  • 209- 5 Things Your Body Is Trying to Tell You (And How to Start Listening) 18.09.2026 28dk
“Listen to your body.” Okay…sounds great. But what the heck are you actually supposed to be listening FOR? 😂 We hear phrases like “listen to your body,” “connect with your core,” and “pay attention to your symptoms” all the time—but if no one has ever taught you how to do that, those words aren't very helpful. In this episode of Pelvic Floor, Core & More, we're making it practical. I'm walking you through five things you can start paying attention to—your breath, symptoms, tension, movement, and recovery—to better understand what your body may be communicating. And no, this isn't about analyzing every little sensation or trying to immediately FIX everything you notice. It's about getting curious. Because when we stop treating every symptom like an isolated problem and start looking at the bigger picture, our bodies can begin to make a whole lot more sense. In This Episode We Explore What “listening to your body” actually means Why noticing should often come before correcting What your breathing patterns can tell you How to get curious about symptoms instead of immediately labeling them as “bad” Why tension isn't automatically a problem The difference between finding the “perfect” movement and giving your body more movement options Why what happens AFTER exercise or activity matters too How your breath, symptoms, tension, movement, and recovery can influence one another Why pelvic floor health is about so much more than Kegels A simple way to start understanding your body without becoming overwhelmed Why This Matters Most of us have gotten really good at trying to fix our bodies. Something hurts? Make it stop. You leak? Strengthen your pelvic floor. Your posture doesn't look right? Correct it. An exercise feels weird? Find a different one. But when we're constantly trying to change the signal before we understand it, we may miss valuable information. Your body isn't a collection of completely separate parts. Your breathing, movement, tension, symptoms, recovery, pelvic floor, and core are all part of a much bigger conversation. Understanding those connections doesn't mean you have to know exactly what every sensation means. It means you can start asking better questions. The Big Takeaway This week, don't try to pay attention to EVERYTHING. Choose one thing. Maybe you notice what happens to your breath when you lift something heavy. Maybe you catch yourself gripping your belly while you're working. Maybe you start noticing exactly when your bladder urgency appears. Maybe you pay attention to how your body feels the day after a workout. Then: Notice → Get Curious → Gather Information. You don't even have to change it yet. Because sometimes the first step toward changing what your body is doing is simply understanding what it's already trying to tell you. Understanding comes before changing. 🌿 Ready to Understand the Bigger Picture? This is exactly why I created Healing Beyond Kegels, my FREE pelvic floor masterclass coming this October. Pelvic floor healing has been reduced to “just do your Kegels” for far too long. Inside Healing Beyond Kegels, we'll zoom out and look at how your pelvic floor, core, breath, pressure, and movement work together—so you can stop guessing about what your body needs and start understanding the bigger picture. My goal? For you to walk away thinking: “OH. My body finally makes more sense.” Keep following along and make sure you're on my email list so you'll be one of the first to know when Healing Beyond Kegels is ready. 💛 However, you can download the Pelvic Floor, Core & More App NOW so you are already inside when it comes out! • 208- Connected Through Menopause Ep 2: Why Am I Suddenly Leaking? // Understanding Bladder Changes During Menopause 14.09.2026 24dk
You used to be able to jump, sneeze, run, or make it home from Target without thinking twice about your bladder… And now? You’re leaking. You’re peeing “just in case.” You know exactly where every bathroom is. Or the second you pull into your driveway your bladder suddenly decides THIS IS AN EMERGENCY. 😂 What the heck changed?! In Part 2 of the Connected Through Menopause series, we’re talking specifically about the bladder changes that can show up—or become more noticeable—during perimenopause and menopause. And while hormonal changes can absolutely be part of the conversation, they aren’t necessarily the whole story. We’re talking about different types of bladder symptoms, some of the habits we develop in response to those symptoms, and why blindly adding more Kegels isn't always the answer. Most importantly, I want you to walk away knowing that while bladder changes may be common during this season of life, common does not mean you simply have to accept them. In This Episode We Explore Why bladder symptoms may appear or change during perimenopause and menopause Why leaking isn't the only bladder symptom worth paying attention to The difference between leaking with coughing, sneezing, jumping or exercise and that sudden “I HAVE TO GO” urgency How hormonal and tissue changes can play a role in urinary symptoms Why menopause isn't necessarily the entire explanation How habits like peeing “just in case,” restricting fluids, constantly bracing, or avoiding movement can become part of the bigger picture Why the same symptom doesn't always mean the same solution Why “just do Kegels” may be missing important information What your bladder patterns may be telling you How to start getting curious about your symptoms instead of assuming they're just part of getting older Why This Matters One of the biggest things I want women to stop believing is: “Well, I guess this is just what happens when you get older.” Yes, your body changes during perimenopause and menopause. And yes, those changes can affect your bladder, pelvic floor, vaginal and urinary tissues, strength, and the way your body responds to movement. But experiencing a common symptom doesn't mean you have to ignore it. It also doesn't mean every woman experiencing leaking or urgency needs the exact same solution. If two women are both leaking, but their bodies, symptoms, habits, movement patterns, and circumstances are different… Why would we automatically give them the same exercise? Understanding what's actually happening gives us much better information about what your body may need. The Big Takeaway Instead of immediately trying to fix your bladder this week, become a bladder detective. 🕵️‍♀️ Start noticing: When does urgency show up? When do you leak? Does it happen with coughing, sneezing, lifting, jumping or running? Are you going to the bathroom because you actually need to—or because you happen to see one? 😂 Are you constantly peeing “just in case”? Are you holding your breath or gripping during the movements that trigger symptoms? Have your symptoms recently changed? You don't need to obsess over every trip to the bathroom. We're simply looking for patterns. Because your symptoms are information. And once we understand the information, we can make more intentional decisions about what to do with it. Understand before you strengthen. 🌿 Ready to Understand the Bigger Picture? If you're listening to this thinking: “Okay…but how do I know what's actually happening in MY body?” That's exactly why I created Healing Beyond Kegels. Healing Beyond Kegels is my FREE pelvic floor masterclass designed to help you stop guessing, Googling random exercises, and wondering whether you're doing everything right—and start understanding the bigger picture of how your pelvic floor, core, breath, movement, and body work together. Because your pelvic floor isn't working alone. And healing is about so much more than finding the “perfect” Kegel. 🌿 Healing Beyon
  • 207- Stop Trying to Fix Your Posture // Start Listening to Your Body 01.09.2026 21dk
Sit up straight. Pull your shoulders back. Tuck your pelvis. Engage your core. Stop slouching. Sound familiar? 😂 We've been taught to think about posture as either “good” or “bad”—and that if we could just hold our bodies in the right position, we'd somehow prevent pain, improve our core, and protect our pelvic floor. But what if there isn't one perfect posture your body is supposed to maintain? In this episode, we're shifting the conversation away from correcting your posture and toward getting curious about how different positions actually feel in your body. Because your position can change the way you breathe, move, create tension, manage pressure, and even experience your pelvic floor. And those changes? They're information. In This Episode We Explore Why I'm not a huge fan of labeling posture as “good” or “bad” How different body positions can change what you feel Why posture can influence your breath, core, pressure, movement, and pelvic floor experience What gripping and trying to hold “perfect posture” can actually feel like Why having more movement options may matter more than maintaining one ideal position How to start noticing your body without immediately trying to correct it A simple experiment you can use to explore different positions Why your pelvic floor doesn't function in isolation from the rest of your body How curiosity and connection can help you make more intentional choices about movement Why This Matters If you've ever caught yourself slouching and immediately thought: “Ugh. My posture is terrible.” I want you to try something different. Instead of judging the position, notice what happens there. How does your breath feel? Where is your weight? Are you gripping anywhere? What happens if you shift your position? Does anything feel different? You don't need to grade your posture. You need to start understanding how your body responds to different positions. Because your body wasn't designed to find one “perfect” position and stay there all day. Your body was designed to have options. The Big Takeaway Your posture isn't something you need to perfect. It's something you can explore. The next time you notice yourself sitting or standing a certain way, don't immediately correct it. Try: NOTICE → CHANGE → NOTICE AGAIN Change one thing. Shift your weight. Move your pelvis. Change the position of your ribs. Take a breath. Then ask: “What changed?” Not: “Which position was right?” That small shift takes you out of judgment and into curiosity. And curiosity is one of the first steps toward building a better connection with your body. Your next posture may be more important than your perfect posture. 🌿 Ready to See the Bigger Picture? If you've been listening to the podcast lately, you've probably noticed a theme. The exercise isn't the whole story. Pain isn't the whole story. Posture isn't the whole story. And your pelvic floor isn't the whole story either. Your body is connected in ways that can completely change how you understand your symptoms, movement, and healing. And that's exactly what I'm bringing together for you inside Healing Beyond Kegels. It's a FREE masterclass I created to help you stop chasing random exercises and conflicting advice and start understanding the bigger picture of pelvic floor healing. Healing Beyond Kegels is coming very soon! Make sure you're on my email list so you'll be one of the first to know when it's ready. Until then, remember: Connection First. • 206- Your Pain Is Talking // Should I Push Through This? And How to Respond When Movement Hurts 26.08.2026 27dk
What do you do when your body says, “Ouch”? Do you immediately stop because you're afraid something is wrong? Or do you ignore it, push through, and hope it goes away? Pain can feel scary and confusing—especially when you're trying to heal, get stronger, or return to activities you love. But pain isn't always a simple stop sign. Pain is communication. And communication needs interpretation. In this episode, we're talking about shifting the way we respond to pain. Instead of immediately fearing it or ignoring it, what if we learned to get curious about what our bodies are trying to tell us? Because listening to your body doesn't always mean stopping. Sometimes it means adjusting. Sometimes it means resting. Sometimes it means getting help. And sometimes it means realizing you're okay to keep going. In This Episode We Explore Why we tend to either fear pain or ignore it Why pain doesn't always equal damage How factors beyond an injury can influence the pain experience Why the behavior of your pain can give you useful information Questions to ask yourself when something hurts The difference between normal exercise challenge and ignoring your body's signals A simple green-light, yellow-light, red-light way to think about symptoms How modifying a movement can help you learn more about what your body needs Why connection and body awareness can build confidence instead of fear Why This Matters When something hurts, it's easy to immediately think: “Something is wrong.” But it's also easy to swing too far in the opposite direction and decide: “I'll just push through it.” Neither response leaves much room for listening. Learning to pay attention to what you're feeling, when you're feeling it, how long it lasts, and what changes it can help you make more intentional decisions about movement. The goal isn't to become afraid of every sensation. And it isn't to ignore your body's signals in the name of getting stronger. It's learning the difference between challenging your body and ignoring your body. The Big Takeaway The next time something hurts during movement, instead of immediately asking: “Is this bad?” Try asking: “What is my body asking me to notice right now?” Then: Pause. Notice. Adjust. Reassess. Maybe your body needs you to change the range, load, speed, position, or breath. Maybe it needs recovery. Maybe it needs professional evaluation. Or maybe after checking in, you realize you're okay to continue. Listening doesn't always mean stopping. It means responding. And the better you become at listening, the more confidently you can make decisions about your body. Ready to Understand the Bigger Picture? If you've been listening to the last few episodes, you're probably noticing a theme: I don't want you endlessly searching for someone to give you the perfect exercise. I want you to understand the body you're actually living in. That's a huge reason I created Healing Beyond Kegels. Pelvic floor symptoms aren't simply problems we throw exercises at. Your breath, pressure, core, movement, strength, stress, nervous system, and the rest of your body are all part of the conversation. Healing Beyond Kegels is designed to help you zoom out, connect those dots, and start understanding your body differently. It's coming soon, and I can't wait to share it with you. Until then, remember: Connection first. Intention over perfection. 💛 This episode is for general education and isn't a substitute for individualized medical care. New, severe, rapidly worsening, or otherwise concerning pain should be evaluated by an appropriate healthcare professional. Want More Support? • 205- Why I Told My Patient I Didn't Care What Exercise She Did And What I Cared About More to Stop Her Leaking 19.08.2026 20dk
What if finding the “perfect” exercise isn't actually the thing that moves you forward? I recently told a patient that I didn't really care what exercise she did—which probably sounds like a strange thing to hear from a physical therapist! But what I meant was that I cared far less about choosing the perfect exercise and far more about what was happening in her body while she was doing it. In this episode, we're talking about why two people can do the exact same exercise and have completely different experiences—and why learning to notice your breath, pressure, tension, symptoms, and overall connection can be more valuable than constantly searching for the “right” movement. Because the goal isn't perfect exercise. It's learning how to move with intention, awareness, and confidence. In This Episode We Explore Why I told a patient I didn't care what exercise she chose Why we get so caught up searching for the “best” pelvic floor or core exercise How the same movement can look completely different inside two different bodies What I'm actually paying attention to when I watch a patient move The relationship between breath, pressure, tension, symptoms, and movement Why intention over perfection matters How awareness helps you make better decisions about your body Why learning to listen to your body can ultimately build confidence and trust A simple way to approach an exercise you're already doing differently this week Why This Matters When you're dealing with leaking, pelvic pressure, pain, core weakness, or simply trying to get stronger, it's easy to believe there's a specific exercise you're missing. But healing isn't about collecting more exercises. It's about understanding you. When you learn to notice how your body responds during movement, you can begin making adjustments instead of immediately assuming an exercise is “good” or “bad.” And over time, that awareness can help you move away from fear and toward something much more powerful: trusting yourself to move. Ready to Understand the Bigger Picture? This connection-first approach is one of the reasons I created Healing Beyond Kegels. Pelvic floor healing isn't just about finding the right Kegel, core exercise, or stretch. Your breath, core, pelvic floor, pressure, movement patterns, nervous system, and the rest of your body are all part of the conversation. Healing Beyond Kegels will help you zoom out and understand how those pieces work together—so you can stop chasing random exercises and start making sense of what your body is actually telling you. • 204- Why Does My Body Feel So Different? // Understanding Your Pelvic Floor During Perimenopause and Menopause 14.08.2026 21dk
Have you noticed your bladder, core, or pelvic floor changing during perimenopause or menopause? Maybe you're experiencing leaking, urgency, heaviness, discomfort, or feeling like your body just doesn't respond the way it used to. If so, you're not alone—and you're certainly not broken. In today's episode, we're talking about what actually happens to the pelvic floor during perimenopause and menopause, why these changes occur, and most importantly, what you can do to continue feeling strong, confident, and supported through this new season of life. In This Episode, We Explore: What happens to your body during perimenopause and menopause How hormonal changes affect your pelvic floor, core, and bladder Common symptoms women experience during midlife The biggest misconceptions about pelvic floor health after menopause Practical ways to support your body through strength, movement, nutrition, and recovery Why it's never too late to improve your pelvic floor health Why This Matters Many women assume leaking, pelvic pressure, or pain are simply "part of getting older." While hormonal changes absolutely influence our tissues and muscles, they don't mean you have to accept symptoms as your new normal. Understanding what's happening inside your body empowers you to make intentional choices that support long-term strength, function, and confidence. Big Takeaway Menopause isn't the end of your strength—it's the beginning of a new chapter. Your body may need a different approach than it did in your 20s or 30s, but healing, strength, and confidence are absolutely still possible. • 203- Feeling Like a Bum This Summer? Here's How to Reconnect and Get Back on Track Without Starting Over 05.08.2026 29dk
Has summer completely thrown off your routine? Between vacations, busy schedules, kids being home, and all the fun (and chaos!) that comes with this season, it's easy to feel like you've fallen behind on your health goals. If you've been feeling guilty, unmotivated, or like you're starting over, this episode is for you. Today, we're shifting the conversation from "getting back on track" to reconnecting with your body through small, intentional steps that build lasting momentum. In This Episode, We Explore: Why summer doesn't erase your progress The difference between restarting and reconnecting How guilt and perfectionism keep us feeling stuck Why small, intentional habits create bigger results than all-or-nothing thinking Simple ways to reconnect with your body after a busy season How to build momentum without overwhelm Why This Matters So many women believe they've "failed" because life got busy or their routine changed. But healing, fitness, and health aren't about being perfect—they're about learning how to return to yourself again and again. Your body hasn't forgotten everything you've worked for. With the right mindset and a few intentional steps, you can rebuild consistency with confidence instead of guilt. Big Takeaway You don't need to start over—you simply need to reconnect. One intentional choice today is far more powerful than waiting for the "perfect" Monday. Your body isn't asking for perfection. It's asking for consistency, compassion, and connection. • 202- Summer End Up Chaotic? How to End With More Regulation, Connection & Fun Without a Perfect Schedule 29.07.2026 40dk
Did anyone else start summer with good intentions and then suddenly realize things felt a little chaotic? Between camps, vacations, changing schedules, kids being home more often, and trying to juggle work, family, and self-care, summer can quickly become overwhelming. While many of us crave structure, the reality is that summer rarely follows a perfectly organized schedule. The good news? Your nervous system doesn't need perfection. It needs predictability. In this episode, Dr. Des shares practical ways to create more regulation, connection, and enjoyment during the summer months without relying on rigid routines or unrealistic expectations. We'll discuss why summer can feel dysregulating, how flexible rhythms can support both parents and children, and simple ways to create more calm and fun in everyday life. In This Episode, We Explore: ☀️ Why summer can feel surprisingly overwhelming ☀️ How changes in routine impact the nervous system ☀️ The difference between rigid schedules and flexible rhythms ☀️ Why predictability helps children and adults feel more regulated ☀️ How overstimulation and mental load affect moms ☀️ Simple "anchor points" that can bring more calm to your day ☀️ The connection between nervous system regulation and pelvic floor health ☀️ Why fun, play, and connection matter for overall well-being ☀️ Practical ways to support yourself during a busy season Why This Matters When life feels chaotic, our bodies often respond by holding more tension, breathing more shallowly, sleeping less, and feeling more overwhelmed. This can impact everything from energy levels and stress management to pelvic floor symptoms and overall health. Creating small moments of predictability and connection can help support both physical and emotional well-being throughout the summer months. The Big Takeaway Your family doesn't need a perfect summer. They need a connected, present, and regulated version of you. Instead of chasing the perfect schedule, focus on creating simple rhythms that support your nervous system and leave room for spontaneity, fun, and meaningful connection. 🎉 Celebrating 200 Episodes! • 201- The Hidden Connection Between POTS, MCAS, Hypermobility, Pelvic Venous Disorder & Pelvic Floor Dysfunction 21.07.2026 37dk
Have you ever felt like your symptoms are all over the place? Dizziness when standing. Racing heart. Pelvic pain. Bladder issues. Digestive symptoms. Fatigue. Pelvic pressure. Anxiety-like symptoms. What if these seemingly unrelated symptoms were actually connected? In this episode, Dr. Des explores the growing recognition of the relationship between Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), Pelvic Venous Disorder (PeVD), hypermobility, and pelvic floor dysfunction. While these conditions are often treated separately, many women experience overlapping symptoms that can leave them feeling frustrated, dismissed, and searching for answers. We'll discuss how connective tissue, the nervous system, circulation, and pelvic floor function may all play a role in the bigger picture—and why a whole-body approach is often essential for lasting improvement. Whether you've been diagnosed with one of these conditions, suspect you may be dealing with symptoms, or simply want to better understand your body, this episode is packed with valuable information and validation. In This Episode, We Explore: 💛 What POTS is and common symptoms associated with dysautonomia 💛 What MCAS is and how mast cells affect multiple body systems 💛 What Pelvic Venous Disorder (PeVD) is and why it is often overlooked 💛 The role connective tissue and hypermobility may play 💛 Why pelvic floor symptoms are so common in these populations 💛 The connection between circulation, pressure management, and pelvic health 💛 Why strengthening alone isn't always the answer 💛 How nervous system regulation and whole-body care can support recovery 💛 When it may be appropriate to seek additional evaluation or support Why This Matters Many women spend years trying to piece together symptoms that seem unrelated. Unfortunately, many are told their symptoms are "just stress" or "just anxiety" without receiving a full explanation of what may be happening in their bodies. Understanding the connections between these conditions can help women feel validated, empowered, and better equipped to advocate for their health. The Big Takeaway Your symptoms may not be random. Sometimes they're clues pointing toward a bigger picture. When we begin looking at the body as an interconnected system rather than isolated parts, we often uncover opportunities for healing, support, and better symptom management. 🎉 Celebrating 200 Episodes! The Pelvic Floor, Core & More Podcast is approaching its 200th episode, and I couldn't be more grateful for this amazing community. • 200- Hypermobility & Pelvic Floor Issues // Why Being Flexible Isn't Always an Advantage 10.07.2026 27dk
Have you always been the "flexible" one? And/Or Do you have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS)? Can you easily touch your palms to the floor, bend into unusual positions, or feel like your joints are extra loose? While flexibility is often seen as a good thing, hypermobility can come with its own unique challenges—especially when it comes to pelvic floor health, core stability, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and chronic pain. In this episode, Dr. Des explores the often-overlooked connection between hypermobility and pelvic floor dysfunction, why many hypermobile women experience symptoms such as leaking, prolapse, pelvic pain, and instability, and what they can do to better support their bodies. If you've ever felt like you're constantly stretching but still feel tight, this episode may explain why. In This Episode, We Explore: 🦓 What hypermobility actually is 🦓 Why hypermobility is more common in women 🦓 Common symptoms associated with hypermobility 🦓 The connection between hypermobility and pelvic floor dysfunction 🦓 Why hypermobile people often feel tight despite being flexible 🦓 Why stretching isn't always the answer 🦓 How strength, stability, and coordination support hypermobile bodies 🦓 Practical strategies for improving pelvic floor and core function Why This Matters Many hypermobile women spend years feeling confused about their symptoms. They may be told to stretch more, do more yoga, or simply accept discomfort as normal. But hypermobility often requires a different approach. Building strength, improving joint stability, enhancing body awareness, and learning how to manage load can make a significant difference in symptoms and overall function. The Big Takeaway You can be both flexible and tight at the same time. For many hypermobile women, the answer isn't more stretching—it's more support. Your body isn't broken. It may simply need a different strategy. 🎉 Celebrating 200 Episodes! The Pelvic Floor, Core & More Podcast is approaching its 200th episode, and I wanted to celebrate with all of you who have listened, shared episodes, left reviews, and supported this community along the way. • 199- Returning to Running Postpartum // When Is It Safe & How Do You Know You're Ready? 01.07.2026 24dk
One of the most common questions new moms ask is: "When can I start running again after having a baby?" The answer isn't always as simple as being cleared at your six-week postpartum appointment. Running places significant demands on your pelvic floor, core, hips, and entire body. While many women are eager to return to the activities they love, returning too quickly—or without a plan—can contribute to symptoms such as leaking, pelvic pressure, heaviness, pain, or feelings of instability. In this episode, Dr. Des breaks down what postpartum women should consider before returning to running, common signs your body may need more preparation, and practical strategies to help you return safely and confidently. Whether you're six weeks postpartum, six months postpartum, or several years postpartum and still struggling with symptoms while running, this episode is for you. In This Episode, We Explore: 🏃‍♀️ Why running is more demanding than many women realize 🏃‍♀️ Why "cleared" doesn't always mean "ready" 🏃‍♀️ Common signs your body may need more preparation before running 🏃‍♀️ Pelvic floor symptoms to watch for 🏃‍♀️ Strength and movement benchmarks before returning to impact 🏃‍♀️ How to safely progress back into running 🏃‍♀️ The role of core, glute, and pelvic floor strength 🏃‍♀️ Common mistakes women make when returning to running postpartum Why This Matters Returning to running is not simply about waiting for tissues to heal. It's about rebuilding strength, pressure management, endurance, coordination, and impact tolerance. A thoughtful progression can help reduce symptoms, build confidence, and create a stronger foundation for long-term success. The Big Takeaway Your body isn't behind. You don't need to rush. Running is a progression—not a milestone. With the right preparation and support, you can return to running feeling strong, confident, and connected to your body. Need Support? • 198- Summer Exercise Snacks // How to Stay Strong Without Spending Hours Working Out 24.06.2026 27dk
Summer schedules can be chaotic. Between kids being home, camps, vacations, sports, travel, and all the fun that comes with this season, finding time for a full workout can feel impossible. The good news? You don't need an hour-long gym session to support your health. In this episode, Dr. Des introduces the concept of "exercise snacks" — short bursts of intentional movement sprinkled throughout your day that can help you stay strong, consistent, and connected to your body all summer long. We discuss simple ways to incorporate breathwork, mobility, core work, walking, and strength into your daily routine without the pressure of a perfect workout schedule. If you've ever thought, "I'll get back into my routine after summer," this episode is for you. In This Episode, We Explore: ☀️ What exercise snacks are and why they work ☀️ Why consistency matters more than long workouts ☀️ My favorite 3-10 minute movement ideas for busy moms ☀️ How exercise snacks can support your pelvic floor and core ☀️ Easy ways to build movement into your day ☀️ Why all-or-nothing thinking keeps so many women stuck ☀️ How to create a realistic summer movement routine Why This Matters Your body doesn't need perfection. It needs consistency. Movement doesn't have to happen in a gym or require a full hour of uninterrupted time to be effective. Small, intentional moments of movement throughout your day can improve strength, mobility, energy, stress levels, and overall pelvic floor function. Summer doesn't have to be a season where you lose progress or put your health on hold. It can be a season where you learn to work with your life instead of against it. The Big Takeaway You don't need more time. You need more opportunities. Five intentional minutes count. A quick walk counts. A short mobility session counts. A few strength exercises while your kids play count. The goal isn't perfection — it's staying connected to your body. Want Support This Summer? • 197- What Your Rib Cage Has to Do With Leaking, Diastasis & Core Weakness 17.06.2026 21dk
Most women think of their core as their abs—but your core is so much more than that. Your rib cage, diaphragm, pelvic floor, and abdominal wall all work together as a pressure management system. When one piece isn't functioning well, the entire system can struggle. In this episode, Dr. Des dives into one of the most overlooked components of core and pelvic floor health: the rib cage. We discuss how pregnancy, postpartum recovery, stress, posture, and even modern lifestyles can impact rib mobility, breathing mechanics, and ultimately your ability to generate strength and support. If you've been dealing with core weakness, pelvic floor symptoms, diastasis recti, chronic tension, or feel like you've hit a plateau in your recovery, this episode may help uncover a missing piece of the puzzle. In This Episode, We Explore: ✨ Why your rib cage is an important part of your core system ✨ How breathing, posture, and pressure management are connected ✨ The effects of pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and stress on rib mobility ✨ Common signs your rib cage may not be moving well ✨ The difference between rib flare and healthy rib movement ✨ How rib mobility affects your pelvic floor and core function ✨ Simple exercises to improve rib cage mobility and breathing Why This Matters A strong core isn't just about stronger abs. Your ability to breathe, rotate, move, and manage pressure all depend on how well your rib cage and diaphragm function within the larger core system. Improving rib mobility can often improve breathing, reduce tension, enhance core activation, and help your body move more efficiently. This whole-body approach is exactly what we focus on inside the Pelvic Floor, Core & More App and RESTORE, where we address the entire pressure management system—not just the symptoms. ✨ Learn more here: https://balancedmomtality.com/the-app If this episode helped you think differently about your core, share it with a friend who's been working on her abs but may actually need to start with her ribs. 💛 Want a Guided Healing and Rehab Program to Help You Reconnect and RESTORE? • 196- Not All Breathing Is the Same // The Difference Between Breathwork and Breathing for Core Strength 12.06.2026 27dk
If you've ever been told to "just breathe" for your pelvic floor, core, stress, or recovery... you may have wondered: What kind of breathing are we actually talking about? Because not all breathing serves the same purpose. In this episode, Dr. Des breaks down the important difference between breathwork for nervous system regulation and relaxation versus breathing within a brace for core strength, stability, and pressure management. You'll learn why both are valuable, when to use each, and why understanding the difference can be a game changer for pelvic floor health, exercise performance, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and everyday movement. If you've ever felt confused by conflicting advice around breathing, core engagement, or pelvic floor function, this episode will help connect the dots. In This Episode, We Explore: ✨ The difference between breathwork and breathing for stability ✨ How breathing affects the nervous system, stress, and muscle tension ✨ What "breathing within a brace" actually means ✨ Why relaxation and support are both important for pelvic floor health ✨ Common mistakes like breath holding, belly sucking, and over-bracing ✨ When to focus on nervous system regulation versus pressure management ✨ How breathing changes during exercise, lifting, running, and daily activities ✨ Why adaptability is the true goal for your core and pelvic floor   Why This Matters One of the biggest misconceptions in pelvic floor rehab is that there is one "right" way to breathe. In reality, your body needs different breathing strategies for different situations. Sometimes your nervous system needs relaxation and recovery. Other times your body needs stability, pressure management, and support. Learning how to move between those states is often the missing piece for women dealing with leaking, pelvic pain, prolapse, core weakness, tension, or difficulty returning to exercise.   The Big Takeaway The healthiest pelvic floor isn't always relaxed. And it isn't always braced. It's adaptable. Your body should be able to relax when it needs recovery and create support when life demands strength. That flexibility is what allows you to move, lift, exercise, parent, and live with confidence.   Want to Learn How to Apply This? • 192- Have Low Back or Pelvic Pain? // All About SIJ Dysfunction (And What to Do About It) 20.05.2026 32dk
Pain on one side of your low back? Sharp discomfort when rolling in bed, climbing stairs, getting out of the car, or carrying your baby? It might not be “just back pain.” In this episode, Dr. Des breaks down sacroiliac (SI) joint pain — a common but often misunderstood source of low back, buttock, hip, and pelvic pain, especially during pregnancy and postpartum. You’ll learn what the SI joint does, why women are particularly prone to SI joint dysfunction, how the pelvic floor and core play a crucial role in stability, and what strategies can help you feel stronger and move with less pain. If you’ve ever been told your pelvis is “out of alignment” or you’ve been stretching endlessly without lasting relief, this episode will help you understand what may really be going on. In This Episode, We Explore: What the sacroiliac (SI) joint is and why it matters Common symptoms of SI joint pain Why pregnancy and postpartum increase the risk of pelvic instability How the pelvic floor, core, and glutes support the SI joint The myth of being “out of alignment” Why stability often matters more than stretching Practical strategies to reduce SI joint pain and improve function When to seek pelvic floor physical therapy Common Symptoms of SI Joint Pain One-sided low back pain Pain near the dimples of the lower back Buttock or hip pain Groin pain Pain rolling in bed Pain with stairs or single-leg activities Pain when carrying your baby Discomfort during pregnancy or postpartum Why This Matters The SI joint serves as a key connection point between your spine and legs. • 191- Diastasis Recti (DRA) Rehab Beyond Core Strengthening // 3 Things You Need Besides Exercise to Actually Heal Your Core 14.05.2026 26dk
If you’ve been doing all the “right” core exercises for your diastasis recti… but your core still feels weak, domes, bulges, or disconnected — you may be missing some major pieces of the puzzle. Because healing diastasis recti is about so much more than just strengthening your abs. In this episode, Dr. Des breaks down three often-overlooked areas that can make a huge difference in core healing: fascial and soft tissue mobility, breathwork, and rib cage mobility. We discuss why these pieces matter, how they affect pressure and core function, and why exercise alone may not fully address the problem. If you’ve felt frustrated by slow progress, lingering weakness, or confusion around what actually helps diastasis heal, this conversation will help you better understand what your body may truly need.   In This Episode, We Explore: What diastasis recti actually is Why strengthening alone sometimes falls short The role of fascia and soft tissue mobility in core function How breathing patterns impact pressure and healing Why rib cage mobility matters more than most women realize What true “core healing” actually looks like Common mistakes women make during recovery Why This Matters: Your core is not just muscles — it’s a coordinated system involving your diaphragm, abdominal wall, pelvic floor, fascia, posture, and breath. When one part of the system is restricted or not functioning well, the body often compensates with gripping, pressure, or instability patterns that can keep women feeling stuck. This whole-body approach to healing is exactly what we focus on inside the Pelvic Floor, Core & More App and RESTORE, where women are guided through breathwork, mobility, strengthening, and pressure management in a way that actually supports long-term function.   ✨ Learn more here: https://balancedmomtality.com/the-app   Want a Guided Healing and Rehab Program to Help You Reconnect and RESTORE? • 190- Hysterectomy Recovery // What No One Tells You About Healing Your Core & Pelvic Floor After Surgery 07.05.2026 28dk
A hysterectomy is one of the most common surgeries women undergo — yet so many women are sent home with very little guidance on how to actually heal, rebuild strength, and reconnect with their body afterward. If you’ve ever felt weak, disconnected, tight, unstable, or unsure how to safely return to movement after a hysterectomy… this episode is for you. In this conversation, Dr. Des breaks down what really happens to the core, pelvic floor, scar tissue, and nervous system after surgery, why being “cleared” doesn’t always mean fully healed, and the key things women should understand when it comes to long-term recovery. Because hysterectomy recovery is about so much more than just the incision healing. In This Episode, We Explore: What actually needs to heal after a hysterectomy Common symptoms women experience after surgery Why scar tissue and pressure management matter The role of the core, breath, and pelvic floor in recovery What women are often not told about rehab How to safely rebuild strength and confidence Why rest alone is not the full answer Why This Matters Many women are told to simply wait six weeks and slowly return to normal activity — but true healing often requires more support, guidance, and intentional rehabilitation. With the right approach, women can improve strength, reduce symptoms, feel more connected to their body, and return to movement with greater confidence. This whole-body approach to healing is exactly what we focus on inside the Pelvic Floor, Core & More App and RESTORE, where women are guided through breathwork, mobility, strength, and pelvic floor-friendly progression designed to support real-life recovery. ✨ Learn more here: https://balancedmomtality.com/the-app   Want a Guided Healing and Rehab Program to Help You Reconnect and RESTORE?
