Judge Megan Marshall ordered bodies and immediately surrounding blood blacked out in City of Moscow releases. Idaho State Police posted nearly 2,800 crime-scene images in January 2026 and removed them later that day. The Goncalves family said the images were live by the end of a 12-minute warning call. Senate Bill 1250 later exempted death-investigation photographs from public disclosure. Kohberger's family now backs his post-conviction effort and says it wants the complete truth addressed through a trial. Kohberger claims his former lawyers induced a false confession through bad advice, false promises and threats. At the July 2, 2025 plea hearing, however, he told Judge Steven Hippler that no one threatened him, no one promised him anything beyond the deal, and no one told him to answer untruthfully. He said the plea was voluntary and that he was guilty. His petition also highlights hair from Ethan Chapin's right hand. Defense expert Ruth Ballard had examined one hair from that location before the plea and found it morphologically consistent with Chapin's own reference sample. The next fight turns on evidence. Ohio BCI Senior Special Agent David Hammond testified that the damage to the garage side door was inconsistent with the forced-entry burglaries he had investigated.   The juror who single-handedly blocked Lindsay Clancy's acquittal allegedly had a restraining order against him for violence against a child while he sat in judgment of a mother who killed hers. And now a judge wants to see his questionnaire.On September 21, 2026, Judge William Sullivan granted a motion from Clancy's defense attorney Kevin Reddington to produce the holdout's sealed juror questionnaire, preserve related records, and conduct a limited inquiry. The motion alleges the juror may have concealed his criminal history and an active court order during jury selection.Michael Desronvil was arrested in Brockton in 2021 after he allegedly grabbed his then-wife by the throat and threw her into a dresser. The charge was dismissed. Separately, his teenage nephew obtained a restraining order after alleging Desronvil assaulted him. A judge found the teenager met all elements based on legitimate fear of physical violence. That order was active while Desronvil served on the Clancy jury at Plymouth Superior Court.Fellow jurors have also alleged Desronvil used his cellphone during deliberations. Reddington wants the phone surrendered to a neutral examiner. A juror accessing outside material during deliberations is the one category that pierces the legal protection shielding jury secrecy.Desronvil disputes other jurors' accounts through counsel, saying he had no doubts about Clancy's guilt. The defense is building a double-jeopardy argument with newly added attorney Martin Weinberg: if the juror was unqualified, the jury was broken, and the mistrial doesn't count. The next hearing is September 29. Prosecutors had moved to keep both sketches out as irrelevant and hearsay, and Judge Fran Gull agreed on the morning of opening statements.The jury also watched videos of Allen in his Westville cell with the sound off. Gull ruled the audio was hearsay because it was his own voice and he wasn't testifying. On it, according to the appeal record, Allen calls himself a king and says he started World War III. A metallurgist hired to challenge the bullet match was kept out because Gull ruled he wasn't a firearms expert.The state's written brief concedes Allen had a "period of psychosis" and argues he confessed before and after it. Its lawyer told the court he was held in solitary longer than policy allows because he wasn't safe anywhere else, and that under Indiana case law those conditions aren't coercion.Allen's side wants a new trial because it says the state broke him first and then built a case on what he said. The state's side wants the 130 years upheld because it says any mistake at trial was harmless beyond a reasonable doubt. It says Allen's own words to police, placing him on the trail that afternoon, carry the case on their own.The judges asked the state more than once whether the jury would have convicted anyway. The answer to that question is the whole appeal.
