  • RWR USWA Podcast Ep. 124 (2/29/92) The Fat Boys Arrive! 20.10.2026 1h 27min
The Fat Boys have arrived in Memphis, Koko B. Ware is finally the Unified World Heavyweight Champion, and somehow the Moondogs are still finding new pieces of furniture to destroy.Gene Jackson, Josh Briley, and Brian Tramel head back to February 29, 1992, where Meat & Potatoes make one hell of a first impression and immediately start calling out Richard Lee’s Moondogs. Meanwhile, Brian Christopher’s ego keeps growing while taking on Jim Steel, King Cobra wants to knock him down a few pegs, and a mysterious woman is sitting at ringside taking notes on seemingly everybody.Things get even stranger when “Dr. Death” (NOT Steve Williams) and Nurse Kratchet show up with a bedpan cutting nonsense promos on Dave Brown, Pat Tanaka nearly kicks Eric Embry’s eyeball into the cheap seats, and the Moondogs respond to Big Black Dog’s injury by trying to cripple somebody who had absolutely nothing to do with it.And looming over everything is Night of Champions featuring six title matches, no-disqualification chaos, and Jerry Lawler & Jeff Jarrett finally realizing that beating up the Moondogs isn’t enough. They’ve burned people, broken bones, smashed chairs, wrecked furniture, and turned the studio into a demolition site. Now they want the belts! ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
  • RWR ECW Podcast Ep. 17 (8/3/93) W.I.N.G.-ing It This Week! 19.10.2026 1h
***WATCHALONG W/BRANDON & GENE AT THE LINK BELOW***https://rumble.com/v7h30ik-rwr-ecw-podcast-ep.-17-8393-w.i.n.g.-ing-it-this-week.htmlECW is running out of fresh footage, “Jazzy” J.T. Smith being tossed off the crow’s nest is airing again, and somehow Japanese deathmatch wrestling has entered the conversation in 1993.Gene Jackson and Brandon Wheeler head back to August 3, 1993, where the Dark Patriot continues his feud with the apparently, “Jazzy” J.T. Smith, Eddie Gilbert and Paul E. Dangerously remain right in the middle of everything, and ECW desperately hypes the upcoming August TV tapings featuring names like Stan Hansen, Tito Santana, Sensational Sherri, Shane Douglas, Don Muraco, Jimmy Snuka, and stars from the WING promotion from Japan. There’s also more recycled footage, more baffling continuity, and a look at the kind of wild Japanese wrestling that clearly points toward where ECW would eventually be heading. The good news? Fresh tapings are finally coming and not a moment too soon! ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

  • RWR Power Pro Wrestling Podcast Ep. 27 (10/17/98) “Where’s Your Axe?” 17.10.2026 1h 8min
Power Pro Wrestling continues to morph into The Randy Hales Show, and this week somehow manages to shift into another gear.Gene, Robb, and BT head back to October 17, 1998, where Randy is everywhere once again, Bill Dundee continues to verbally annihilate everyone in his path , Brandon Baxter tries to put last week’s humiliation behind him, and a new arrival claiming the LeDuc family name immediately raises one very important question: Where’s your axe? (Good call, Randy!)Add in Jerry Lawler, Kid Wikkid, Derrick King, Ashley Hudson, Rex King, Master B’s bridge falling out during a match, and the continued buildup toward Sid Vicious finally wrestling on Power Pro TV, and this episode is far more about personalities, grudges, and people calling each other out than anything happening bell to bell (and that’s OK!)It’s messy, personal, occasionally ridiculous, and exactly the kind of late ’90s Memphis television that gives Gene, Robb, and BT plenty to talk about. And yes always remember.. if you’re going to show up in Memphis calling yourself a LeDuc, you’d better bring a damn axe or Randy Hales will call you out about it! • RWR WCCW Podcast Ep. 13 (3/17/83) Jimmy Garvin Wants the Texas Title! (Special Guest: Steve Crawford) 08.10.2026 1h 10min
***WATCHALONG WITH ROBB/SCOTTIE/STEVE HERE AT THIS LINK***https://rumble.com/v7g55tg-rwr-wccw-podcast-ep.-13-31783-jimmy-garvin-wants-the-texas-title-wsteve-cra.htmlThe war between the Von Erichs and the Fabulous Freebirds keeps getting hotter, “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin finally makes his move toward championship gold, and Robb Helt and Scottie Wince welcome special guest, Steve Crawford to the show for Episode #13 of the Retro Wrestling Re-View WCCW Podcast. This week finds World Class Championship Wrestling firmly in the aftermath of Christmas Star Wars. The Freebirds have made themselves the most hated men in Texas, Gary Hart is out of the territory, and the entire promotion is beginning to reshape itself around one feud that is rapidly becoming bigger than everything else on the card. But before getting into the wrestling, Robb and Scottie introduce Steve Crawford, longtime Memphis Wrestling fan, territory wrestling historian, and BT’s co-host on the RWR CWA Podcast on Patreon. Steve grew up watching Memphis, ICW, and Georgia Championship Wrestling before eventually becoming familiar with World Class later in the decade. Now living in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, he brings another old school territory perspective to this week’s watchalong. And he picked a good week to drop in.Jimmy Garvin is ready to wrestle on television, but only if David Von Erich gives him something worth showing up for.Elsewhere, Wild Bill Irwin battles Johnny Mantell in a match that gets considerably more television time than anybody expected. Then there’s King Kong Bundy, who is undergoing one of the most important transformations of his career. The guys point out just how much more intimidating Bundy looks after shaving his head. He isn’t quite the enormous monster who will eventually main event WrestleMania against Hulk Hogan, but all the pieces are starting to come together. With Gary Hart gone, Armand Hussain is filling the territory’s lead heel-manager role, including involvement with talent connected to The Great Kabuki. There’s also a look at Iceman King Parsons, another wrestler who would become a major piece of World Class over the coming years. Robb talks about being a huge Iceman fan and shares memories of actually encountering Parsons at the Sportatorium years later, including finding out very quickly that yelling one of Iceman’s catchphrases at him is a lot funnier when Iceman doesn’t turn around and acknowledge you. Then we get back to the reason World Class is really starting to cook. The Freebirds and the Von Erichs.Michael Hayes continues to show why he was so valuable to every territory he entered. Robb, Scottie, and Steve push back on the old criticism that Hayes “couldn’t work,” pointing out that wherever Michael Hayes and the Freebirds went, they drew money.Georgia.Memphis.Texas.And eventually Mid-South.Hayes understood psychology, understood how to get heat, understood how to sell, and maybe most importantly, he understood how to make people want to see him get punched in the mouth. That’s a pretty useful skill for a heel. The real fireworks come when David and Kevin Von Erich collide with Terry Gordy and Buddy Roberts, you couldn’t book a hotter main event in Texas at that moment in time. And coming out of that tag team match, Kevin Von Erich wants Terry Gordy in a match with NO RULES.Be careful what you wish for Kevin….. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

  • Talkin’ Off The Top Rope Episode #10: with guest Drexl 07.10.2026 1h 20min
This week, “The Grizzled Vet” Michael McCurdy sits down with Drexl, the Human Horror Show, the Homicidal Artist, and the self-proclaimed Devil himself for a look at the man behind one of the Pacific Northwest’s most unforgettable wrestling characters.Drexl talks about growing up obsessed with wrestling, horror movies, comic books, punk rock, and heavy metal, his years working in radio, and how a cross promotion with Portland Wrestling unexpectedly led him into the business. From brutal early training with The Grappler and learning from veterans like Buddy Rose, Moondog Moretti, Dr. Luther, and Kevin Sullivan, to the evolution of the Drexl character, death matches, acting, graphic design, booking, and helping develop the next generation of Pacific Northwest talent, this conversation goes far beyond what happens inside the ring. It’s a story about creativity, longevity, chasing the things you love, and finding success even when the road takes you somewhere completely different than you expected. The stories never die on Talkin’ Off The Top Rope. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
  • RWR USWA Podcast (2/15/92) Where’s Austin Idol?? 07.10.2026 1h 33min
The war with Richard Lee and the Moondogs is getting uglier by the week, and this time Jerry Lawler, Jeff Jarrett, and Austin Idol are ready to fight fire with fire perhaps literally. After the Big Black Dog managed to pin Lawler last week, the King has a LOT to say about it on this week’s show.Gene Jackson, Josh Briley, and Brian Tramel head back to February 15, 1992, as the Moondog chaos continues, Lawler delivers one of the strangest promos we’ve heard yet, Koko B. Ware sets his sights on regaining the Unified World Title from Kamala, and the escalating Eric Embry/Dirty White Boy feud leads to a match nobody should probably agree to climb into/or up to…well, you’ll see. Perhaps, the biggest unanswered question the gang has right now is…where the hell is Brian Christopher??Plus, there’s a loaded Mid-South Coliseum card on the horizon featuring a scaffold match, a mud pit match, a World Tag Team Title match, and Lawler promising that Richard Lee may want to keep a fire extinguisher close by. Basically, Memphis Wrestling is entering that wonderful stage where every feud seems to be escalating at the exact same time. And they’re just here trying to make sense of it all.  ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
  • Beyond Wrestling Ep. 12: USWA & The Lawsuit That Killed Wrestling’s Last Territory Part Four w/special guest James Beard 06.10.2026 1h 21min
After three episodes digging through court records, conflicting stories, behind the scenes politics, and the financial mess surrounding the final days of the USWA, Beyond Wrestling w/Robb Helt brings the series home with somebody who was actually standing in the middle of it.On Episode #12, Robb Helt is joined by guest co-hosts Gene Jackson and Steve Crawford for Part 4 of “USWA & The Lawsuit That Killed Wrestling’s Last Territory,” featuring special guest James Beard, longtime referee, booker, promoter, wrestling historian, and one of the final people involved in running the United States Wrestling Association before the doors closed in 1997.For more than 20 years, Memphis Wrestling was part of the city’s identity.Saturday morning meant Lance Russell. Then Dave Brown.Jerry Lawler. The Mid-South Coliseum.A territory that somehow survived while the rest of the wrestling world changed around it.By 1997, it was gone. Not because WCW beat it. Not because the WWF put it out of business. Not even because Memphis fans suddenly stopped caring. It disappeared in the middle of a business deal that spiraled into competing ownership claims, cooked books, lawsuits, bankruptcy, accusations of fraud, and eventually a federal racketeering verdict. And James Beard was there.James takes the story back to the moment Bruce Prichard approached him about helping the USWA. At the time, James was still living in Texas and trying to figure out his next move in wrestling. The business was struggling almost everywhere, and USWA remained one of the few established promotions still operating with a relationship to the WWF.Then James heard the name Larry Burton for the first time. Burton eventually called him and, almost immediately, tried to hire James to take over the booking. Instead of accepting over the phone, James went to Memphis and spent hours talking with Burton about wrestling, house shows, promotion, television, and what could realistically be done to improve business. The longer the conversation went, the stranger things felt. Burton claimed to be an experienced television and entertainment executive, but James quickly discovered a man who seemed to spend a lot of time yelling, giving orders, and acting busy without necessarily accomplishing much. And then James saw him try to produce wrestling television. That was when things really started falling apart. From there, James Beard’s story manages to answer many of the important questions that Robb and Gene have had throughout this series, and by the end of this show it becomes crystal clear what was going on here with Larry Burton, Jerry Lawler, and the Selkers. James Beard saw the final days firsthand. He saw the books. He met the investors. He dealt with Burton. He worked with Dutch. He introduced some people who desperately needed to meet.He tried to keep television alive. And when everything collapsed, he was one of the men left standing in the wreckage with money still owed to him (that’s still owed to this day). For four episodes, Beyond Wrestling has examined the strange business deal, the money, the lawsuit, the courtroom findings, and the competing versions of how Memphis Wrestling finally died. This time, they bring it to a close someone who was there both in the company and in court. James Beard was the last matchmaker of the USWA.And this is his story of how wrestling’s last territory finally came to an end. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
  • RWR ECW Podcast Ep. 15 (7/20/93) Funk vs. Snuka! 05.10.2026 1h 9min
***WATCHALONG W/BRANDON & GENE AT THIS LINK***https://rumble.com/v7gfi0c-rwr-ecw-podcast-ep.-15-72093-funk-vs.-snuka.htmlOn Episode #15 of the RWR ECW Podcast, Gene Jackson and Brandon Wheeler head back to July 20, 1993, as Eastern Championship Wrestling continues getting stranger, louder, and a little more chaotic by the week. This time, the headline match is a rare clash between two legends as Terry Funk faces “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka for the ECW Television title, while the ECW Tag Team Title picture gets even more complicated with yet another stipulation heavy match between the Super Destroyers & the Suidcide Blondes, meanwhile Rockin’ Rebel keeps pushing the Sandman feud into uglier territory, and Todd Gordon tries to bring some order to a promotion that seems increasingly determined to ignore him. There’s also more from Eddie Gilbert and Paul E. Dangerously, some classic early-ECW production confusion, and the kind of wild finish that makes you wonder whether anybody backstage was actually in control.ECW still isn’t quite the promotion it would become...But you can definitely feel it getting closer. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
