Dogs are companions, guardians, and much more – they complete us and might save us from ourselves. Anna Webb explores all levels of modern dog ownership, revealing why every dog is extraordinary. She speaks with scientists and experts who are changing our understanding of dogs, covering topics like emotional intelligence, nutrition, and behavior. The show delves into homeopathy, telepathic communication, and the pet food scandal. It's thought-provoking, alternative, and a little subversive.

  • Save the Dogs of Morocco 14.06.2026 50min
We’re joined by Debbie Wilson of the International Animal Coalition (IAWPC) and Actor, Animal Activist and Advocate, Peter Egan discussing the latest on the campaign to end the violent and inhumane killing of street dogs in Morocco. Thousands of stray street dogs have been killed by either by extreme violence, being shot or poisoned. The reason - the forthcoming FIFA World Cup in 2030, which Morocco is co-hosting alongside Portugal and Spain. Despite being informed by the International Coalition - IAWPC that Morocco is in clear breach of all recognised and acceptable standards of civilised behaviour in relation to the humane treatment, welfare and protection of dogs, as well as in clear breach of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child., FIFA has refused to comment or take action. It's a moment to remember what  Mahatma Gandhi famously said: “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."To sign the petitions mentions in the show click here for Action Network and here for SoidogFor more information visit the website or follow on InstagramFollow Peter Egan on TwitterFor more about Antinol and Naturaw, including A Dog's Life discounts you can use, go to the 'Anna Recommends' page at annawebb.co.ukMusic and production by Mike Hanson for Pod People ProductionsCover art by JaijoCover photo by Rhian Ap Gruffydd at Gruff Pawtraits
  • Dr Greger Larson Returns 07.06.2026 35min
We’re joined by Dr Greger Larson of Oxford University who specialises in studying Ancient DNA, discussing the remains of a jawbone, which proved that dogs were living with humans in Britain almost 15,000 years ago. As a landmark find with DNA confirming its identity as not being a wolf, it proves that humans and dogs were co-habiting more than 5,000 years earlier than previously thought.  At a time before humans had become farmers, these dogs clearly played a big part in these human communities, with proof they were even buried beside their people - man’s best friend. • Junkyard Dogs! 01.03.2026 40min
With Crufts just three days away, we’re so excited to be chatting to Naturaw’s Founder, Jess Warneken, on the company’s sponsorship of the Flyball team, Junkyard Dogs. Competing at this year’s most prestigious global canine event, we’re also joined by the team captain, Cheryl Quinn, who discusses why the pressure is on! She explains the training involved - and that’s not just for the dogs - and why it’s such a community driven sport and highly competitive. Teaching the dogs to remain focused, takes time and commitment with weekly training sessions.  Cheryl believes any dog can enjoy Flyball, but at a high competition level, the dogs are chosen for their commitment to their team spirit, and for their individual skills. Some have more speed to gain time, whilst others have others combine speed with accuracy that’s needed to prevent any faults. Every Flyball team must incorporate at least one pure bred dog , which in Junkyard’s case is a Border Collie, others can be any cross breed, with Lurchers being firm favourites.Naturaw is thrilled to support Junkyard Dogs! As the sport requires dogs to be in peak condition to win with speed and precision, the  team is fed Naturaw for this reason. Helping to fuel them for optimum health from the inside out.No matter what,  it’s about having fun, the dogs have been acclimatised to the atmosphere , the roar of the crowds and the many distractions - sights , sounds and smells  that can overwhelm many dogs. As always everyone at Crufts no mater what takes their best dog home!Follow Junkyard Dogs on Instagram @jydflyballGet 20% off your first purchase by using the promo code AnnaWebb20 when you check out at Naturaw.co.ukThis episode is powered by Antinol. • Greger Larson 08.02.2026 39min
This week we're joined by Ancient DNA Specialist, Professor Greger Larson of Oxford University who has revealed that cats have only been domesticated for 4,000 years. Until very recently we have assumes this figure was 10,000 years.Prof Greger discusses how his work helps map our relationships with both cats and dogs in line with our own human evolution.Explaining that although cats were thought to have been domesticated around 10,000 years ago , in fact the latest science suggests that cats began their close relationship with humans relatively recently especially when compared to dogs.He explains the cats’ evolution and why the ancient Egyptians thought of them as deities, and why their recent domestication means they are literally more wild than dogs.Cats were happy to stay at a comfortable distance from humans for thousands of years.Unlike dogs, we chat briefly on a very new discovery that potentially is the oldest known dog to ever! Some argue it’s a vital missing link, but will this change our knowledge of dogs per se?However Prof Greger could have an announcement brewing that might just change this.Get 20% off your first purchase by using the promo code AnnaWebb20 when you check out at Naturaw.co.ukThis episode is powered by Antinol.
