François Picard is pleased to welcome Vivian Salama from Washington. An attorney and staff writer at The Atlantic, Salama has reported from more than 85 countries. Her latest investigation takes us back to September 26, 2023. As Israel's national security establishment gathered to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War and one of the country's greatest intelligence failures, Abbas Kamel, then Egypt's intelligence chief, made an exceptionally rare and discreet visit to Israel with a stark warning about the dangerous situation unfolding in Gaza.

Evargora describes the current Manchester City case as unprecedented in scale: "This is nothing of the scale that we've seen before." The case brings together an explosive mix of pressures confronting modern sport like never before: the multibillion-euro business of football, the legal and regulatory mechanisms designed to govern it, and the increasingly complex relationship between sport, political power and international investment.

François Picard is pleased to welcome Ian Bremmer, the American political scientist, author, and founder and president of Eurasia Group and GZERO Media. According to Bremmer, we may now be entering the autumn of the "Donroe Doctrine" and the MAGA era: an "America First" isolationist approach in which President Donald Trump envisions a return to "greatness" in Gilded Age fashion. But is this the America voters had envisioned?
  • Trump 'flips & flops' with Iran between making a deal and threats to attack in ‘devastating fashion’ 28.09.2026 10мин
François Picard is pleased to welcome Barbara Slavin, Distinguished Fellow at the Stimson Center. She describes the US-Iran conflict as a dangerous combination of military escalation, diplomatic ambiguity and political calculation. Slavin sees an absence of true diplomacy: the recent indirect contacts between Washington and Tehran, mediated by Qatar, have been too limited and too fragile to produce any serious breakthrough. For her, this amounts to "kabuki diplomacy": they half engage while positioning themselves against any appearance of compromise.

While Ukraine is outnumbered, outgunned and sometimes outflanked, their answer is to make human initiative a weapon: giving soldiers and sergeants room to innovate, developing technology from the tactical level upward, and trying to outthink their adversary. Berkal says that Operation Vivaldi embodies that philosophy.

His investigation reveals a globalised and deliberately opaque supply chain in which books purchased through anonymous marketplaces arrive at large-scale scanning facilities, where their bindings are removed so that pages can be processed at great speed.

According to Applebaum, the upheaval in American diplomacy and foreign policy transcends any one administration. She describes a full-fledged transformation in the way the United States exerts power, pivoting away from leadership of a democratic alliance and toward a transactional, mafia-style politics that fuses ideology, private economic interests, personal relationships and geopolitical leverage.

Drawing on his book, "Liar’s Kingdom", Weissmann questions why political leaders are above the law in the United States, while ordinary citizens risk serious legal consequences for making intentionally false statements.
  • The 'authenticity' of Celine Dion: 'She appeals to the Boomers and the Zoomers' 13.09.2026 13мин
In this edition, FRANCE 24’s François Picard talks to Nick Rees-Roberts, Professor of Media, Culture and Communication at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University about Celine Dion. For Roberts, Dion’s extraordinary return to Paris reveals something larger than the enduring popularity of a global pop star. Her appeal lies in an unusual ability to bridge categories that contemporary celebrity and pop culture often keep separate: generations, languages, cultural hierarchies and even the apparent opposition between authenticity and carefully constructed stardom.

The former New York City firefighter describes an anniversary that reactivates trauma, while the illnesses suffered by first responders make the consequences of Ground Zero ever-present decades later. He says that responders were misled about the dangers they faced and demands accountability and long-term healthcare for those exposed to the toxic air.
