Ep 110 - The Darién Gap With Patty Upton At OEW24 31.05.2024 1h 6min“What I dare…I will! What I will…I do!” - Loren Lee Upton 1935-2022 We kick off our first episode of our Overland Expo West series presented by Goose Gear (www.goose-gear.com) with a true tale of adventure. I have the privilege of sitting down with Patty Upton to delve into the extraordinary adventures of her late husband, Loren Upton, and his groundbreaking journey across one of the most perilous and untamed regions on earth—the Darién Gap. This area, notorious for its dense jungle, lawlessness, and the presence of dangerous smugglers and rebels, posed a unique set of challenges. Loren and Patty took on this formidable terrain in a modified Jeep CJ5, achieving what many thought impossible. Their persistence not only marked a significant chapter in adventure travel but also led them to set a world record for the first all-land crossing of the Darién Gap—a journey that stretched over two grueling years. Join us as Patty shares captivating stories from this epic expedition, reflecting on the sheer determination and spirit of adventure that drove them to navigate through such a daunting landscape. It's a tale of true grit and adventure that you won't want to miss. Find out more and listen to better podcasts than ours with Patty at https://www.outbackofbeyond.com/
