That's the foundation: our confidence isn't in our own effort or spiritual performance, but in His finished work.But faith that stays quiet doesn't finish the job. When your heart is full of assurance of what God has done, that assurance is meant to come out of your mouth. Scripture doesn't describe faith as a private feeling — it describes it as something spoken. Romans 10:9-10 makes the same connection: belief in the heart leads to confession with the mouth. So faith isn't complete until it has a voice.This is why, when you're struggling with something, the response isn't just to believe quietly and wait — it's to speak directly to the situation. Jesus modeled this when He spoke to the storm, the fig tree, the mountain. He didn't just believe calm was coming; He addressed the storm directly. That's the move the sermon is pointing to: from believing about Christ's work, to speaking to the circumstance in front of you, out of that belief.It's worth being precise here about what "faith speaks" does not mean. It's not about the volume or eloquence of your prayers, and it's not something produced by working yourself up. Even praying in the Spirit (building up your faith, as Jude 1:20 puts it) is preparation — the actual confession is a separate, deliberate act of speaking to your situation. Faith speaks because of what Christ did, not because of technique.There's also a spiritual warfare dimension the enemy takes seriously. Revelation 12:11 says believers overcome "by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony" — testimony being spoken confession. The devil is aware that a believer who stays in God's presence, prays consistently, and verbally confesses the Word has a weapon that praying and believing alone doesn't fully activate. Revelation 3:3 adds the warning dimension — a call to remember, hold fast, and stay alert, tying watchfulness to the same posture of active, vocal faith rather than passive belief.This is why Paul could say in 2 Corinthians 4:13, "we having the same spirit of faith... we also believe, and therefore speak." Belief and speech are paired as one act, not two separate stages. For faith to fully work in a situation — whether that's healing, breakthrough, or resistance to attack — it has to move from something held in the heart to something declared with the mouth.In summary: Faith is rooted in Christ's finished work, held with assurance in the heart, and only complete when it's spoken — over your circumstances, over your testimony, and as a weapon against the enemy's opposition.
