  Though it's hard for some of us to admit, we all have a tendency toward pride. That's especially true when God uses us. It sure is important to give credit where credit is due. Think about it, what do we have that we didn't receive? This is Hope From The Word. On today's broadcast we take another look at the Historical record of the kings of Judah found in Second Chronicles. We'll be in chapters twenty-five and twenty-six discussing the end of the reign of king Amaziah and then move into the reign of Uzziah. He's a good King but still he falls prey to sin of pride. Like with Amaziah, prosperity becomes a snare for him.   I think we've all done something sort of half-heartedly. We may have gotten away with it in school, or on the job, but when we try to go that route in our relationship with God we get into real trouble every time. Our example is King Amaziah. He was faithful early on in his reign, but after he united with the ungodly, his relationship with the Lord went downhill.   Many of us are blessed with precious and godly influences in our lives whether it's a dad, friend, or even co-worker. Let's say, they're suddenly taken from you. What would happen to you? Joash started off great, due in large part to the godly priest that influenced him. But then things took a turn for the worse, when his influencer died.   I think most of us have at the very least been tempted to enter into a partnership with someone who is far from the Lord. But when we align ourselves with an evil person, we're asking for trouble. Our example today is the King we've been studying here on Hope From The Word. King Jehoshaphat was a righteous and godly leader, but his son Jehoram did not follow is his father's footsteps. Rather if it hadn't been for God's promise to King David to have a descendant of his on the throne forever Jehoram would have been a goner.   When studying the lives of the various Kings of Israel, it's evident that many steered off in the wrong direction. But every so often, a good and godly King would come to the throne and be a breath of fresh air! Such was the case with King Jehoshaphat. He was a true lover of God, an influence for righteousness in the southern Kingdom of Judah. He certainly faced his fair share of adversity, but he handled it right, for the most part. And we'll learn from his great example today on Hope From The Word. When a need arises, or problems occur, Pastor Bill Luebkemann says the first place to go is to God in prayer.   I don't know about you, but I can think of a lot of people right now that are facing enormous difficulties.   The Christian life isn't a sprint, it isn't a stroll in the park either, it's a race; and we're encouraged to run with endurance the race which is set before us. Some start out of the gate quite well but finish weak. Others give up half-way through for one reason or another. How can we be among the few that start and finish well?
