  Jah Shaka, born Neville Powell in Jamaica, was a pioneering icon of the British Reggae and Dub scene. He moved to London in the late 1950s as part of the Windrush generation and launched his legendary Jah Shaka Sound System in the 1970s. Known as "The Zulu Warrior," he remained strictly dedicated to spiritual, heavy Roots Reggae, turning his club sessions into intense, bass-heavy spiritual gatherings. Operating his sound system mostly alone, Shaka combined traditional records with live sirens, echoes, and early drum machines. This raw, energetic style directly inspired the birth of UK electronic genres like Jungle, Drum and Bass, and Dubstep. Through his own label and seminal album series like Commandments of Dub, he shaped the genre and collaborated with artists like Horace Andy and Max Romeo.
