  • Overthinking, Obsessing, and the Real Reason You Can’t Stop Thinking About It 14.09.2026 25dk
You replay the conversation, reread the text 100 times, re-analyze the comment, Google the symptom, or fixate. The loop promises that if you think hard enough, you can prevent the bad outcome and finally feel safe. But Heather Creekmore explains that the real issue usually isn’t the topic of the thought. It’s the grip it has on your brain. Overthinking often reveals a deeper desire for control and safety, especially when life feels uncertain. In this episode: Why overthinking can feel productive, responsible, or even spiritual at 06:08 How body-image obsession can become an attempt to control one small part of life when everything else feels uncertain at 08:38 Why telling yourself to “stop thinking about it” usually doesn’t work at 12:10 What Martha’s story teaches about setting down the need to hold everything alone  How to exchange a posture of control for a posture of trust  Why obsessive thoughts grow stronger in isolation  Five ways to interrupt the loop - and none of them sound like "just stop thinking about it." A super practical, physical practice for surrender you can start using today! Mentioned in this episode: The final 40-Day Journey starts Monday, September 14th. Join here. • Be Her: What Ella Langley's Song Reveals About Idolizing Our Ideal Selves 08.09.2026 21dk
Ella Langley's country song "Be Her" describes a woman who seems to have it all figured out — grounded, secure, at peace — and an aching desire to become her. At first blush it sounds like a song about envying someone else. Yet, the lyrics aren't describing another woman; Langley sings about the version of herself she wishes she could become. In this episode, we use that ache as a lens on one of the sneakiest idols we build: not comparing ourselves to an influencer or a stranger, but to an idealized version of ourselves. It's a "her" that stays just out of reach. We talk about why that chase can never actually deliver peace, what Scripture says about being transformed into an image that isn't self-made. To have this kind of ache is human, but there's only one place the ache can be cured. Key Scripture references: 1 Samuel 16:7 (man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart) Romans 12:2 (do not be conformed, but transformed) 2 Corinthians 3:18 (being transformed into his image, from one degree of glory to another) Colossians 3:3 (your life is hidden with Christ in God) Ephesians 2:10 (we are his workmanship) Discussion questions for listeners / community: If you pictured your idealized self right now, what would she look like? What is she doing that you're not? What peace or security do you think "becoming her" would actually give you? Name it specifically. Where have you been conforming to a self-made image instead of letting yourself be transformed? What would it look like this week to bring your ache for peace directly to God instead of to another round of self-improvement? A note on the source material: This episode discusses themes and reported artist commentary about Ella Langley's song "Be Her" (from her 2026 album Dandelion) but does not reproduce song lyrics. Listeners are encouraged to listen to the song themselves for the full experience. Today’s conversation explores the profound and transformative topic of DELIGHT—what it means to truly delight in God and, perhaps even harder to believe, what it means that God DELIGHTS in you. Our special guest, Stephanie Rousselle of Gospel Spice, is a Bible teacher, author, and founder of the Gospel Spice ministry. With her signature warmth (and lovely French accent!), she unpacks how the Christian faith is meant to be both flavorful and vibrant—not bland, boring, or stale. In This Episode: What is REAL delight?Stephanie Rousseau explains how the French word "délice" weaves together both "delight" and "deliciousness," inviting us to taste and see the goodness of God (04:23). The problem with vanilla testimonies:Heather Creekmore shares how she used to think her story was “vanilla,” and how Stephanie  reframes the idea that every faith story is a reason for delight (05:45). Eating disorders & delight:Why is it so hard for many women to see deliciousness as a good gift from God? Learn how our relationship with food often mirrors our relationship with delight, shame, and God (06:43). “Awaken Delight”—Satisfying Your Soul’s Longing for God:Discover why Stephanie chose the phrase “awaken delight” and how this perspective moves us from duty to genuine enjoyment of God (10:53). • Body Image Issues Aren't Your Thorn —They're Something the Gospel Can Actually Cure 25.08.2026 35dk
Have you heard it or said it? Maybe your body image issues are "your thorn in the flesh." It sounds comforting, but is it actually true? In this episode, we take a close look at what Paul's thorn in 2 Corinthians 12 actually was — and wasn't — and see how body image issues are different than the situation Paul discusses there. We'll also talk about how recognizing that your body image issues aren't your "thorn in the flesh" may be some of the most hopeful news you get, because then there's a cure for them. And, it's all found in scripture! Key Scripture references: 2 Corinthians 12:7–10 (the thorn in the flesh) Colossians 3:5 ("greed, which is idolatry") Colossians 3:9–10 (put off the old self, put on the new) Romans 6:14 (sin shall not be your master) 1 John 1:9 (confession and cleansing) 2 Corinthians 5:17 (new creation) Discussion questions for listeners / community: Have you ever described your body image struggle as "your thorn"? How did that framing shape whether you expected it to change? Try praying both prayers from this episode — the confession prayer and the contentment prayer. Which one actually named what's true for you? What would it look like this week to bring one specific piece of body-image idolatry into the light through honest confession? Timestamped Guide to Episode 00:00 Exploring body image and faith 03:38 Addressing body image issues 09:41 Biblical thorns and grace 12:21 Idols in Modern Christian Culture 16:32 Understanding body image issues 19:00 Inviting women to join workshop 22:16 Admitting struggles and seeking help 27:39 Choosing the right prayer 28:45 Dealing with aging and grace A note: This episode distinguishes disordered body worship (idolatry) from genuine physical affliction (illness, disability, medical conditions). Listeners walking through the latter should be pointed toward lament and grace, not confession — this episode is specifically addressing the worship-pattern many of us have around appearance and worth. • Why Trying Harder Isn't Enough (And What Actually Works) 18.08.2026 32dk
We've all done it — the new plan, the new resolve, the "this time I mean it." So why does it never stick? In this episode, we dig into why willpower and self-discipline can't fix a body image struggle, because the real issue was never really about the body at all. In this episode best-selling author and podcast host, Heather Creekmore discusses the distinction between managing behavior and addressing the root, why trying harder can subtly become its own idol, and what practical, lasting change actually looks like when it emerges from being already loved, rather than striving to earn it. Take this with you quote of the episode:  "We quietly switch the engine to self-effort, as if right information could finish what only Christ began." Timestamped Overview: 00:00 Struggling with conflicting diet advice 04:42 Sarah's frustrating morning routine 07:47 Myth of a perfect fitness answer 12:06 Jesus and the Woman at the Well 14:32 Breaking free from earning mindset 18:03 Self-effort versus grace in faith 21:42 Practical steps to inspire change 26:18 Embracing rest over striving 27:44 Finding peace in ordinary choices Discussion questions for listeners / community: What's your "well" — the thing you keep going back to, hoping it will finally satisfy? When has "trying harder" worked short-term but failed to last? What happened? What would it look like this week to ask "what am I actually thirsty for?" instead of "how do I white-knuckle this?" • Stop the Self-Judgment Shame Cycle: For Perfectionists Who Tend to Be Hard on Themselves 09.06.2026 40dk
Are you tired of shouldering the weight of impossible standards and harsh self-judgment? This week on the podcast, Shannon Popkin returns for an honest conversation about judging—especially the way perfectionists measure themselves with a critical, merciless scoop. In this compassionate and insightful episode, you’ll hear:- Why “judge not” is more nuanced than you might think, and how the Bible calls us to both discernment and humility.- How the standards we use to judge ourselves often seep into our perception of others—even when we think we’re showing only ourselves the harshness. - The trap of perfectionism: when striving to be flawless turns into wounded pride and a subtle resistance to receiving grace.- The difference between external rule-keeping and the biblical invitation to “walk with God”—not just check every box.- How admitting our need for mercy—rather than clinging to “good girl” status—actually brings us closer to Jesus and frees us from the courtroom in our heads.- A vulnerable story of how Shannon realized she’d been harshly judging a friend’s motives, and the freedom that came with confession and restored relationship. • Cultivating Peace: Understanding Anxiety, Control, and God's Design feat: Nichole Suvar 02.06.2026 26dk
Are anxious thoughts stealing your peace? Do you find yourself trapped in a cycle of worry, perfectionism, or rigid control—sometimes without even realizing it? You're not alone, and you don't have to face this struggle in silence. In this episode, the conversation dives deep into the pervasive reality of anxiety—what it feels like, why so many of us miss the signs, and how faith intersects with mental health. Nichole Suvar shares her own journey, from childhood panic attacks no one could name, to adulthood struggles with shame, perfectionism, and even suicidal thoughts. Hear how finally receiving a diagnosis for anxiety and depression brought relief, clarity, and a path to healing—and how opening up about her struggles helped others around her do the same. A key theme that emerged was how many in our generation grew up lacking language for anxiety ("just calm down" or "don't worry" was the advice), while younger generations often recognize these feelings sooner. The discussion explores practical steps for those overwhelmed by worry—from identifying anxious patterns hiding in everyday life, to learning how to relinquish false control and invite God into the struggle. One concept discussed is the illusion that peace can be earned through achieving the "perfect" body, success, or image. Instead, lasting peace is something we cultivate—not manufacture—by returning to God's original design and practicing true stewardship, not unhealthy control (18:48). If you've ever felt ashamed of your anxiety, doubted your faith because of your mental health battles, or wondered when worry crosses the line into something more serious, this episode will meet you with wisdom, compassion, and hope. You'll come away with fresh insight, tangible tools for daily surrender, and the freeing reminder: You don’t have to hold it all together. Listen in to discover: How to spot hidden anxiety—even if you think it’s “just your personality” The practical differences between worry, concern, and clinical anxiety Why control feels soothing, but never truly delivers peace What “cultivating Eden” looks like in a modern world Why God’s peace isn’t achieved, but received—and how to start seeking it today Connect with Nichole Suvar: Website: livewithintent.org Instagram: @nicolejsuvar Book: I Don’t Have to Hold It All Together: Cultivating the Peace of Eden When Feeling Overwhelmed (Amazon affiliate link: Tiny portion of your purchase goes to support Compared to Who? ministry.) • Is Your Self Talk Like an Apple Watch or Oura Ring? God’s Grace vs. Self-Condemnation 26.05.2026 19dk
Have you ever noticed how your Apple Watch pushes you to “close your rings” no matter what kind of day you’re having? It’s always about hitting the goal, finishing the task, and sometimes leaving no room for hard days, stress, or life’s natural fluctuations. Now, compare that to the Oura Ring, which considers your context—how much sleep you got, your stress levels, and even suggests you prioritize rest on tougher days. Heather Creekmore unpacks how we often treat ourselves like the Apple Watch: driven by rigid self-imposed goals, little room for compassion, and a tendency toward self-condemnation. But what if we learned to treat ourselves more like the Oura Ring suggests—meeting ourselves with curiosity, grace, and wisdom, adjusting our expectations based on the real demands and needs of our current season? (Never heard of an Oura ring? Learn more about this wearable tech here.) Key Takeaways Apple Watch Mindset: Rigid, goal-oriented, and often uncompassionate to your context. "Did you do enough? Did you close the ring? No nuance, no compassion." Oura Ring Mindset: Flexible, understanding, and grace-filled, adjusting expectations based on your needs. "Prioritize rest today. Choose recovery. No pressure to hit goals when your body needs rest." God’s Model of Grace: God knows your challenges, your grief, your exhaustion. He offers relationship, not a scoreboard. "God doesn’t demand summer fruit in the middle of winter." Stewardship over Shame: True body stewardship is about wisdom and listening, not punishment or fear. Application Questions: Are your habits more about accusation or invitation? Is your wellness rooted in fear, or joyful stewardship?  Reflect and Apply If you struggle with self-condemnation, perfectionism, or feeling like you have to constantly “close the rings” of your life, consider: Adopting a mindset of grace over rigid self-judgment—and being more like an Oura Ring to yourself Listening to your body and spirit, honoring seasons of rest as much as seasons of work Asking, “What does loving stewardship look like for me today—given THIS body, THIS energy, and THIS season?” Grab your own Oura ring here and see the difference... Are you curious about how diet programs sneak religious language into their sales pitch? Ever wondered why joining a weight loss plan at church can feel surprisingly similar to joining a church itself? They discuss biblical stories, like Mary and Martha, and the difference between Christ's invitation to "come" and his command to "go," emphasizing the importance of being with Jesus before doing for Jesus 09:33-10:13. The conversation then delves into the tension Christian women feel between cultural pressures to be busy and productive and the biblical call to rest and trust 10:13-11:16. They candidly address the traps of shame and pride, the relentless pull to center life on self-glorification, and the continual invitation from Jesus to return, receive grace, and reorient towards Him 15:20-18:14. Heather Creekmore and Morgan Krueger highlight that our deepest issues with identity, approval, and body image are not just shaped by culture but by the condition of our hearts, and that true rest and purpose are found in magnifying God's name, not our own 24:29-26:03. Morgan Krueger introduces her new book, Made to Magnify: Choosing to Live for Jesus When Everything Tells You to Live for Yourself*, which explores these themes in greater depth and offers encouragement and practical guidance for women seeking to center their lives on Christ. The episode closes with information on how listeners can connect with Morgan Krueger and a reminder to focus less on comparison and more on living in the beautiful invitation to follow Jesus.  *Amazon affiliate link.
