In the 17% of Ukraine currently occupied by Russia, more than 500 Baptist churches have been shut down and Evangelical pastors have been tortured. Orthodox priests outside the KGB/FSB controlled Moscow Patriarchate have been declared anathema and subject to torture and execution.   Twilight in the Field of Mars Each night at the setting of the sun, you can witness a sacred pilgrimage of mothers making their way through a field of flowing flags and fresh cut flowers to carefully manicured headstones bearing pictures of their sons. They are deeply sober, heartbroken, proud, defiant. They are not alone. Young widows arrive. They are 21, 22, some as old as 24, and often with a young child walking beside them. They light candles, care for the plots of their sons or husband, and sit quietly staring at the beautiful faces they will never see on this side of Heaven. They share a common experience - recent loss by a known foe. These graves are fresh. Each one placed after February 24, 2022, the day that Russians invaded the nation of Ukraine.
