  Today I have the amazing session manicurist Ama Quashie as my guest.Ama Quashie is a next level nail artist who has perfected the nails of Pink, Solange, Michaela Coel, Zoe Kravitz, Lenny Kravitz and many more.Her work has been seen in British, French and American Vogue as well as W magazine, The Gentlewoman, Dazed... she’s worked on campaigns for Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent, Prada, Loewe – the list goes on and on, and she’s also the go-to key manicurist when it comes to fashion week shows.Interestingly, Ama is also the only manicurist in the Business of Fashion 500, a list that chronicles the best of the best when it comes to the people shaping the fashion industry. So there's definitely a bigger conversation to be had there, and we get into the issues that manicurists often face in an industry that doesn't always give them the credit they deserve.In this episode Ama talks about the level of professionalism that is needed in the fashion industry and how you also need to learn how to put yourself forward and knowing how to balance the two.   Ep. 313: ‘I was never there.’ Iconic androgynous model Eve Salvail takes us backstage during fashion week as a supermodel in the ‘90s 22.03.2026 55p

  Todays guest is Eve Salvail, a Canadian model who was one of the most iconic androgynous faces of the '90s. Unlike the Cindys, Lindas and Naomis of the day, Eve exuded a punk attitude that was only magnified by the fact she had a Chinese dragon tattooed on her scalp. Her truly unique appearance made her the perfect muse to iconic French fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier, who would drape and design directly onto Eve's body.As well as standing out on the runway, Eve also stood out in cult films such as The Fifth Element and Pret a Porter and when I first sat down to chat with her I had no idea she would be so completely honest and open.In this episode Eve opens up about so many of her experiences during the '90s and while many of them make for an entertaining listen, she also shares on darker times.   Today I have an amazing guest, Naeemah Lafond, a true force within the hair industry.A first generation Haitian American who grew up in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York, Naeemah is well versed in hair at every level, as a stylist, artistic director, educator and someone who stands for change and real inclusion.In 2021 she worked with Pinterest on the hair pattern function to improve the user experience for Black, Brown and Latinx people with textured hair in search of style inspiration and advice.A year before, in June 2020, Naeemah created a guide about what needed to change when it came to Black creatives; from hiring black stylists to normalising Black beauty. While Naeemah’s focus was and is of course hair, her guide spoke to everyone in every industry.In this episode we discuss how Naeemah got her start in hairdressing and how her work fits alongside being a mother.
