  I used to hear a verse like this and immediately translate it into a strategy. How do we get more people under the sound. How do we fill the room. How do we make sure the glory has a path. And look, rooms matter. Sound matters. Somebody has to show up and open the door. I'm not arguing against any of that.But this verse will not let you make yourself the water. The earth gets filled, and you are not the filling. You may be a cup somebody drinks from on the way. You may be a ditch that carries runoff for a season. You are not the sea. Which is a relief if you'll take it that way, because if the earth being filled depends on your next thirty days of content, your body already knows that math doesn't close.Anchored in Habakkuk 2:14.   You're up, and you don't feel much of anything about it yet. Not discouraged exactly. Just even.Most people know Lamentations 3:23. Not many know what comes right before it. This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. He doesn't wake up with hope, he goes and gets it. Twenty verses earlier he says his strength has perished along with his expectation from the Lord, and nothing in the chapter takes that back. Then he deliberately calls something to mind, and hope follows the recalling, in that order. And what he reaches for isn't a promise about how it turns out.   I used to debate my old pastor about our biggest weekend of the year. He'd say let's do it bigger and better, and I'd say okay, but why? What's the purpose? I know a lot of churches where that's the whole motto, and what happens inevitably is you burn out your people. It's never let's hire more people. It's always how do we do bigger and better with the same budget and the same people.The peoples labor for the fire, and the nations weary themselves for vanity. They didn't fail. They got tired building something that wasn't going to hold. And no black and white here: the woe isn't on building. Churches should do big things.   There's a photo I use sometimes from a program I did years back, and there's a Guitar Hero screen on the back wall. We played Guitar Hero, the whole room. I picked the photo because I needed a photo and I put it up without thinking about it. Some of the comments are not happy about it at all, and I've started to enjoy watching people argue.Habakkuk 2:11 is one verse and it does the whole job. The stone cries out of the wall and the beam answers it. The building testifies, not the people in it, and it's a conversation the structure has with itself about how it got built. The house is the witness and nobody called it to the stand. Whatever you're building will keep saying something after you stop explaining it.Anchored in Habakkuk 2:11.   I got a sweet delay pedal about ten years ago and it was a big old deal for us. I downloaded every timeline preset off the church site and I was going to dial it all in. I was just excited to have the new toy. My nest was nine inches wide and it sat on a pedalboard.There's a phrase at the end of Habakkuk 2:10 that almost nobody preaches. You have sinned against your soul. Not against the people, against your soul. The cost of building your own small kingdom is real for everybody underneath you, and the verse says so. But the first casualty in the sentence is you. He set his nest on high to be delivered from the hand of evil, and the building is what got him.Anchored in Habakkuk 2:9-10.   Sunday mornings at 6:30 I used to text the worship leader, sorry man, I'm out. It didn't bother me even a little. I was one of three guitarists, nobody had cast any vision to me, and I knew I was just the guitar player. Then I became the guy who gets the text.Habakkuk 2:8 sounds like karma and it isn't. Karma is a system. This is a sentence about what people do: the remnant of the peoples, the ones left over, the survivors of what you did. They don't get organized, they just eventually get their turn. And usually they don't even mean it as payback. They're doing what somebody taught them was normal.Anchored in Habakkuk 2:8.   I served for free. A lot. Years of it, and I got a job out of it, so it worked. But now that I'm the leader it's really hard to recommend that's how you go about doing ministry.Something in Habakkuk 2:6 changes who's talking, and most people read past it. God doesn't say the woes. The nations do. Verse six hands the microphone to everybody who got run over, and what they take up is a taunting proverb, a song about the man who plundered them.   Somebody's going to sing over you this morning, and it won't be the congregation.Don't let your hands be weak. Zephaniah 3:16-17 is said to people with something to hold, and then it says what God does: he rejoices over you with joy, he calms you in his love, he rejoices over you with singing. The room is already being sung over before your first note. You're joining something that started before you got there.   There are shirts in my closet from a version of church I don't do anymore.Habakkuk 2:5 is the last thing God says about the Chaldean before the woes begin. Wine is treacherous. He doesn't stay home, he enlarges his desire like Sheol, he heaps up all peoples and none of it fills him. Proverbs says Sheol is never satisfied and neither are a person's eyes. Ryan confesses the big attractional years, the shirts he still owns, and how much easier it is to measure eighteen singers on a stage than anything that matters. Last week was the net, the method.   Habakkuk 2:4 | The Righteous Will Live by His Faith 10.09.2026 3мин

  Hundreds of people in a room, all of them singing, and I walked out sure I'd seen God move.Habakkuk 2:4 is quoted three times in the New Testament and it cracked Luther open, and the prophet wrote it while still waiting for God to answer his question. Don't skip the first half: a soul puffed up, full of air instead of weight. The word for faith is emunah, steadiness, the word used for Moses' hands staying steady in the battle. Ryan confesses walking out of worship conferences he ran sure he'd seen the Holy Spirit move, and realizing he'd put hundreds of trained singers in a room and they sang. The person living by faith was the one who dragged themselves to church, fighting with their spouse on the way in, standing in the back holding a coffee. You're in that verse this morning.   If you've ever been told the conversation about your role is coming, and then watched it move, you know what this verse costs.Habakkuk 2:3 says two things in one breath: though it takes time, wait for it, and it won't delay. The word that resolves them is appointed. The vision has a time, God set it, and it's only late against your clock. Ryan tells the story of a youth worship leader he let run for a year without guardrails, who worked himself into a small stipend and then into a whole position that nobody had the budget for. He was hurrying toward an end that wasn't on anybody's calendar.   "Yeah, it's Overflow. It's where you go when the room is full." It took us a long time to say it that way.God speaks in Habakkuk 2:2, and before the prophet gets an answer he gets a job: write the vision, make it plain on tablets, big enough that someone running past can read it. A runner isn't studying. He's moving. Ryan tells the story of a church in California that opened an upstairs room for a couple hundred more people, put donuts in it, and spent a long time refusing to call it what it was. The plain name was for the person running past. The cute name was for us.   About a month ago a drum mic started ringing in the middle of a song, and the room sang through it.Habakkuk 2:1 is the hinge of the book. After a chapter of complaint, the prophet climbs his own city wall and takes the watchman's post, looking out for what God will say and what he'll have to answer back about his own complaint. He expects an answer, and he expects it might land on him. Ryan tells the story of a feedback ring his sound guy couldn't find while the song kept going, and what it taught him about staying at a post when the fix isn't in your hands yet.   You've got a list of things that aren't finished, and the doors open anyway.Hebrews 13:20-21 asks the God of peace, the one who brought the great shepherd back from the dead, to make you complete in every good work and to work in you what pleases him. The work you're about to do and the work he's doing in you happen at the same time, in the same body, on the same morning. You don't have to finish yourself before you walk in.   The thing that finally worked is the most dangerous thing you own.Watch what the fisherman is worshiping in Habakkuk 1:16. Not a god who handed him the victory. Not a national deity with a temple and a name. The net. He's burning incense to his gear, and the text tells you exactly why with no judgment in the sentence at all: because by them his life is luxurious and his food is good. It works, he eats well, and that's the whole theology. It never starts with idolatry. It starts with results, and one day you're defending the method like it's holy.Anchored in Habakkuk 1:16-17.   You've had a week where you weren't a person to anybody. You were a slot that got filled.The worst four words in Habakkuk 1:14 are not about the hook. They're no ruler over them. Fish don't have anybody. There's no shepherd who knows this particular one, who would notice it went missing, who would go looking. A shepherd counts; that's the job. Nobody counts fish, you weigh them. So when Habakkuk says God made men like the fish of the sea, he isn't saying people get hurt. He's saying people get processed, by something with no category for them as people. And then the line that stops you: therefore he rejoices and is glad.Anchored in Habakkuk 1:14-15.   You know the thing you stopped praying about. You didn't stop caring. You got tired of hearing yourself ask.Habakkuk 1:13 is the sharpest question in the book, and the accusation is not the one we usually make. He doesn't say God can't see it. He opens by telling God his eyes are too pure to look at evil, then asks why those eyes are pointed straight at this while nothing happens. The charge isn't blindness. It's silence. A God who doesn't notice is a God you can explain. A God who notices and waits is somebody you have to stay with while you don't understand him.Anchored in Habakkuk 1:13.   Think about the last time you had to steady yourself before you said something true. You knew what you were about to say, and you knew it would land worse out loud than it sounded in your head. So you took a second first.This is the opening of Habakkuk's second complaint, and the brutal question is one verse away. He doesn't lead with it. He leads with God's age. Aren't you from everlasting. He's reaching past the invasion, past the news, past everything that changed this year, for the one thing that hasn't moved. Then he says something nobody promised him: we will not die. And in the same breath he's accusing God of appointing all of it, he calls him Rock.Anchored in Habakkuk 1:12.   You've been on the receiving end of a decision nobody would own. There was nobody to be angry at. Just a call that came down, and when you traced it back you found a policy, or a number, or the way we do it now.The Chaldeans don't simply take the stronghold. They laugh at it first. And the siege technology is almost insulting: they build up an earthen ramp, piling dirt against the wall until they can walk over the top. Dirt, and time, and nobody in the whole operation willing to say that's enough. Then the last four words of verse eleven give the diagnosis. Whose strength is their god.   Dig Where You're Standing | Before the Doors Open 29.08.2026 1мин

  A short Sunday morning sending for worship leaders, musicians, vocalists, audio engineers, lighting directors, ProPresenter operators and camera.Nobody in Psalm 84 gets lifted over the valley. It's on the route, the route is the pilgrimage, and the name of the low part is Weeping. What these people do instead is dig, so the ones walking behind them find water there. And the autumn rain comes anyway. Both of those happen.
