The Bet shares personal stories from New Zealanders who have overcome serious gambling addiction. In the 2026 episodes, four survivors describe how their lives were derailed by dopamine hits and the promise of easy riches, and how they moved past their addictions or the harm caused by other people's gambling. A special long-form interview features a gambling-harm researcher explaining the neuroscience, social norms and industry cynicism that keep gambling rolling on despite the damage it causes, along with constructive ways to recover. The series is produced for the Problem Gambling Foundation by Te Pūrongo Productions and points listeners to pgf.nz for free advice, tools and counselling.
