  • 127. Are You a Sex Addict? Or Just a Cheater? 15.09.2026 40min
In this episode, I’m joined by Certified Sex Addiction Specialist Dr. Janie Lacy. In this episode, we cover: The difference between a sex addict and a chronic cheater. How the treatment is different for each person depending on why they have been unfaithful. Successful male culture and how women have been objectified How betrayed partners can determine what it means for them if their husband is a chronic cheater rather than a sex addict Dr. Janie Lacy works with professional women who continue to choose emotionally unavailable partners. If you want to explore working with her, you can visit her website here: https://www.janielacy.com/ If you have not yet read my book, I speak to compulsive sexual behavior as a process addiction rather than a sex addiction. My book can be found here on Amazon and the audiobook on Audible: https://a.co/d/0j6eRiQR If you want more information on joining one of my recovery groups, visit my website here: https://successfuladdict.com/
  • 126. Why Sex Addiction Is Different For Successful Men 08.09.2026 18min
The thought processes that successful men are addicted to are different than those of the general population. High-achieving men have developed many skills that help them in business, but can often make sex addiction recovery a bit more complicated. In this episode, I discuss why sex addiction is often different for successful men, and what they will need to do differently if they plan to achieve long-term recovery and avoid relapse. For many high-achievers, their addiction involves seeking attention, risk, excitement, novelty, superiority, power, control, and feeling wanted or desired. Each of these mental processes will need to be addressed in your sex addiction recovery plan. I talk about this in great detail in my book: “The High-Achievers Guide To Sex Addiction Recovery.” You can find it here, both in paper copy and on Audible: https://a.co/d/0j6eRiQR If you are a high-achiever, business owner, executive, or entrepreneur and you are looking for a recovery group full of like-minded men, visit my website here: https://successfuladdict.com/
  • 125. Healing Your Marriage After Sexual Betrayal: The 3 Phases of Relational Recovery 01.09.2026 56min
Healing your marriage after sexual betrayal is a painful, chaotic, and confusing time for couples. The good news is that there are predictable phases that most couples go through along the road to repair. In this episode, I am joined by Matthey and Joanna Raabsmith. They have developed a model that helps couples heal after betrayal.  Their model follows three phases of healing. Each phase requires a different relational dynamic to facilitate connection, safety, and trust. In this podcast episode, we discuss all three in detail to help couples ensure that they are honoring the nuances of each phase. Sex addiction and healing a marriage post-infidelity can be overwhelming. Having a model that you can reference is often very helpful to ensure that you are doing all you can to recover. If you are interested in joining the Raabsmiths' upcoming couples retreat in October, use this link: https://renewingusretreats.com/ I talk about this in great detail in my book: “The High-Achievers Guide To Sex Addiction Recovery.” You can find it here, both in paper copy and on Audible: https://a.co/d/0j6eRiQR If you are a high-achiever, business owner, executive, or entrepreneur and you are looking for a recovery group full of like-minded men, visit my website here: https://successfuladdict.com/
  • 124. If You’re >6 Months Into Sex Addiction Recovery, Listen to This 25.08.2026 15min
If you are more than 6 months into your sex addiction recovery, you should listen to this episode. When men first begin their recovery journey, they have no idea what to do or how this happened. So, why would you assume that you have developed the best recovery and sobriety plan? It’s always a good idea to revisit your recovery plan and make sure that it will work. The sex addiction relapse rate is very high. But it doesn't need to be. In this episode, I will talk about how to reexamine your recovery plan and make sure you’re not missing anything that will cause you to relapse down the road. If you have not yet read my book “The High-Achievers Guide To Sex Addiction Recovery”, you can find it here both in paper copy and on Audible: https://a.co/d/0j6eRiQR If you want more information on joining one of my recovery groups, visit my website here: https://successfuladdict.com/
  • 123. Those Who Label Themselves as an “Addict” Recover Less Quickly 18.08.2026 53min
Research shows that people who label themselves as an “addict” recover less quickly. In this episode, Tyler Patrick from The Therapy Brothers Podcast joins me to talk about identity and how it relates to sex addiction and betrayal recovery. The concept of personal Identity is deep and very difficult to comprehend, mostly because you are always operating from a place of identity. It’s like a fish never knowing what water is because they are always surrounded by it. Despite being difficult to understand, if you want to achieve long-term recovery and avoid relapse, you need get an idea of how you see yourself. This concept applies to sex addicts, betrayed partners, and the couple. Listen to this episode, as Tyler and I will help you peel back the layers of this complex onion called identity. For those who want to access the resource that Tyler mentioned in the podcast, use this link: therapybrothers.ORG/successful-addict I discuss the concept of identity in the recovery chapter of my book. You can find my book here on Amazon and the audiobook on Audible: https://a.co/d/0j6eRiQR If you’re a high-achiever, executive, business professional, or entrepreneur looking for a recovery group tailored to your unique process addiction, go to my website here: https://successfuladdict.com/
  • 122. Many Sex Addicts Are Shaming Themselves By Accident 11.08.2026 16min
Out of all the things I have seen lead to sex addiction relapse, this is the big one: Men shaming themselves by accident.  I get it… when you have done things you never thought that you would. And when you have hurt your wife in ways that will change her forever. It’s easy to beat yourself up. I know I did. But, we know that shame is the #1 killer in sex addiction recovery. So, we need to be careful HOW we beat ourselves up. In this episode, I talk about how to navigate the balance between remorse and shame. I also talk about self-forgiveness and what you need to be cautious of that may lead you to relapse. You cannot shame someone into changing. And you cannot shame yourself into change. Focus on HOW you allowed this to happen and WHY you compromised your integrity. You will get far more out of recovery this way than focusing on shameful behavior. I talk about shame a lot in my book. The High Achiever's Guide to Sex Addiction Recovery: A Proven Blueprint for Successful Professionals to Overcome Sex and Porn Addiction. • 121. Conviction: The Key To Long-Term Sex Addiction Sobriety 04.08.2026 47min
Dayle Brenner and I talk about what we both agree is THE KEY to long-term sex addiction sobriety. Dayle is a certified sex addiction therapist, and she is passionate about creating lasting change. She and I both have no interest in helping men get sober… we want to see them recover. Sex addiction recovery will not work if you are just checking off the boxes. Your recovery needs to become something that you are convicted about. Like entrepreneurship, conviction is what differentiates the average and those who excel. In this episode, we talk about how someone becomes convicted in their sex addiction recovery and where to start if you aren’t yet convicted. If you want to reach Dayle, her website is here: https://www.daylebrennerwild.com/ If you have not yet read my book, I talk a lot about convicted recovery and the steps required to step into it. My book can be found here on Amazon and the audiobook on Audible: https://a.co/d/0j6eRiQR If you want more information on joining one of my recovery groups, visit my website here: https://successfuladdict.com/
  • 120. Full Therapeutic Disclosure: Will It Help Repair Your Marriage After Infidelity? 28.07.2026 22min
Disclosure is one of the most challenging things couples must manage after sexual betrayal. It’s also the most complicated part of the process. For sex addicts, they fear that their wife will leave them once they hear about all of the sexual acting-out behaviors. They often think disclosure will not be helpful, but rather traumatize their wife by filling her head with details and fuel for mental imagery. For partners, they often want the process to accelerate. Waiting another few weeks feels unfair and like torture. It’s also common for them to ask about every little detail in an effort to regain a sense of reality and safety. For disclosure to work, it needs to be done correctly. In this episode, I talk about common questions and misconceptions couples face when heading into disclosure. While I am not a disclosure expert myself, many of my colleagues are excellent at helping couples through it. If you have questions or need a referral, send me an email to roland at successfuladdict.com
  • 119. How To Communicate With a Betrayed Partner In Early Sex Addiction Recovery 21.07.2026 48min
Communication is everything when in the crisis stage following infidelity. One of the biggest pains in early sex addiction recovery is the damage that has been caused to the marriage. Learning how to communicate effectively is key in the first 2 years of sex and porn addiction recovery.  Betrayed partners need a sense of safety and stability. Because trust is gone, communication is all they have to stand on. If you cannot communicate in a way that feels safe and reassuring, you will certainly experience far more relational stress in the first 2 years. In this episode, I interview Debbie McRae (certified sex addiction therapist). Debbie specializes in working with betrayed partners and couples healing from infidelity. We talk about the most common communication mistakes we see in betrayal recovery and how you can avoid them. If you want to get in contact with Debbie, you can find her website here: https://www.debbiemcraecounseling.com/ If you are a business professional, executive, entrepreneur, or business owner looking for a group full of like-minded men to connect with in recovery, visit my website here to apply: www.successfuladdict.com
  • 118. The “Root Cause” Myth of Your Sex Addiction 14.07.2026 16min
The concept of the “root cause” is a bit oversimplified. Sex addiction is a complex problem that originates from many aspects of your life. In this episode, I help men grasp the size of compulsive sexual behavior and how complex recovery really is. Complex does not mean difficult… But it does mean that you will need to take this seriously if you want to achieve lasting recovery. For the married men listening to this, trust is off the table after you betray your wife sexually. You will need to prove to her that you know how to prevent this from happening again. At the end of the episode, I give men some ways that they can help uncover the complexities of their process addiction so that they can create an effective recovery plan. If you have not yet read my book, I spend most of it helping men uncover the “why” behind their sexual acting out. You can find it here on Amazon and on Audible: https://a.co/d/0j6eRiQR
  • 117. When Religion Harms Sex Addiction Recovery And How To Avoid It 07.07.2026 35min
While faith is often one of the most powerful tools in sex addiction recovery, it can very easily get in the way. It's been shown that people who grow up in a strict religious household struggle more with sex and porn addiction. This is primarily due to purity culture and the shame that clouds human sexuality. Humans are sexual beings. We enjoy sex, and it’s unhealthy to abstain from it. Shame and guilt drive secrecy, which allows compulsive sexuality to thrive. When misinterpreted, religion can shame perfectly healthy sexual behaviors. In this episode, I’m joined by Dr. Don Zaksek. We talk about the harm that misinterpreted religion can cause clients in sex addiction recovery. We also clarify what healthy faith looks like and how it can be used as a powerful sobriety tool. If you enjoyed this episode and want to learn more about Dr. Zaksek, you can find him here at Integrative Psychology: https://www.integrativea2.com/our-staff.htmlI have a ton of respect for Don and trust him with my clients in recovery. • 116. Sex Addiction: Excuses Vs Ownership 30.06.2026 17min
Does your sex addiction and pornography use often stem from childhood and your teenage years? Yes. And, you need to make sure you are still taking ownership of your actions today. In the end, you did what you did, and you chose to hide it, lie about it, and repeat it. Too often, I see men who get lost in the recovery plan, recovery definitions, and the betrayal healing steps. The result can be a lack of ownership. I will tell you one thing I know for sure about sex addiction recovery… ownership of your actions is key if you want to achieve lasting recovery and earn back your wife's trust. In this episode, I share a lesson I learned that changed my own sex addiction recovery. It also ended up taking our marriage in a much more positive direction. Ownership and acceptance can be a challenging thing to do on your own. You will need a group of guys to call you out and hold you accountable. This is one of the biggest benefits of peer support in sex addiction recovery. If you have yet to read or listened to my book, you can find it here on Amazon and Audible: https://a.co/d/06J78kat
  • 115. “It’s just porn”, “It was all virtual”, “We never had sex”: Want to Hear The Truth? 23.06.2026 47min
Sex addicts in recovery will often compare their compulsive behaviors to those of other men they meet in recovery. They will say things like: “Mine wasn’t that bad” “It was just a few times” “We never had sex” “It was all virtual” “It’s just porn” There are a few problems with statements like this. It’s going to hurt your recovery Comparing yourself to others is likely a big part of your recovery and needs to stop Your wife couldn't care less what other men are doing Recovery is about honesty, integrity, and authenticity. It’s about acting in a way that you wouldn’t hide from others. In this episode, Chris Burns and I talk about these comparative statements and the truth behind them. Chris is a certified sex addiction therapist and the founder of Re-write Recovery Counseling. He and I both have a passion for helping men live in integrity with their values. • 114. Roland’s Addiction Story 16.06.2026 39min
Despite speaking about most of my behaviors over the years. I’ve never shared my sex addiction story on this Podcast before. In this episode, I walk listeners through my journey front to back. My childhood and how things led me to acting out. My early sexual acting-out behaviors and how they evolved. The events that caused me to develop my specific process addiction in my adulthood My discovery process While I’m quite open about my behavior. This was still a scary episode to record. Our world is not ready to accept sex addicts as they are. There is a ton of judgment and, oftentimes, social consequences if people find out about your past behavior. I’ve lived those consequences. I’ve been judged and continue to be judged. I’ve lost friends, businesses, and opportunities because of how public I’ve been about my past. It sucks. Many people won’t let you have this problem. And, that’s not fair. But my hope is that, by being open and sharing my story, the world will one day stop looking at us like freaks and perverts. I always encourage men to be honest about this, but I do want to prepare you for the potential consequences of doing so. For the betrayed partners who listened to this episode, thank you for taking the time to hear my story. I know I speak on behalf of all men in recovery when I say: Thank you for giving us a second chance. We don’t deserve it after what we’ve put you through.
  • 113. What Your Wife Actually Means: “You’re Not Doing Enough Recovery Work” 09.06.2026 56min
Betrayed Partners often say, “You’re not doing enough in your sex addiction recovery.” There’s a reason why betrayed partners say this, and you need to understand how to answer this question if you hope to rebuild their trust after infidelity. In this episode, Tiffany Comiskey and I talk about what is going on in the mind of both parties (the sex addict and the betrayed partner) when this question is asked. Tiffany is a certified coach who works with couples, the betrayed, and the betrayer. In this podcast, we talk about how men should respond when their sex addiction recovery work is being questioned.  If you are interested in working with Tiffany, you can visit her website here: https://www.hopecfl.com/coach-tiffany If you have not yet read my book, I outline what is required to be in good recovery in great detail. You can find it on both Amazon and Audible here: https://a.co/d/0iOg7NlH
  • 112. Do You Trust Yourself to Stay Sober? Should You? 02.06.2026 10min
Do you trust yourself to stay sober? I don’t, and this podcast explains why. I do believe I will find a way to maintain my sobriety from sex addiction. And, I believe you can too. But I’m nervous living in the world we live in with my personality. High-achieving men have their hands full. Successful male culture in 2026 does not seem to value integrity. The message is, “Never settle! And, get ahead at all costs.” For this reason, you need to keep your head on a swivel. It’s okay not to trust yourself. It’s actually in integrity to say such a thing if it’s true. In this podcast, I’ll explain how to manage this in your own sex addiction recovery. If you haven't read my book yet, I discuss this concept in greater detail. You can find it on Amazon or Audible here:https://a.co/d/04GxERiP
  • 111. Integrity is Key to Recovery and Healing Your Marriage After Sexual Betrayal 22.05.2026 50min
It’s no mystery that integrity is one of the most important pieces in both sex addiction recovery and healing your marriage after infidelity. But what is integrity, and how do you repair the damage caused after cheating? In this episode, I’m joined by one of my favorite experts in the field of sex addiction and betrayal trauma. Dr. Crystal Hollenbeck is an author and Certified Sex Addiction Therapist. Crystal and I talk about integrity and the effects of violating it will have on a marriage. For those interested in reading Crystal's new book, “Betrayal Trauma Anger | You're not Crazy...You're Angry...And You Should Be!: How to Process Complex Anger While Healing from the Impact of Sexual Betrayal” You can find the book here on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FN6P62K8 If you’re struggling with sex addiction or compulsive sexual behavior and you have not yet read my book, you can find it here: https://a.co/d/0dWg1hCs
  • 110. The Sex Addiction Relapse Rate is HIGH. Why Aren’t We Talking About This? 12.05.2026 19min
The sex addiction relapse rate is believed to be between 67 and 80 percent at 5 years. That means only 20-30% of men can avoid relapse. Why aren’t we talking more about this?! In this episode, I go on a bit of a rant. And, it’s likely to offend some people. That was not my intent. My intent was to be helpful. Some people will hear this rant and have had a totally different experience from what I describe. That’s okay. Skip this episode. However, I get on dozens of phone calls each month with men to whom this does apply. They describe the frustrations with their recovery experience and finding like-minded men to connect with. This episode is for them. If you are a high performer looking for a group of like-minded men to connect with in recovery, visit my website. I run small recovery groups of 10 men. They range from business owners, lawyers, doctors, sales professionals, to professional athletes. Fill out an application at www.successfuladdict.com
  • 109. Healing Your Marriage After Infidelity: The 3 Phases Of Betrayal Recovery 05.05.2026 1godz 2min
Healing your marriage after sexual betrayal can be a mess. Sometimes it feels like you have a plan… other times it feels like you have no plan at all. In this episode, Tesa Saulmon (Certified Sex Addiction Therapist) outlines a clear 3-phase plan that can help. Betrayal trauma recovery is complex. Add that to a sex addict in recovery, and you have quite the challenge. It’s important to use a framework so that your marriage can stay on track. Tesa uses the framework created by Joanna and Matthew Raabsmith to help couples heal after sexual betrayal. In this episode, she explains the 3 phases and how to navigate each one. If you would like to contact Tesa Saulmon, you can find her website here: https://www.roottobloomtherapy.com/ If you’re a high achiever, executive, or entrepreneur and you have not yet read my book, you can find it and the audiobook here on Amazon: https://a.co/d/0iOe8wNU
  • 108. Is Sex Addiction Real? What if You’re Just a Cheater? 28.04.2026 15min
I’m not a big fan of the term “sex addiction.” While some men fall into this category, a lot of men don’t. Therefore, calling any guy who has been unfaithful multiple times an “addict” is not necessarily accurate. This matters when you’re in recovery, as treating an addict who isn’t an addict will not work.  In fact, it typically backfires and results in relapse. I believe this is why we see such a high rate of relapse. Not because sex addiction is hard to recover from, but because men are not getting the recovery that they actually need. It’s also my belief that this is why many betrayed partners often feel that their husbands are “not in good recovery.”  I think that betrayed partners sense a lack of change in the areas that they feel are responsible for their husbands' acting out. While many men find this frustrating (I know I did), I wonder if these ladies are onto something? In this episode, I talk about the difference between an addict and a chronic cheater and what needs to be done differently in recovery. If you don’t resonate with the term “sex addict,” you’re not alone. While each of my recovery groups has 1 or 2 sex/porn addicts, most of the men in my program don’t meet the diagnostic criteria of “addiction.” If you want to dive further into this, check out my book on Amazon or Audible. The book is written from a process addiction approach rather than your typical sobriety/abstinence approach. Here is the link to my book: https://a.co/d/01M8659n
