#361 Psycroptic - Inside the Metal 23.07.2026 1t 4min“It’s the most readable death metal logo I’ve ever seen in my life…” Dave and Joe Haley. If you’re trying to understand the importance of this particular drum & guitar team, just think of some of the other legendary “band of brothers” in the metal community that come to mind who have gone on to elevate and transform modern music as we know it…brothers such as Alex & Eddie Van Halen and Vinnie & Darrell Abbott. Formed in 1999 (“the year of the Matrix”) and hailing from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, technical death metal juggernauts PSYCROPTIC have swiftly evolved from the stereotypical “cookie monster” style of traditional death metal into an exponentially advanced, ultra precise, tech death riff machine of such complex artistry & surgical precision that the only proper response to have when listening to them is to laugh out loud in amazement and exclaim “WHOA!” with utter disbelief, shock, and awe at such incredible technical proficiency and prowess. Hear one of the most complimentary voicemails we’ve ever received, never forget that “you’ve gotta use your teeth” whenever you are “schlebbin or schluppin”, and find out how snakes bang when you JOIN US as we go INSIDE THE METAL with the most technically gifted band of tech death Aussies we’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to with PSYCROPTIC. #360 Nuclear Blast Records 16.07.2026 53minSummary: “Have you ever been to a buffet where you literally try everything?” Sometimes the best way to find your new favorite things is to just sample a lot of different things until you find the things that you enjoy the most. As with a buffet…or even dating, you just “grab something” you think you might like and “give it a taste”. If you like it, you keep going back for more. And if it’s not your thing, you simply continue the process of sampling and tasting other things until you find something you truly enjoy. Founded by Markus Staiger in Donzdorf, Germany way back in 1987, NUCLEAR BLAST has signed a myriad of metal artists over the years from across the spectrum of sub genres, ranging from hardcore and symphonic metal to industrial metal, thrash metal, and beyond, including some top tier legacy thrash bands from the 1980’s that enjoyed a resurgence in popularity during the 2000’s (fun fact: Slayer’s final studio album, Repentless, is the highest charting NUCLEAR BLAST release in the United States, making it to Number 4 on the Billboard 200.) In the context of this particular episode, we are referring to our recent sampling of the artist roster from NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS, and much like with dating and buffets, there were some bands we enjoyed more than others, some that were right up our alley and REALLY hit the spot, and some that just weren’t our cup of tea (so to speak), but rest assured that everything we sampled was most definitely interesting and we learned a few things along the way. Prepare for the most philosophical voicemail about metal music that we’ve ever received, realize that when it comes to power outages and paranormal activity that “I just wanna make sure that they know that I know that they know” and remember that “sometimes, wet’s not bad” when you JOIN US on our sampling expedition of the NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS artist roster. #359 1989 Metal and Thrash Albums 09.07.2026 57min“No sink or nothing, right? You’re just gonna go free ball it…” 1989 was the very first year EVER that The Recording Academy recognized hard rock and metal music with the “Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Vocal or Instrumental”. And other than the completely insulting “slap in the face” by The Recording Academy to Metallica (think Will Smith & Chris Rock, but even more childish, petty, and completely unnecessary), there were no other Big Four albums or happenings in 1989. (SIDEBAR: Y’know, maybe it’s just speculation, conspiracy theory, or just good old-fashioned karma in action, but the way Metallica “lost” that Grammy, it’s like they were literally “deleted from the mix” of nominees, so to speak. Not unlike a certain bass player from a certain mix on a certain album. Moving on…) “Just gonna raw dog it…” As we are all aware, metal (especially thrash) is far more than just The Big Four, and 1989 was actually quite an excellent year for metal. As thrash was nearing the zenith of its popularity, Wrathchild America’s debut album, Climbin’ The Walls, hit the record store shelves, Exodus, Testament, and Sepultura each released legendary 3rd albums, and Nuclear Assault released the first, the best, and arguably one of the most revolutionary lyric videos in the history of music for Critical Mass, featuring a one-eyed smiley face saying, “Follow me!” and a “Required Nasty Bit”, courtesy of Jessica Hahn. “What is YOUR favorite album of 1989?” Prepare yourself for a bit of obscure Metal Nerdery 1989-centric trivia, embrace what it means to receive your “first JOB”, and find out what you should definitely NOT do in your landlord’s pool when you JOIN US as we fire up the time machine and go check out THE CLASS OF 1989. #358 Tributes to the Fallen: Celebrating the Lives of Those We've Lost in Metal 02.07.2026 1t 12minDeath. The word alone possesses the same tangible finality and permanence as the act itself. Death marks the end of one’s physical life & existence in this world and can come as a tragic, sudden, and untimely end, or as the sometimes “welcome” final resolution of life following a long, protracted period of illness and suffering. “We got to live on the same earth at the same time as all these dudes…” Regardless of how it presents, death impacts every single human on earth. Whether it’s the death of a loved one or our own mortality, it’s the one thing we as humans all share. And no matter what we do or how we live out our lives, eventually we will ALL be (as Lemmy so poetically put it) “killed by death” …and nobody has any idea “when” or “how” it will arrive. “Do you know how many Junes they lived through?” Over the course of our lifetime, we all bid farewell to the artists which have helped shape us as people, providing us with what would become the soundtrack to our lives. Many of our favorite artists passed away before we even became familiar with their work, and many have passed away so recently that we are still processing their loss from the perspective of our own lives and the impact that their lives and their art have had on us. “All you gotta do if you miss them is press play…” Having said that, we are not here to bemoan the losses we’ve experienced in the metal community so much as we are here to ask you to JOIN US as we CELEBRATE the legacy of those we have lost who have blessed our lives so richly with the timeless art they created that will forever transcend death. #357 Stone Temple Pilots — Core: The Album That Critics Hated and Fans Made Platinum 25.06.2026 1t 7min“I mean it’s June, so…” Released September 29, 1992, CORE, the debut album from San Diego, California’s own STONE TEMPLE PILOTS (or STP for short) is one of those albums that doesn’t really fit into the “grunge” category, nor does it fit into the traditional “heavy metal” box either. It’s certainly not grunge but is definitely “more metal than Pearl Jam”, and while there may be some subtle similarities here and there, they are as different as apples and apple sauce. “It’s June, man. Knock yourself out…” Of the STP discography, CORE is certainly their heaviest and most metal sounding album, offering a refreshing change to the musical landscape of the early 90’s with an alternative brand of metal filled with enough grunt and power to appeal to metal heads while simultaneously providing enough melody & hook to achieve the widespread popularity and mainstream crossover success that would lead to its 8x platinum sales status. Produced by Brendan O’Brien, a legendary name in the alternative metal scene during the 1990’s, CORE is “the heavier side of the ‘grunge’ thing”. You might say that STP’s CORE was “the next wave of metal that wasn’t Pantera…or thrash”. “We’ve only got 2 more weeks of June though…after June, you can’t do it.” Understand that “if you’re into naked Sundays you can look at everybody’s wicked garden” and enjoy a nice “piece of pie” in the process. And if you’re still trying to do the math to figure out what a trillionaire is, just remember that “a billion is a thousand million…a trillion is a thousand billion…” and when you have that much cash laying around, “it’s gonna be like Caligula…” when you JOIN US as we eat the apple all the way down to the seeds of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS’ transformative alternative metal debut, CORE. #356 - 1980: The Beginning of Modern Metal 18.06.2026 1t 34minThe year is 1980. The U.S. National Debt is a paltry $900 Billion, the word “yuppie” appears for the first time in print, the Pac-Man videogame is released in arcades everywhere, Mount St. Helens explodes in Washington state, and Cable News Network (also known as CNN) becomes a thing. In the world of metal, Iron Maiden release their self-titled debut album, Black Sabbath reinvent themselves with new frontman Ronnie James Dio on vocals and release Heaven and Hell, and AC/DC regroup after the tragic loss of Bon Scott and release Back In Black featuring new vocalist Brian Johnson, an album that would go on to sell more than 40 million copies and become one of the biggest selling albums of all time. Just as time and technology continued marching forward, the hard rock of the 70’s continued its evolution into a new direction with a faster, heavier, and more aggressive sound beginning in 1980 that would become even faster, heavier, and more aggressive throughout the 80’s. #355 The Greatest Metal Anthems of All Time 11.06.2026 1t 11min“I wanna hear THAT at my grocery store, when I’m going for the meat section…” Whether it’s the song we all rise for at sports ball events, the first song on Rush’s “Fly By Night” album (not to mention the first song on Anthrax’s EP of classic rock covers), or the sing-along, encore at the end of a rock show, ANTHEMS represent a clarion call, a rallying cry that unites fans in unspeakable joy, unity, and celebration. It’s almost always the song that EVERYONE knows (even your grandmother) and is very much NOT a deep cut. “AC/DC’s kind of an anthem band…they have at least one on every album…” In fact, ANTHEMS are those kinds of songs where, if you hear one in a public place: at a bar, a restaurant, the grocery store, or a friend’s party, you’re not going to NOT like it. Sure, it’s probably the most well-known, popular, played into the ground, mainstream “hit” that EVERYONE (again, probably even your grandmother) is familiar with, but no matter what song it is or where you might hear it, ANTHEMS are guaranteed to get you fired up, lift your spirit, and bring a smile to your face. “I wanna do a little birthday squig…” Find out what’s happening “THIS FRIDAY”, realize that birthdays are the anniversaries of life, and JOIN US for a Bunkerpoon birthday celebration full of cake, refreshments, and good cheer as we cuss and discuss the unifying power behind rock and metal ANTHEMS. And in the spirit of heavy metal greatness, what better way to celebrate and commemorate the completion of our SEVENTH year than a tribute to the best thing MTV ever did for metal heads that started way back in the late 80’s: HEADBANGERS BALL!!! “It was the novelty, because that was the only place where you could get it…” Premiering on Saturday April 18, 1987, MTV began what would become a weekly Saturday night tradition and/or ritual for metal heads with HEADBANGERS BALL, the one section of MTV that belonged to the metal community…it was OUR show, OUR music, and OUR videos, made by metal heads for metal heads (ironically, not unlike this podcast). “SEVEN!” Granted, there were often a lot of glam and hair metal videos mixed in, but there were always a plethora of obscure thrash, power metal, and other assorted heavy metal videos on there that you absolutely could not see anywhere else on MTV except for when you tuned in to “The Ball” (NOTE: this is where the crochety “back in my day” sentiment comes into play because, as everyone with access to the internet knows, in the late 80’s, rock radio sure as hell wasn’t doing much to promote metal artists, and we certainly didn’t have Spotify or YouTube at our disposal. “The Ball” was all we had…mark the time.). “They weren’t Trans then, dude…they were 100% dudes and they were the Savatage Brothers…” Break out your finest relaxers and get ready for a celebratory stroll down memory lane, and understand that since we’re discussing music videos, you’re gonna need all the sensory enhancement you can muster to thoroughly maximize your enjoyment of this episode. Find out who’s “lips are always out”, understand why calling a woman “handsome” is a dangerous move even with the proper context, see how many applicable references to “SEVEN!” you can find in this episode, and don’t deny the power of “The Dinklage” when you JOIN US as we celebrate our 7th birthday in nostalgic style with HEADBANGERS BALL. #353- Death — Scream Bloody Gore: The Album That Created Death Metal 28.05.2026 1t 22min“Would it be fair to say that horror metal and death metal are kinda…symbiotic?” Released May 25, 1987, SCREAM BLOODY GORE, the debut album from Florida death metal pioneers DEATH, marks a dark and transformative turning point from thrash metal into something else…something with “thrash overtones” that “sounds like thrash” but also doesn’t. While it seemed to be the next logical evolutionary step for extreme metal, we weren’t exactly sure what it was. It was still thrashy, yet there was a much darker presence to it than the thrash to which we were accustomed. “They don’t have the cookie monster vocals, which is kinda nice…” As it turns out, when you mix in the violent themes of horror movies like ‘Evil Dead’ with the sonic intensity of thrash metal, you end up with death metal, the genre which Chuck Schuldiner and DEATH helped establish in the mid 1980’s, putting Florida on the map as the death metal capital of the world. “They just have a sound…if you take the vocals out, you can tell it’s Death.” Discover how immersion reading can make Dr. Seuss and Lord of the Rings even more compelling, always remember where you should “NEVER put alcohol…”, and find out which song on this album was “renamed” (thanks to the PMRC) when you JOIN US (with special guest “Xander Bonerman”) as we explore the dark depths of the debut album from the band that revolutionized extreme metal by launching a brand new subgenre of horror infused thrash with DEATH and SCREAM BLOODY GORE. #352-The Ultimate Metal Ego Check: Bands That Named Songs After Themselves 21.05.2026 1t 10min“I wonder how many modern bands still do it?” Maybe the song is named after the band and referenced in the chorus. Maybe the song is named after the band but there’s no reference to the band’s name anywhere in the lyrics. Or maybe it’s a song with a completely different title than the band name BUT the band name IS mentioned somewhere in the lyrics. “They mostly do it during their early years…” Whatever the case may be, A METAL BAND’S TITLE TRACK ultimately becomes the cornerstone of a band’s sound and their overall mission statement and objective (especially when they’re young and just starting out). “Taylor Swift doesn’t have a song called ‘Taylor Swift’…and The Beatles don’t have a song called ‘The Beatles’…” Whether it’s about building a mood, declaring some philosophical ethos, or making a proud, self-referential namecheck for fans to latch on and lock in to, A METAL BAND’S TITLE TRACK sets the tone and lets the listener know what can be expected whenever they hear it. Discover what it means to be a “hill jack”, understand why the good people of “Missourah” enjoy sipping on “Kentuckah” bourbon while floating down the “Mississippah” river, and find out how “Three Dudes…” are about to fundamentally transform metal award shows forever when you JOIN US as we investigate the importance of A METAL BAND’S TITLE TRACK. #351 Metal Church 'Dead to Rights' Review - Metal Church Prove They're Not Dead Yet 14.05.2026 1t 9min“It took me like a hard 16 seconds…but I got it down…I swallowed all of it…” Released April 10, 2026, DEAD TO RIGHTS, the 14th studio album in 40+ years from the mighty METAL CHURCH, features a new line up and a return to the power metal infused thrash style that made them a force to be reckoned with back in the 80’s, during the heyday of the (then relatively new) thrash scene. “I was proud of myself…that I finished that much…in so little time…” Featuring David Ellefson (formerly of Megadeth) on bass, Ken Mary (currently of Flotsam and Jetsam) on drums, and brand-new vocalist Brian Allen, DEAD TO RIGHTS contains all of the best elements of “The Dark” and “Blessing In Disguise” with the added blessing of modern production quality. This album is chock full of great riffs and catchy hooks that maintains the classic “flavor of Metal Church” with some upgraded, present-day refinements. “He’s got great gear…he’s got really nice gear…I kinda wanna play with his gear…” Find out why “Splitting The G” is an essential St. Patrick’s Day event for every holiday, get yourself a tiny sample of the brand-new Venom album, “Into Oblivion” (featuring Cronos), and find out why “the Metallica of the WCW” likes to enjoy “the Evil Bean with the Mean Gene” when you JOIN US as we embrace the power and the fury of METAL CHURCH with their latest offering, DEAD TO RIGHTS. #350 Was 1986 the Best Year in Metal? Master of Puppets, Reign in Blood, Peace Sells Turn 40 07.05.2026 1t 26min“If you were gonna be a stripper…what would your stage name be?” When you think about 1986, it’s almost hard to fathom that we are 40 years away from it. Four decades away from perhaps THE biggest year in metal, and we’re not just saying that because we were still young and impressionable, but because it was quite literally THAT epic of a year! March, September, and October of 1986 gave us Master of Puppets, Peace Sells… (But Who’s Buying?), and Reign In Blood (respectively), and that’s only 3 albums of thrash greatness from that year! There was also the (now classic) documentary “Heavy Metal Parking Lot”, showing a bunch of young metal heads pre-gaming for a Judas Priest show. And of course you had “Crossroads”, the favorite guitar movie of young fledgling woodshedding shredders who would become obsessed at mastering Eugene’s bag of tricks in order to conquer the dark fretboard sorcery of one Jack Butler. Basically, when it comes to 1986 and metal, “everything that was good came out that year”, and now, over 14,000 days later, 1986 is still being celebrated and lauded as one of the biggest landmark years in all of metal, especially on this podcast! Get ready to find out which movie is “basically Karate Kid…but guitars”, prepare for a grammar lesson from Down Under regarding the proper usage of one of their most popular words, discover the transformative power of “The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning”, find out how “saddling” might be just the thing to spice up your bedroom game, and then JOIN US as we welcome “Juicebox” to the mainstage while we celebrate those who graduated MAGNUM CUM LOUDLY from THE CLASS OF 1986!!! #349 - The First and The Last 30.04.2026 1t 23min“You like to hear how they have progressed or digressed…or either…or gressed…” This episode is a lot like looking at pictures of family when everyone is much younger and then looking at recent pictures of family and realizing that after enough time, a LOT changes. Just as people grow and age and (hopefully) evolve over time, no artist should currently be EXACTLY as they were when they first started, as there should be an obvious evolution and progression of their style and sound over multiple albums and decades, from their very FIRST to their very LAST. “I’m liking how this is going…we could do this for hours…” Prepare yourself for THE FIRST AND THE LAST, a snapshot in time from the killer opener on the very first album to the killer closer on the very last (or in some cases, most recent) album; basically it’s the very first from the very first paired with the very last from the very last. “The word of the episode, ladies and gentlemen, is…” By the time you’ve finished this episode, you will no doubt have “the word of the episode” carved deep into your subconscious, so much so that you’ll wonder where you put that lock blade buck knife your cousin gave you for Christmas. #348 - Black Sabbath Heaven And Hell Album Review 23.04.2026 1t 6min“This is the 80’s before the 80’s was the 80’s…” Released April 18, 1980, HEAVEN AND HELL, the 9th studio album by BLACK SABBATH (and the first to feature Ronnie James Dio on vocals), marks a simultaneous sonic departure and rebirth for the Godfathers of Metal. While some would argue that it sounds more like RJD’s solo output and NOTHING like the Sabbath of the 70’s, HEAVEN AND HELL is more than just “the next Sabbath album”. Featuring fantastical & medieval lyrical themes coupled with a revitalized songwriting style and renewed vigor, HEAVEN AND HELL is a brilliant example of how a band in desperate need of a “heavy metal makeover” can completely reinvent their sound and expand their artistic palette to accommodate a brand-new chapter for a brand-new decade. If you’ve got questions, we’ve got answers! Check out our newest segment, “ASK THE METALHEAD”. #347 - The POONYs THE NUMBER 1 HEAVY METAL ALBUM OF THE 1970’S 16.04.2026 1t 3min“If you’re gonna pick an album that’s supposed to be the album of the decade…” The Grammy’s have proven over and over to metal fans over the years that their decisions are (more often than not) completely arbitrary and have absolutely zero basis in honor, truth, or reality whatsoever. And if you need to be reminded of this irrefutable fact, just remember who won the Grammy for “Best Metal Performance” in 1989. “This was a little difficult and it was the first time…and there was no science behind this…” Every award show, whether it’s The Grammy’s for the music industry or The Emmy’s for the acting industry, seems to be nothing more than some random selection of whatever artist is deemed popular or worthy enough by an elite few individuals to receive such an esteemed and prestigious award, based on nothing more than pure speculation and industry favoritism. Well, we’ve decided that it’s OUR turn to do the same for metal. Because “it’s OUR award to give…” With that, we proudly present to you The Inaugural Bunkerpoon Awards for Excellence in Metal, to be known henceforth as THE POONYs, an awards show where WE decide (based on our own personal experience and metal knowledge) which artist is worthy of our own, self-important seal of approval, honor, and recognition. Ultimately, we hope that THE POONY AWARDS will become an event of prestigious accolades and glory that everyone in the metal community will attend with greater and greater anticipation and excitement. And given that this is our very first ever POONY AWARDS, we have to start with the decade that has defined everything in metal up to this point: The 1970’s. Understand that with this being our very first ever (ahem, “inaugural”) awards show that the logistics behind our nomination process might seem a bit clunky (and, again, completely random, which is “why those awards shows take so long…”), but this is OUR take and OUR nominations for the artist that will receive the coveted POONY Award for THE NUMBER 1 HEAVY METAL ALBUM OF THE 1970’S. “We’re gonna get better at this…” So break out your Sunday best and the most top shelf relaxers you have in your stash and JOIN US as we launch our first ever, totally random, self-indulgent, heavy metal awards show from the Bunkerpoon Center for Metal Excellence where we select “The Best Heavy Metal Album of the 1970’s” on this, The Metal Nerdery Podcast Awards: THE POONYs: Volume I – The 1970s. #346 - Exodus GOLIATH Album Review 09.04.2026 1t 8minReleased March 20, 2026, GOLIATH, the newest behemoth to emerge from classic thrash masters EXODUS, feels a lot like 1989 but with some other added extras that are a bit different, experimental, and a little off the reservation relative to their earlier work. It also marks the return of Rob Dukes on vocals for the first time since 2010’s Exhibit B: The Human Condition. Loaded with scathing social commentary against the modern philistine monsters of our time, GOLIATH is sure to get the blood & adrenaline pumping and the fists & heads banging with revolutionary glee and righteous vengeance. Amidst all the thrashing, there are also a multitude of brutally heavy moments, shredding twin guitar harmonies, melodic riffs with power metal overtones, and even a string arrangement that, while a bit different than anything they’ve recorded previously, is still 100%, unapologetically EXODUS. Realize the “sad and/but true” fact that “people are getting dumber by the minute”, find out why you should NEVER go out on a boat drunk with a camera phone and talk to strangers, give some thought as to what might be “the most melodic Slayer song”, and prepare yourself for “The POONYs” when you JOIN US as we tackle GOLIATH, the latest metal monstrosity from EXODUS. #344 - EMBERING EFFIGY - OUT OF THE WOODS Album Review 26.03.2026 1t 28min“Let’s keep the dumb fuhqery to a minimum today…” EMBERING EFFIGY, the “Southern Fried Thrash Metal” threesome hailing from the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia are making some noise in venues all across the Southeast with their blistering live shows and their recently released new album, OUT OF THE WOODS, featuring 8 tracks of old school thrash infused with a generous blend of blast beats, high energy punk, filthy breakdowns, and even some old school “mosh parts” for good measure. There’s enough fast stuff, heavy stuff, and sick stuff on this album to give anyone who hears it a complete stank face makeover. “We’ve never had this many inputs before…” We recently had a chance to hang out with EMBERING EFFIGY and do a full playthrough of OUT OF THE WOODS (deep within the insulated walls of Bunkerpoon Studios), including some track by track insights from the band as well as some Q&A about their history, their live shows, and of course the new album and everything that went into making it (along with some ultra hilarious vulgarity that’s too obscene to be mentioned here). “I want a juicy girl…” If you haven’t seen EMBERING EFFIGY live as of yet (or if you ‘blacked out’ only three songs into their set like ‘some people’…), they are definitely one of those bands you must experience extremely LOUD and LIVE, so if you need something to tide you over until you can catch one of their shows, pick up OUT OF THE WOODS and crank it up to 11! “Maybe we should be listening to THAT in the car…instead of KISS.” It’s time to “Make Thrash Dangerous Again” because we’re packed in so “tight and intimate” that whoever is in the middle is “going skiing”. Get your relaxers prepared and get ready to JOIN US for our BEHIND THE METAL local metal showcase with EMBERING EFFIGY as we crank it up a notch and get OUT OF THE WOODS. #343 - SIDE TWO VERSUS SIDE ONE 19.03.2026 47minEver since compact discs came out in the mid-1980s, the concept of SIDE 1 and SIDE 2 on an album sort of fell by the wayside. And with this new quantum leap in technology, the entire process of consuming music began to transform. By the late 80’s and early 90’s, CD sales began outselling vinyl records and cassette tapes, due in large part to convenience and technological innovation, as vinyl records (albums) were limited to a maximum of 20 minutes or so per side and cassette tapes maxed out at around 30 minutes per side. But prior to compact discs, consuming music was (at a minimum) a two-step process which involved inserting the cassette into your tape deck and pressing play or placing the album on your turntable and dropping the needle to begin your music enjoyment experience. With the advent of compact discs, the maximum recording space jumped to 74 minutes, far exceeding the limitations of records and tapes, and bonus: you didn’t have to flip anything over and repeat the process as all of the album tracks were included on one side (so to speak) as one complete, seamless work that systematically eliminated the technologically imposed intermission which required ejecting the cassette or removing the stylus from the album and flipping it over to SIDE TWO, as a CD version of an album quickly became a singular entity devoid of one side or another and just became one complete work (think Reign In Blood on cassette, where both sides are repeated). In the case of a near perfect album, sides didn’t really matter, but what we’ve come to notice over the years is that SIDE TWO would sometimes be superior to SIDE ONE. Granted, this is not by any means an exact science nor is it always a guarantee, but many of the finest albums in metal history have a SIDE TWO that is much better than SIDE ONE. So, with that in mind, we invite you to JOIN US as we go through a few of our favorites to determine whether or not there is any validity to the claim that SIDE TWO IS BETTER THAN SIDE ONE. #342 - Rob Zombie The Great Satan Album Review 12.03.2026 56min“Wait a minute, is she your hall pass? Can we confirm that?” Many folks in certain parts of the world have been calling the United States “The Great Satan” for decades, long before ROB ZOMBIE’s eighth studio album, THE GREAT SATAN, was called that. “…and the first words out of her mouth when she pulls up: ‘Can I inspect your meat?’” Released on 02/27/2026 on Nuclear Blast, the newest studio offering from ROB ZOMBIE, THE GREAT SATAN, has a much heavier, darker, and more aggro feel than past albums, and the album art, the album title, and the album sound all fit perfectly within the “haunted house motif” that has become part of his signature style and sound. “There’s this thing called ‘consent’…” Prepare for an accidental ADHD moment that took us down a rabbit hole into Mr. Zombie’s back catalog of albums and movies, always remember that “a rare steak is not cooked”, get ready for a big shoutout to Yelp, and find out what “PTO” actually stands for (and why you NEVER want to use it for that) when you JOIN US for a dive into the depths of hellbilly infused heavy metal brutality with ROB ZOMBIE and THE GREAT SATAN.
