Bhikkhu Dhammānanda explores the Buddha's most fundamental teaching: The Four Noble Truths. Just as an elephant's footprint is large enough to contain the footprints of all other animals, the Four Noble Truths contain all other skillful teachings within Buddhism. The discussion moves beyond the common translation of 'Dukkha' as merely "suffering" to understand it as "imperfection" and "unsatisfactoriness"—a quality that pervades life from birth to death, and even into the nature of consciousness itself.Topics covered in this episode:• The First Truth: Why "Dukkha" encompasses the whole spectrum from subtle imperfection to gross suffering.• The Second Truth: The origin of suffering and the 12 links of Dependent Origination.• The Third Truth: The optimistic reality that suffering can end (Nirvana).• The Fourth Truth: The Noble Eightfold Path as a practical guide for daily life.• Meditation: How to develop Clarity (Mindfulness) and Samadhi (Stillness).Resources:• Download the book 'Paramattha' for free: https://highermindart.info• Watch the video version on YouTube: [https://youtu.be/QdmP0hYc2bw?si=i7Y5Z3wPNFCdQDsA]
