  • A Look Inside My Career As A B2B Product Marketing Manager in IT (Part 1) 13.09.2026 7min
This story was originally published on HackerNoon at: https://hackernoon.com/a-look-inside-my-career-as-a-b2b-product-marketing-manager-in-it-part-1. I started in tech, discovered product management, and after 95%+ of my applications ended in rejection or silence, finally landed my first PM role at a small IT company. Working in a tiny team pushed me into both product and marketing. In 2023, a mentor helped me realize that this combination could become my niche: Product Marketing. After a few months of searching, I found the right fit — a remote-first B2B SaaS startup where I could combine product, marketing, and strategy. In November 2023, I became a Middle Product Marketing Manager. My biggest lessons: trust your intuition, don’t let rejection define you, and don’t be afraid to build a career at the intersection of different skills.

A video-conversion interface should not promise a resolution before it knows what the source and provider can actually deliver. That sounds like a small copy decision, but it is an implementation decision too. A user who asks for 1080p needs an observable path from input to result—not a button that silently substitutes a file without explaining what happened.

A first-person account of switching from fintech (trading at Gazprombank) into crypto at the bottom of the market — right after FTX, with Solana in single digits. The switch wasn't luck: it was a non-obvious match of hard skills (edtech, finance, crypto, user research) and soft skills, signalled loudly over time through public writing and a finance PhD on crypto regulation. The bigger lesson: ugly markets hire for impact, not momentum — so a downturn is often the best time to jump, if you can credibly say "I can fix this."

Behavioral data is becoming the new standard in talent acquisition by predicting how candidates will perform—not just what they’ve done. Unlike resumes, it measures decision-making, communication, and adaptability through psychometric insights. This leads to better cultural alignment, lower attrition, and faster onboarding. In a hybrid, fast-moving workplace, hiring based on behavior is proving more accurate and effective than traditional methods.
