Jake Castle is an EASA ATPL and CAA PPL holder from Essex, England, now living in Málaga, Spain, who has put together a guide to the exercises in the PPL syllabus. Each episode breaks down a flying exercise into easy-to-understand chunks so student pilots can make the most of their costly lessons and spend their time learning to fly rather than trying to remember how. The show is made for listening on the drive to the airfield, on a commute or while doing chores, acting as a gentle reminder of what to do in each exercise. It is not aircraft-specific and is not intended to teach you to fly, but to reinforce the basic fundamentals for anyone learning for fun or aiming to go commercial.

A bonus episode focusing on the Airline Pilot Standards Multi-Crew Cooperation course. This is not part of the PPL syllabus but as so many go on from PPL to commercial training, I thought this episode would be a helpful insight into what is required and what the APS MCC actually is. This episode is designed for prior to starting your APS MCC to give you a head start in understanding and preparing. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The commercial pilots licence is maybe the toughest test (I thought so anyway) but it doesn’t have to be, there is so much you can do to prepare. I have given my story and my journey, with a few snippets of what the CPL includes and how to ace your skill test, maximising your training. Hosted on Acast. • Exercise 15 14.11.2024 21мин
The aim will be to carry out a co-ordinated turn at 45 deg & 60 deg, whilst maintaining balance and airspeed and to roll out on selected reference points or headings. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
  • Exercise 14 13.11.2024 17мин
First solo flight! The best flying you will ever do…except CPL QXC but that is another story  The aim of this exercise is very simple, the aim is to fly solo and be the PIC of an aeroplane for the first time. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
  • Exercise 13 13.11.2024 31мин
You’ll learn to make an approach and landing without the use of flaps, make a glide approach and conduct a safe circuit even in soft/short field landing circumstances. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
  • Exercise 12 13.11.2024 33мин

  • Exercise 10 09.11.2024 52мин
This lesson may be taught differently at your school/club but is maybe one of the most important. The fundamentals are around slow flight recognising it, acquainted with what slow flight characteristics of the aircraft feel like and returning to normal flight. You will need to learn to recognise the symptoms of the stall, the full stall and recover with minimum height loss Hosted on Acast. • Exercise 9 06.11.2024 29мин
Exercise 9 As with many of the exercises, exercise 9 is split into parts, namely 9.1 9.2 For using on the first part which is 9.1 we have the aim of learning how to carry out a medium level (30 degree) bamnkled turn in balance and turn onto a selected heading.9.2 takes the form of learning to carry out climbing and descending turns. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
  • Exercise 7.2 & 8.2 05.11.2024 21мин
Exercise 7.2 & 8.2 Aim is to learn to control the descent of the A/C with the use of power and/or flap and to go around (missed approach) Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
  • Exercise 7.1 & 8.1 05.11.2024 18мин
Exercise 7.1 & 8.1Climbing and descending at a constant speed on a constant heading and in balance. You may have noticed that some lessons you will do multiple exercises or that the order of the exercises are changed around and not linear. The next few lessons are going to be exactly that so I have grouped them into hopefully the day they will be taught.  Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
  • Exercise 6 29.10.2024 17мин
The aim of this exercise is the thing that will to learn to do more than anything else as a pilot which is yes flying straight and level but it is about consistency in flying straight and level. It is being able to consistently fly in a constant direction which we will call straight whilst maintaining a constant altitude which we will call flying level and in balance. The balance refers to our balance call and as we learnt in effects if control, it is crucial we are in balanced coordinated flight Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
  • Exercise 5 28.10.2024 22мин
Taxiing and how to do it safely Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
