Hosea is a commander in Pharaoh's army and a Hebrew. Returning home from war, he discovers a great pestilence in Egypt and his people being blamed. He receives a message from his father to follow his people to Succoth, but hesitates to give up his army position. Another message gives him a new name from God. This retelling of the Exodus involves intrigue among the Hebrews and in Pharaoh's court.
