How to Disagree with Someone More Powerful: The Harvard Business Review Guide 23.09.2026 10минHow to Disagree with Someone More Powerful: The Harvard Business Review Guide 26 Oct 2021 --- Just agreeing with your boss (or your boss’s boss) feels easier, but it’s often better to voice your disagreement. HBR's Amy Gallo shows how. 00:00 Let’s say you disagree with someone more powerful than you. Should you say so? 00:30 Before deciding, do a risk assessment 01:39 When and where to voice disagreement 02:20 What to say ... 04:00 … and how to say it 05:38 Ok, let’s recap! How exactly do you voice dissent with your superior? And is it always worth it to do so? First, weigh the risk of pushback or a negative reaction from a boss against the risk of not speaking up. If you do decide to voice your opinion, there are some best practices to keep in mind. State your opinions as facts, avoiding using judgment words. In addition, ask permission to dissent instead of offering an unsolicited opinion. Keep in mind that the final decision is still in the hands of your boss, but being honest and respectful will show them that they have more options. Sanofi’s CEO on How Company Culture Can Thrive in a Distributed, Hybrid World 23.09.2026 39минSanofi’s CEO on How Company Culture Can Thrive in a Distributed, Hybrid World 11 Nov 2021 --- Paul Hudson, head of one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies, says leaders need to sit back and listen more often. HBR editor in chief Adi Ignatius sat down with the Sanofi CEO to talk about how to drive a strong corporate culture in a dispersed, hybrid era; what the office of the future might look like, and companies' duty to help employees achieve their best selves. Harvard's Arthur C. Brooks on the Secrets to Joy in Your Career 23.09.2026 41минHarvard’s Arthur C. Brooks on the Secrets to Happiness at Work 12 Sep 2023 --- To the strivers and workaholics out there, bestselling author and Harvard professor Arthur C. Brooks has a message for you: change your behavior before it’s too late. Brooks was one of you: a pace-setting boss who expected others to work 80-hour weeks just like him, leaving little time for friends and family. He says he was addicted not to work, but to success. And he missed watching his kids grow up. Today he classifies behavior like his as a pathology that can lead to misery. And he has concrete, actionable advice for increasing your life’s happiness. In fact, he writes about it in a regular column for The Atlantic. For this episode of our video series “The New World of Work”, HBR editor in chief Adi Ignatius sat down with Brooks, co-author (with Oprah Winfrey) of "Build the Life You Want: The Art and Science of Getting Happier", to discuss: · What’s caused the severe dip in general happiness in the last few years? · The two traits of those who find true happiness in their work · The difference between “deal friends” and “real friends”. The real kind are “beautifully useless” and you need them more than deal friends Happiness is contagious, Brooks says, and just being in a happy person’s vicinity can make you happier. “But,” he says, “even more contagious is misery.” This interview part of a series called “The New World of Work,” which explores how top-tier executives see the future and how their companies are trying to set themselves up for success. Each week, Adi will interview a leader on LinkedIn Live — and then share an inside look at those conversations and solicit questions for future discussions in a newsletter just for HBR subscribers. Former Unilever CEO Paul Polman Says Aiming for Sustainability Isn’t Enough. The Goal Is Much Higher 23.09.2026 43минFormer Unilever CEO Paul Polman Says Aiming for Sustainability Isn’t Enough. The Goal Is Much Higher 19 Nov 2021 --- Paul Polman, who now chairs Imagine, challenges business leaders to ask themselves if they care about the world’s problems — and if they do, how far are they willing to push their companies to help solve them? HBR editor in chief Adi Ignatius sat down with Polman, whose new book is "Net Positive: How Courageous Companies Thrive By Giving More than They Take" (https://www.amazon.com/Net-Positive-Courageous-Companies-Thrive/dp/1647821304) to talk about: • How leaders can drive ambitious sustainability agendas • The importance of corporate transparency in building trust • How employees can force change from within, as customers and society apply pressure from without. Aiming for sustainability is not enough, Polman says. “Companies are starting to understand that you need to be restorative, reparative, regenerative.” This interview is the fourth in a new video series called “The New World of Work,” which will explore how top-tier executives see the future and how their companies are trying to set themselves up for success. Marcus Buckingham: Why "Love" Is Fundamental to Career Success 23.09.2026 43минMarcus Buckingham: Why "Love" Is the Key to Career Success 14 Apr 2022 --- If you don’t love anything about your work, it could destroy you. Bestselling author Marcus Buckingham is a researcher and entrepreneur, and has a new book called Love and Work: How to Find What You Love, Love What You Do, and Do It for the Rest of Your Life (https://www.amazon.com/Love-Work-Find-What-Rest/dp/1647821231/). He says you don't have to love all that you do, but if you have no love for any of your work then you won't be creative, innovative, or resilient. HBR editor in chief Adi Ignatius sat down with Buckingham, who leads the ADP Research Institute, in this episode of our video series “The New World of Work” to talk about: • Love is very specific. It lives in the details. Managers need to meet frequently with direct reports to understand their small-scale, short-term challenges and joys. • What makes people feel part of a team? It’s not necessarily about whether people work together in person or remotely. • The dangers of purely transactional work. Doing something you don’t have any love for, just for a paycheck, can damage you as a person. This interview part of a series called “The New World of Work,” which explores how top-tier executives see the future and how their companies are trying to set themselves up for success.
