9 Games We’re Dying to See More of at gamescom 2026 - Beyond 957 19.08.2026 1godz 6minGamescom is rapidly approaching and this week, we run down a handful of games we’re looking forward to seeing more of there: returning faves like The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past DLC, Alien Isolation 2, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, and Mega Man Dual Override, plus No Law, the new FPS from The Ascent’s developers, and of course, some weird or ambitious-looking indies caught our eye including Bad Magpie, Skinface, and Blackwood. In other news, Rockstar’s move to have GTA 6’s gameplay reveal be a Netflix exclusive for 6 hours isn’t that big a deal (in the metaphorical sense, it was definitely a BIG DEAL literally) but we can’t help but wonder how that kind of a marketing move would be received if any other publisher or developer did the same thing. Kingdom Hearts 4 got a bunch of new gameplay shown off at D23, and as two people who don’t particularly like Kingdom Hearts, we don’t have much to say, but we try our best to unpack it. Mostly, it’s just funny that Tetsuya Nomura designed a character with normal sized shoes and a reasonable number of belts. Oh, and we’ve been playing silly video games like Pro Jank Footy, the bonkers Australian–rules football roguelike, and PowerWash Simulator 2’s new Star Wars pack. We also reveal the winner of last weeks poll "Which classic Spider-Man game needs a remaster?". You are never going to guess who won. Beyond! Between Wolverine & Tokon, Marvel Fans With PS5s Are Eatin' Good This Fall - Beyond 956 13.08.2026 1godz 11minThis week, we’re joined our old pal Mitchell Saltzman, who’s the best there is at what he does - and what he does… is play video games with Wolverine in them, apparently. Mitchell breaks down what he learned from several hours of hands-on time with Insomniac’s Wolverine, giving us some details on how the combat feels, stealth sequences, and what we’ll be doing when we’re not fighting, plus whether it feels like the kind of killer app the PS5 has been lacking lately. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is also out, and Mitchell shares his final thoughts from his 9 out of 10 review, explaining why it’s a winning formula, whether you’re a hardcore competitive player or a casual scrub who wants to watch Deadpool do funny poses from other fighting games. In other news, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 sold 8 million copies when it was recently ported to PS4 and PS5 - can this success pave the way for more games stuck on the PS3 getting re-released for modern consoles? We have a few we’d like to revisit – but hey, at least Metal Gear Solid 4 is finally making its way out of PS3-jail. Sony Doubles Down on No Discs, God of War Show Recast Rumors & August’s Weirdest Indies - Beyond 955 05.08.2026 42minLook, it’s a hectic time of year for us, and we’re a little scattered, so this week we’re taking the show on the road and off the beaten path in Big Walk, the new co-op indie puzzle game from House House, the studio behind Untitled Goose Game. It’s an obtuse, meditative social experience that feels somewhere between The Witness, Journey and those “friend slop” games, but a bit less chaotic. Anyway, this week we’re talking about some Sony news - namely, PlayStation finally weighing in on the backlash to the plans to discontinue publishing physical game discs. The God of War show is apparently considering recasting Ryan Hurst with Dave Bautista, who we love, but not as Kratos. Meanwhile, there are some other very cool weird little indie games coming out this month - and we also chat about some new music we’ve been listening to, including deep cut discoveries like Sex Mex, Il Est Vilaine, Bibiza and Avenged Sevenfold’s surprisingly cyberpunk new EP Statica. And, of course, the age old debate: should you buy a 12 foot tall Home Depot skeleton? And is August too soon to have to start thinking about this? Where do people even store those things in the off season? Beyond! Marvel’s Wolverine, God of War Laufey & The Resident Evil Movie Made Our Comic-Con - Beyond 954 29.07.2026 1godz 14minThat’s a wrap on San Diego Comic-Con for us! Joined by our old pal, ex-IGN and current comedian Mike Drucker, we break down our highlights (and uh, other moments) from the dozens of segments IGN produced, as well as some of the gaming-related news out of the show. Zack Cregger’s Resident Evil movie, Insomniac’s Wolverine and God of War Laufey, plus Jada’s time with Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls’ recent beta. We reminisce about some of the best and worst Marvel games from years past, including the Spider-Man and The X-Men in Arcade’s Revenge, as well as the time Spider-Man burned down Dr. Doom’s house. God of War Laufey gets a release date of February 16th of next year, and Sony Santa Monica casually confirmed that another Kratos game is in the works. Y’know, in case the God of War Greek Trilogy Remake wasn’t enough. If you’re in the UK and can make to the Edinburgh Fringe comedy festival, tickets to see Mike Drucker’s Sh*t Arcade live can be purchased here: https://tickets.gildedballoon.co.uk/event/14:7115/And if you can’t, his awesome book Good Game, No Rematch is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble or wherever else books are sold: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1335012699?lv=shuf&channelId=500&plpRedirect=mhFallback Learn more about your ad choices. What is PlayStation Actually Doing Right This Generation? - Beyond 953 15.07.2026 1godz 17minJoin the IGN Discord https://discord.gg/h2T45nkkm6 Is Sony losing its way? This week on Beyond, we try to look at the bright side of the current state of PlayStation, which isn’t exactly easy in light of past few years. From the recently announced plans to kill physical discs to the live-service initiative and the Bungie acquisition to the constantly rising price of hardware amidst a drought of first-party exclusives, there’s a lot to be negative about… but it’s not all bad. We discuss what’s working and what’s definitely not. Plus, we weigh in on Denshattack!, which is like Jet Grind meets Tony Hawk, but with Japanese trains. It’s the kind of weird stuff Sony used to bring us all the time, which is in short supply these days. Meanwhile, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is gorgeous and well made, but not everything we’d hoped for. Plus, we take a look ahead to the PlayStation 6 and reveal what YOU think is the biggest factor in buying a PS6 based on our recent poll results! Sony Killing Physical Games is Killing Our PS6 Hype - Beyond 952 08.07.2026 1godz 16minJoin the IGN Discord https://discord.gg/h2T45nkkm6 It’s been another rough week for the games industry. Most recently, Xbox’s ruthless “restructuring” has left thousands jobless, and shortly before that, Sony announced plans to discontinue the manufacturing of physical PlayStation games starting in 2028, which will likely eliminate more jobs in the long-term, and doesn’t exactly give us hope for what’s planned for PlayStation 6. This console generation kicked off in the middle of a pandemic and the countless issues that caused. Sony made a multi-billion dollar push into the live-service space, which has since backfired, meanwhile, chip shortages due to the AI boom have made gaming more expensive than ever. Now, on top of all that, Sony’s plans to go all-digital are making the walls of its walled garden even higher than ever. So, pardon us if it’s a little hard to get excited about next-gen. Beyond! GTA 6 Is Already Outselling Everything Else - Beyond 951 01.07.2026 1godz 35minJoin the IGN Discord https://discord.gg/h2T45nkkm6 This week on Beyond! Jada Griffin is hosting again and like GTA 6 she is getting away with whatever she wants! She’s joined by Brian Altano and Nick Maillet to discuss all the most recent GTA 6 news concerning whether Playstation is the best place to play it, the potential shortage of consoles ahead of GTA 6’s launch and how GTA 6 is outselling basically everything else already according to early reports on digital storefronts. We then talk about how the PS6 might go Beyond (heh) the living room and what we speculate a hybrid PlayStation might look like. Nick hosts an interview for the cool looking train racing tony hawk hybrid game Denshattack with its developers, before we sprinkle in a few details regarding updates for Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, and Street Fighter 6 from the most recent Capcom Spotlight. Finally we share what game’s we’ve all been playing recently like Mina the Hollower, Tetris Effect, and Abyssus. Everyone’s Celebrating Big Anniversaries Except Sony, What Gives? - Beyond 950 24.06.2026 1godz 7minIt feels like everyone’s celebrating milestone anniversaries… except Sony. The original PlayStation turned 30 two years ago, the PS2 hit 25, and the PS3 is now 20, and all of these brought with them some iconic game franchises. Aside from limited edition consoles and themes, Sony seems to be sitting on the sidelines. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry is going all-in: Resident Evil and Tomb Raider are celebrating 30 years with massive remakes, and Nintendo, Xbox, and SEGA are dusting off their biggest classics for modern audiences. In other news, we’re diving into the massive wave of recent game announcements that actually did get us excited. We’re talking Kingdom Hearts IV, GenATLAS, Mobile Suit Gundam: Rogue Orbit, Resident Evil Veronica, Rayman Legends Retold, and the two Star Wars titles we’ve been waiting years for: Zero Company and Galactic Racer. Who's The Best PlayStation Character (NOT Owned By Sony?) | IGN Live 2026 - Beyond 949 06.06.2026 30minIn a very special IGN Live edition of Beyond, we're deciding which video game character from a non-Sony franchise deserves to be made an honorary PlayStation mascot. Some of the most beloved game characters ever debuted (or found success) on Sony hardware, from Lara Croft and Cloud Stryfe to Leon S. Kennedy and Solid Snake to Pyramid Head and Rayman. And, decades later, many of their respective game franchises are more popular than ever thanks to new installments like Resident Evil Requiem, Tomb Raider: The Legacy of Atlantis, Silent Hill Townfall, Rayman Legends Retold, and the long awaited third part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. So, we're pulling names out of hat, assembling a bracket, and bickering like schoolchildren about who deserves to be an honorary PlayStation character, even if they're just as popular on PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. God of War Laufey, Marvel's Wolverine, Silent Hill Townfall & More! June State of Play - Beyond 948 03.06.2026 45minSony kicked off the summer of gaming with a pretty hefty State of Play. We got first looks at God of War Laufey, a very extended (and pretty violent) look at Marvel's Wolverine, and a ton of other upcoming titles such as Silent Hill Townfall, Phantom Blade Zero, Until Dawn 2, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and a whole lot more. If GTA 6 is Delayed (Again) Here Are Some Backup Plans - Beyond 947 16.05.2026 1godz 4minJoin the official IGN and Podcast Beyond discord! - https://discord.gg/mx62v5pgq GTA 6’s third trailer has not yet dropped as of this recording, which makes the wait until the game’s eventual release in November seem further away than ever. But what happens if it gets delayed, again? Well, luckily there are a ton of awesome new games coming out before then like Wolverine, Blood of Dawnwalker and Phantom Blade Zero later this fall, plus LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight very soon. We talk about some of these games, plus other activities you can do to cope on the off chance that Grand Theft Auto 6 doesn’t drop when we’re expecting it. In other news, we have some questions from our newly minted Discord, asking what we think about such relevant hot-button topics as Saros sales, and its likelihood of getting a PC release, 007 First Light, game studio closures that made us sad, Japan Studio franchises we’d like brought back, plus the video games that need to be reinvented with Muppets. PlayStation Loses Even More Money on Multiplayer - Beyond 946 13.05.2026 1godz 1minThis week, we're talking about some extremely expensive big-ticket items in the world of game development. From Sony's recent financial earnings reporting a $765 million impairment loss (at least partially due to the underperformance of Destiny 2 and this year's Marathon launch) to SEGA's cancellation of its mysterious "Super Game" announced back in 2021, to reports of Grand Theft Auto 6's budget being over a billion dollars. Not all games can be GTA 6, though, and we're skeptical about Sony's continued pursuit of AAA live-service projects, rather than dusting off a few tried-and-true games from the vaults to earn a few bucks off our nostalgia. After all, there's a long list of PS3 games we'd be eager to revisit on PS5 while we're waiting for whatever the next big first-party projects are. Speaking of expensive things, we also unpack some other things that cost over a billion dollars, like the Burj Khalifa, Yankee Stadium, another Star Wars Trilogy, some Avatar movies, or an actual trip to space. 00:00 - Intro 00:40 - Games are Expensive 05:02 - Sony's recent financial earnings reporting a $765 million impairment loss 24:04 - JOIN THE DISCORD! 24:42 - Games are Very Expensive 25:54 - SEGA's cancellation of its mysterious "Super Game" 35:27 - PlayStation should invest into reviving classic games 38:03 - GTA 6’s Development Reportedly Cost $1.5 Billion, Here’s What Else That Can Buy This weeks show is hosted by Max Scoville, Brian Altano, Jada Griffin, and is produced by Nick Maillet. Mortal Kombat 2, Resident Evil & The New Era of Gaming Movies - Beyond 945 07.05.2026 1godz 8minThis week, we’re talking about video game movies again! Specifically, Mortal Kombat 2, which we loved. Resident Evil’s trailer dropped last week, and the internet seems divided on it, but we’re willing to give it a fair shake given director Zach Cregger’s past work, and clear love of the franchise. We dig into what makes a good video game movie, reflecting on the past hits and misses, and looking ahead to a big one: A24’s Elden Ring movie, directed by Alex Garland. In other news, Vampire Crawlers has big sticky hooks and we can’t get enough of it, and Spell Brigade is better with a buddy. 00:00:00 - Intro & Mortal Kombat II Movie Discussion 00:18:51 - Resident Evil Movie Trailer Breakdown 00:46:20 - Vampire Crawlers, Spell Brigade, & Outro Learn more about your ad choices. From Saros to Vampire Crawlers, What Makes a Roguelike We Rogue-Love? - Beyond 944 29.04.2026 1godz 37minAssassin's Creed Black Flag: Resynced is officially real. Can you believe it?! Ubisoft has unveiled the AC Black Flag remake after weeks of leaks, and we're breaking down the full gameplay showcase: what's been remade, what's gone, and what big questions we still need answered before we get our hands on the open-world pirate game. We're also deep in PlayStation leak territory: the Spider-Man face model seems to be teasing Insomniac's next Spider-Man game (or a Venom spinoff?), and Sony Santa Monica's next God of War project is reportedly starring Deborah Ann Woll as Faye, pulling in deities from Chinese, Japanese, and potentially Mayan mythology. Will Marvel’s The Owl appear in either game? We hope not! Then there's Saros. Housemarque's PS5-exclusive cinematic roguelite shooter has gotten its share of reviews, and IGN's 7/10 puts it on the lower end of the critical consensus. We've all played it. The gunplay, the movement, the progression through Carcosa's biomes, all great. But its build variety leaves something to be desired compared to what we love about roguelites. That's got us dissecting what makes games like Vampire Survivors, Balatro, Dead Cells, and Spelunky work so well, and what Saros leaves on the table. Beyond! 00:00 - Intro 01:02 - Assassin's Creed Black Flag: Resynced is officially real 20:44 - Whole Lotta PlayStation Leaks 28:48 - The BEST Spider-Man Villain 32:24 - Saros - A Solid Shooter That Roguelite Fans Will Likely Rogue-love 01:03:39 - Vampire Survivors, Balatro, and More! Is 2026 The Year Hollywood Finally Figures Out Video Game Movies? - Beyond 943 22.04.2026 58minWell, maybe! So far, we’ve had Return to Silent Hill, Iron Lung and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which were varying degrees of successful depending who you ask, but still to come we’ve got the Johnny Cage-forward Mortal Kombat II, Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil, the totally bonkers Street Fighter movie. And, hey, if this isn’t this year, it’s not like video game movie adaptations are slowing down: 2027 has The Legend of Zelda, Helldivers and Sonic The Hedgehog and A Minecraft Movie sequels. 2028, meanwhile, will finally see Call of Duty make its way to the big screen, but more interesting to us is A24’s Elden Ring film. Alex Garland has given us some of our favorite genre media of recent years, between Ex Machinia, Annihilation, Men, Devs, Civil War, and of course, 28 Days Later and 28 Years Later. How will he handle a cinematic tour of The Lands Between? Hard to say, but Nick Offerman, Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw and Jonathan Pryce will be there, so we’re certainly intrigued. Bloodborne’s Getting a Movie, We Have Some Questions - Beyond 942 15.04.2026 1godz 8minA Bloodborne animated feature film is in the works from Sony Pictures and Jacksepticeye, which is a better Bloodborne-related announcement than… no Bloodborne announcement. In any case, we’re stoked no matter what, but we have a lot of questions: what will this movie look like, or sound like? How will it tackle FromSoftware’s infamously dense lore and approach to storytelling in a linear narrative? In other news, Mouse: P.I. For Hire and Pragmata are both out this week, offering extremely different ways to shoot stuff. Mouse is at its best when it leans into throwback slapstick boomer-shooter gameplay, but underwhelms when it veers into detective adventure territory. Meanwhile, Pragmata seems like another banger for Capcom, with great visuals and presentation, but most importantly, really gratifying gameplay that feels good, from combat to basic movement. 00:00 - Intro 00:31 - Jada is BACK! 01:04 - Scan yourself into a PlayStation game...sort of 04:31 - Bloodborne’s Getting a Movie, We Have Some Questions 27:01 - Our Thoughts on Mouse: P.I. How Romeo is a Dead Man Uses Practical Effects To Melt Faces, Suda51 Interview - Beyond 941 07.04.2026 25minThis week Max and Brian are joined by the legendary Goichi Suda, AKA SUDA51, and James Mountain from Grasshopper Manufacture, who’ll be translating! SUDA 51 is the director, designer, writer, and producer behind a ton of memeorable and often times weird (but in the best way possible) games such as No More Heroes, Killer is Dead, and recently Romeo is a Dead Man. If a PS5 Pro is $900, What Does This Mean for PlayStation 6? - Beyond 940 01.04.2026 1godzOnce again, Sony has raised the price of PlayStation hardware, with a PS5 base model selling for $150 more than its 2020 launch price. The PS5 Pro, which had a hefty pricetag to begin with, is now 899.99. Usually, at this point in a console’s life-cycle, hardware is at least half the price it was at launch, but the PS5 has increased by almost a third. So, what does this mean for PlayStation 6? It’s supposedly still a ways off, and really, we can’t argue with that, but it makes us wonder if these current gen prices will come down, or if they’re just paving the way for a $1000+ next-gen console. In other absurd financial news, Sony and Honda’s PlayStation-enabled Afeela electric car has been officially scrapped ahead of its planned release later this year, and Capcom publicly audits the Resident Evil 4 Merchant’s business dealings, which don’t really seem like they’re panning out. Looking Back At The Great PSN Hack, Fifteen Years Later - Beyond 939 25.03.2026 35minNOTE: due to some technical issues, this week’s episode is audio only. After almost 20 years, Sony is reportedly retiring The PlayStation Network’s name and logo. What they’ll call it now is anyone’s guess, but it’s as good an excuse as any to take a look back at the 2011 debacle that led to Sony getting hacked, millions of users having their data compromised, and the PSN being taken offline for almost a month. In other news, Valve made a weird change to Counter Strike 2 that not everyone’s wild about, which has us thinking about how much games are a moving target, from Crimson Desert’s rapid post-launch updates to Fornite’s gradual transformation since its early access days, before it was even a battle royale. Some games we’ve been playing include Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s shiny new PS5 upgrade, Romeo is a Dead Man, Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties, and High on Life 2. Learn more about your ad choices. Is PlayStation The Only “Normal” Console Left? - Beyond 938 18.03.2026 1godz 1minNintendo merged its handhelds and consoles into one device with the Switch, Microsoft loosened the definition of an Xbox to include mobile devices, smart TVs and PCs, and Valve is about to bring PC gaming into the console space with the Steam Machine. Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Project Helix is bridging the gap the other direction, bringing the next-gen Xbox into PC territory instead. In the middle of all this, Sony seems like the only console manufacturer that’s just focused on making consoles the old fashioned way. Will this continue with the PlayStation 6? We’ll have to wait and see. In other news, Sony showed off some upgraded PSSR tech for the PS5 Pro, which subtly improves the graphics of certain games. We’ll happily take that over NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 AI-powered video game makeover technology, which attempts to make games more realistic, but seems to pave over their original appearance. Leon and Grace were already very pretty, this was not necessary. Maybe AI can be used to make that big spider in Resident Evil Requiem less scary? We weigh in on the arachnophobia factor of one of the game’s creepiest crawliest boss fights. It also turns out that theres a Yakuza Live-Action Miniseries Debuting on IGN! Cool.
