In February 2025, after brief deliberations, a Greenville County jury convicted Zachary Hughes of the October 2021 murder of Christina Parcell. Parker’s “outrage” lawsuit, became part of the legal battle when attorneys for Parker’s Corporation subpoenaed her for a deposition.Matney did not appear at the location specified in the subpoena, citing safety concerns that she raised shortly before the deposition was scheduled to begin. According to court filings and testimony, Matney believed the designated location was unsafe. The parties were unable to agree on an alternative location, resulting in the deposition not taking place.Following her failure to appear, Parker’s attorneys filed a motion to compel her deposition and later sought to have her held in contempt of court. The court was asked to determine whether Matney’s reasons for not attending were legally justified and whether her actions warranted sanctions or other consequences.   The Supreme Court of South Carolina ruled that Alex Murdaugh is entitled to a new trial, citing improper influences on the jury. According to the court, Becky Hill's comments and actions compromised the integrity of the jury, violating Murdaugh’s right to a fair trial. The court emphasized that every defendant is entitled to an impartial jury, free from external influences.  The court found that Hill made statements to jurors that suggested Murdaugh was guilty.  While the court did not review every evidentiary issue raised by Murdaugh's appeal, it provided guidance on the admissibility of his financial crimes in the upcoming trial. South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson expressed disappointment but acknowledged the necessity of a fair trial.
