Inside Fashion’s Reset: Creative Directors, Luxury Prices and Anna Wintour 08.09.2026 33минFashion houses are expected to do two contradictory things: protect their identity and continually reinvent it.Mimma Viglezio argues that the tension is becoming harder to manage. In this episode of Culturepreneur, we examine what she calls the “tyranny of the codes”: the logos, archives, symbols and inherited expectations that make a fashion house recognizable but can also constrain the person hired to move it forward. The pressure no longer comes only from inside the company. Social media has turned audiences into an increasingly powerful critical constituency, while executives and shareholders remain focused on sales, margins and quarterly performance. Viglezio argues that the combination is creating a deeper problem for fashion: fear.We examine why she believes Chanel gave Matthieu Blazy the conditions to take genuine creative risks, why other major creative-director appointments have struggled, and what happens when fashion houses make leadership decisions out of urgency rather than conviction. We also look at the economics of luxury: Gucci’s selective price reductions, the movement of high-fashion talent into more accessible brands, the disappearance of the middle market and why some of fashion’s most interesting creative jobs may eventually exist outside traditional luxury. Finally, Viglezio turns to cultural power, questioning the limits of Anna Wintour, Vogue and Condé Nast, and what recent controversy reveals about the relationship between institutions, patrons, money and authority.Culturepreneur examines the business, technology, institutions and ideas shaping the global creative and cultural economy.Viglezio explicitly contrasts Chanel’s patient approach with decisions she believes were driven by urgency or fear elsewhere in the industry, while her final segment turns from individual designers toward institutional authority and the limits of cultural power. -
AI, Extreme Heat and the New Economics of Design 01.09.2026 22минAs AI makes creative production faster and more predictable, could rebellion become a competitive advantage?Design journalist and critic Anne Quito joins Culturepreneur to examine some of the forces changing the economics of design, architecture and culture. The conversation begins in Europe, where extreme heat is forcing cities and buildings designed for another climate to adapt. With as much as 85% to 95% of Europe’s building stock expected to remain standing in 2050, the opportunity may increasingly move from new construction toward retrofit, passive design and climate resilience. From there, we examine what governments should expect from billion-dollar cultural investments. Australia’s A$915 million Powerhouse Parramatta is targeting roughly two million visitors a year—but tourism, jobs and economic activity are only part of the measure of whether a museum succeeds. We also look at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art and what its collection of comics, illustration, film and popular visual culture says about the longstanding divide between institutional culture and the forms of culture consumed by millions of people. Then, a set of Claude Lalanne mirrors bought for $2.2 million in 2009 sells for $33.5 million. Anne explains why the more revealing story may be the machinery behind the price: provenance, scholarship, historical context and the ability of institutions such as Sotheby’s to frame cultural significance. We also examine why brands are moving some creator relationships beyond sponsorship into strategy, product development and equity—and whether ownership could become a way to align with creators who might otherwise become competitors. Finally, Anne makes the case for creative rebellion in the age of AI: resistance, dissidence and friction as tools for avoiding algorithmic predictability and preserving human agency.
