That's Dr. Gabriel Alizaidy's diagnosis in the first ninety seconds of this episode of the DDT Method Podcast, and the next hour is the cure: pick the right tool for the right job, run one or two things at a time, dose low and slow, and let someone who isn't you make the call. Drew's intake forms went from three entries to forty-seven. Both of them have been guilty. Nobody gets to feel superior here. The section people will replay is mitochondria. SS-31 is physical therapy for your mitochondria. MOTS-c is exercise. Run them in the wrong order and you get the pattern Gabe sees constantly: two great injections, then tired all the time. He explains mitochondria the way he'd explain them to his mom (miles per gallon, exhaust, scrap the broken car), why diet, sleep, and training come before anything goes in a syringe, why MOTS-c works better with exercise instead of replacing it, and the MOTS-c doses he won't touch. Then the wide-angle stuff: red light therapy and nitric oxide, oxytocin as the peptide he uses before public speaking, myostatin inhibitors and FLGR from a safe distance, how Drew finds new compounds before they hit Instagram, why phase 3 trials for BPC-157 and TB-500 aren't coming, and the decision-fatigue conversation that lands where wealthy people already live: get an advisor for this part of your life. First peptide or fifteenth, this is the episode about how to choose.About the guest: Dr. Gabriel Alizaidy (MD; MS in Precision Health, University of Chicago) came up through CAR-T cancer research at UChicago, runs clinical R&D for a performance-medicine telehealth company, and sat on the FDA's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee that voted this summer to move BPC-157, TB-500, KPV, and MOTS-c toward compounding pharmacies.5 Key TakeawaysThe one-line diagnosis an FDA panel doctor gives for how most people use peptides. Why SS-31 is physical therapy and MOTS-c is exercise for your mitochondria. The number of compounds Drew is actually running right now, even though he has vials of everything. Why phase three trials for BPC-157 and TB-500 aren't coming, and what a clinical researcher says should stand in for them. The reason Gabe says even a knowledgeable person shouldn't build their own stack, and the kind of advisor he thinks belongs in your corner.Chapters 0:00 Welcome, and how to work with DDT Method1:24 The #1 peptide mistake: collecting like Pokémon3:13 Who Gabe is: CAR-T research, telehealth R&D, and the FDA peptide panel8:17 The new fat-loss compounds, and why he won't rush them12:53 Mitochondria explained: miles per gallon and exhaust16:59 The non-negotiables before you inject anything20:24 SS-31 is physical therapy, MOTS-c is exercise: which comes first22:58 A word from Amplify Wellness and Janus Optimize25:33 Low and slow: the doses he won't touch28:30 Folate, AMPK, and cardiolipin: what the two peptides actually do33:04 Red light therapy and nitric oxide38:08 Oxytocin: the peptide for public speaking and connection42:52 Myostatin inhibitors and FLGR: watching, not touching47:55 A word from Amplify Wellness, Janus Optimize, and the Skool group50:09 How Drew finds new compounds, and why RCTs aren't coming55:56 Less is more: Drew's medicine cabinet confession1:00:32 Decision fatigue: put the call in an expert's hands1:06:42 Where to find GabeConnect with Dr. Gabriel AlizaidyInstagram – @gabrielalizaidyLinkedIn – https://www.linkedin.com/in/galizaidy/YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiOE4LyFDVoSuQLSLX7SM8A

In this episode of the DDT Method Podcast, Drew sits down with Chris and his coach Mike Nassif to break down the contest prep that made it work: why your peak offseason intake should be your refeed day from week one, how high days keep T4 to T3 conversion and free T3 from tanking in a calorie deficit, and why the frequency of those days should go up, not down, as you get leaner. If you've ever stalled in a fat loss phase and blamed metabolic adaptation, this is the mechanism explained by people who manage it for a living. This isn't just for bodybuilders. Anyone chasing extreme fat loss, whether that's a contest prep, a photoshoot, or just getting truly shredded, will get a repeatable framework here: how to structure refeed days when cutting, why hunger is the signal your diet is working, when a coach introduces a GLP in prep and why not at the start, how to manage fatigue without seven days of cardio, and what the blood work looked like three weeks out and one week post-show. The back half covers the health side of enhancement: the diagnostics Mike requires for his athletes, how to get an echocardiogram and calcium score without a fight, and the blood pressure protocol Drew wishes every client followed.5 Key TakeawaysThe refeed rule a pro coach uses to keep the metabolism from downregulating in prep. What "metabolic downregulation" actually looks like on a blood panel. Why zero stress mattered as much as the diet, and what Mike tells athletes who can't just switch it off. When to bring a GLP into a prepThe diagnostics Mike requires for enhanced athletes.Chapters00:00 Contest prep from a different angle02:41 The order: 6 to 7,000 calories after six high-carb meals05:27 Why it didn't break thermodynamics06:22 Mike's high-day rule: your offseason intake is your refeed09:22 What metabolic downregulation actually means10:56 T4 to T3, free T3, and allostatic load12:52 Zero stress: the other half of the result14:18 How Chris actually de-stressed16:30 Coaching athletes who can't just "have fun"18:25 What changed this prep vs. every prep before19:54 Stair stepper over treadmill, and the 8-to-5-weeks-out protocol22:51 Managing fatigue and the timeline Chris kept breaking26:14 Coach-client communication as a performance variable28:14 Drew's guardrail: this only works between two professionals33:37 Peptides in contest prep: what Mike actually uses and when37:05 Dosing, recovery, and a sponsorship handshake38:42 Drew's 20-day experiment and inflammatory markers40:10 Why Chris's hunger came back at higher doses42:18 Why Mike keeps hunger present on a GLP44:28 Post-show: back to baseline weight before the reverse45:29 The blood work: best of Chris's career, three weeks out and one week after48:48 The peak cycle, on the record49:36 Clearance time, health supplementation, and doing the little things53:12 Drew gives Chris his flowers: continued education55:08 Bioregulators: Chris's two-compound self-experiment57:47 Calcium scores, echocardiograms, and where to get them cheap59:52 Mike's required diagnostics for enhanced athletes01:02:24 Blood pressure: how, how often, and which cuff01:05:05 Tracking BP with a wearable01:06:18 Educate yourself, monitor your health01:08:04 Where to find Chris and MikeConnect with the GuestsChris GrossInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/chrisjohn___/NeoGen LabsMike NassifInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mike_nassif/Email: [email protected]

Jay Ferruggia is the common denominator. He coaches CM Punk, Rey Mysterio, Chad Gable and a who's who of WWE, MLB, NFL and UFC athletes, wrote the Men's Fitness Hardgainer column for a decade, and has spent 30 years fixing the same problems on himself that his clients bring him.His answer is the opposite of what most lifters are doing. Less volume, harder sets, shorter warm-ups, wider rep brackets, and a logbook that is loosely held. More carbs, less fat, more meals, no fasting. Morning sun, sleep, a walk after dinner. And a scoreboard most people have never checked: their morning body temperature.Drew and Jay walk through the CM Punk transformation in detail, the recovery tools that actually move the needle versus the ones that just look good on Instagram, why "eat less, move more" is backwards for the people who are already stuck, how Jay programs cardio for busy people in five to ten minutes, and how to balance looking the part with moving like an athlete.5 TakeawaysCM Punk was training at 5 reps in reserve with far too much volume. Jay cut the volume and the physique showed up in 6 weeks.Jay ate 200 grams of fat a day for years without knowing it. He cut it to 50 and got the leanest he's ever been at 52.A 95.6° morning temperature means you don't burn fat, build muscle or fight off a cold. The fix starts with orange juice before coffee.Take your temperature before and after a brutal workout. It drops. That's why most of his clients get leaner training less and eating more. His warm-up before the 80-pound dumbbells is three sets totaling 12 reps. Most guys do 40 and wonder why the work sets feel heavy.Chapters0:00 Intro: Why Half the WWE Roster Got Jacked2:05 Minimum Effective Dose & Recovery for Banged-Up Athletes8:16 From 147 Pounds to Coaching Pros: Jay's Background18:44 The CM Punk Case Study: Volume, Carbs & Sleep26:09 The Recovery Tools That Actually Move the Needle30:42 Body Temperature: The Metabolic Scoreboard37:00 How to Program Cardio & HIIT for Busy People43:32 Warm-Ups, Rep Brackets & the Logbook Trap54:55 Balancing Aesthetics & Athleticism in a Program60:49 What Dogs Taught Jay About Presence63:59 Building the Perfect Meal PlanConnect with Jay:Jay's site & coaching: https://jay.fitInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/jayferruggiaYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUuDiUu00raDqT_MaNhx_HwRenegade Radio podcast (Apple): https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/renegade-radio-with-jay-ferruggia/id853941025Renegade Radio podcast (Spotify): https://open.spotify.com/show/0Hw50ZFA1gOfC1vQEZDI3u

In this episode he and Drew go head to head on SLU-PP-332 vs SLU-PP-915 — why the reported dosing range on 332 spans a thousandfold, what actually happens at the top of that range, and why 915 appears to do the same job at a fraction of the dose with cleaner blood work and none of the hydrazide risk. From there it opens into the rest of the new metabolic drugs. Max breaks down the estrogen-related receptor mechanism behind the exercise mimetics — why they shift fuel selection toward fat, why they drive GLUT4 and mitochondrial density independent of training, and why the gyno panic around 332 was never pharmacologically possible. He explains ATX-304 (O-304) as a pan-AMPK activator that keeps AMPK switched on by blocking the phosphatase that turns it off, and why twelve weeks at the clinical dose did nothing measurable to his hypertrophy despite everything the AMPK-versus-mTOR crowd predicted. He covers SANA (MVD1) and the futile creatine cycle — a compound whose entire mechanism is making your body waste its own energy accomplishing nothing — along with the phase one tolerability ceiling and the creatine-loading trick one user stacked on top of it.The back half turns to what the community already runs and gets wrong. Why the SS-31 dose everyone uses was essentially picked out of the air, an order of magnitude below the studies. Why ACE-083 grows muscle volume without a matching increase in force output. Why Masteron's reputation has no pharmacological pedigree behind it. Why Boldenone is a better Primobolan than most people will admit, and why mirabegron and albuterol are the two most overlooked compounds in fat loss. The through-line: almost every dose and every fear this community operates on was inherited rather than measured. And the single most practical warning in the hour — stack an exercise mimetic with ATX-304 while running a deep deficit on low carbs and fasted cardio, and the compounds are not what puts you on the floor. Your diet is.TAKEAWAYSThe dosing range on SLU-PP-332 spans a thousandfold. Only one end of it does anything.SLU-PP-915 does the same job at roughly a seventh of the dose — and the blood work comes back cleaner.Stack an exercise mimetic with ATX-304 and it won't be the compounds that put you on the floor. It'll be your diet. The SS-31 dose everyone runs is 2mg. The studies showing kidney benefit start at 40.Mirabegron is a bladder drug for old people. In this episode he lays out the full order of operations for building extreme size, and the argument underneath it is that safer use is not lower use. Every input has a range where it still returns something. The job is to push each lever as far as it productively goes and then move to the next one, instead of pushing harder on the one you already finished. He walks it in sequence: training and calories before any drug, testosterone and a DHT before 19-nors, growth hormone and insulin only once diet and cardio are already consistent, and peptides last because they buy the health headroom that lets the whole thing keep running. Along the way, the blood work cadence he wants, the blood pressure and hematocrit management most people ignore, the supplement protocol he credits for a clean echocardiogram after years of aggressive cycles, and the 2,700mg trenbolone mistake that taught him low doses work better. What you'll learnWhat "safer use" actually means in practice: pushing many levers as far as each one goes, rather than maxing a single pathwayThe full buildout order, from training and calorie structure through anabolics, cardio, GH, insulin and peptidesWhere the real thresholds sit on testosterone and growth hormone, and why insulin follows carbohydrate demand rather than creating itThe blood work cadence, blood pressure and hematocrit management, and the supplement protocol behind a clean echocardiogram after years of aggressive cyclesWhat peptides actually do in an enhanced protocol, and why they are health infrastructure rather than growth drugsChapters0:00 Effort, Method & How He Got Here7:36 What Safer Use Actually Means14:11 The Buildout Begins: Training, Calories & First Anabolics22:39 Estrogen, Neurosteroids & Blood Work Frequency28:56 Blood Pressure, Hematocrit, Cardiac Scans & Calcium Scores41:48 Cardio as an Anabolic Tool45:10 Growth Hormone & Insulin: Thresholds and Demand54:38 Peptides: The Levers That Keep the Rest Running1:00:05 Rapid Fire & the Tren StoryConnect with Alex HammerstoneInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/alexhammerstone/X: https://x.com/alexhammerstone

He's 40, he's still setting personal records, and he now coaches athletes through the NFL Combine alongside a roster of people who just want to move like they did at 25.Which makes him an unusual person to argue that almost everyone is doing too much. That's the whole hour. Asked where people go wrong, his first answer is that they try to run every protocol, every modality and every biohack at once, and end up failing at most of them. Everything after that is a method for cutting the list down: one to two priorities per block, a high-low week that keeps them from stealing from each other, a talk test instead of a heart-rate monitor, three recovery tools out of everything he has access to, and two metrics. He also brings the receipts from both ends of the spectrum — a Combine safety who went from 188 pounds and a 4.7 forty to 208 pounds and a 4.4 in ten weeks, and a 55-year-old who needed two years to run a single pain-free sprint. Same system. The only variable was capacity. If your training week has four goals in it and none of them are moving, this is the one to sit with.WHAT YOU'LL LEARNThe reason your program has stalled probably isn't the program. It's how many things you're asking your body to get good at simultaneously.A Combine safety put on 20 pounds and cut three tenths off his 40 in ten weeks. A 55-year-old client needed two years to run 60 yards pain-free. Same system, and the difference isn't effort.Sprinting and jumping will make your squat and your bench feel better, and the reason has nothing to do with your legs or your shoulders. He has access to hyperbaric chambers and won't use them. What he does instead takes three tools and he'll tell you exactly when he reaches for each one.He takes 20 grams of creatine on an ordinary day and 40 to 50 when he travels. He's a pharmacist with a background in exercise physiology, he came up alongside Charles Poliquin, and his lab was the first to synthesize MOTS-c.Which means he watched the entire field get built. And he's watching the current boom repeat mistakes that were already settled twenty years ago.In this episode he takes apart the errors nobody in the space seems to notice: why "TB-500" doesn't reliably tell you which molecule is in the vial, why the GHK-Cu results people are excited about are mostly the copper, why the doses that sound dangerous are the ones the papers actually used, and why the human research everyone says doesn't exist has existed for decades — just not in English. He also gives you his own protocol, which is a single weekly injection, and the reasoning that makes daily pinning unnecessary for most people. Then he does the thing almost nobody in this space does: when Drew asks him to rank SS-31 against MOTS-c, he says he doesn't know enough to answer. If you've been running peptides for a few years and you're starting to wonder how much of what you've been told is actually true, this is the hour. This conversation is for informational and educational purposes only and is not medical advice. Todd's other education came the hard way, running 100 and 200-mile ultramarathons, where they weighed the runners every ten miles because too many electrolytes and too few produce exactly the same symptoms. The argument in this episode is that the entire popular conversation about water is stuck on one half of the problem. We talk about what to take out — chlorine, fluoride, microplastics, pharmaceutical residue — and almost never about what the water is once it's clean. Todd's position, inherited from Butts, is close to the opposite of the standard advice: revitalizing matters more than filtering, and the only reason he'd filter at all is taste. Drew pushes him through the practical stack anyway — where reverse osmosis genuinely helps and where it leaves you worse off, why distilled is closer to what nature does, what remineralization actually needs to look like, and why the sodium-to-potassium ratio decides whether the water you drink ends up inside your cells or around them. From there it goes into the fourth phase of water, why hexagonal structure holds more energy, and the claim at the center of the whole thing: that your cells have to convert ordinary water into crystalline water before they can use it, and that conversion costs mitochondrial energy you'd rather spend elsewhere.5 Key TakeawaysWhy a reverse osmosis system can leave you less hydrated than before you bought it, and the two-line fixWhat to check on a filter's published results that most companies were quietly avoiding for yearsWhy too many electrolytes produces the same symptoms as too few, learned over 200-mile racesThe reason your cells can't use a glass of water in the form you drank it, and what that costs youWhat John Butts's horses understood about running water that most of the wellness industry still doesn'tConnect with ToddInstagram – https://www.instagram.com/thatoddtoddNatural Action – https://www.naturalaction.comNatural Action on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/naturalactionDisclosure: Todd works with Natural Action, whose devices are discussed throughout, and Drew has an affiliate code with them which lives in the DDT Method School Group.

He competed straight through to 2014, took a decade off, spent five years as a corrections officer working the main intake at Rikers Island, then moved his family to South Florida and went back to coaching full-time — which is what he has actually been doing since 2011. He came back to the stage in 2024 and turned pro. He promotes the IFBB South Florida Pro and the NPC Chisel Classic, had six athletes on the Olympia stage last year, and learned the trade under Dave Palumbo, Chad Nichols, Fakhri Mubarak and George Farah, back when prep meant an hour on the step mill in the morning and another hour at night. That background is what makes this conversation worth an hour, because Adam now argues almost the opposite of how he was brought up. His whole system is built on using less pharmacological force and controlling the conditions around it instead. Peptides that let him take clenbuterol down to nothing. Starting prep near maintenance rather than in a hole, so there's somewhere to go at eight weeks out. Never more than forty minutes of cardio in a sitting, because the inflammation costs more than the calories buy. Shortening a female's time on rather than cutting a male's dose in half — the poison is in the duration, not the dose. Weekly blood pressure and glucose readings, because a stalled athlete is usually a filtration problem rather than a diet problem. A fifteen-minute walk after a meal instead of another unit of insulin. And a peak week where water and sodium go up rather than down, because water is what carries the carbohydrate into the muscle. He closes with the worst protocol he has ever seen a female handed by another coach, which is the argument for everything above it.5 Key TakeawaysWhy athletes who start prep already underfed have nowhere left to go by six weeks out, and where Adam sets the starting point insteadThe rule that governs how he builds every female cycle, and why halving a male's dose is the most common and most damaging mistake in the sportThe early virilization signs that are still reversible if you catch them, and the ones that aren'tWhat an elevated blood pressure reading tells you about why an athlete has stopped losing weight, and why fixing it moves the scaleWhy he drives water and sodium up in peak week rather than stripping them, and what happens to a carb load when an athlete is dehydratedChapters0:00 The Peptides That Replaced High-Dose Stimulants3:44 From Teen Nationals to Rikers Island to Coaching Full-Time8:18 How Fat Loss Prep Changed: Starting Point, Fatigue and Cardio Structure14:51 SLU-PP-332, Clenbuterol and Cycling Fat Loss Drugs23:13 Peptides for Muscle, and Building a Male Cycle27:31 Female Cycles: Duration Over Dose, Virilization Signs and Multi-Show Strategy35:31 What Blood Work Keeps Showing, and Managing Hematocrit39:44 The Cardiovascular Stack, Blood Pressure and Glucose45:38 Insulin, Carb Timing and the Post-Meal Walk53:00 Steps, HIIT, Sleep and the Daily Tracker59:28 Peak Week: Why Water and Sodium Go Up1:03:42 Where to Find Adam, and the Worst Cycle He's SeenConnect with AdamInstagram – https://www.instagram.com/adamreichCoaching with Team Best Built

He started as a wrestler who picked up bodybuilding magazines because there was nothing else to read about lifting, prepped for his first show while still in high school, and went full-time coaching while charging fifty dollars a month and barely covering rent. Then he competed too often, ran himself into hormonal downregulation and digestive problems, and had a doctor tell him plainly that he was killing himself. Working his own way out of that is what pushed him into blood work, GI testing and functional health years before the bodybuilding world had any patience for it — the response to his early posts was mostly "this is bullshit, don't complicate it."What he arrived at is the argument running underneath this entire conversation: the limit is your body's capacity to use what you give it, not the size of what you give it. Almost every standard fix in this sport adds something — more carbs on show morning, more food on a refeed, more cardio, more compounds, more antimicrobials — when the move that actually works is reducing load or rebuilding capacity. Austin walks through what that looks like in practice: why peak week fails on digestion rather than carbs, why a refeed's real benefit is fatigue reduction and not the food, how he doses cardio against an athlete's entire life rather than their training, how to reintroduce food to someone who hasn't eaten a piece of fruit in five years, and why the standard SIBO protocol keeps sending people back around the same loop every few months. Drew brings his own version of it too — the years he assumed he was a poor responder, and what changed when he took his fiber from ten grams a day to seventy.5 Key TakeawaysWhy a flat physiques happen on show morningThe real mechanism behind a refeed and how to enhance itBalancing cardio against an athlete's total stress load rather than against their trainingHow to reintroduce foods after an elimination dietWhy most SIBO and antimicrobial protocols relapse within monthsChapters0:00 Where Peak Week Goes Wrong: Fiber, Water and Digestion6:13 Show Day: Why You're Flat and What Actually Fixes It13:57 From Wrestling to Full-Time Coaching19:20 Competing Too Often, Blood Work and the Turn to Functional Health24:15 The Three Camps and the Evolution of Refeeds29:17 Refeeds Are Fatigue Reduction, Not Just Calories32:42 Cardio, Diet Leverage and Your Prep Starting Point40:40 Diet Diversity and Reintroducing Food45:31 Fiber Types, Dosing and Drew's 10g-to-70g Experiment52:11 Feeding Good Bacteria: Resistant Starch, Butyrate and SCFAs59:30 Why SIBO Protocols Keep Failing1:04:52 Where to Find AustinConnect with AustinInstagram – https://www.instagram.com/austinst8Linktree (coaching, mentorship, education, discount codes) – https://linktr.ee/austinst8Integrated Muscle & Health – https://intmuscle.com

Ethan Okunas makes the case that this is the wrong end of the equation entirely. Going from 10,000 to 50,000 steps buys you maybe 150 calories. A five-mile run, 300 or 400. Meanwhile GLP-1 drugs, which don't raise your metabolism at all, produce dramatic results through one mechanism only: they make you less hungry.Ethan is a registered dietitian who spent his first job out of school doing outpatient weight loss inside a hospital system, and watched the same thing happen over and over. People lost the weight. Then 75% of them had it back within a year and 95% within five. The calorie deficit worked and then it stopped working, and nobody could tell him why. This episode is his answer. Leptin is the hormone that counts your stored energy and sets your appetite accordingly, and most people's count is wrong — which is what leptin resistance actually is. Leptin runs on a 24-hour clock that only stays synchronized if you see the sunrise. Ethan walks through the five levers that restore leptin sensitivity, the study showing that morning light raises leptin and lowers ghrelin even after a terrible night of sleep, and why the DHA in your eyes determines how much you actually get out of the sun you're standing in.From there it goes deeper: how mitochondria turn a burger into electrons and protons, Gilbert Ling's argument that we don't make enough ATP to power ourselves, structured water as the body's real battery, why arterial plaque may be an exclusion zone problem, and the deuterium story — why the extra neutron in heavy hydrogen jams the ATP motor, why eating a pineapple in a New York winter is a mitochondrial problem, and why deuterium-depleted water is a prescribed cancer therapy in parts of Europe.KEY TAKEAWAYS:GLP-1s don't raise your metabolism — appetite suppression is the whole mechanism, which is exactly why the weight comes backThe five levers that restore leptin sensitivity, in the order Ethan prioritizes themThe study nobody cites: morning sunlight raises leptin and lowers ghrelin even after a poor night of sleepWhy the DHA in your eye membranes decides how much usable signal you extract from the same sunlightDeuterium, the ATP motor, and the practical ways to lower it without buying $10-a-bottle waterCHAPTERS:0:00 Why fat loss isn't a calorie-burning problem1:27 GLP-1s prove appetite is the whole game3:12 Leptin, and what leptin resistance really is5:50 Sunrise, photons, and the 24-hour clock8:52 DHA, seed oils, and the rest of the leptin levers16:24 Ethan's story and the 95% regain problem25:03 What "quantum" actually means27:16 Mitochondria, ATP, and the battery you didn't know you had33:58 EMFs, voltage, and structured water44:03 Deuterium and the marble in the hose48:20 How to lower deuterium (mostly for free)54:41 The 80/20 rule, the toxins everyone forgets, and where to find EthanConnect with Ethan Okunas:Instagram: @quantum.dietitianWebsite and books: https://quantumdietitian.comBooks: Quantum Nutrition and Quantum Weight Loss (buy direct through the site — ebook buyers get edition updates free)Coaching: DM on InstagramBooks mentioned in this episode:The Fourth Phase of Water — Gerald PollackThe Invisible Rainbow — Arthur FirstenbergThe Rainbow and the Worm — Mae-Wan HoHealth and Light — John OttUnderstanding the Heart — Stephen HusseyLife on the Edge — Jim Al-Khalili and Johnjoe McFadden

He is also one of the very few people at that level who will tell you out loud which of his own published positions he no longer holds. People still quote articles he wrote thirteen years ago back at him as though nothing has changed. What he does with that is the most useful thing in this episode. What follows is a conversation about what to remove. The last rep of every set. The volume. The drop sets and intensifiers he built his early career on. The surplus. Most of the fat in his diet. The cycles — he hasn't run one in eleven years and still gets accused of lying about it every week. And most of the peptides currently on the market, which is the part that should stop you, because Paul is affiliated with a peptide company and will still tell you to wait. He gets into why he pulled a client off a fat-loss protocol he had already bought for her, what happened when a peptide genuinely worked on his knee and it still didn't matter, and why he thinks this boom looks exactly like the last one. Somewhere in the middle he explains how leaving a single rep on the table broke a plateau he'd been stuck on for years.5 Key TakeawaysWhy judging a coach by their physique is the most expensive mistake in training, and what to look at insteadThe training frequency ceiling almost nobody talks about, and the recovery window that explains why it existsWhat happened to Paul's progressive overload the month he stopped chasing the final grinding repWhy you can build muscle just as fast at maintenance as you can in a surplus, and where the "small surplus" argument falls apartThe two things outside the gym Paul thinks move the needle more than any supplement, and why both are freeChapters0:00 Why Smart Lifters Still Get It Wrong4:31 Paul's Background and the Mentzer Lineage11:18 Arthur Jones to Dorian Yates15:45 Frequency and the Growth Window19:14 Why He Stopped Training to Failure22:35 High Reps, Supersets and Blood Flow Restriction27:46 Mesocycles, Rotation and Burnout32:45 Cutting, Maintenance and the Surplus Myth39:31 How Low Should Fat Intake Go42:37 The Keto Cult and What It Cost47:01 Peptides and Wait-and-See Mode51:48 The Two Things Nobody Optimizes55:19 John Meadows Stories1:01:12 Message Boards vs Modern Social Media1:07:09 Where to Find PaulConnect with PaulInstagram – https://www.instagram.com/liftrunbang1Website – https://www.liftrunbang1.comTraining groups (Yoke Buds, Yoke Squad, Garage Gangsters, The Valkyrie, Iron Pulse, plus all-access) – https://www.liftrunbang1.com

We break down the real mechanistic differences between semaglutide, tirzepatide, and retatrutide (and why stacking GIP with glucagon suppression changes everything), why retatrutide's aggressive fat-burning comes with a real cost — elevated heart rate, HRV crashing, and in some of Jason's female and perimenopausal clients, lost muscle instead of fat — and why the "strongest" drug isn't automatically the right one for your hormone profile. Jason also breaks down his own experience pairing GLP-1s with small-dose fast-acting insulin, his tapering protocol for coming off after hitting a goal, and why he considers GLP-1 + HRT one of the most underused combinations for menopausal and andropausal clients. Alongside his coach Dom Kuza, a prep-and-healthspan specialist who has taken clients from an eGFR of 40 back to 110, Paul walks through the aggressive SS-31 and MOTS-c protocol that made the prep so smooth, the reflux and vomiting that quietly escalated into a 3AM hospital call, and the bloodwork that made the whole thing a mystery. Here's the part that'll get you: his liver panel came back almost clean while he was on orals — so what nearly ended him? This is the rare enhanced-athlete conversation that isn't about pushing harder. It's about knowing when to pull the plug, why "I'll die early, it was worth it" is a story these two refuse to accept anymore, and how Paul walked away from bodybuilding at 27 with markers most naturals would envy. If you compete, coach, or run anything on cycle, this one could save you a hospital visit.KEY TAKEAWAYS:Why a near-flawless prep still had to be called off — and the exact symptom that forced the decisionThe bloodwork lesson most coaches miss: why "normal" liver enzymes can hide the real problem, and where to actually lookDom's sequencing logic for priming hard responders before an aggressive diet — and why order mattersThe allostatic-load explanation behind the reflux, plus the cheap gut-repair stack that finally fixed itThe longevity case against "dying early is the price" — and why walking away at 27 was the smartest rep of his career

In this episode, he breaks down why most people's training is Instagram mimicry running on guesswork, and what it looks like to run your body like an operating system instead: assess the limiters, test readiness daily, and let the data decide how hard you push.Phil lays out the exact readiness tests he uses every morning — including a 60-second check you can do with an ice bucket — plus the red/yellow/green system that tells you when to push and when to back off, why how fast your heart rate drops matters more than how high it climbs, and the one mistake with ice baths that quietly blunts your gains.
