(01:42:46) Final Thoughts with Spoilers In this episode of The Unreal Hour, hosts Fiona and Emma dive headfirst into House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 7, "The Dragon in Winter," kicking things off with a heavy dose of awe for Aegon's accidental main character energy and Sunfire's terrifying, scale-shaking return. They break down the surprisingly brutal, four-way ground dragon brawl with the kind of visceral enthusiasm that only true fantasy nerds can muster.Naturally, no dragon discussion is complete without keeping up their running gag of plugging "jobby bombs"—only this time, they were treated to a magnificent, trebuchet-ready specimen right on screen.Things take a delightfully cynical turn as the duo unpacks Helaena's spine-chilling, inescapable three-part vision sequence—complete with pale mare omens and an eclipse signaling that the Long Night is coming for everyone regardless of their life choices. From there, they aggressively side-eye the show's insistence on dragging characters through bizarre, surplus-to-requirements incest dream sequences that leave them ready to vomit.Between Mysaria holding court, awkward romantic wires crossing between Baela and Addam, and characters spiraling into deep psychological dread, nobody is having a good time in Westeros.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/support.Find us at theunrealhour.com • Email: talk@theunrealhour.comFollow us on Bluesky, Facebook & Instagram: @theunrealhourSupport the show:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/supportpatreon.com/theunrealhour or buymeacoffee.com/theunrealhourKeep it Unreal -

From there, we happily crown Gwayne Hightower the undisputed MVP of the episode. Watching him handle an insufferable Ormond Hightower while sniffing out an infiltration of mud-and-shite-covered fake Baratheons acting as living tactical jobby bombs is an absolute highlight. We also head over to The Harrenhal Hatchery to soak in the spooky fortress atmosphere, marvel at the sixty-year-old dragon egg lore, and pick apart the increasingly bizarre off-book directions. Finally, we wrap up with our foolproof geographical theory that Jon Roxton must be utilizing a literal shrinking machine to pull off those warp-speed, time-bending Westerosi road trips. Meanwhile, up at Harrenhal, Alys Rivers is serving premier spooky witch energy—complete with bats and eerie vibes—while we dive into some speculation about weirwood paste as she mothers an emotionally wrecked Aemond. Down in the Riverlands, Criston Cole and a deeply regretful, soaking-wet Gwayne Hightower lead a "march to death or glory" through literal bogs and leeches, until Gwayne realizes Cole is actually more interested in his sister than a tactical victory and completely peaces out of there. Meanwhile, Cole is left dreaming about white water rafting to his own dramatic destiny. Back in the capital, Rhaenyra is descending into full-blown paranoia as a literal bloodbath hits the Gold Cloaks' barracks, and nobody will take her Vhagar panic seriously. This episode was a solid eight out of ten, mostly because it gave us exactly the kind of lore and misery we crave. With Plotto officially out of the picture, we’ve found a worthy successor in Plotmund—aka Ormund Hightower. He’s filling that void with spectacular energy, whether he’s asserting dominance by pacing around naked in a bathhouse or delivering "fatherly" advice that’s really just thinly veiled manipulation. Meanwhile, Rhaenyra is completely missing the tactical genius of "jobby bombs" as an air-to-ground offensive weapon. To top it off, Harrenhal continues to be a spooky graveyard, and the dragon bonds were absolutely popping off. Caraxes is out here having full-blown human-dragon arguments with Daemon, Rhaena is playing hide-and-seek with Sheepstealer, and we’re sticking to our guns: Sunfire isn't dead, he’s just in a state of "brumation." Keep telling yourself that, and maybe it'll come true.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/support.Find us at theunrealhour.com • Email: talk@theunrealhour.comFollow us on Bluesky, Facebook & Instagram: @theunrealhourSupport the show:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/supportpatreon.com/theunrealhour or buymeacoffee.com/theunrealhourKeep it Unreal -
'Rhaenyra Triumphant' HOTD S3E3 (ACOIAF #29) 08.07.2026 1u 44minYou know us—we’re the channel that usually finds the silver lining in every frame. We’ve defended the pacing, the adaptation hurdles, and the creative choices because we genuinely love this world. But this week, the mask slipped. As Ned Stark once said: "Everything before 'but' is horse shit". While there were moments we wanted to enjoy, we have to be honest: this episode felt like a fundamental disconnect from the characters and the stakes we know. We don't take pleasure in tearing this episode apart, but we couldn't just pretend otherwise. We went in with high hopes, but we were met with a conceptual approach that, in our view, failed to land. From logistical plot holes that defy the show's own internal rules to character beats that ignored the established emotional continuity, we break down why this installment didn't work for us. This isn't a critique of a declining series—last week's episode earned a 9.5 from us—but this specific episode was a misfire that we simply can't defend. We’re pulling back the curtain on why the logic fell apart and why, for the first time, we found ourselves struggling to find the ground to stand on. If you’ve finished the episode and found yourself scratching your head at the decision-making, this is the deep dive you’ve been waiting for. We’re discussing the "fake Daeron" plot, the questionable Corlys scene, and why this conceptual swing felt like such a massive waste of screen time. With fan service, symbolism, and one very strange but brilliant end-credits song, The Morrow proves this show was made with real love for the world of Ice and Fire.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/support.Find us at theunrealhour.com • Email: talk@theunrealhour.comFollow us on Bluesky, Facebook & Instagram: @theunrealhourSupport the show:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/supportpatreon.com/theunrealhour or buymeacoffee.com/theunrealhourKeep it Unreal -
"In the Name of the Mother" AKOT7K EP 5 (ACOIAF #24) 19.02.2026 1u 43minThis week on A Cast of Ice and Fire, Fiona and Emma tackle the penultimate episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms— and yes, we are still not okay. From a bold 20-minute Flea Bottom flashback to one of the most brutal, muddy, chaotic Trial of Seven sequences we’ve seen on screen, we break down the sound design, the battlefield choreography, the Fossoway lane logistics (you’re welcome), and the moment that shattered Westeros… and Emma’s heart. We talk Baelor the Brilliant, Maekar the Unfortunate, the Humphreys (RIP, lads), the very un-Daemon gold cloaks, and whether Dunk’s foot was really worth a prince’s life. Then we head firmly into spoiler territory to unpack the Dexter slip heard round the fandom and ask the question: have we all collectively misremembered Summerhall? It’s grief. It’s lore. It’s Rocky IV energy in plate armour. It’s green flag devastation. And yes… we absolutely lost it in the RIP section.Pour a glass. We’re going in.Dexter Spoiler Video : https://youtu.be/phGlvEuxmoI?si=mpyVbvILMFGhpEiYBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/support.Find us at theunrealhour.com • Email: talk@theunrealhour.comFollow us on Bluesky, Facebook & Instagram: @theunrealhourSupport the show:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/supportpatreon.com/theunrealhour or buymeacoffee.com/theunrealhourKeep it Unreal -
"Seven" AKOT7K EP 4 (ACOIAF #23) 12.02.2026 1u 16minNo dragons. No wildfire. No battle sequence.Just dialogue so good it broke the fandom. This week, Fiona and Emma dive into the highest-rated episode of the season — and possibly one of the most powerful hours in the entire Westeros universe. We unpack Dunk’s prison confrontation, Baelor’s masterclass in calm authority, Daeron’s increasingly relatable anxiety spiral, and the political chaos that leads to the first Trial of Seven in over a century — with some very uncomfortable Maegor parallels along the way. There are suspicious Fossoways, extremely loaded family dynamics, one perfectly placed bit of comic relief, and that moment — yes, that one — when the music swells and suddenly nobody is emotionally safe.No RIP section this week. We checked twice. But the trial is coming. And it’s going to be brutal.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/support.Find us at theunrealhour.com • Email: talk@theunrealhour.comFollow us on Bluesky, Facebook & Instagram: @theunrealhourSupport the show:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/supportpatreon.com/theunrealhour or buymeacoffee.com/theunrealhourKeep it Unreal -
"The Squire" AKOT7K EP 3 (ACOIAF #22) 04.02.2026 49minEpisode 3 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms leans hard into humour, heart, and horror — and we loved it. Fiona and Emma break down Egg’s excellent horse diplomacy, Dunk’s brief flirtation with tourney glory, and why Ser Humphrey Harding’s horse deserved better. We talk puppet shows, Baratheon parties, morally questionable match-fixing, spectacular armour, medieval musical choices, and one punch that changes everything. There’s an RIP section that once again spirals despite the lack of human fatalities, a wood witch who immediately sets off alarm bells, and a moment where the larger shape of the story finally clicks into place.Funny, brutal, and quietly devastating, this episode does a lot of emotional damage with a smile on its face.https://www.tylerjacobsonart.comhttps://georgerrmartin.com/notablog/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/support.Find us at theunrealhour.com • Email: talk@theunrealhour.comFollow us on Bluesky, Facebook & Instagram: @theunrealhourSupport the show:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/supportpatreon.com/theunrealhour or buymeacoffee.com/theunrealhourKeep it Unreal -
Hard Salt Beef AKOT7K EP 2 (ACOIAF #21) 29.01.2026 1u 39minA Cast of Ice and Fire returns with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Episode 2, Hard Salt Beef, as Fiona and Emma throw Dunk straight into the deep end.We break the episode down scene by scene, from Redgrass Field and Westeros’ favourite way of ending rebellions (hint: overwhelming force), to tourney chaos, questionable prosthetics, genuinely excellent armour, and one very memorable fish-related incident — and assess whether Aerion has reached peak arsehole yet, or if there’s still room to grow. There’s puppet shows, painted shields, tug-of-war nonsense, Sweetfoot heartbreak, and Egg being suspiciously well-informed for a shaved orphan from nowhere. Along the way we dip into behind-the-scenes details, relevant lore, and an RIP section that somehow survives despite nobody technically dying — and, as ever, we do not make it through the eulogies without laughing.Spoilers for book readers at the end.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/support.Find us at theunrealhour.com • Email: talk@theunrealhour.comFollow us on Bluesky, Facebook & Instagram: @theunrealhourSupport the show:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/supportpatreon.com/theunrealhour or buymeacoffee.com/theunrealhourKeep it Unreal -
The Hedge Knight AKOT7K EP 1 (ACOIAF #20) 23.01.2026 1u 5minEpisode 1: The Hedge KnightWesteros is back — but it’s muddier, quieter, and significantly more awkward. In our first full breakdown of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, we dive into “The Hedge Knight”, a refreshingly small-scale opener about grief, integrity, dodgy armour, and one very tall man with absolutely no plan.We talk casting, tone, filming locations, puppet dragons, feast-hall chaos, and why this story feels nothing like Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon. Less thrones, more feelings. Less prophecy, more social anxiety.Smart analysis, wine-adjacent opinions, and a rapidly growing emotional attachment to Dunk — whether he’s a real knight or not.🍷 Spoilers for episode one only🛡️ No book spoilers beyond the showBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/support.Find us at theunrealhour.com • Email: talk@theunrealhour.comFollow us on Bluesky, Facebook & Instagram: @theunrealhourSupport the show:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/supportpatreon.com/theunrealhour or buymeacoffee.com/theunrealhourKeep it Unreal -

"The Red Sowing' & 'The Queen Who Ever Was" Part 1 (HOTD E7&8) (ACOIAF #15) 30.04.2025 2u 38minFiona and Emma kick off Part 1 of their two-part, five-hour deep dive into House of the Dragon Season 2, Episodes 7 and 8 — and yes, it’s absolutely as chaotic and lore-drenched as it sounds. We begin in the Riverlands, where prepubescent icon Oscar Tully outmaneuvers Daemon Targaryen with nothing but ancestral loyalty and the pure power of “my granddad said so.” From there, we head straight into Harrenhal — land of broken dreams, haunted chairs, and George R.R. Martin’s actual face carved into a tree. Daemon is slowly losing his grip on reality (again), Viserys makes a ghostly return via decomposing wig, and Vision Goat appears to silently judge us all.Meanwhile, Alicent Hightower takes a pensive nude swim in a lake that may or may not scream Sin. Bathe. Pray. — depending on your level of TikTok brain rot. Is it a spiritual cleanse? A death wish? Or just a girl who finally found a big enough bath? Fiona and Emma debate.Rhaenyra, meanwhile, ascends — emotionally, spiritually, and maybe just a little bit manically — as the Dragonseed storyline ignites. Jace has an identity crisis, Corlys does his best emotionally distant dad impression, and the bastards start getting ideas. Add in a few behind-the-scenes nuggets (like 16 stuntmen actually being set on fire), and you’ve got yourself one hell of a Part 1.It’s full of insight, laughs, lore, goat theories, unfiltered rants, and a surprising amount of reverence for Silverwing.Part 2 coming soon — and it’s even hotter than Vermithor in a recruitment pitBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/support.Find us at theunrealhour.com • Email: talk@theunrealhour.comFollow us on Bluesky, Facebook & Instagram: @theunrealhourSupport the show:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/supportpatreon.com/theunrealhour or buymeacoffee.com/theunrealhourKeep it Unreal -
"Regent" & "Smallfolk" (HOTD S2E5&6) (ACOIAF #14) 11.03.2025 3u 5minIn this scorching episode of A ’Cast of Ice and Fire, Fiona and Emma dissect House of the Dragon Season 2, Episodes 5 & 6—where the realm is in chaos, allegiances are as flimsy as a Targaryen marriage vow, and no one is safe (especially if they have a dragon).Between battles and betrayals, we dive deep into Daemon’s increasingly ominous dreams—because nothing says “coping mechanism” like cryptic Targaryen visions of doom. Meanwhile, Aemond isn’t waiting around for Aegon to recover, stepping up as the real power behind the throne (and let’s be honest, probably enjoying it way too much). Criston Cole may have the title of Hand, but his grip on reality? Not so strong. As the pressure of war mounts, his past actions—murder, war crimes, and a lifetime of bad decisions—start catching up with him, leading to some very unstable leadership moments. Fiona and Emma also take a lore-filled detour into the history of dragon dreams, past and present Targaryen rulers who may or may not have lost their minds over them, and what this could mean for Daemon’s fate.Fiona and Emma bring the jokes, the drama, and the inevitable heartbreak as they try to pick apart who’s winning, who’s losing, and who’s about to be roasted alive next. Grab your wildfire whiskey and prepare for some hot takes—because, much like Westeros, this podcast is descending into madness.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/support.Find us at theunrealhour.com • Email: talk@theunrealhour.comFollow us on Bluesky, Facebook & Instagram: @theunrealhourSupport the show:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/a-cast-of-ice-and-fire--6182218/supportpatreon.com/theunrealhour or buymeacoffee.com/theunrealhourKeep it Unreal
