Late-Diagnosed ADHD, Perimenopause, and Reclaiming Your Power in Midlife 16.09.2026 45minToday Jessica talks with Lisa Barwise about late-diagnosed ADHD, midlife transformation, and what happens when perimenopause, burnout, and self-understanding collide.Lisa shares how years of being the “healthiest lazy person you know” eventually gave way to a diagnosis that helped explain so much of her life, and why self-compassion mattered more than trying to fix herself. This conversation also explores the links between ADHD and perimenopause, the meaning of armor weight, the power of grace, and how women can move from survival mode into a new season of purpose and choice.Inside this episode:How Lisa slowly realized ADHD fit her lived experienceWhy she prefers explanation over excuse when it comes to diagnosisWhat “armor weight” means and how it shows up in midlifeHow perimenopause can intensify ADHD symptoms and stressWhy consistency looks different when you work with your energy instead of against itHow grace and self-compassion can support real changeWhy midlife can be a powerful time of reinvention, not declineYou can learn more about Lisa and her work at her website, follow her on Instagram, or see her on YouTube.Your Lab Kit:Track your energy, not your ideal.Practice the "grace check."Shorten the bounce back.----------------------------------------------------------------------The ADHD Alchemy Podcast is where bright, sensitive women finally stop masking and start thriving—with clarity, confidence, and shameless potential. We’re sharing real stories that help us turn friction into flow, liability into leverage, and resistance into rhythm. Late-Diagnosed ADHD in High-Achieving Women: Masking, Grief, and Reclaiming Your Brain 09.09.2026 37minWhat if the reason life feels harder than it “should” isn’t a personal failure—but a different way your brain works? In this episode, Jessica sits down with licensed mental health counselor Amelia Howard to explore the deeply layered experience of late-identified ADHD in high-achieving women. Together, they unpack the hidden cost of competence, the emotional toll of masking, and the grief that can surface when you finally understand your brain.Amelia shares her personal journey of recognizing ADHD in her 40s—after years of success, leadership, and “holding it all together”—and how that realization reshaped both her life and her clinical work. This conversation goes beyond surface-level ADHD traits and dives into the emotional realities: exhaustion that rest can’t fix, the pressure to appear “fine,” and the invisible labor of holding everything together. They also explore the turning point—from asking “What’s wrong with me?” to “What do I need?”—and how self-compassion, support, and small strategic changes can create a more sustainable way of living and working. If you’ve ever felt capable on the outside but overwhelmed on the inside, this episode offers clarity, validation, and a new way forward.Connect with Amelia at her website, her email, Facebook or Instagram. ADHD, Motherhood & the Myth of “Normal”: Redefining Disability, Rest, and Self-Advocacy with Gabriella Mooney 02.09.2026 44minWhat if the problem isn’t you… it’s the world you’ve been trying to fit into?In this conversation, Gabriella Mooney shares what happened when her son’s ADHD diagnosis cracked something open in her—and how it led her to finally recognize her own brain. We go beyond the usual ADHD talking points and into something deeper: the quiet accommodations she was already making, the exhaustion of motherhood layered with a constantly-on brain, and the complicated relationship so many women have with rest.Gabby brings a perspective I don’t hear often—and deeply respect. She talks about ADHD as a disability, not as a limitation, but as a reflection of a world that isn’t built for different kinds of brains. Whether or not you use that language, her framing will challenge you in the best way.We also talk about:The “reverse masking” happening at home vs. schoolWhy rest feels so loaded (and why five minutes can trigger guilt)The cycle of burnout, recovery, and learning to say noHow community becomes a nervous system regulator—not just supportThe long, ongoing process of self-acceptanceThis is not a neat, tied-up conversation. It’s honest, nuanced, and real—just like the experience of living with ADHD.If you’ve ever felt like you should be able to handle more… or wondered why everything feels harder than it “should”… this one will land. And if you take nothing else from this episode, take this:You are allowed to need what you need—without guilt.Your Lab KitThe 5 Minute BoundarySomatic reset and guilt check-inIt can wait.Get in touch with Gabriella:Instagram: @pantsoff (Gabriella Mooney)ATL Free Fair: https://www.atlfreefair.comATL Free Fair on social media (Instagram/Facebook): @atlfreefair----------------------------------------------------------------------The ADHD Alchemy Podcast is where bright, sensitive women finally stop masking and start thriving—with clarity, confidence, and shameless potential. We’re sharing real stories that help us turn friction into flow, liability into leverage, and resistance into rhythm. Is ADHD Really Neurodivergent? Rethinking Neurodiversity and “Normal” Brains 28.08.2026 5minIs ADHD really “neurodivergent” — and if so, what exactly is it diverging from?In this short solo episode of ADHD Alchemy, Jessica questions the idea that there is one “normal” kind of brain and everything else is a deviation from it.What if neurodiversity isn’t an exception to the rule, but the rule itself?Jessica digs into the meaning of normal, the biological variation found throughout the living world, and the possibility that different kinds of brains are not errors or anomalies, but natural variations that have persisted for a reason. She explores questions like:Why do we assume there is one standard human brain? Is ADHD actually outside the norm, or is it one expression of the incredible variation in human brains? Is neurodivergence better understood as part of neurodiversity, rather than a departure from “normal”?And what happens when we stop treating average as synonymous with normal? This is a short, thought-provoking episode about ADHD, neurodiversity, neurodivergence, brain differences, and what it really means to be “normal.”The invitation is simple: What if ADHD isn’t a divergence from “normal” at all? What if a wide variation in human brains IS actually normal — and ADHD is simply one expression of that diversity? What do you think?----------------------------------------------------------------------The ADHD Alchemy Podcast is where bright, sensitive women finally stop masking and start thriving—with clarity, confidence, and shameless potential. We’re sharing real stories that help us turn friction into flow, liability into leverage, and resistance into rhythm. How Movement Rewires the ADHD Brain: Exercise, Emotional Regulation, and Self-Trust 26.08.2026 33minWhat if movement isn’t just “good for you”—but one of the most powerful tools for regulating an ADHD brain? In this episode, I sit down with Emmy Rousseau, transformational speaker, fitness instructor, and fellow Intensati leader, to explore the profound connection between movement and the mind. We talk about Emmy’s late ADHD realization, the hidden shame of being a high-achieving woman who looked “fine” on the outside while struggling internally, and why movement has become one of her most reliable tools for focus, emotional regulation, and presence. We also dig into the science-backed "magic" of dance, cardio, affirmations, and mindfulness—and why combining them creates something even more powerful than the sum of its parts. If you’ve ever noticed your brain gets quieter when your body gets moving, this conversation will make you feel deeply seen.Inside this episode, we cover:Why so many high-achieving women with ADHD go undiagnosed for yearsThe shame that builds when others see competence but you feel chaosHow movement supports dopamine, focus, and neuroplasticityWhy dance may be uniquely powerful for ADHD brainsWhat makes Intensati different from traditional workoutsHow body sensations can help you catch emotional dysregulation earlierWhy your intuition may know what works before science confirms itLearn more about Emmy and her work at Trinity Transformations and connect with her on Instagram and FacebookYour Lab Kit:Do a 5-minute mood-movement reset.Practice the body check-in during emotional moments.Pair movement with identity-based affirmation.----------------------------------------------------------------------The ADHD Alchemy Podcast is where bright, sensitive women finally stop masking and start thriving—with clarity, confidence, and shameless potential. We’re sharing real stories that help us turn friction into flow, liability into leverage, and resistance into rhythm. Late-Diagnosed ADHD, Nervous System Awareness, and Learning to Pause 19.08.2026 3minToday Jessica talks with Nicole Hope, author of "Calm Is Power," about ADHD, stress, and the surprising power of learning to listen to the body.Nicole shares how years of anxiety, overwork, and physical burnout eventually led her to a deeper understanding of nervous system regulation, behavior, and what true calm can actually look like. This conversation also explores the connection between body awareness and decision-making, the overlap between ADHD and stress, and why self-knowledge can create more choice, clarity, and ease in everyday life.Inside this episode:How Nicole moved from overwhelm into a deeper understanding of her bodyWhy stress often shows up physically before it becomes obvious mentallyWhat “behavior intelligence” means and why it mattersHow body awareness can improve relationships and daily decision-makingWhy the morning is the best time to check in with your nervous systemHow ADHD brains benefit from simple, accessible practices instead of pressureWhy pause, not perfection, is the foundation of real changeThis conversation is a powerful reminder that calm isn’t about eliminating stress or getting everything “right”—it’s about learning to notice what’s happening in your body and creating a little more space to choose what comes next. Nicole’s insights offer a practical, compassionate way to better understand ourselves, especially for ADHD brains that can spend so much time pushing through. Is ADHD a Superpower? My Honest Take. 09.08.2026 8minPlot twist: today it’s just me.Several recent guests have described ADHD as a superpower, and listeners who know me well have asked why I didn’t correct them. The short answer is that there was nothing to correct. If calling ADHD a superpower helps someone understand and embrace their experience, I’m not going to take that away from them. But the word doesn’t work for me. Growing up undiagnosed, I heard that I had so much potential, if only I could focus, apply myself, or stop making careless mistakes. “Superpower” can accidentally add to that pressure—and it can make the very real struggles of ADHD feel invisible. So here’s my hot take: don’t yuck someone else’s yum. If “superpower” works for you, rock on. If it doesn’t, you’re safe with me, too. This is a brief solo episode and a bit of an experiment. ADHD in Women: Emotional Regulation, Justice Sensitivity, and Building a Business That Fits Your Brain 05.08.2026 29minWhat does ADHD look like in women who were labeled “smart but not applying themselves”? In this episode with Kim Steen, we explore late-diagnosed ADHD, emotional dysregulation, justice sensitivity, time blindness, task paralysis, and entrepreneurship. You’ll hear how interest-based nervous systems shape school performance, why impulsivity can fuel small business success, and how movement supports focus and regulation. We also discuss ADHD and shame, family dynamics, rejection sensitivity, connection needs, and the difference between social media interaction and real human contact. This episode highlights both the challenges and strengths of ADHD in women — especially for moms, business owners, and highly sensitive people. So many women with ADHD grew up hearing the same message: You’re smart. You just need to try harder. In this conversation, we unpack what happens when a bright, curious, justice-driven child grows up without knowing she has an interest-based nervous system. We explore the grief of late diagnosis, the relief of finally understanding your brain, and the complicated emotions that come with both. You’ll hear about emotional regulation and what it actually looks like in real life — the flushed face, the anxious chest, the pause before replying. We talk about justice sensitivity, impulsivity, and why asking “why?” was often labeled as talking back instead of curiosity. This episode also highlights ADHD strengths in entrepreneurship — risk-taking, creativity, openness, and the ability to make people feel seen. There’s an honest look at time management struggles, task paralysis, single parenting, shame patterns in family systems, and the deep need for authentic, in-person connection. At its core, this conversation is about creating spaces — in business and in life — where people feel accepted exactly as they are.Learn more about Kim's work at Intown Tumbling (Atlanta, GA) here. ADHD Systems That Actually Work: How High Performers Build Structure Without Shame 22.07.2026 27minToday, Jessica talks to Jordan Barker—tech leader, mom of two, and emerging coach—about what it really looks like to work with an ADHD brain instead of constantly fighting it.Diagnosed in early childhood, Jordan brings a rare perspective: she’s spent her life not just aware of ADHD, but actively designing systems that allow her to thrive in high-performance environments like Microsoft and Azure. But this isn’t a conversation about rigid productivity hacks or “fixing” yourself. It’s about something much deeper:👉 How to trust your brain👉 How to reduce cognitive load👉 And how to build systems that actually support your life (instead of becoming another thing you fail at)You’ll also hear a powerful reframe that might completely shift how you relate to your thoughts:You can’t control your first thought—but you can control your second. In this episode, we explore:Why ADHD can feel like a “deficiency” in childhood—but a superpower in adulthoodThe hidden cost of thinking faster than everyone else (and how to bring people with you)What “systems” really mean—and why they’re essential for ADHD brainsHow to reduce cognitive load by separating thinking from doingWhy systems break (and how to rebuild without spiraling into shame)The difference between reacting to your life vs. leading itWhy “editing” is easier than starting from scratch—and how to use that to your advantageIf you’ve ever thought, “I shouldn’t need this much structure just to function,” this episode will feel like a deep exhale.Connect with Jordan BarkerWebsite: https://www.jordanbarkercoaching.comEmail: [email protected] works with high-performing individuals who are ready to stop reacting to life—and start leading it.Your Lab KitThe "Past You has your back" experimentFirst thought/second thought resetBare minimum system----------------------------------------------------------------------The ADHD Alchemy Podcast is where bright, sensitive women finally stop masking and start thriving—with clarity, confidence, and shameless potential. We’re sharing real stories that help us turn friction into flow, liability into leverage, and resistance into rhythm. Late ADHD Diagnosis in Women: Misdiagnosis, Self-Advocacy, and Learning to Work With Your Brain 08.07.2026 43minWhat if the thing you’ve been told is depression… isn’t the full story? In this episode, we talk with Mindi Alexander about what it’s like to finally recognize ADHD as an adult — especially after years of feeling misunderstood, misdiagnosed, and overwhelmed by treatments that never quite addressed the real problem. Our guest shares her journey through autoimmune illness, multiple specialists, and a growing frustration with being prescribed more and more medications without deeper questions being asked. Eventually, she trusted her intuition enough to push for answers — and discovering ADHD changed everything. We talk about:Why ADHD in women is often misdiagnosed as depression or anxietyThe experience of being dismissed by clinicians when something feels “off”What it takes to advocate for yourself in the healthcare systemThe emotional relief of finally having an explanationWhy ADHD symptoms can shift throughout life stagesThe painful cycle of organizing perfectly… only to watch things unravel againObject permanence and everyday ADHD moments (like losing things already in your hand)The guilt and mental load of balancing work, family, and entrepreneurshipWhy ADHD brains often struggle to shut down at nightHow intentional transition rituals can help shift from work mode to home modeRejection sensitivity and the tendency to take small signals personallyWhy ADHD doesn’t mean you’re broken — it means you need different systemsWe also explore the courage it takes to start a passion business later in life while navigating ADHD, health challenges, and the emotional weight of wanting everything to work.If you’ve ever wondered whether your diagnosis tells the whole story…If you’ve felt dismissed by professionals who didn’t fully hear you…Or if you’re learning how to work with your brain instead of fighting it…This conversation will remind you that your intuition matters — and advocating for yourself can change everything.Reach Mindi on Facebook and Instagram. How Neurodivergent Trauma Shapes Relationships, Time Blindness, and Self-Trust 01.07.2026 38minWhat if the hardest parts of ADHD aren’t about focus or productivity — but about relationships, shame, and feeling safe with other people? In this episode with Harris Eddie Hill, we explore how neurodivergent brains are shaped by early relational experiences, especially when childhood includes chronic criticism, misunderstanding, or unmet emotional needs. You’ll hear why ADHD and autistic children receive significantly more negative feedback than their peers, and how that erodes trust, belonging, and self-confidence over time.We talk about relational trauma, attachment patterns, and why neurodivergent adults often end up in one-sided friendships or unstable relationships — even after years of insight and talk therapy. There’s also a deep dive into time perception, time blindness, and why being late has nothing to do with disrespect and everything to do with dopamine, stress, and nonlinear thinking. This conversation reframes hyperfocus, curiosity, and self-advocacy as strengths — not flaws — and offers a compassionate path toward asking for accommodations, trusting your nervous system, and building relationships that actually fit your brain.Contact Harris and the Centre for Childhood Trauma HealingYour Lab Kit:Redefine the real problem.Ask for support that suits you.Let curiosity lead the way.----------------------------------------------------------------------The ADHD Alchemy Podcast is where bright, sensitive women finally stop masking and start thriving—with clarity, confidence, and shameless potential. We’re sharing real stories that help us turn friction into flow, liability into leverage, and resistance into rhythm. Why Generic Advice Fails Neurodivergent Brains (and What Actually Helps Instead) 10.06.2026 21minIf you’ve ever followed well-meaning advice and still felt stuck, broken, or misunderstood — this episode is for you.In this conversation with writer Jeanette Smith, we unpack why most advice is built for the “average” brain, and why that model breaks down for neurodivergent thinkers. We explore how ADHD, bipolar disorder, and other overlapping diagnoses can complicate communication — especially in writing, work, and relationships — and how easily intent gets misread when people don’t understand how your mind works. One of the central ideas in this episode is the critical difference between advice and feedback. Advice is generic and impersonal. Feedback is responsive, specific, and rooted in you. That distinction alone can change how you ask for help, how you collaborate, and how you stop internalizing shame when something doesn’t work.We also talk about masking, hyperfocus, determination, creativity, and the permission to follow whimsy — not as a distraction, but as a source of clarity and strength. This episode is about learning to advocate for your brain, stop forcing yourself into systems that don’t fit, and start asking for the kind of support that actually works.Connect with Jeanette:Website LinkedIn InstagramYour Lab Kit:The Advice AuditAsk for feedback, not fixes.Build a "brain disclaimer".----------------------------------------------------------------------The ADHD Alchemy Podcast is where bright, sensitive women finally stop masking and start thriving—with clarity, confidence, and shameless potential. We’re sharing real stories that help us turn friction into flow, liability into leverage, and resistance into rhythm. When Your Brain Is “Too Much”: ADHD, Chronic Illness, Shame, and Learning to Trust Yourself 27.05.2026 31minWhat happens when a “fancy brain” collides with chronic illness, medical trauma, and a world that keeps demanding simplicity from someone inherently complex? In this deeply human conversation, I sit down with attorney-turned-disability advocate Alisa Aczel to talk about late-diagnosed neurodivergence, shame, chronic conditions, intuition, and the emotional exhaustion of trying to explain a life that doesn’t fit neatly into anyone else’s boxes.Alisa shares what it was like growing up believing she was “too much,” navigating ADHD alongside complex medical conditions including Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and learning — slowly and imperfectly — to trust herself again after years of being dismissed by systems that were never designed for complexity. We also explore:Why neurodivergent women often internalize shame long before diagnosisThe overlap between ADHD, chronic illness, trauma, and medical gaslightingThe hidden grief of untapped potentialWhy simplifying complex people can become its own form of harmHow travel creates movement, perspective, connection, and vitality for neurodivergent brainsThe tension between uncertainty and trustWhat it means to stop forcing yourself into someone else’s version of “normal”This episode is honest, layered, funny, painful, hopeful, and deeply validating for anyone who has ever felt like they were simultaneously “too much” and not enough. And woven throughout the conversation is a reminder I think many women desperately need to hear:You are not failing because you are complex. You may simply need systems, support, and environments that actually honor how your brain and body work.If today’s episode resonates, download the free Decision Filter tool mentioned in the intro.
