  • Killaloe MD Cathaoirleach Hits Out At Government For Attempting To "Influence" Pipeline Decision 07.07.2026 3мин
The Cathaoirleach of the Killaloe Municipal District is hitting out at the Government for attempting to "influence" the planning decision on a controversial water extraction project. An Coimisiún Pleanála has confirmed it's delaying making a decision on Uisce Éireann's proposed Water Supply Project for the Eastern and Midlands Region for a year. The commission says it's not "possible to determine the case within the statutory objective period due to the need for further consideration of the case". Killaloe Fianna Fáil Councillor Tony O'Brien claims it was "wrong" of the Taoiseach and others in Government to make statements pushing for the approval of the plans.

The vote being proposed by the European People's Party is non-binding, which means the European Union will not be obliged to take any action on the result. 45% of all exports from the Shannon Estuary based alumina refinery went to Russia last year, and the Government says a report to determine if this trade aided Russia's military is imminent. Scariff based Independent MEP Michael McNamara says they need to know the facts before making a call.

The Save Kilkee Cliff Walk Campaign had raised over €100,000 to take legal action against Uisce Éireann's plans to build a sewerage treatment plant in close proximity to Kilkee Cliff Walk.
