  • Interview with Ricard Ramon 10.06.2026 19мин
Recorded at the recent Forum for the Future of Agriculture Regional event in Dublin, Rose O’Donovan interviewed Ricard Ramon, Head of Unit for Policy Perspectives at DG AGRI, about the current state of the negotiations with the CAP. Joining online, Mr Ramon said a minimum CAP budget of around 300 billion euros is established to 2034, with significant additional resources available: a requirement that 10% of unallocated funds be spent in rural areas, worth around 48 billion euros, and a further 45 billion euros could be moved to agriculture, if spent early in the period. He highlighted that it is very important to continue to put a big focus on support for farmers’ incomes – the key is matching the right type of support to the right need, whether direct payments, investment, technology or risk management.
  • Interview with Michael Werz 15.05.2026 22мин
In the latest Food Systems Podcast episode, Michael Werz, Senior Fellow, Council on Foreign Relations, discusses how global instability, conflict and climate change are making resilient food systems central to future geopolitical stability. Michael calls for stronger multilateral cooperation, greater leadership from Global South nations, and urgent reforms to trade, agricultural policy, and food governance to build a more resilient and equitable global food system.

  • Insights from the Forum’s Annual Conference: Interview with Tobias Bandel 29.09.2025 8мин
In this edition of the Food Systems Podcast, Alex Turk talks, during an interview at this year's Forum for the Future of Agriculture Annual Conference, to Tobias Bandel, Co-founder of The Landbanking Group and also a farmer. Tobias explains that the Landbanking Group was founded out of frustration that sustainability projects always got stuck in the “pilot world”. Sourcing sustainably was a competitive disadvantage because it added costs and they realized that if a company can demonstrably show that they are investing in risk reduction, it can be considered an asset because it creates corporate value and ensures business continuity.
  • Insights from the Forum’s Annual Conference: Interview with Jurgen Tack 18.09.2025 7мин
In this edition of the Food Systems Podcast, Alex Turk talks, during an interview at this year's Forum for the Future of Agriculture Annual Conference, to Jurgen Tack, Secretary-General of the European Landowners’ Organization. Jurgen explains how at the conference we hear a good mix of possibilities, from market instruments like carbon farming and biodiversity credits to the role of subsidies and profitability. However, profitability is often lost in the discussion, but it is the most important aspect of any farming activity in Europe. He believes that we have to start thinking about a longer-term system with less subsidies and higher profitability for farmers.

  • Insights from the Forum’s Annual Conference: Interview with Katie McRobert 01.09.2025 8мин
In this edition of the Food Systems Podcast, Alex Turk talks to Katie McRobert, Executive Director of the Australian Farm Institute, during an interview at this year's Forum for the Future of Agriculture Annual Conference. Katie explains how Australian farmers operate in a very different policy environment, with no public support or subsidies, it’s purely market-driven. So, looking for those things that unite rather than focusing on the differences is extremely important. She believes that if we can articulate our shared values, we can then design implementation strategies suitable for different jurisdictions while all working towards the same goal of sustainable agriculture.

While farmers have a great history of feeding an increasing population on about the same amount of land, she highlights that new challenges have emerged including climate change and biodiversity decline. She believes that we need to be both sustainable and competitive, because as a farmer, you can’t be green if your bank account is red.
