Ep 545: Why You Eat When You're Not Hungry - The Missing Piece to Losing Weight in Menopause 15.09.2026 55dkIf you're struggling to lose weight in menopause, you may have asked yourself this question more times than you can count. You know you're not physically hungry. You know you'll probably regret eating it. And yet, the urge is still there. What if that urge isn't a failure of willpower? On Day 1 of my live master class, I want to help you understand what may actually be happening when you feel driven to eat. We'll look at the difference between physical hunger and emotional hunger, how thoughts can create urges to eat, and why food noise can feel so powerful even when your body doesn't need food. I'll also introduce the hunger and fullness scale and show you why I encourage women to learn what it feels like to eat between the "twos" instead of waiting until they are extremely hungry or extremely full. And there's one question I want you to start asking yourself: Why do you eat when you are not hungry? That question changed my life 20 years ago, and it can change the way you think about your relationship with food, too. This isn't about judging yourself for overeating. It's about becoming curious about what is happening in your brain and learning that an urge doesn't have to control what you do next. The food doesn't cause the urge. The thought you're thinking creates the urge. And once you begin noticing those thoughts, you can begin to respond to them differently. This is Day 1 of the Master Class, in Day 2, I will take this one step further and teach you a simple technique for calming a craving in three minutes. So if you've ever felt like you should be able to control yourself around food but just can't, don't stop with Day 1, join me for Day 2. Enjoy the show! Ep 544: Train Your Brain to Lose Weight in Menopause With or Without a GLP-1 08.09.2026 5dkIf you've been struggling with food urges and wondering whether a GLP-1 is the answer, this episode is for you. The more I learn about GLP-1s, the more I see how closely some of what they address connects with the ThINNER Peace process I created almost 20 years ago. The difference is in how we get to the brain. I share the story of a client who put a polished stone into a jar every time she experienced an urge to eat when she wasn't hungry and managed that urge without eating. As the jar filled, she had visible proof that she was learning something she once believed she couldn't do. That is the kind of brain training I want to teach you. I'm also inviting you to my free masterclass, Train Your Brain With or Without a GLP-1, where I'll help you understand what may be driving food noise and introduce you to a new technique for calming a craving. Whether you're considering a GLP-1, have decided you don't want one, or are already taking one and want to understand more about what is happening with your urges, I want you to know there is a way forward. Ep 543: How Special Occasions Can Derail Your Menopause Weight Loss | A Special Birthday Episode 01.09.2026 23dkIf you've ever told yourself that a birthday, holiday, vacation, or celebration is a reason to overeat, this special birthday episode is for you. I love birthdays, and I love being intentional about what I want for the year ahead. This year, one of my intentions is to feel my own value, worth, and beauty without question. That got me thinking about how we treat ourselves on the very days that are supposed to be about celebrating us. I share a birthday story involving my grandchildren and a birthday cake, along with two client stories that made me look more closely at the reasons we make certain food choices. Sometimes we call overeating a gift. Sometimes we eat something because we don't want to disappoint someone else. I want you to ask yourself a simple question: Do you actually like your reason for choosing this food? You can choose a treat and enjoy it. But I don't want you to plan to overeat or use food to disconnect from your body. Especially when you're celebrating yourself, I want you to honor your body, your decisions, and your own worth. Ep 542: The Weight Loss Mindset Keeping You Stuck in Menopause 25.08.2026 20dkIf you've spent years trying to lose weight, only to find yourself going up and down within the same range, this episode is for you. I talk about a game many women have been playing with their weight for years without even realizing it. You have a number you don't want to go above, a number you want to reach, and a range in between where your brain decides it's okay to relax. I share how I played this game myself for 30 years and why menopause can make it harder to keep playing. Instead of focusing on losing weight, I challenge you to accept where you are and start paying more attention to what's happening in your body. Eat when you're hungry, stop when you're full, understand emotional hunger, pay attention and become more connected to your body. What if the answer isn't trying harder to lose weight, but learning to understand what's keeping you stuck? Enjoy the show! But what if the answer isn't simply changing what you eat? I joined Linda Bjork on Linda's Corner to talk about what I believe is at the heart of menopause weight loss. Learning why you eat when you're not hungry. We talked about physical hunger, emotional hunger, and my simple negative 10 to plus 10 hunger and fullness scale. I also shared my own experience with menopause, Weight Watchers, emotional eating, and realizing that having the right information wasn't enough. Ep 540: What I've Learned at 74 About Food Freedom, Menopause and GLP-1s 11.08.2026 8dkIf you've been wondering whether GLP-1 medication is right for you, staying stuck in "maybe" may be causing more stress than either decision itself. In this episode, I reflect on celebrating my 74th birthday and the freedom I've created around food after years of doing this work. I share why trusting yourself around food matters whether you decide to use GLP-1 medication or learn brain-based tools through the ThINNER Peace Process. I also explain why so many women tell me they can finally eat what they want on GLP-1s, and why I believe your brain can learn many of those same skills. Most importantly, I challenge you to stop living in "maybe." A clear yes or a clear no both move you forward. Staying undecided keeps you stuck. Enjoy the show! MVP. Ep 539: Self-Care Is the Missing Piece for Women in Menopause 04.08.2026 18dkIf you've ever believed self-care is something you earn after you've taken care of everyone else, this episode is for you. Today I'm sharing why the most important form of self-care isn't expensive, luxurious, or even exciting. It's the daily discipline of making choices that support your future health. We'll explore the difference between indulgence and true self-care, why instant gratification often pulls us away from what we really need, and how planning meals, getting enough sleep, honoring your body's signals, and setting healthy boundaries become powerful acts of self-love. When you stop depending on motivation and begin practicing consistent self-discipline, everything starts to change. Your relationship with food becomes calmer. Your decisions become easier. And your body begins to reflect the care you've been giving it all along. Ep 538: Why Food Obsession Keeps Women in Menopause Stuck 28.07.2026 32dkIf you're exhausted from thinking about food all day and wondering why you can't seem to stop obsessing about your weight, this episode is for you. One of my coaching clients, Deborah, who shares how she spent decades caught in the cycle of dieting, emotional eating, and constant food thoughts. Together, we talk about what finally changed. It wasn't another meal plan or more willpower. It was learning how her thoughts created her emotions, and how those emotions were driving her eating. In our conversation, Deborah explains how approaching food journals with curiosity instead of judgment helped her uncover emotional eating patterns. She shares how learning to feel difficult emotions instead of avoiding them gave her something she had wanted for over 40 years. Calm around food. One of my favorite moments is when Deborah says, "No more food drama." That's what happens when you stop fighting your brain and start understanding it. Weight loss becomes simpler because food is no longer controlling your thoughts every day. Enjoy the show! Ep 537: Dr. Deb Butler on Are You Awesome Today?Podcast 21.07.2026 32dkIf you've spent years believing that successful weight loss in menopause comes from finding the perfect diet, this conversation may change the way you think about food forever. In this guest appearance on the Are You Awesome Today? podcast with Stephen Schener, I share why I believe lasting weight loss begins with understanding your brain and reconnecting with your body's natural hunger and fullness signals. I've seen how diet mentality keeps so many smart, successful women stuck in the cycle of losing and regaining weight. We talk about why menopause often becomes the wake-up call that finally gets us to pay attention to our bodies, how emotional eating and food rules disconnect us from what we truly need, and why learning to ask, "Am I hungry?" is one of the most powerful skills you can develop. Ep 536: Why Saying Yes Is Keeping Women in Menopause Stuck With Emotional Eating 14.07.2026 25dkWhat if one of the biggest reasons you're emotionally eating during menopause has nothing to do with food? In this episode, I share a coaching conversation that uncovered a pattern I see in so many women in menopause. The habit of saying "yes" when your body is desperately asking you to say "no." We often believe we're being loving, helpful, or selfless, but when we repeatedly ignore what we truly want, the emotional discomfort doesn't disappear. It often shows up through overeating instead. I also explain how people-pleasing can quietly fuel emotional eating, why learning to recognize your body's signals is the first step toward change, and how practicing awareness can help you begin honoring yourself without guilt. You don't have to start by making huge changes. Sometimes simply noticing when you want to say no is where everything begins to shift. Enjoy the show! I've learned that lasting weight loss isn't about finding the perfect diet. It's about rebuilding the connection between your brain and your body. In this conversation with Shawn and Janet Needham of Health Solutions Podcast , I share my own experience of spending decades losing and regaining the same weight before realizing that the real issue wasn't food. It was the way I had learned to think about food. We talk about why so many women in menopause confuse emotional hunger with physical hunger, why eating on a schedule isn't always the answer, and how learning to notice hunger and fullness can completely change your relationship with food. I also explain the Physical Hunger Scale, the difference between eating for nourishment and eating to avoid discomfort, and why trusting yourself around food is a skill you can develop. Ep 534: The Buddhist Practice "Shenpa" That Can Change Menopause Weight Loss 30.06.2026 16dkHave you ever felt like food seems to hook you before you even realize what's happening? If you've been struggling with food cravings during menopause, I want to introduce you to a concept that has completely changed the way I think about urges. In this episode, I share the ancient Buddhist concept of shenpa, which describes that moment when we become hooked by an urge. I explain why this idea has been around for thousands of years, why it's so relevant for women in menopause, and how it connects beautifully with what modern neuroscience teaches us about the brain. I also explore the Stanford Marshmallow Test, what it reveals about impulse control, and why learning to pause, even for a few seconds, can help quiet food noise and strengthen your brain's ability to make choices that serve you. We even talk about why GLP-1 medications have brought so much attention to food noise, and what you can do whether or not you're taking one. Enjoy the show! Ep 533: A Simple Technique to Handle Food Urges Differently in Menopause 23.06.2026 10dkYou don't need more willpower. You need a different relationship with your urges. In this episode, I talk about one simple technique that can help women in menopause handle food cravings differently. Inspired by conversations around GLP-1 medications, I explain what these medications appear to do for food noise and how you can begin creating similar awareness without relying solely on medication. I break down why urges start with thoughts, how those thoughts create feelings in the body, and why many cravings feel stronger than they really are. Ep 530: MVP: The Freedom Of No Longer Feeling Controlled By Food with Michelle 02.06.2026 39dkDo you feel like food has too much power over you? In this deeply personal conversation, Michelle shares how years of stress, overwhelm, food rules, and self-criticism kept her stuck in a cycle that felt impossible to break. Like many women in menopause, she believed her struggles were caused by stress and cravings. What she discovered was that the way she was thinking about those challenges mattered far more than the challenges themselves. As Michelle worked through the ThINNER Peace process, she learned how to stop labeling foods as good or bad, enjoy joy foods without guilt, and experience cravings without feeling controlled by them. She also found a level of self-compassion that extended far beyond food and weight loss.
