  If you’re looking for something completely different to binge right now, Apple TV has a show called *Widow’s Bay*, and this thing is a very strange cocktail of horror, comedy, mystery and small-town drama. The basic setup is this: *Widow’s Bay* is a tiny, isolated island off the coast of New England. It’s beautiful, it’s quirky, it’s incredibly old-fashioned, and according to the locals, it’s also cursed. Matthew Rhys plays Tom Loftis, the town’s mayor. Tom is basically trying to turn this sleepy little island into the next big tourist destination. He wants visitors, he wants businesses, he wants the town to make money. There’s just one tiny problem. The locals have been telling everyone for generations that something is seriously wrong with this place. And then the weird stuff starts happening. There’s a mysterious fog rolling in, people start experiencing bizarre supernatural events, and suddenly all those old stories that everyone dismissed as island folklore start looking a whole lot less ridiculous. You’ve got sea hags, killer clowns, haunted locations, strange creatures, disturbing legends and some seriously creepy stuff going on around the island. But here’s what makes *Widow’s Bay* different. It’s actually funny. And not "let’s make a horror movie and throw some jokes in it" funny. The comedy is much more deadpan. A lot of it comes from watching Tom, who is trying desperately to keep the town functioning, deal with increasingly insane supernatural problems while everyone around him seems to have their own bizarre version of reality. Matthew Rhys is fantastic as the exhausted mayor who is basically having the worst workweek imaginable. And the supporting cast is loaded. Kate O’Flynn plays Tom’s assistant Patricia, Stephen Root plays local fisherman Wyck, and the show has a whole collection of eccentric island characters who make the place feel genuinely lived-in. One of the coolest things about the series is how it plays with different horror genres. One episode might feel like a classic slasher. Another feels like a haunted-house story. Then you get folklore, supernatural horror and even some serious Stephen King-style small-town weirdness. But it never completely turns into a parody. It actually wants you to care about these people. Underneath all the creepy stuff, there’s also a story about grief, family and a community trying to survive while its past keeps coming back to haunt it. And that's probably the biggest surprise with *Widow’s Bay*. You go in expecting a quirky horror comedy, but there’s a real emotional story underneath all the fog, monsters and bizarre island legends. Now, is it actually scary? I’d say it’s more creepy and unsettling than outright terrifying. If you're looking for something that’s going to have you sleeping with every light in the house on, this probably isn't that show. But if you like weird, funny, atmospheric television that constantly makes you wonder, "What the hell is going on in this town?" then *Widow’s Bay* is definitely worth checking out. And apparently a LOT of people agree. The show recently made a huge splash at the Emmys, taking home 14 awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series. So my verdict for the radio audience is pretty simple: *Widow’s Bay* is weird, funny, creepy, occasionally disturbing, and very easy to get hooked on. It's basically the kind of show where you start watching because you’re curious... …and three episodes later you're sitting there thinking, "Okay, I need to know what happens next." *Widow’s Bay* is streaming on Apple TV.
