Somewhere along the way, the spectacle itself became the credential. People fall, therefore the preacher must be anointed. Something glitters, therefore God’s glory must have arrived. Unfamiliar syllables pour out, therefore heaven must be speaking. But every one of those conclusions demands examination. Calling something a manifestation of the Holy Ghost does not establish its source, and a congregation’s excitement doesn’t equal scriptural authority.“To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.” Acts 8:10,11 (KJB)The King James Bible records a crowd making precisely that dangerous mistake about Simon, a man who had bewitched them with sorcery. The preacher making the claim must answer to the Book. Paula White, Kathryn Krick, and Stacey Campbell belong squarely in this examination of the supernatural claims being made inside the Charismatic Church. During her November 2020 election prayer, White repeatedly chanted “strike” and declared that angels were being dispatched from Africa and South America to secure victory. Kathryn Krick presents herself as an apostle, and her church claims a mandate to release anointing, cast out demons, heal the sick, and raise the dead. Stacey Campbell describes violent shaking and loud tongues, while her ministry promotes “ecstatic prophecy” in which someone is supposedly overtaken by the Holy Spirit in body, soul, and spirit. Is this confusion and chaos of God? Through your willing participation, he can receive the words that tell him how to have forgiveness of sins and eternal life in Jesus Christ. Think about the child learning the Scriptures, the missionary preaching in a distant village, and the discouraged believer strengthened by a faithful teacher. These are opportunities worth giving ourselves to. We get to spend our brief time on this earth doing work with eternal value, and the Lord has promised that our labour here matters. You have free will, you have liberty, you don’t have to serve the Lord…but you get to.

That is exactly the environment in which mass deception flourishes. Satan does not always deceive by presenting one enormous lie; sometimes he simply buries the truth beneath ten thousand distractions. Keep people angry, entertained, frightened, stimulated and scrolling, and they will have neither the time nor the spiritual clarity to notice what is happening right in front of them. And that is why the coming deception of Antichrist will not arrive in an intellectual vacuum. The world is being conditioned for it right now — conditioned to react instead of think, consume instead of discern, and follow whatever dominates the screen in front of them. Azusa trained generations to judge doctrine by manifestations when the Bible commands us to judge manifestations by doctrine. That deception is preparing the professing Church for the supernatural religion of Antichrist, when Satan will produce “all power and signs and lying wonders.” The strange fire kindled at 312 Azusa Street continues to burn today, and millions are calling it revival because they have abandoned the Book that would expose the spirit behind it.

Israel had been entrusted with the oracles of God and should have recognized its Messiah, yet the builders examined the Stone and cast Him aside. When Pilate presented Jesus Christ alongside a robber, insurrectionist and murderer, the people cried, “Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas.” But the Gentiles were equally guilty: Herod, Pontius Pilate, the Gentiles and the people of Israel gathered together and crucified the Lord of glory. Through every stage, the same deadly exchange was taking place: “What saith the scripture?” was replaced by “What did you feel?” and the authority of the Bible was surrendered to whoever claimed to possess the newest prophecy, impartation or anointing.Kathryn Krick is not a strange departure from that history—she is its logical conclusion. Azusa Street now has a smartphone, the healing tent has become a viral video, the prayer cloth has become an online course, and the travelling faith healer has become a social-media “apostle” commanding demons before millions of viewers. Illinois mother Corie Walsh has been charged with murdering her two-year-old son, Bennet, after prosecutors say she hanged him in the basement and attempted to take her own life. According to authorities, Walsh had become deeply invested in the Clancy trial and discussed it shortly before her son’s death. Her attorney says she experienced a psychotic episode, while investigators allege that she called her own little boy “the devil” or “the Antichrist.” In North Dakota, another mother, Kailey Erhart, stands accused of attacking her three small children with a knife, killing two and seriously injuring the third. Authorities have not formally established either crime as an imitation of Clancy, but the emergence of multiple mothers accused of slaughtering their children amid a national movement portraying Clancy primarily as a victim should set off alarms throughout the country.
